Politics › Boko Haram Members Kill Police Officer In Borno by aljharem11(op): 3:24am On Jan 05, 2011 |
TWO suspected Boko Haram gunmen on a commercial motorcycle have killed a policeman in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The victim was returning from night patrol to his Gwange residence in mufti when the bandits struck. The murder of the policeman came two days after Saturday’s setting ablaze of Victory Christ Church (VICC) in the same neighbourhood of Gwange ward by 10 suspected members of the Islamic sect, who allegedly used petro-bombs in burning down the church. Confirming the incident, the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar, said: “Yes, one of our officers and men, Corporal James was shot and killed at about 9.25 a.m. while returning from the office on a night patrol to his Gwange residence”. He told The Guardian that two gunmen on a motorcycle trailed the police officer to his residence before firing shots at him at the entrance to his house. On whether arrests were made, Abubakar said: “No, no arrests were made apart from the 92 suspects held by the police last Thursday, including their financier, Bunu Wakil”, stating that the information provided by some residents to the police yesterday could assist in arresting the assailants. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=34366:boko-haram-members-kill-police-officer-in-borno&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

I remember during the Jos crises some time ago, The Eze in Jos saved lives, provided shelter, food, healthcare and other facilities to Ndigbo in Jos. Do we do away with such men?. andre sorry to bother you but do you know any igbo organisation in borno state,,,i need to join one fast thank you |

Beaf: You must be hallucinating as usual! The only way to deal with those who rule through ethnic bigotry is by calling them out. The Ciroma's, Yakasai's, Kaita', |Kanti Bello's etc may be your brothers, but the surely ain't mine. Neither will ND people ever accept their wicked parasitism. beaf how many times do i want to tell you this people do not represent the north but represent their own interest didn't ciroma say he will march 10million people or so to abuja did he achieve that not all northerners are myopic must southerners just have a preconception about us which is understandable because of the military coups in the past |
Politics › Re: Bianca, Ojukwu’s Wife, Pays Tribute To Jonathan by aljharem11(m): 1:52am On Jan 04, 2011 |
mikeansy: @ Onlytruth
Do not under-estimate the limits of selfish interest and vaulting ambition. Education can not thame a man's insatiable quest for power sometimes.
I will also say to you another thing, quit your we vs them mentality. Not a lot can be achieved under such air of suspicion. In fact we run the risk of a situation where issues of universal interest which obviously benefits Igbos and also other Nigerians get treated with suspicion and hence fail. In a situation like that we all loose.
This is a democracy, Jonathan will not achieve a lot without NASS approval. If you start talking about mainstream issues as if they only benefit sectional interests then we will not make much progress.
I give you an example. Obama fought for Healthcare and risked his political future on it. He said it was for all poor people whether they are white, black, latino or asian americans. But it is obvious he took on this task knowing that amongst poor americans there are more ethnic monorities below the poverty line. Yet the debate was framed as being in the interest of all Americans which it certainly is.
Number 2, there is a reason USA reluctantly chose to do business with Russia and preferred to contain the Russia and Georgia situation as opposed to sticking by Goergia thier traditional allies and antagonising Russia. It is called recognition of inconvinient realities. Russia has a veto power at the UN and is still a super power.
It is in the interest of Ndigbo in the wider Nigeria geopolitics to maintain a healthy relationship with the North and yet have a good relationship with our cousins in the South South. We are a majority ethnic group and so is the Hausas. They need us as much as we need them. An alliance between the igbos and Hausas can achieve either electoral victory or NASS voting results.
But liaising with the South South alone and alienating everyone else is simply a boneheaded move because you can not achieve anything with that alliance. Not electoral victory nor NASS legislative victory.
Make no mistake, when Jonathan's ambition is out of the way one way or the other; the Ijaws and the Hausas will reconcile and you will be left out in the cold if you have made enough enemies by then.
So I honestly do not see the point of this your we against them mentality. Capt Iheanacho was appointed Interior Minister, so what? If he is smart and ensures that we have a National ID card scheme that guarantees that we have a true idea of our population. How is that not in the interest of the whole of Nigeria? If Nigeria is able to fashion out a plan where we set up a programme to achieve true fedralism and dedicate our oil resource in the coast of guinea to develop regional economies so that states get self sufficient, How is that not in the interest of all Nigerians.
better still if we are able to exploit the current NASS overhead cost to restructure to old regions so that cost of running the federal government becomes cheaper and meaning more money to dedicate to programmes like energy, education or health infrastructure. How is that not in the interest of all Nigerians?
This is politics 101. leave your we vs they mentality. It has never worked and will never move this country forward. For the future of Ndigbo is simply intertwined with the future of Nigeria. Stop speaking of main stream interests as if they are some sinister Igbo interest. It is not in the interest of anybody to do so and not certainly in the interest of Ndigbo. may God give you more wisdom as you get older you are truly a clever person as ileke-idi suggested mikeansy: Ndigbo can only be fair minded to all and forge alliances with all who liaise with us.
"tibguo zogbuo" and "we vs them" serves nobody any good.
The civil war ended in 1970, we can either through reaching grown up compromises turn to the next chapter and help create a new destiny for all Nigerians OR you can stay stuck and refight the fights of the 60s and 70s and achieve nothing but to pass this legacy of war/injustice to your children.
Some of us who try to speak of politics in fair minded words are no foolish or aloof; we are simply strategic. more grease to your elbow @onlytruth we should be looking at what will benefit nigerians not only a certain group of people as i said last year " the north has produce the president for 38 years yet we are lacking behind in infrastructures" which show that it is we need to look at the wider implication of nigeria not just the north,,ss,se,sw lets take others into consideration |

Onlytruth: ^ Note that in that elections, all he needs is simple majority plus 25% in 2/3rds of the states in Nigeria. Igbo support can help him meet that 25% in most states in Nigeria. i doubt that what is the population of us igbos in each state? now, how many igbos will see it from your point of view know full well how individualistic we are i remember the eze ndigbo of lagos pledging his support for ACN onlytruth, some igbos in lagos are now fully intergartes to this yoruba system of politics and will not follow us in the east but yes some will still, but most igbos outside the east in nigeria will follow the way of that state |

Katsumoto: You are suggesting that, for instance, 4 senators represent Isoko (200,000) and 4 senators represent Hausa (15,000,000). No one will agree to that. The major ethnic groups will never accept that idea. Every Ethnic Group should be represented but it should be on the basis of population. good one |
Politics › Re: Ijaw Youths Threaten Nigerians - Vote For Jonathan Or Face War ! ! ! ! ! ! ! by aljharem11(m): 12:28am On Jan 04, 2011 |
Beaf: It should be fairly easy to stop such cheating. We already know all the ethnic groups in Nigeria and no artificial "new" ones will be allowed to form. In fact, everyone would laugh if Ekiti people suddenly declared they were no longer Yoruba! As Obiagu suggested, we could also write all the ethnic groups into the constitution and seal it. no i strongly disagree why should a constitution take into account 250 ethnic groupsdo you not think that the country would be disorganised every small village group will also what to be in the grand scheme of things whereas there population is just 10000 why can this small groups adopt there nearest neighbours culture so there can be peace do you think that if 250 ethnic group have a say in the nation, there will be further riots as they will try to keep their identity so they can have a say in the national issue now, take a look at the SE and SS,,,, each small group is denying there igbo identity,,,why ika,,ikwerri etc are all groups under the igbo ethnic group just like the yorubas have ijebu, awori etc but yet the yorubas are united,,, this is the reason i do not support that idea because roups will even be holding stronger to their identity thus promoting further division in the country desperately trying to unite |

eku_bear: To some extent, this is why I'm glad that Yorubaland doesn't need oil to survive, or have that much oil. We will hopefully never be viewed as food for predators like the US, EU and China (though secretly I hope in 50 or 100 years time that we too can become predators rather than prey.)
Otoh, most likely scenario for a ND Republic is for them to be a steak being fought over by several large dogs (the US, EU, and China.)
Doesn't appear as if it is possible to escape bondage if you have so much oil. Someone large and powerful will seek to steal it from you and/or enslave you.
Even if the ND successfully escapes the bondage of Nigeria, they will not be able to escape those aforementioned large dogs.
Imo, your best bet is to push hard for GEJ to win. And if GEJ fails to win, cry marginalization and extract something massive, like 50% oil derivations and a SNC that devolves power to the states (I actually support both of these measures myself and think they are good for the longterm stability of Nigeria.)
Destabilizing the Nigerian state means eventually you'll have to confront the US one way or another. And I don't know too many nations/peoples who have done this successfully. dapo,,, i like that although we are on our way there starting with african countries but the UN is still trying to limit Nigeria's potential even our so called leaders do not see what the populace see in terms of the potential nigeria has well nigeria has started with Ghana, cameroun, gambia, and most west african countries only that the west (including south africa) are just trying there best to limit this countries potential with the aid of OUR OWN government why i do not know |
Politics › Re: Ijaw Youths Threaten Nigerians - Vote For Jonathan Or Face War ! ! ! ! ! ! ! by aljharem11(m): 4:29pm On Jan 03, 2011 |
Rousseau: Even though I agree with you that years of neglect of Ijawland has driven many Ijaws to desperation, there are other routes to travel than the route the Ijaw youth are traveling. Ijawland has been systematically neglected even before the Nigerian state received its independence. The Ijaw were sidelined by the colonial government, when there region was incorporated into the British empire, because they sided with the Portuguese over the British. The British decided to favor the Itsekiri over the Ijaw, which I feel was the beginning of the neglect of Ijawland. During the regional government phase, minority rights were stifled as the Hausa-Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba fought amongst themselves for dominance forgetting about minority groups such as the Ijaw and other groups that make up the Niger Delta. And lets us not forget the acts that were created after the war to take the oil from Ijawland to increase the revenue of the national coffers. I understand the history of neglect that the Ijaws must be feeling, and that is why I can empathize with them.
However, I would not go as far to say that Nigeria would be like the Republic of Niger without the Niger Delta oil. The land I feel that is blessed with many natural resources is the North. The soil if managed properly is blessed with many nutrients that can feed not only Nigeria as a whole, but West Africa in general. The South-West of Nigeria is blessed with many natural resources as well. Most people do not know, but the South-West has the largest natural gas reserves in all of Africa. And the region also has a lot of gold. In addition, the South-East is also blessed with natural resources as well such as larges reserves of barite and coal. All of these regions are blessed with many natural resources, but they have neglected many industries on the reliance of oil. The South-West should revive its cocoa sector, the South-East should revive its Oil palm sector and the North should revive its groundnut and cotton sector. Every region in Nigeria can be wealthy, without relying on oil.
And it is a stretch to say Lagos was built off of Niger Delta oil. Lagos was built off the backs of cocoa farmers from Ekiti state. The good people of Ekiti have every right to claim that if it wasn't for their cocoa, Lagos would not be like it is, since it was their crops that started the foundations for Lagos. However, I do agree that Abuja was built off of Niger Delta oil. That is why this country needs to practice true federalism. But, federalism will not solve the problem of corruption amongst the political elite. This cuts across all regions, tribal affiliation and religions. You will still have a corrupt few who do not have the people's best interest at heart. words |
