7842I: I have answered you this question and you still keep asking again, Achebe, through his books and stance on some national issues developed the minds of millions of Africans, and made me propud when he rejected (with good reasons) OBJs national awards. Achebe stands too tall.ok how has this improve the life of any average man ? Efikman: And what positive impact did Awolowo make in Nigeria (not yorubaland ohhh)This is not about Awolowo but if you must know. That NTA channel which is the first television station in Africa before likes of France had one started as WNTV from Awolowo. Nigeria for many years had only NTA as the best channel station in Africa. That is an achievement to the life of any AVERAGE Nigerian. Also since he gave free education to his Yoruba people, their are thousands of Ijaws and Igbos that benefited from it. The first school he built was in Urhoboland.
his achievements for Nigeria as a politicians or private citizen? what is your own achievement for Nigeria since Achebe is also a member of the public like you? Are you also worried you are not a true Yoruba according to awo since you are not ijebu?
I am a private citizen and not know like Achebe because I know if I die, I might not get the honour Achebe is commanding out of ignorance. If Achebe is to be respected, then we all should see his impact or am I talking out of ignorance here ? The fundamental fact has not be stated here. The question has not be answered by the so called educated intelligent people |
Niggmatic: Well, you do not need the 'Igbo bigot' to tell you his achievements. Just a click on any international media web site will do the magic. Meanwhile, i hope some folks are not down with heart attack on this man greatness. You see, this is one of the reasons I dislike discussing with the so called educated Nigerians. Majority or illiterates IMO, google or the internet had any answer, would I be asking the question. No one in the world has any information on Achebe's impact to the average Nigerian and as such, I am asking those defending his honour to state it clearly without any insult or sarcasm, Achebe's impact to the average Nigerian or Igbo man on the street. I loved the man and respect him even till this point because of his achievement but it does not erase the question. |
Nobel prize is a price awarded by white racist folks. Nobel lost its value when they denied Achebe the award. Nobel or none Achebe has the highest ever selling literary work in Africa and has been crowned the father of African literature . That's what we call achievement not some award by some fat old racist folks in Norway.
You would not be saying this if Achebe had won it Why are you people so hypocritical ? Moreover if Achebe knew that, why didn't asked them to drop out of the race last year ? |
Billyonaire: The impact is simple. He told the truth about Awolowo's betrayal, Ojukwu's sacrifice and why we are where we are. Awolowo in his quest to rule Nigeria for 'even one day' went ahead to plan a coupe' in our neigbouring country to overthrow the Military Government and was also Betrayed by Jakande, just as he betrayed Ojukwu, his conversations were recorded and presented to the military junta, he was instructed to 'take the path of honor', He committed Suicide. This is truth and its bitter. You see what I mean, you mentioned all these Awolowo did. NOW WAS ACHEBE THERE TO COMFIRM THIS FROM USA OR BAIFRA ?? Lets be realistic here and not swallow what every bigot throw at the table IN fact that aside, what was his impact on the average Nigerian |
Are you from Ijebu like Awolpwo? Only Ijebus are true Yoruba according to awo (frog)
No I am a true born Lagosian from the royal family. I am half Awori(father) half Egun (mother). I am not being a tribalist here, teach me and I would understand. I do not intend to stand on my point if I am ignorant here. Tell me the positive impact Achebe achieve in the life of an average Nigerian. Give me good sensible achievements and I would drop this argument. |
Lets be realistic here and not think using sentiment and petty tribalism. Soyinka is not the discussion here. The question is simple and it is not about Achebe's book/s What did Achebe achieve for others before passing on ? I mean, what positive impact did he make ? |
Olufunmibi The controversy was present long before achebe wrote his book, and the animosity would still be present even if he hadnt written it. People are just walking round on eggshells these days, looking for any reason to blame others for the frustration they feel, thus they just latch on to anything as an excuse to vent their tension.
And is the controversy still strong as what Achebe has done now ? How many writers in history since the first AD have written book to paint themselves as the best while others are antagonist to their progress ? |
How many people have actually read the book?
A lot including me. Any problem ? |
Page 15 THESE IGBO Bigots have not told us Achebe's achievement for Nigeria. The impact he made and how he has helped people. 3 months after releasing hate filled book and Igbos rejoicing that the level of tribalism by their Icon he died. Is that not enough sign that even the elements are not happy when Idio.ts cause strif among brothers and friend. I wonder whether these people acutally read their Bibles and yet they claim to be righteous Christians unlike Muslims. No one is happy with his death and we as a nation have paid our respect to the bigot, not that because he was a good writer but because we know how sentimental these igbo people can be. Now they can't answer a simple question, all we are seeing is insults on Yorubas people and their leaders even though no one insulted theirs. I would not digress any further with introduction of Tribalism in the 50's thanks to Nnamdi but the fact remains that this modern times when people are already mixing, Achebe an elderly man did not USE WISDOM to write his book. |
thelastPope: You know what is really funny?Yes very funny indeed because you people know how to lie a lot 1. Fulani and Yoruba marriages are very high 2. Yes it is craze, and so ? 3. Hausa/Fulani alway insult yorubas and Igbos don't ? Should we go back to Achebe's book ? 4. Igbo leader such as Achebe, Nnamdi and co have never insult the ethnic group ? 5. Big fat lie, infact the only antagonist of Hausa/fulani rule are the yorubas remember that. Ever since the first republic to this present date. 6. Business yes which is good, how does that relate to yorubas ? |
solomon111: Awolowo your god, would bow before Achebe if he were alive today. ![]() |
Akshow: Dont forget that the south westerners produced the only Nobel prize winner. A feat achebe will never achieve even in his grave.Although he tried oh !!! |
all4naija: No! Bluetooth, please! There are others like Things Fall Apart, etc. There are facts Things Fall Apart was translated into several languages and sold very well around the world.True, no one is perfect |
Akshow: Dont forget that the south westerners produced the only Nobel prize winner. A feat achebe will never achieve even in his grave. ![]() |
again I smell disintegration soon ![]() |
At least you are made your impart to the world whether positive or negative. Indeed RIP |
Eko Ile: chimanma is too tribal just like ashebe so we know her future just like ashebe = No Nobel. All her writings just like ashebe are all tribal and biafran so whose gonna take her seriously.?GBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Yorubas, if not for a certain desola and her complimentary comments and the responses that I saw, I swear I would have told you all my mind since morning. Thanks desola. For me I know how to abuse and how to praise. For now I hold my peace. Achebe, ekwensi, ola rotimi and soyinka are my favourites, with ola rotimi being the toppest. Achebe wrote his memoir not your grand father's own
speak your mind MR. I am waiting ![]() |
he was truly d greatest
greatest what ? Tribalist or what ? because he was not the greatest, nigerian, igboman, writer, warrior etc so greatest what ? |
Eko Ile: na insult and bad luck for atiku to shower anybody with praise. nuff said true |
RIP Achebe. |
OkparaIgbo: I won't join you in your distasteful stupendouss and iidiotic sense of humour when we are talking of Innocent men, women and children who have died because of the cowarrdic action of your people. Let Chukwu grant me 20 young Igbo men who are ready to die for the liberation of Ndi-Igbo from this entity called nigeria once and for all and then you can read about the men in the History books if you live to..so you are ezeuche. |
Dee60: The president once said that the FG knows them. Who have they tried please?WELL SAID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST COMMENT |
confusion247: Both of you should have a rethink before your deluded celebrations. If what you have as your inheritance is a burnt down market, you are empty. Ask your ancestors what did they achieve from the abandoned property take over? Since after that, are you people better than the GREAT IGBOS? This is my advice for both of you, be hardworking and industrious like every average IGBO man.My ancestor never took anything from anybody and we never experienced any abandon property in Lagos. Don't forget we indigenous Lagosians are yorubas and as such, we are not driven by greed or lust for any vanity but driven by equality and accountability. We are hardworking and industrious and that explains why every single major company in Nigeria has their HQ in the west apart from Lagos inculding nestle, PZ, P and G, etc are all in Ogun state. More banks and companies are being formed daily by Yorubas and that is why out of envy some of you think Yorubas dominates the white collar job market. If that is not resourcefulness and hardwork through humility and level plan ground, then what is ? |
otokx: we will not sell our inheritance, if they can't rent then they should move on.Gbammmmmmmmmm God bless you man !!! |
The fact still remain that Indigenes of an area would always want more rights than invaders or aliens as they were never consulted when this Nigerian was formed. In Lagos state have a serious issue right now |
asha 80: i do not see how delta state factors in this.I don't want to state it here and you know the reason. |
krendo: 42. (1) A citizen of Nigeria of a particular community, ethnic group, place of origin, sex, religion or political opinion shall not, by reason only that he is such a person:-I am fully aware of the constitution but is an average uneducated Nigerian aware ? NO! Nigeria itself is a very very funny country as it is frustrating. No ethnic Nation was consulted to form this country apart from the Hausa, Yoruba and Igbos. Hausa and Yoruba said NO as it is clear that 3 captains can't rule a ship. You see, we have indigenes in every society an just because we have a government does not mean we do not have traditional rulers and indigenes of the society. Indigenes that never knew who Igbo yoruba or hausas are expected to just allow "aliens" to come and take over their heritage (land). This is the same problem we have in plateau, lagos, rivers, abuja and delta state. |
krendo: It has been 43years now since the civil war ended, the declaration has been that as Nigerians we are all one people and are allowed to live as free people in any part of Nigeria. But it seems to me that the Local Government policies time and time again in Port Harcourt has the spectre of post civil war Nigeria written all over it. A situation where people will own shops and if sometimes an accident like fire happens in the market(there are even suspisions that these fires are the ochestrations of clandestine people) the Government then sees it as an opportunity to deny traders of their shops and re-allocate the shops to new people who were never trading in the market is a disgrace and unacceptable. As I type this scenario is currently playing out at New Layout Ultra Modern Market Borikiri, Port Harcourt, River State.@ OP, I don't believe you and I have a good reason to say so When the same issue of Ladipo market ( a market that is Igbo dominated in Lagos) was closed, the Igbos on the internet in a twisted and cunny way made it like they were being persecuted by Lagos state. Now Rivers state has done a similar scenario, you now claim them to be ethnocentric. BUT If indeed those shops were being given back to the locals then so be it (although I disagree with the locals in displaying open tribalism). I have told many people including Hausas and co to know that if they do not BUY properties in their own land but outside, then it is a leased property and would be taken back by the locals sooner or later. That is the HONEST TRUTH. So it really should not sound as a shocker |
nigeria is just a very wicked country. 50 bodies were found in a river and no investigations are being carried out. I mean it is as if it is normal. In sane countries, the whole country would be in fear and would defiantly demand for accountability but in Nigeria, the FG continues with their work, everyone continues like nothing happened. I think it was Odumchi that wrote a letter to the governor last year or so, He should do that again addressing the fact that Nigerians are very uncomfortable with the recent bodies found in the river. |
