Business › Re: Can Someone Explain The Unification Of Exchange Rate Market by ahaz: 12:03pm On May 31, 2023 |
Ynix: Hmm, I believe that the present Government can do the the following to achieve that. Strengthening the official exchange rate: The government could take measures to strengthen the official exchange rate by increasing the supply of foreign currency, particularly US dollars, through various means. This could include promoting exports, attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), encouraging remittances, and implementing policies to boost foreign currency reserves.
Economic reforms: The government could implement structural reforms to improve the overall economic situation, enhance investor confidence, and attract foreign capital. This might involve addressing issues related to infrastructure development, power supply, ease of doing business, and governance. By creating a conducive environment for investment and economic growth, the government can increase the inflow of foreign currency.
Foreign exchange market interventions: The central bank may increase its interventions in the foreign exchange market to stabilize the exchange rate. This could involve selling foreign currency reserves, particularly US dollars, to meet the demand and reduce the disparity between the official and parallel market rates.
Fiscal discipline and monetary policy: The government can pursue fiscal discipline by managing public finances effectively, reducing budget deficits, and implementing prudent monetary policies. Sound macroeconomic management can help stabilize the economy, control inflation, and attract foreign investment, which, in turn, may improve the availability of foreign currency.
Collaboration with international partners: The government can engage with international financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), to explore potential assistance programs, loans, or financial support aimed at stabilizing the exchange rate and addressing economic challenges. These partnerships can bring expertise and resources to help manage foreign currency liquidity and improve economic stability.
Diversification of the economy: Promoting economic diversification away from oil dependency can contribute to reducing the pressure on foreign exchange. By developing other sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services, and technology, Nigeria can enhance export earnings and reduce the reliance on imported goods, thereby improving the availability of foreign currency.
Curbing capital flight and illicit financial flows: The government can implement measures to combat capital flight and illicit financial flows, which contribute to the scarcity of foreign currency. Strengthening regulations, improving transparency, and enhancing anti-corruption efforts can help retain foreign exchange within the country and reduce the need for multiple exchange rate windows.
It's important to note that eliminating the dual exchange rate system would require a comprehensive approach that addresses the underlying economic factors and structural issues contributing to the current situation. Additionally, communication and coordination with relevant stakeholders, including businesses, financial institutions, and citizens, would be crucial to ensure a smooth transition and build confidence in the unified exchange rate system. Your papa money no waste. |

This is really wicked & selfish on Buhari's part. His actions over the last few weeks is so disheartening. Tinubu is from APC so I don't even understand why he is setting him up for failure.
The sad thing is it's the people that will bear the brunt. The issue here is that most of you here are too young to understand the dynamics of Nigerian politics as it plays out. There is this notation existing amongst northern politicians and that is the pattern of trying to sell the idea of the north being better off with power than an average southern fellow...Buhari told us that he could not find capable hands in any other part of Nigeria except his darling north, and today, the result is a full blown disaster. Buhari like many of us who did't support Tinubu, on my part I believe am voting my own brother from my tribe, but I know of a truth and will continue to say it unapologetically that Tinubu is a performer..Buhari knows this for sure. If Tinubu is allowed to function optimally without hitches, he will out perform Buhari a billion times over and thats what Buhari and some northern elites don't want to see.. So they will sell the narrative that they are better so that in the next dispensation, they will still rally the illiterate northern population and sell the same garbage narrative to them and trust me, it will fly like an eagle. Remember, OBJ did well, Jonathan did well, then Buhari came in and dragged us back to the stone age..so he knew this very well and that's why he told the northern masses that the one coming after him will be worst than him..but God forbid and back to sender. The good thing is that, they are barking at the wrong tree, Obi my brother has lost, the election has come and gone, let's key in with Asiwaju and pray for Gods mercy of hood health upon him and see what this man will do. |

DennisEche: Anambra State Police Command has given an update on last Tuesday’s attack on the convoy of United States (US) Embassy officials in the state, revealing that it has arrested two persons in connection with the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, (CP) Echeng Echeng, said police operatives moved swiftly as soon as the Command got information of the attack.
He said they combed and raided a camp used by gunmen in the area and found that it had been totally deserted, but were able to arrest two persons, who, he hinted, are now helping police in their investigation.
He said the number of deaths recorded in the incident was seven. He listed the names of those killed as Jefferson Obayuwane, retired Department of State Service (DSS) personnel; Sunday Ubong, Ekene Nweke, Hassan Etila, Avwuvie Kaye Monday, Bukar Kabuiki (Police), Emmanuel Lukpata (Police), Friday Morgan (Police) and Adamu Andrew (Police).
The Commissioner lamented that the seven persons, including three US Consulate officials and four police escorts, were killed during the attack, while two other officials of the Consulate are yet to be found.
The police operatives are all of inspectorate rank and serve at Squadron 23, Police Mobile Force, Lagos.
Echeng noted that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited in a morgue, while the Command and other security agencies are working round-the-clock, in concert with the Anambra State government, to find and rescue the missing officials.
The CP said the arrested men have had their contacts traced through their phone conversation, and that the Command is gradually closing in on the killers.
Hear him: “Preliminary investigation conducted by the Command revealed that five officials of the US Consulate and four armed mobile police escorts from Lagos, on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in Ogbaru Council, were travelling in a convoy of two vehicles when they suddenly came under attack by armed men who targeted them with gunfire and set their vehicles ablaze.” So when will you raid the camps of Fulani terrorist? How many arrests have you made regarding the genocide in Jos and Nassarawa states? |
