well, in your previous post, you mentioned a scale difference between my example and the actual situation. Now, I think i mean our (my wife and I) not my money. |
it seems stupid to me. but to each his/her own |
eeeh. . .what exactly is wrong with a blood convenant? When you give a promise ring, or get engaged, how binding is it? How binding is a marriage covenant? What is so special about blood? |
cancel the wedding, find another man. If he's lied or hidden something like this, what else is in the closet? |
how old are you? if you are 21+ . .. why are you still mooching off your parents? move out and live on your own. |
seriously people, if americans started telling you that you shouldn't go out at night because the boogyman will kill you. . would you believe them? No. You'd say the american has been watching too many movies. I think Nigerians tend to see movies as an accurate portrayl of real life. |
I've never said the husband should beat his wife. I may just be dumb . . but if your husband or wife does something wrong - you would just say nothing? Correcting someone when they do something wrong is called disciplining them even if they are adults. I still don't see what is barbaric about a husband disciplining his wife or vice versa. If my gf wastes all our money on some ridiculous thing, you can be sure after i'm done it will NEVER happen again. All this can be done w/o any hitting of anyone. I can understand that you may say there is a scale difference between allowing two people with genetic defects to have a child and directly putting a child in danger. In this case, the chances of a child contracting AIDS from an HIV infected mom is about the same as the chance of a child being born with genetic defects from two parents who have it. So, there is no scale difference in this case. But then again, our argument has been the more general case of (say the mom has AIDS as opposed to just HIV) so i will address that. This approaches the gray area of government control. On one hand, the government has some responsibility to protect its people - on the other hand. . .the goverment is very big and influential compared to the average person. It is my worry that in giving government more power over decisions like this, we invite more problems in the long run. I personally feel that the person's family should be enough to resolve this problem. I don't think government aid is needed past the point of some other family member getting custody of the child through court to keep the mother from continuing in her quest to breastfeed the child. Further, if the mother believes the child should be breastfed, there are alternatives to her being the one doing it. So, I see this as a problem that could be (and should be) fixed in a small community unit that requires minimal intervention by government. |
Hmm, and I suppose if i said it is the duty of the husband to discipline the wife when she goes and spends all their money on $2M shoes, I'm being backward and barbaric - that is just plain not right. Should the government keep people who have dominant genes for sickle cell anemia or some other inherited disease from marring? I mean, if government must protect children from potential infections from their parents, why not go as far as making it illegal for a couple where both have family history of some disease to marry? Hmm . . . not so sure about that are you? So, just like you would leave the decision of two people who could produce a child that inherits some horrible disease or mental defect to them, so should the decision on whether or not to breast feed. This is a decision that the two must make. And if the mother is idiot enough to want to breast feed her child, then I feel it is the husbands RESPONSIBILITY to make sure such foolishness does not occur. I don't think there is anything backwards about what I just said. NO slip of tongues or fingers here. |
the auto reflex when you are too close is to refocus your eyes, not close them. The only reflex which forces you to close your eyes are when there is a very bright light source - which isn't involved here unless you are kissing God, or something is about to enter your eye. . .which usually isn't happening. . unless your SO has piercings all over the place. in my experience - i prefer to keep my eyes open. . i have to make a conscious effort to close them if the situation calls for it. |
I believe that God and Satan exists - that does not mean I believe there is power in people who claim to practice witchcraft. Human beings are not God or Satan or angels or devils. Humans are not supernatural beings. We were not endowed with supernatural powers. So, I still don't see how a belief in God and or knowing Satan exists (it doesn't seem right to say a belief in Satan) will mean I should believe that there is true power in witchcraft. I know people love to cite the business of the witch of Endor from the bible as biblical proof of witchcraft - well, if by witchcraft, you mean someone who the devil talks to. . . then I suppose I can believe that there are people here (on this planet. .not nairaland) who may have some sort of communication with the devil. The bible does not go any further in describing what the witch could do, and the word witch has probably been changing ever since the Old Testament was written. So, I don't see this as definite proof of witchcraft - which I'm assuming we have defined as the use of supernatural powers for non unGodly purposes. |
i must say i don't believe in witchcraft - or rather, I don't believe there is any power in witchcraft or i don't believe practitioners have any supernatural powers. Someone mentioned earlier - when talking about bringing in proof of witchcraft - they sarcastically said - bring in a picture of the air we breathe. Now. . .I'm sure you know that we have scanning electron microscopes - if you really want a picture of air. . i'm sure i can find it for you. . . |
strictly, kissing is not fornication - you can kiss your husband/wife - that is not fornication. if you mean kissing when you are unmarried - then you should say so. romancing - umm what do you mean by this? The bible talks about courting the woman you'll marry - so that is not fornication. Again - need a better definition of the terms you are talking about before anyone can answer this question. . we don't read minds. |
So, conclusion after reading these posts: 1) There is currently no biblical support or condemnation for arbortion - those who quote thou shall not kill suddenly become silent when they are quoted passages where God specifically instructs the Israelites to kill. 2) The big question therefore is when does life - or sentinence - begin? This is a super hard question to answer. Since none of us are God - we will never know. Someone quoted some scripture which indicates God forming ppl in the womb and knowing them in the womb - this still does not indicate when life begins - 1st week? 1st day? 4th month? Adam was formed by God too, but did not have life until God "breathed" it into him. |
should we have the power to force someone not to breast feed their child? That should be her husbands job right? Not the government? That opens the door for other things like government control on how you discipline your child, etc. While we may all say it is not right for her to breast feed the child since she has aids, this is a problem that her family should be handling . . how did it become such a huge problem? |
yes. . though my username to sign on is still _____. BTW, could you edit your post not to say ""? I'll have to remove this as well. . |
the chicken and egg are in bed together and the chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied look on his face. Then the egg says - I guess we now know who came first. |
i would agree that you should keep secrets. . .but i'm thinking that those who feel secrets should be kept are the one's who'd have boyfriends or girlfriends who feel the opposite way. . . you can never win! |
i would guess people (girls especially) close their eyes because that what "romantic" moments are in many books and movies, especially those geared towards women. I personally keep my eyes open unless asked to close them. |
hmm, we must be cousins |
