ConfusePoint: Ranting. Ranting. Ranting.
I have decided to rant out my predicaments on this forum today.
What is the way out of poverty for me?
One inlaw is even living with us, making it 8 in number, all in one room.
This thing don come big pass me.
I know most of you here would blame me for impregnating a woman to give birth to that number of children but then, life is life. It happens like that sometimes.
They say a poor man's prayer is "e go better" but instead of things to get better in Nigeria, everyday things get worse.
Truth is, except I drive myself out of this mess to a better life for me and my children, this poverty that is so stricken will likely be extended to my children, which I really don't want.
No two ways about it except ...
But like a car without tyres, can it move even if it has fuel? Definitely no.
For 4 days now, I sleep outside in an abandoned car because of financial war at home. I can't go back home and I even feel like never to go back there but should I abandon them like that and run away? To where?
When I went to the market the other day with 5k to buy food items for the house, I was crying and talking to myself on my way back because I came back with almost nothing.
Nigeria have succeed to plug life out of poor Nigerians. The poor cannot breathe again. Let's die and go.
Advice: never give birth when you are not financially strong. Unfortunately, I've learned my lesson the hard way.
Life happens.
How do I help this family better than I am trying?
Wishing you the best in all you do. Who did your family vote for in the last election and how has your life been after elections? This is what I have been asking complainants since 2015. |

Note that I brush my teeth 2 to three times daily cause I hate it when plaques started building up after eating. But those stains have remained.

Cheap fuel has not benefited our economy. At all. It is why we don't have working refineries, why we even have inflation and deficits.
Fuel costs money to refine. Subsidy removal was not planned, it was abrupt and you know it. Maybe Atiku or Obi would have approached it differently. Talk about having a functional govt- owned refinary, ot having significantly improved power supply before subsidy removal. |

Car Talk › Re: The Effect Of Fuel Subsidy Removal On The Prices Of Cars by Aguogba(m): 6:08pm On Jun 06, 2023 |
zeenaman: Personal opinion:
The relationship between cars and Petrol is complementary in nature. Complementary in the sense that, one is needed to augment the other, just like garri and kulikuli.
Going by basic economics principle, there is an inverse price relationship between complementary goods i.e an increase in the price of one results in decrease in the demand for the other. With this, it is conceivable that with increase in the price of petroleum, there will be less demand for cars, hence result in price crash occasioned by excess supply over demand.
Also, from the angle of the Federal government, the rich benefit more from the subsidy. People with ten cars will now find it unfunny fueling the convoy, and this may result in selling off some of the vehicles. This should further increase the supply of cars and drive down the price.
Let's talk about this, do you see the price of cars crashing? Let's leave out the Nigerian factor, corruption and base our argument on fact. All these your economic theories are correct IF supply (production and assembly) of cars is mainly LOCAL. As long as the bulk of cars we drive is imported, the reduction in price will only be felt on "Naija used". Brand new and Toks will still depend on exchange rate and import duty. The spillover effect of cheaper naira used will be insignificant. |

maasoap: Long story. The price you buy determines the price you sell. They're selling subsidised petrol at 500/L. If you go back and buy 450/L now, you're free to determine what price you will sell to make profit. Did you read the calculations at all? I am telling you something practical and you are talking about some phantom theories that don't work in real life. Well to educate further, the only 2 options that the dealer can adopt to make profit out of this scenario is to 1. Sell at the higher price (maybe 450 naira per litre) and quit the business and join another one, e.g building materials 2. Sell at the higher price, put his capital in the bank and hopes the subsidy removal is reversed or that depot price goes way below that selling price (450 naira/L) through competition then he starts same business again. This is the same law that guides stock trading. Thank me later for these nuggets. |

maasoap: Why would you buy at 2500 naira and sell at 2000 naira
You don't know your Maths at all. The price you buy determines the price you sell. You bought N170 per litre and sell N450 per litre, you already made your profit. If you go back and buy at N500 per litre, you won't come back and sell at N450/L. So my friend, why would you say anyone who bought subsidised petrol and selling N500/L now doesn't make profit? Go back to school Your response is the shallowest I've gotten in my life. Wetin you no Sabi pass you. If you need business education, go and do apprenticeship. I won't educate you for free. |

Go back to school Lol. Now i know why a lot of people fail in business. To make it clear like ABC to you like a JJC that you are. Assume you got a loan to start petroleum retail. You rented a station everything is in place. You used your capital and bought A SINGLE TANKER of petrol as at May 25th for 175/L ×33,000 (5,775,000) . Normally you would sell for 220/L and make profit of 45/L (profit is 1,485,000 ) Now after 29th May, subsidy is removed. As novice wey u be, u rush sell that product for 450/L. For your "Olodo" mind u don hammer be that. Na to go price land for a new station. 450×33,000 =14,850,000. (profit is 9,075,000 abi) Then you go to depot to buy ANOTHER SINGLE TANKER of 33,000 litres of petrol and they tell you Depot price is 480/L 480×33,000= 15,840,000. Now answer me, did you MAKE PROFIT? |

priceactionx: so pe otilo I learnt that this is how many of these fuel cabals operate to cheat the government. Some get access to oil blocks ( but cant refine the crude oils) so they ship it and sell it to their cronies that have a lot of stakes in modular refineries abroad, in which they import it back to nigeria at a subsidized rates being paid by the government. So virtually carrying nigerian crude oil abroad to refine, and sell it far higher than even the supposed money without the subsidy, yet come back, claim subsidies, making monies in multiple ways, claiming they are multi billionaire , forbes this, forbes that. If you look well, they are same people behind all these forex and dollar manipulations. My fear is that until i see this new government encouraging and commisioning modular refineries after maximum, let's say, 2 years of this price adjustments in each region, and selling crude oil at local price in naira directly , simuteneoulsy, to the operators, things may be getting worse. If i remember, Tinubu said he would waive a lot of taxes for investors that want to be part of oil industry revolutions, so that they get waivers to subsidize the price and improve employments to the citizen if elected, ( cos he himself is an oil expert and know much of the industry) BUT CAN WE Really TRUST POLITICIANS in nigeria? Will they allow him to work?
Do we, nigerians have that patience? DONT WE, as a citizens like cutting corners just look at how filling stations sky rockets their prices overnights over the stock they have at hand? Drop gas price by 10 naira and you will hear them saying they have never seen any official letters. It will take them 2 months to adjust. Same thing should be aplicable to all other sectors especially agricultural sector, region by region ,which i also believe that shetimma is also an expert in that sector and can handle that. Revolutionise and encourage mechanized farming and let the price of basic food fall and avoidable. I dont know if it is practicable or possible. i just dont know. Make I ask you this. If you go to poultry farm and BUY 1 crate of egg at 1k to SELL AT 1500 and on your way back, you hear that purchase price is now 2k to sell 2500. Do you think that you will make profit even if you sell that one you bought for 2k? These are simple knowledge that business people possess that even learned people outside the business community don't easily understand. You have to be involved to understand what they know. This singular example I gave you above is a tip of the iceberg. It is one of the reasons that inexperienced people lose their capital and fold up through bankruptcy. They do not know economic secrets that guide businesses. That is why Igbos do "NWABOY" or apprenticeship for every branch of business. When you prove yourself worthy, Oga go leak some of these priceless secrets to you. Dem no dey teach am for school. Coming back to the subject, a petroleum dealer that bought his PMS (petrol) for e.g 170/L cannot make profit even if he sells each litre for 450naira. The ONLY way he can make profit and remain in business is to sell at his NORMAL margin ON TOP of the current (EX DEPOT) pump price. Unfortunately, this price is not yet fixed by FG /NNPC, PPMC So, most marketers, as it stands, will prefer to LOCK UP their stations pending official depot price release. Those that want to GAMBLE can only afford to sell at a margin of e.g 10-15 Naira above NNPC station prices for each state. That's the only way they stay in business irrespective of how much they bought the fuel that they have now. Remember, they will have to buy another consignment after selling what they have. |

DownTime44: https://www.nairaland.com/7686172/been-restless-having-chat-elder
All thanks to everyone for their immense contributions towards my elder brother predicament. This place is truly home away from home. For those getting to know or who just come across this thread, you can read through the link posted above to get a grasp of where I'm coming from.
Someone sent me a mail having gone through my post and we both shared contact. He works on the island and he was willing to absorb my elder brother into his organisation. It's an organisation where one learn a skills and get paid monthly. Then after being certified in your skills, you can be employed as a full staff into the organisation. He would be given #20,000 monthly as stipend while learning as an apprentice but the man promised to be adding #10,000 to it making a total of #30,000 monthly. This person didn't know me from Adam but was touched by my brother's condition and he developed interest in helping him in his own little way. He asked me to inform my elder brother and get back to him.
I discussed everything to my brother verbally. Infact, i relate everything to him in my mother's tongue for ease of communication. I asked him if he has any interest in the offer and he said yes. He has interest. He's very much interested. He said he'd specialised in plumbing. I reached out to the man and we both finalise everything. He asked my brother when would he love to resume and he said month end. After the call, i asked him why month end and he said he doesn't have anything. He needs to get some few clothes, toiletries and some money for upkeep. I asked him where would he get money from less than 2 weeks to month end. He claimed if he can see any bus to work with. I told him you've been out of job going to a year, you didn't get any bus. Why do you think you'd get a bus within a short space of time? I asked him what if i rally round for him, is he willing to resume before the month end, he said yes with happy face. I borrowed #10,000 from a friend, i had #5,000 left with me, making a total of #15,000. I gave him 2 pairs of trousers and shirt i had. He bought a small school bag of #3,000 to put his clothes and he left in two days time. That was last week Wednesday. Oh! God, i was the happiest man on earth that very day.. I was so happy for him believing that he would become somebody from there. I called him to know if he has gotten there and how the work was. He said everything was fine.
I was surprised to see my brother at home on Friday, two days after he left. I asked him hope all is well? He said yes. I asked him why did he came back home so soon considering the cost of transportation to island. He was given a room he'd put up with. I expected him to stay there and focus on his job, whenever i have any money i would send to him. The man that helped him with the job called me later in the day. He narrated the gross misconduct of my brother. My brother left the job on Friday during working hours. The work is Monday to Saturday. Though Saturday is half day. He explained every details of the job to my brother before he resumed work. My brother was assigned to someone else to work with, not directly the man that helped him. The man only came to check up on him daily to know how he's fairing. The man was there when my brother took his bag, headed outside with the claim that he was going home. The man told him he can't go home now till after work, which is on Saturday. My brother didn't listen to the boss he was assigned with nor the man that helped him. He left right in their presence.
They do give daily report, and the man he was assigned with reported that he doesn't have anyone to work with, particularly on Saturday. The management asked him about my brother assigned to him and he said he has left on Friday. My brother was dismissed for his attitude. I pleaded to give him a second chance, but the man said it was beyond his power. The management has decided. I asked him to report there today and apologise for his gross misconduct. He went but apology wasn't accepted. If i was the man that helped my brother with this job or if i was among the management. I would do the same thing. I'd gladly lay him off without thinking twice.
My mother had been crying having heard the outcome of everything. I myself had cry my eyes out, all because of this my elder brother. I am fed up. The burden is too much. I might be tempted to harm him living under the same roof with him. I had been trying to console my mum but she wouldn't listen. Landlord came to harass her last week, the very day my elder brother left, because of house rent. I had 3 younger siblings to look after. Here comes my elder brother problem again. I am responsible for all of these with my meagre pay. I don't know what else to do for this guy. I don't think i can put up with him anymore. I am tired. Why is this life full of problems? I am losing my mind completely. 1. Your brother has lost the zeal to strive. This can be due to substance abuse which you may be ignorant of. It can also be due to latent depression (subclinical stage) as a result of negative events he has suffered previously (secret chronic illness, heartbreak) or currently (losing his conductor job). 2. Start by having a heart to heart talk with him. Don't sound like he is your younger brother or show any form of superiority which may make him defensive. Just gist like a friend who he can confide with. Find out if he is still mentally and physically sound and fit. Best way to have this gist is with green bottles if you're not a Muslim. 2k go run am. 3. Find out what he has FLAIRS for. Those things that he can naturally do and derive joy doing them. At this stage of his life, those are the only things he can commit to even when "village people" try to distract him. If he is artistic, he can learn barbing. If he has ears for music or likes instruments, help him join a local band, even traditional groups. Those little things he naturally loves. You self suppose Sabi those things wey be say your bro get interest in. 4. As u have been advised, don't give up on him. Blood is thicker than water. |

Or better still, let there be a constitutional provision for people to only be eligible to vote in their state of origin. Lack of COMPULSORY and continuous national birth and death registration which means no social security number (person number) 3. Federal character. 4.
