Henry120: Three Special Operations Troops Drown During Exercise
by African Defence Admin • October 7, 2013

Three foreign members of the special forces participating in the SADC war games drowned after two boats they were using capsized during an early morning operation off the coast from Sandwich harbour.

The bodies of two soldiers – one from Malawi and another from South Africa – were washed ashore while the body of another South African is still missing. At the time of going to press, an intense search for the body was in progress.
saengine: If your naval commanders are dumb enough to do that, our special forces will thank you very much. Under the cover of darkness they get deployed from submarines and simply place explosives on Aradu. Very easy job. In 20/30m of water there's very little chance of being detected. There goes your rust buck, up in flames. And dont say this is impossible. SA special forces placed tracking devices on Russian ships in Mozambiquean ports during the Border War....did it numerous times without being detected.
nigerian navy underwater divers and special forces too can go to simons town navl base and plant bombs on all south african navy valour frigates and sink then in your country too .

andrewza: The sea is a dangouris place, at least 16 of them made it a shoar.
2 south african special forces soldiers drowned in the sea during the training exercise.

if it is nigerian soldiers now, you south africans will all start posting rubbish that they are not good enough and that south africa has the best special forces in africa bla bla bla grin

not laughing at the dead...may their souls rest in peace.

....but these are the same south african navy sea borne special forces that @saengine was replying to my last NAF/NN vs SANDF navycombat simulation, that they will jump into a small boat from Valour frigate in nigerian waters during the naval blockade and paddle boat to nigerian navy base and enter the base, walk like spirits into NNS Aradu and plant bombs on Aradu and blow it up grin

the same south african special forces that got carried away by water during multinational training grin

You have never fought under flying jet fighters, with an enemy armed with tanks,APCs,SAM,AA guns and artillery. Your man can't withstand real fire power brought down on them from well trained artillery men. MOVING TROOPS IS A NORMAL THING. SA always crushed enemies with lesser.
nigerian army, navy, and air force like any world class military is trained to fight against national armed forces of a country like south africa as enemy.

standard military training is to fight an enemy that has tanks, APC, artillery, jet fighters and warships.

if you think the world class American, British, and Nigerian military academies trained Nigerian military to fight only rebels and militants, then i think you should go for deliverance in church tomorrow morning .

Missiles do miss targets. Reasons running from the pilot's manoeuvres, jammers and angles. The Valour class can carry the Oryx helicopter, which can jam your F7's radars. Tech is everything Angolan or Cuban pilots were ill experienced by were serious

Gripen missile too can miss target.

No south african aircraft or ship can jam a nigerian ATR-42 Surveyor aircrafts NATO standard electronic warfare systems, i posted that with photos and sources early this morning...or are you an incurable m.a.d.m.a.n ? grin

Ever heard about Executive outcomes? That military contractor company, created in South Africa. No Nigerian operation can top the SADF's cassinga raid of joint operations from the Air force's canebera, pums, super frelons,C130s and baccaneer to the army's parabats. Including the army's chief on the ground facilitating such first mission by the SADF.
air to air combat is NOT the only aspect of war....and only an army can ever occupy territory.

biafran army is NOT mercenary, they are 99% nigerian army of rebelling eastern tribes with same military training as nigerian army federal side.

i want to see your post with sources to show us how south african army and navy landed in marine warfare amphibious operation with 40,000 soldiers into an enemy territory under artillery and mortar fire like nigerian 3rd marine commandoes vs biafran army...show me where south africa did such a thing.

even a Gripen jet can crash, any aircraft can crash. american F-15 jets crash from time to time. some Gripen jets crashed for many years and that delayed its purchase by any user.

there are 2,400 F-7 jets flying all over the world so you hear more of its crashes. only 240 Gripen jets even exist and many dont fly at all like south africa has 12 in 'cold freezer' storage for long time to come.

F-7 technical issues were resolved for China, Nigeria, Pakistan....and Bangladesh got the benefit from their brand new F-7 jets built in 2013 this year...last factory production maybe.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 9:55pm On Oct 05, 2013
Mike..ZA:
Ask SAAF whether you can see the jets or not. If your enemy has superior fighter you won't score any hit. SAAF fired many missiles against the MIG 23 in Angola with no success. Technology can quickly overturn the tables. Why don't you ask your self why many chinese were killed by the USA in Korea, why Saddam ground mechanised forces(tanks) were destroyed by their western counterparts(Abrams and Challenger). Why Cuba or USSR artillery were useless against the enemy's G5 and G6 guns, why the German Tiger tank was feared. Why the B-2 spirit bomber is still the enemy's worst nightmare.
in a dogfight air to air, the jet's tech is 30% input, the jets missile is 70% of the final result.

you dont know what it means when an F-7 jet fires several ultra-modern PL-9C missiles against a Gripen, the missile locks on and takes only a few seconds to h.i.t the Gripen jet.

both pilots may have to die that same day !

honestly i cannot predict a winner of a dogfight...only God knows, especially when both pilots are masters of their own jet aircraft.

check war history of air to air missile combats, inferior jets shoot down superior jets once they enter dogfight situation.

lets just face facts and move on.

please dont distract me again this weekend. i am writing my F-7 jet vs Valour frigate simulation...i need to finish it and post tomorrow sunday morning before i got to church.

.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 9:45pm On Oct 05, 2013
rka1: Well, I am sure the pilot that was killed will agree with you. That's why they are called "flying coffins" by some in the know. The avionic suite isn't bad, just the engine I think may have issues.
F-7 jet technical issues have been resolved by china, pakistan, bangladesh and nigeria. the crashes have stopped. NAF flies them very regularly and they do reconaissance mission with special recce electronic pods.

dont underestimate that F-7 jet when it is the version from 2005 to 2013 or the upgraded versions of China and Pakistan.

some F-7 jets have radar range of 37km and missile range of 22km armed with the best missiles and rockets in the modern world of today.

F-7 jet is primary role interceptor, secondary roles ground attack and recce/spy.

F-7's PL-9 air to air missile is one of the best in the world today and its air to ground attack rockets are equally world class to match the best from America/NATO.

call it crap, your personal opinion, but F-7 will kill any enemy within 22km range in a few seconds.

let us face facts....i dont judge weapons by what people say, but by what the weapon can do against its enemy.

that is how the real military men judge weapons ( but i am a civilian anyway grin )

Mike..ZA:
Technologically the Griffin is ahead of the F7. Your air force crushed 3 of their F7 jets that says a lot about your "pilot skill and training".
nigerian air force pilots are among the best in the world, i posted that here few months ago, from official NAF website showing personal details/profile of some pilots who were the best officers beating americans in air force academy overseas and training to fly different jet fighters all at the same time. i dont need to repeat that post, its directly copied from nigerian airforce official webasit.

an average nigerian air force combat pilot flies about 5 different jet fighters each, including the jets we dont have, like american F-5 Tigershark jet and i even hear of A-10 Thunderbolt jet.

the 3 F-7 crashed happened at the early stage of purchase when the pilots were training to fly the aircraft. 2 of the crashes are F-7NI Trainer two seater version, only one was F-7NI fighter version and the crash was during landing/take-off drill, not in any combat/ maneuver drills.

since those incidents about 4 years ago, no nigerian F-7 has crashed and they are flying engaged in mali and borno air to ground attacks, nigerian pilots have mastered the F-7 jet.

only God can predict the winner between a Gripen jet and F-7 jet in visual range dogfight combat when they both can see each other by electronic optics and boresight....both jets have air to air missiles of equal power, each nigerian F-7 jet's world class ultra-modern PL-9C air to air costs one million dollars !

its like predicting that an american soldier with M-16 rifle will k.ill a chinese soldier armed with AK-47 rifle when they are face to face in combat on an open field 100 feet apart...just because the american carries an M-16 rifle ? both need to receive only one bullet in the head to die.

use your head to think...no need to borrow mine.

Why don't you come back when your armed forces have gained enough experience in warfare. T-35(the best tank the world has ever seen from WW2),T-55,MIG 21,MI-8,T-66 and similar soviet armour were destroyed by the South Africans. South African pilots flew against AA fire in Angola including SAMs.
south african navy and army has never engaged in a large scale marine amphibious warfare operation with 40,000 soldiers and equipment landing inside the death traps of nigerian niger delta mangrove swamps as done by nigerian amry 3rd marine commandoes in Biafra war.

why dont you also come back when south african military has used its navy to move 15,000 soldiers with amoured vehicles and artillery to 2 different countries 4,000km away from homeland to fight against 80,000 enemy forces that have anti-tank guns, anti-aircraft guns, RPG, mortars, light artillery, landmines, and cannibal fighters that eat human beings ?

drag_on: This thread is not just not Nigeria vs South Africa, but top military in Africa.

You do not have BVR period, and there are quite a few African Nations that have FACT.
yes you are right, south africa does NOT have any BVR (Beyond Visual Range) missile because the technical fact is that ant missile with range less than 30km is NOT qualified as BVR.

funny nigeria and south africa both do not have BVR air power....and it means Gripen jet must be very careful facing an F-7 jet since they both have very modern air to air missiles of about equal range, power, technology, etc....and both jets have to come close into dog fight before they can attack each other.

interesting....pilots skill and training will determine the winner.

SAAF says Gripens being rotated, not stored

by defenceWeb, September 9, 10:34 am

Some of the South African Air Force's fleet of 26 Saab Gripen fighter jets will not be placed in storage but will rather be flown on a rotational basis, according to an Air Force official. Earlier this year it was reported that 12 Gripens had been placed in storage as there was not enough money, nor pilots, to fly them.

South African Air Force (SAAF) Director of Combat Systems, Brigadier General John Bayne, last week told the Seriti commission investigation allegations of impropriety into the multibillion rand arms deal that no Gripens, or Hawk fighter-trainers, had been placed in long-term storage as it would be too expensive to reactivate them.

Bayne said the SAAF's 2 Squadron at Air Force Base Makhado would fly the Gripen fleet in rotation instead, with some aircraft being put in short-term storage between flying cycles in order to minimise the risk of corrosion. Flying hours would thus be spread evenly across the entire Gripen fleet.

And on only 8 pilots.

18 Gripen aircrew (navigators and pilots) have been trained up to operational status to date and 52 Hawk aircrew have been trained so far.
its a big lie, a propaganda.

the leaking out of the 8 Gripen pilots secret, 12 Gripen long term storage secret, one missile each per Gripen secret....

has exposed big weakness in south african national airspace security.

your government has now come up with another seleka type of lie to cover up the truth.

why did this same south african government classify the number of qualified Gripen jet pilots as top secret early this year ?

fear that Angola, Uganda can invade and wreck south africa from the air....

Ugandan air force is now superior to south african air force with the deadly SU-30 MK2 Flanker heavy jet fighters leading the Ugandan force of Israeli upgraded MiG 21 and Mig 23 multi-role jets combination

air power...Uganda SU-30 Flanker multi-role heavy long range jets...terror to south africa

Your airforce is in tatters. All your gripen jets and Agusta 109 luh helicopters are grounded. Your sailors keep crashing your SUB's to the sea bed.

I do not believe that there can be a more incompetent force than the SANDF.

We might not have gripen jets in our airforce, but all our planes are airborne. What's the use of getting gripen jets if they only would be stored in freezers. You could have as well burnt the money you used to buy those jets.
26 Gripen jets...8 Pilots only

26 Gripen jets....25 IRIS-T air to air missiles, only at one missile on each jet. A-DARTA air to air missile confirmed NOT available till 2014.

12 F-7 jets....more than enough pilots

12 F-7 jets.....more than enough air to air missiles

12 F-7 jets.....more than enough local maintenance in nigeria

12 F-7 jets....more than enough availability to fly anytime, any day, anywhere .

a living dog is better than a dead lion !

i just found out a Valour frigate can be sunk by a few F-7 jets....a tactical use of underestimated weapons, the F-7 has some deadly ground attack weapons that cost many millions of dollars ! i will post a simulation tomorrow sunday...but still writing it up...needs accurate calculations

i wish NAF could use that as a temporary anti-shipping platform till we get JF-17 or others jet.

For more than 50 years, South Africa has been a leader in electronic countermeasures, providing cost-effective, operationally integrated, fully supported self-protection systems. Nigerian systems can be jammed your commander in the field won't receive orders from Abuja or coordinate strikes with jets,South Africa did this before during the bush war. To be precise during the battle of Cassinga. Here's a quote below of SAAF Oryx helicopter fitted for that job.

"There is an electronic warfare (STAND-OFF
communications jamming/radar jamming)
version of the Oryx that is equipped with the
Grinaker Systems Technologies (GST) GSY
1501 jamming system, among others. The first
Oryx variant with a large log periodic antenna
on the starboard side was regarded as quite an
effective EW platform. This platform is capable
of disrupting key communications during
various stages of modern, air-, land-, and sea
battles. In addition it is used as an effective
training aid to the SANDF, to test their function
as an effective fighting force, despite any EW
methods employed against the SA Forces. A
further advantage is, EW equipment in use by
the SA Forces can be effectively evaluated and
calibrated under simulated battlefield
scenarios. One variant has its main cabin doors
replaced by dome shaped antennas."
south africa can go and be jamming radars and use electronic warfare on your local area brothers like lesotho, swaziland, mozambique, namibia.

please dont post that your anciant Oryx helicopter here again, it cannot jam any nigerian military equipment, because nigeria has the most modern and most advanced NATO standard electronic warfare aircraft in all Africa....the mighty NAF ATR-42 SURVEYOR AIRCRAFT that can track 100 targets over a range of 330 km and do all necessary state of the art electronic support measures warfare against the enemy and the NAF aircraft will NOT be detected by the enemy because it operates outside the range of enemy radar of even the south african valour frigate and the NAF surveyor electronis operationj is silent because it is passive mode that detects, analyzes and neutralizes the enemy without the enemy being aware that nigeria is electronically attacking it.

"The ATR 42 Surveyor can load the wide spectrum of equipment required to conduct that kind of missions such as radar, FLIR, TV camera, Electronic Support Measures (ESM), Communications and Navigation systems. In addition, bubble panoramic windows have been provided to the Surveyor for optimal visual observation of the environment."

http://www.deagel.com/AEWandC-ISR-and-EW-Aircraft/ATR-42-Surveyor_a000090003.aspx

"In military telecommunications, the terms Electronic Support (ES) or Electronic Support Measures (ESM) describe the division of electronic warfare involving actions taken under direct control of an operational commander to detect, intercept, identify, locate, record, and/or analyze sources of radiated electromagnetic energy for the purposes of immediate threat recognition (such as warning that fire control RADAR has locked on a combat vehicle, ship, or aircraft) or longer-term operational planning. Thus, Electronic Support provides a source of information required for decisions involving Electronic Protection (EP), Electronic Attack (EA), avoidance, targeting, and other tactical employment of forces. Electronic Support data can be used to produce signals intelligence (SIGINT), communications intelligence (COMINT) and electronics intelligence (ELINT).

Electronic support measures gather intelligence through passive "listening" to electromagnetic radiations of military interest.
Electronic support measures can provide

(1) initial detection or knowledge of foreign systems
(2) a library of technical and operational data on foreign systems
(3) tactical combat information utilizing that library.

ESM collection platforms can remain electronically silent and detect and analyze RADAR transmissions beyond the RADAR detection range because of the greater power of the transmitted electromagnetic pulse with respect to a reflected echo of that pulse. "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_warfare_support_measures

nigerian army, navy and air force all have their electronic warfare equipment for jamming or anti-jamming operations.

no african country, not even mighty Egypt can jam nigerian radars or missile systems like Roland SAM or Otomat AShM etc.

you these foolish south africans believe only your over-rated countries has modern war equipment ? south africa does NOT even have a space satellite for military use like nigeria grin

Nigerian should buying South African military hardware buy not with their pride.....Africans would never be seen supporting other Africans especially when matters of pride is concern....Hence Africans would rather be seen with other nationalities than blacks. The time Africans like South Africa its only when they failed to obtain a visa to travel oversees and then use South Africa as an alternative.

Hence Africans think South Africa is a dumping ground for the unemployed and illiterate Africans who believes they are better than South Africans and yet survive on South African hospitality. South Africa is running away from anything that could attract terrorists retaliation in their own 'safe' country.

Nigeria and Algeria are the only African powers with experience to help Kenya from now on.

NaijaPikinGidi: So sad that rather than protect public property the Kenyan Defence Force soldiers had field days looting the deserted Shops at the Westgate Mall. Not a good way to empathise with the victims of the attack!

Shopkeepers in Nairobi’s Westgate Mall returned to their stores Monday after the bloody four-day militant siege to find their inventories plundered and display cases smashed, but they’re not blaming the gunmen who killed dozens before finally being subdued. Instead, many vendors think it was the Kenyan Security Forces who looted their stores, the Associated Press reports.

Kenyan Security Forces cordoned off the mall as soon as the attack began on Sept. 21, and only security officials and government personnel were allowed in and out of the mall. Since the attack, alcohol has disappeared from restaurants, jewelry cases have been smashed, and cash registers were emptied.

This isn’t the first time poorly-paid Kenyan Security Forces have been accused of stealing from property they’re supposed to protect. There were also reports of looting during the major fire at Nairobi’s main airport in August.

Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed the thefts in a news conference on Sunday. “Those responsible for looting will be prosecuted,” Lenku said. But storekeepers will have to report their losses to the Kenyan Security Forces.
typical african problem...na waa oh !
