I can guess a reply to this: God's thought are not our thoughts, his ways are not our ways, we cannot presume to even understand them. Of course, this is after ppl have spent many posts telling me exactly what God thinks and how he does things. |
panthress:On the 6th day of what? Some people claim it was six 24 hour days, others claim a few hundred million years. . . If you will claim a few hundred million years or some other number to MATCH what scientists predict about evolution, that is tantamount to suggesting evolution is correct. . and God just happened to be "watching" over it or guiding it. Essentially, they are attempting to coopt evolution and use it as a tool of God. For those who claim six 24 hour days . . . if God is so awesome and powerful, why did it take more than and infinitesimally small amount of time for him to do it. If I had all power in my hands and I'm perfect, why would I spend time to do anything? Its not like I'm going to make a mistake. |
panthress: panthress:Well, archaeologists have found bones of australopithecines, "Lucy" being one of the most well known examples, Cro-Magnons, and other prehistoric humans - that is what some of the "monkeys" have been called. Beyond homo erectus, we have not found that much fossil evidence - it is really far into the past. . . and the chances of us finding this evidence is very slim. However, where is your proof of Noah's ark? You cannot even show me a piece of it, I can direct you to where you can view the remains of "Lucy". |
panthress:he said that the "monkeys" we evolved from ARE dead - all currently living monkeys evolved from those "monkeys" as well. |
AbbeyMarie:i cannot understand why a person would think something is evil and yet contribute to it. luridguy:Parenting is supposed to correct things like that. Otherwise, the kids will grow up to be adults that still think they can fly like superman (assuming they haven't already tried it and found out for themselves that they cannot) |
I don't think that is true. Sure, in movies that seems to be the case, but I think in real life, the vast majority of wives get along with their mothers-in-law. |
chrisd:by being the authority on measurement. . . is this a reference to being a physicist? |
nferyn:And where do you fit into this? What field are you in? B.t.w. - i didn't know that you (chrisd) were a physicist nferyn - if you use b.t.w. without the separators (in this case, dots), it gets expanded into "between" |
I don't see why a guy can't set as a criterion for the woman he marries that she gets along with his mom. |
chrisd:accuracy is by definition error free - or with minimal error precision - a series of measurements that are very close but off by some baseline amount. So, I guess we should expect the bible to be precise, not accurate. . . but its not even that |
nferyn:lol you know what i meant. . . |
the bible has been modified to fit the agenda's of the various churches. knowing this, one must take it with grains of salt - its been a couple thousand years since anyone could possibly claim the bible is error free with a straight face. - actually, it could be more than a couple thousand. . . |
nferyn:i doubt you will get an answer to this. . .i ask it all the time. |
nferyn:Whoa, nferyn. . .I never would've guessed. .. |
so though you believe all "magic" is evil and are powers granted from the devil and children should be "protected" You are going to perpetuate this by writing your own fanfics. You walk a strange line. . |
donnie:this requires an incorrect assumption that people who don't believe in God have some "emptiness" in their lives |
i did, and nobody has actually posted anything about th topic which is: The NBC ban of unverified TV miracles in Nigeria |
i thought it was a ban on unverified miracles. Someone either let me know if I'm wrong or let me know why I should believe a potentially false miracle? |
what does a parent being gay have to do with their children's sexuality? I doubt that it is anybody's worst nightmare, unless they are some really ignorant or hypocritical. |
ocho:Umm. . . Nobody is disputing that. |
what is eww or gross about this? Nobody mentioed how old the woman is. . .she could be 80 to the man's 100. I suppose you'all find it gross when two people over 80 get married? Seriously, what is wrong with this situation? A man marries a woman. . happens everyday. The woman is a widow. . happnes a lot. The woman's husband was his son. . . rare. . but I can't see anything wrong with this either. I can't even think of any culture that finds this wrong. |
maybe lawyers and medical professionals are already crazy I don't see how marrying another electrical engineer could possibly drive me crazy. I sometimes waste hours talking about some project or concept or idea with one of my best friends - same major, field, almost identical interests. . . I can't see how it would ever get to be too much. I have family members who are married, same profession, and worked in the same organization. Since one was the founder, clearly the other worked underneath. I doubt they much problems with that arrangement. I don't see how being in the same profession would affect time spent with children or housekeeping any more than being in different demanding jobs. Unless people are suggesting that one person be a lawyer and the other be a math tutor. . . there is going to be job combinations that would keep both partners away from the home at critical moments. All the issues that were brought up should can be resolved by open minded clear thinking loving partners. If they are having major problems, the only issue I could see cropping up from working in the same place is that they take their arguments to work and it results in one or both of them getting fired. |
if i were a lot more fiscally responsible, I would demand my spouse's paycheck. I don't see anything wrong with that. Its certainly been done for years by both men and women. Sometimes the one who surrenders the paycheck has to go and ask for money when they want something - that is the sacrifice when you have someone else manage your finances. |
i doubt women are chained in their homes unable to go do things nowdays. If you see someone at home, that is probably where she wants to be. |
AbbeyMarie:No, there isn't similar proof for the non existence of God. As a result, anyone who requires proof one way or the other can believe whatever they want. Its like whether or not you believe in the existence of aliens on some other planet we have not yet discovered. There is no evidence either way, however, people still think aliens exist or some people think they dont (even though there is no evidence that would say so). Now, why do we have morals. . . - well, your question assumes that we have morals because we want to be "good" in this life to avoid "punishment" in another. While that may be a factor depending on your religion, there is another reason. Basically, you want to be good because. . .its the right thing to do. For the survival of the human race, it behooves all of us to be nice decent people. If we all rampage around killing, we'd all soon be wiped out. Many people spend their lives working to improve conditions for future generations. Doesn't that suggest a motivation for being "good" that does not require the threat of some after death punishment or reward. There are lots of reasons in this life to be "good". There typically is only 1 reason for those who believe in an afterlife, heaven vs hell. |
