History was yesterday made in the country as the president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo performed the foundation laying ceremony of Nigeria's first Private refinery, Orient Petroleum Refinery (OPR) at Nsugbe-Umuleri, Anambra East Council Area of Anambra State.

The parent company Orient Petroleum Resource ltd, (OPRL) was licensed in June, 2002, by the Federal Government to construct a Private refinery with a 55,000 b/d, while at the same time granting the company two petroleum prospecting license blocks to provide a dependable source of crude oil feed stock to Orient Refinery as a way of providing long term security for the huge investment in the refinery.

I plan to visit Abeokuta soon and it'll be nice to have an Idea which nice hotel/lodge is close to the Train station and quite affordable (at most 10k per night). The other hotel i lodged lastime was like a waste of money (20k per night). I don't want to have have a bad experience of wasted funds again.

I think it’s a tax peculiar to Lagos state. It’s a sales tax that is applicable to the hospitality industry i think. Not too sure though.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has urged business owners including, restaurants, hotels, and event centers in the state on the need to comply with the monthly collection of a five per cent consumption tax on all consumables and personal services.

In a statement on Thursday, the agency said by complying with the consumption tax, business owners were contributing to the development of the state.

The Lagos State in June 2009, enacted the Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Law of Lagos State otherwise called Hotel Consumption Law, which imposed consumption tax at five per cent on the value of goods and services consumed in hotels, restaurants, and event centers within the state.

The tax base is the total cost of facilities, consumables, or personal services supplied to a consumer in, by, or on behalf of the hotel, restaurant, or events center.
