Patchesagain:
Are you saying that the ATR42 is on the same level as the Sentinel?
Each has it's own advantages, ATR-42 is MULTI-MISSION ISTAR for land and sea warfare and that makes it better than the Sentinel until the British complete their upgrade to make the Sentinel do maritime ISTAR like Nigerian ATR-42.

Sentinel is a more expensive aircraft with overall higher specs, but the ATR-42 does the same job.

Both were tested in Boko Haram war and results were the same in ISTAR data output.

You should consider a career in Nollywood SiFi scrip writing Mr fantasy researcher.

Can you please outline the specs about the Sentinel being a inferior aircraft compared to your dummy model ATR-42.
I posted it yesterday, Britain has decided to copy Nigerian ISTAR power by upgrading the RAF Sentinel to become maritime patrol like NAF ATR-42 Surveyor, the world power British air force wants to become multi-mission ISTAR power like Nigeria.

However, British air force has NOT found anything worth copying from the ancient category South African air force that is 166 years behind NAF

SAAF gripen doesnt have the endurance of a dedicated platform. Gripen is a multirole aircraft, if you want to do ISTAR you will have to sacrifice things like weapons payload, fuel carriage, higher crew workload. E.t.c plus short time on station. The Gripen can only dash in and out of the theater to re-fuel or re-arm. Look below for ISTAR king of Africa.
[size=14pt]

Nigerian air force ATR-42 Surveyor aircraft is truly the African king of ISTAR, it flies 11 hours continuous operation at low, medium, and high altitudes.

Many American, Asian, and European ISTAR aircraft CANNOT match the super-long endurance mission capability of NAF ATR-42, and the NAF aircraft is also a MULTI-MISSION ISTAR aircraft for both maritme/ocean and land/ground military operations.

Even the British air force trying to copy Nigeria by upgrading their Sentinel R.1 aircraft to do maritime ISTAR so that they can improve Royal air force to Nigeria's super-majestic level in ISTAR.

South African air force is now 166 years behind Nigeria in ISTAR.

NO ARGUMENT !!

I still have a lot to teach you!

The systems TDL, radar, FLIR, TV cameras etc enable it to undertake such missions.

SA is one of the leading countries in electronic warfare components developments.
NAF Mi-35 Hind E has all those your hardware too, so does that make it an ISTAR platform ?

Electronic warfare is NOT same as ISTAR you domingo ! Almost every military jet fighter and helicopter has EW hardware on board.

So you are saying that the ATR42MP (maritime patrol) has the same capacity as the platforms in the USAF and RAF?

Please tell me you are saying that
Yes ! NAF is equal in ISTAR to USAF, RAF, we are world class !

LOL....LOLZ...My sides grin grin South Africans don't know about Multi-Mission ISTAR....too advanced for a Soweto brain

Actually the British air force is now upgrading her own Sentinel ISTAR aircraft to do maritime patrol like Nigerian air force ATR-42.

South Africans know NOTHING about ISTAR, their race and generations have NEVER seen one such aircraft grin grin

Let me educate you 50 million Southies in the village nation of ANC. You see, powerful countries like Nigeria, China, Britain, etc do buy ISTAR aircraft for land patrol or maritime patrol initially, then later do upgrade and add the other capacity to get the aircraft to be perfect on land and sea operations, it is called MULT-MISSION ISTAR you South African born fooooools !

NAF has upgraded our ATR-42 Maritime to now do perfect land ISTAR plus sea ISTAR, upgrade done in Britain.

RAF of Britain is now upgrading their own land ISTAR, the Sentinel, to do maritime ISTAR after Nigeria advanced ahead of them.

"The United Kingdom is to begin the process of upgrading its fleet of Raytheon Sentinel R.1 Airborne Stand-Off Radar (ASTOR) surveillance aircraft to conduct maritime operations in mid-2015, the government disclosed on 24 October. The news that work to upgrade the Sentinel R.1's maritime capabilities will soon begin, the RAF is looking to introduce enhanced capabilities to the surveillance aircraft to turn it into a true multi-mission platform."

http://www.janes.com/article/45057/uk-to-upgrade-sentinel-r-1s-for-maritime-operations

That is why Nigerian ATR-42 became multi-mission ISTAR aircraft perfected for maritime war and land war, that's why NAF wrecked Boko Haram as Nigeria controlled the entire battle-fields the size of Scotland, from the air !

That is how Nigeria will delete the SANDF in battle from 330 km away !

All 50 million South Africans have learnt from a Nigerian free web education classroom again today o !

The British Sentinel dome on top of fuselage is NOT radar, it's ELINT SATCOM hardware dome, confirmed by military sources :

"The modifications include a canoe-shaped radome under the forward fuselage to house the radar antenna, a radome on the upper fuselage to house the SATCOM antenna."

http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/astor/

Next time, remember that radars for ISTAR aircraft are under fuselage, not above it like AWACS, MikeCAR Olodo grin grin

The Nigerian ATR-42 upgrade put the dome, ELINT dome on top fuselage like the British and Chinese airforce.

South Africa can go try put a dome on their C-47 Dakota and lets see all the 50 year old aluminium aircraft fall into pieces grin grin

"The GX-8 is believed to be an electronic intelligence (ELINT) gathering platform, mounting four distinctive elongated antennas on its fuselage. The ATR 42MP Surveyor is an affordable maritime patrol aircraft, developed and built by Alenia Aermacchi from the airframe of the proven ATR 42 twin-turboprop regional aircraft.

Its main roles are maritime patrol for surface vessel search and identification, search and rescue (SAR), prevention of piracy, contraband and narcotics smuggling, environmental monitoring and disaster clean up (against oil or chemical spills), territorial water security.

Source: http://www.aleniaaermacchi.it/products-prodotti/advanced-surveillance-sorveglianza-avanzata/atr-42mp-1

As you can see the OEM(Original equipment manufacture) has stated its roles.

Nigeria doesn't have a dedicated ISTAR aircraft.

F-7 jet uses Recce pods too, so F-7 = Gripen grin grin

Dedicated ISTAR aircraft do NOT need configuration to do the job, the fact that Gripen uses romovable pods means it's NOT is made for ISTAR.

You and other hundred military writers have the tendency of referring to maritime surveillance as ISTAR aircrafts. That is wrong but I will have to admit that it is what is used for.

ISTAR is a task rather than an aircraft, just like you would refer to "eating" as a task of replenishing your energy level. ISTAR is as well a task of studying the battle field.

Just because you don't have a spoon in the house does not mean you cannot do a simple task as eating, there is always a substitution. That translate to ISTAR duties as well. Since SANDF has a data link it can always perform such tasks with the use of recce pods as we have seen with NATO forces in Libya.

SAAF Gripen carries the same Recce pod made for Jaguar jets, so NAF too cxan claim our 18 Jaguar jets are ISTAR aircraft?

https://www.thalesgroup.com/en/nited-kingdom/defence/air-group/isr/digital-joint-reconnaissance-pod

Why don't Nigeria use F-7 jets recce pods instead of spending $120 million on ATR-42 aircraft for ISTAR ?

ISTAR aircraft don NOT use tiny Recce pods, they use GIANT SIZE RADOME....see under the belly of NAF ISTAR.....and show me such in SAAF !

Only because you are using a plane (ATR-42 surveyor) with built-in recce pods, so that makes you better in ISTAR. The gripen Reece pods are perfectly equipped to do what your ATR-42 does.

A perfect example would be that of a lap top with built-in Bluetooth ™ device and that which would have to use bluetooth™ dongles in order to share data but at the end of the day they achieve the same results. A lap top with built-in camera and the one that would have to use external accessory cameras, etc. Yet, they all achieve same results.

Your ATR-42 cannot operate in a contested air-space at all.

Gripen is a combat jet - it is designed to operate in contested air-space. Operations in Libya prove it.

SAAF ISTAR can operate in contested airspace
Nigerian ISTAR cannot

Proven by the fact that NATO chose the Gripen and not the ATR-42 to perform ISTAR duties in Libya!!!
Gripen showed face for about 30 minutes max endurance, Only after NATO did a SEAD on Libyan air defences that were already crippled by years of military embargo.

ATR-42 does not need to enter enemy airspace, it just flies around loitering on Nigerian air base and it's wizard eyes of a radar can see 330 km away !!!!!
