Knowing how to Cook is relative. I have eaten meals which I felt were nasty and another person at the same table ate the same meal with relish. I know of a friend whose husband complained of her cooking and kept comparing it to his mothers. Eventually she made an effort to find out what mamas magic was and it turned out to be what some of us call rotten tomatoes. While she (the wife) was brought up to make stew with fresh tomatoes ,hubby was brought up eating stew made from slightly mangy tomatoes. Anyway problem has been solved now. She cooks two pots of stew in her house one for hubby and one for herself and the kids. So it goes to prove that one mans good soup is another mans poison. So that same woman whom you say can't cook may have her culinary skills appreciated elsewhere. |
Music has evolved over the years and every generation tends to stick to the style they are most comfortable with. When Don Moen and co first began to sing, many ofthe older generation of that time felt the music was not really Christian (Ask your parentsif they are 50 and above), their idea of Christian music then was conventional hymns (which many of us now consider boring). It was younger generation that began to appreciate that music. In the 1600's the type of music that was considered Christian then was what we now called classical music such as Handels Messiah and stuff like that. I dont think the Jews and early Christians in Samaria and Corinth sang any hymns as we know them. So be rest assured that music will always evolve and each generation will cling to what is familiar. As the Bible says in Eclesiatics there is a time for everything - Now is the time for Hip Hop gospel. |
Naijaking I appologise for having the effontry to give you unsolicited advice. I promise it will never happen again. After all you have soo many post 2000 and I have only seven (Sorry make that 8 now) . It was my mistake to assume that as collegues we could post civily to one another. Once again my most sincere appology. ![]() Dr Kathy I never said the comment was not rude all I asked for was a little empathy. |
Hi Docs, I noticed Naijakings response to Sparta on the issue of medical jsrgon. We doctors ( am one of you- a surgeon also) have spent so long speaking our own special language that we often dont realise that the rest of the world dont understand us. I keep trying to teach my residents to speak plain English to payients cos I realized that many pts leave the consulting room confused. Even a simple prescription that we all understand looks like gibberish to the average man on the road. Dont be too hard on him, just remember next time you reply a pt or speak to one that what we speak is actually a whole new language that took us at least 6 years to learn. |
If you are in Nija dont just see any Doctor, make sure you see an ENT specialist. If an expert sees you it will take less than 10 seconds to get it out . Some doctors dont know their limits and will end up damaging your ears for what is actually a simple problem. The truth is nothing will happen if it stays for a few days, it cant get into your brain or anything. But a poorly trained Doc can rupture your eardrum for life. Ive seen enough to last me a life time. Trust me!! |
The decision on what name to answer is a very personal one between the couple. Some ladies already are established professionally when they get married and may not always be able to brandish the wedding certificate to explain the discrepancies, others just like it that way. So if they and their husbands don't mind I don't see what other peoples business is in the matter. We all Knew that Benazier Bhutto and Indira Ghandi of Blessed memory were married women even though they answered their maiden names. |
I understand her point of view. Everyman should be a king in his own castle. If I made dinner for my husband and a guest arrived unexpectedly he or she will wait, if not go home. I cant imagine my husbang comming home to HIS own house for dinner and meeting my friends at table . Who then invites who to the table. If i have a guest like my mum- in- law her meals are usually prepared seperately, her own dinner will be served by 6 or 7 and my help can do that. I actually am known for not going into the kitchen unless i am cooking for my husband. I dont have kids yet but when I do they will become top priority like my guy is now. Fortunately I am blessed with a great guy who is appreciative. |
I need a spare key for my 2000 Nissan Altima, can you help? |
I am a Dr myself and I am very disgusted at the God complex. But I have to say Nigerians are a particularly docile kind of people, afraid to ask questions about their health they take drugs without insisting on knowing what they are on and when things do go wrong they never complain. Instead they leave it to God, leaving the Doc to make the same or even worse mistakes the next time. Please even if I am the Doc involved; if you believe there is malpractice write to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. I cannot remenber the address off head but it is at the beginning of broad street, somewhere to the right of akpongbon bridge if you are comming from the main land.If you are uncomfortable with the Doctors attitude ask for a second opinion or leave. Any doctor afraid of a second opinion has something to hide. The Drs abroad sometimes do better not because of who they are but because they are afraid to be reported or have a malpractice suit slapped on them. |
I am in the medical feild and work with the deaf often. How come in over 10 years I have not had a single patient who was cured miraculously? And mind yoy I have worked in some of the biggest teaching hospitals. None of my collegues has a documented case either. |
