Rust2000, thankyou. keep trying where there is life there is hope. Along the way I met a lady that did 8 IVF and even had surgery for a brain tumour in the middle of it all. her son is just soo beautiful. Blowing baby dust ure way |
Pslm23,sorry to hear what you are going through. I will keep you in my prayers, my last IVF ended in a miscarriage and I was devastated especially since I knew what caused it( a mix up with my drugs). I really didn't want to try again but I am glad I did. Hang in there, blowing angel dust your way. |
Hi just found this thread recently. I just got a BFP last Thursday, after 10 years of trying, countless IUI,s,one myomectomy, and 4 cycles of Ivf. I can barely believe it because apart from a foul metallic taste in my mouth, I feel so normal. Today however I noticed my feet looked swollen, I think it's much to early for that then I remember all the drugs I was and am on. And I did everything here in Nigeria. |
She already served as first lady of Anambra state 1984 - 1985 first lady of Imo state 1985 - 1986 President, Naval officers wives association 1993 - 1994 That should be more than enough for national service abi she collected pay for that? How funny considering that she got married to him in 1999 ![]() |
Is it 50 traders or 50 traders per local gov council? Because if it is 50 traders that is 1 million not 13 million as the headlines suggest! |
By the way how much do Nigerian private schools pay teachers, graduates?? Or for that matter what salary do you expect to get as a fresh graduate in the civil service or in an idigenous private firm?? Or young lawyers in a private Nigerian law firm. If the answer to this is more than what the Indians are offering then you have every right to complain. |
I went to an India last year and there the staff work 10 hours a day for 6 days a week wether day or night. These guys are not treating us like slaves, that is how they work in their own country. The problem is that the Nigerian system is upside down such that we have graduates working in call centres or as tellers in banks. These jobs in other countries are handled by high school graduates that is school cert holders. But here the average person with school cert cannot aspire to such lofty positions In Nigeria we have engineering graduates struggling for the job that abroad technicians do and then complaining when they are offered the salary of a technician. We have to get our act together and stop expecting others to come and give us hand outs. If Nigerians had handled NITEL well or even ECONET would there have been any space for the Indians to come in. |
Bloody hipocrite, playing to the gallery as usual. Let him first explain how recent PDP decampees in Edo state won the A C N primaries and why he refused the release of the results. He isn't behaving any better than those he condemns. |
Cars were distributed but to whomm Last year in Lauth with over 300 docs 2 cars were actually given to doctors. The rest went to heads of department like catering, nursing, laundry etc. But on the news what was announced was cars being given to doctors. This year one of the most senior surgeons in Lagos state got a grand gift of a Hyundai Elantra, meanwhile magistrates get 2011 toyota corollas while High court judges get Prado jeeps and take home over 2.5m a month same Lagos. As for free houses it is during this strike that government is calling some doctors that were kicked out of gov housing about 2 years ago and offering them flats in 1004. Doctors are not demanding cars or free houses, what we are demanding is a fair wage for the workload we bear in lagos state. |
The Lagos state government claims it will need an extra 2.5Billion a month to pay doctors CONMESS (Check http://www.lagosstateministryofhealth.com/news_article.php?article_id=145) they also admit there are about 1500 doctors in Lagos state employment. The actual figures as of December were actually less than 1200, but let us use their figures. 2500000000 divided by 1500 by my calculater is 1,666,666 that is 1.7 million average extra per doctor. Now lets do another calculation, Governemnet says they are ready to increase consultants salaries by 400K. So lets asume all doctors in Lagos state employment are consultants that is 400,000 multiplied by 1500 . What my calculator gets is 600,000,000. the difference between 600K and 2.5billion is And this figuer is an exageration because less than 10 % of doctors are consultants and even for the consultants most will not get a salary increament that large. When the commisioner is ready to lie like this in the name of propaganda what other lies do you think he is telling the public. |
reindeer, Nice to see you defending our profession once more. But I actually agree with Eko Ile, if we don't like the job quit. I hate seeing us grovel and beg as if we are casual labourers with no skills. I have said it over ands over again that the only way forward in medicine is private practice. All the hospitals we run to in India and South Africa are private. In the UK and America the best hospitals are private institutions. Where you see Nigerians go as a patient to a government institution abroad it is because they cannot afford to go private. To all those that say the poor will suffer if most doctors go private I say pele, sorry whatever. Are they not suffering worse now. There are doctors and nurses are in gov hospitals now but the services they get are not up to what the average dog gets from his vet in the UK. What government should do is properly regulate the system such that there are basic minimum standards. And by the way I am a consultant with over 20 years post MBBs and on conmess my salary pretaxation will not be more than 550K that is b4 Fasholas deductions. I was not given a car, I was never offered accomodation by the government. The only Doctors that may earn up to 800k on CONMESS will be those on GL17 equivalent to Director Generals of minitries. |
I agree with all those that say sack the docs especially since we won't resign ( I happen to be one). Maybe once we are jobless we will sit back and think of how to make progress in medicine. The truth is most of us don't like the job but our orientation is that of a civil servant. We feel it is better to receive a monthly salary than face the world. So maybe we need a good kick in the behind. Is it not after Idiagbon dealt with Drs that many left and either bettered their lives in Saudi or the US or the Uk or even started their own private clinics such as Lagoon hospital or Eye foundation or St Nicholas which today are doing the kind of surgeries and procedures no government hospital can dream off. The hospitals our people rush to in India or South Africa are they government hospitals. For medicine to grow we need to get out of this civil service mentality. Where we all wait for gov to spoonfeed us and maybe if they sack us this may be the push. |
I work in the medical feild and I have personal expirience of two of my patients who stopped their medication and refused further treatment and died after attending CEC Healing shcool. On the other hand I have no personal expirience of any patient that has been cured after attending CEC Healing school. Similarly a friends father had a chronic cough and instead of taking him to hospital he was taken to Redemmed Camp and was 'healed' of his cough. When I then suggested they bringing him to the hospital for a check up I was accused of having no faith and being a fake Christian. Next time I heard of him he had been rushed to hospital with severe breathing difficulties and died within 48 hours. It turned out he had TB a disease that is easily curable these days and this man who had enogh money to train all his children abroad and had property all over the place died like a chicken. I believe God does miracles but not the way they are being touted in Nigeria. People are still being healed at Lourdes in France but the Catholic church investigates every healing and scrutinizes it scientifically before it is declared as such, so as not to bring the name of God to disrepute and shame. |
Whether in politicsor proffesionally or even at club level I can never cast a vote for any person who has no visible agenda simply because she is of the same gender as I am. I have been hearing of Sarah Jibril contesting for high office for decades but I have no idea of her political ideoloy save for the fact that she is a woman and she is always a member of APP- Any Party in Power. I have no idea of her personal or proffesional antecedents save for the fact that she has contested for office several times. She doe s not seem to be politically savy or even care to understand the waters in which she is swimming. She actually does not come accross as a politician but rather as a woman with too much money playing politics. Her response is even more annoying and childish and goes to show why she got only one vote. |
Naija people will now quote Colossians 2:20 or 1 Corinthians 2:14. But the same peple will be quick to quote Deuteronomy 22:5 when they want to talk about women wearing trousers or guys wearing earings or Malachi when they want to talk about tithes. People pick what they want from the bible depending on how it affects their lifestyles. How many know that in Biblical times males wore earings (Check Exodus 32:2) or that some men braided their hair(Judges 16:13 -Samson who was dedicated to God had 7 braids). Till today Jewish Rabbis who are direct descendants of Israelite still plait there hair. I have never heard a Naija pastor or Christian quote Deuteronomy 10:9 or Numbers 18 where God said the Levites or Priests were to have no inheritance. They did not own any property but lived off tithes and offerings. or that in Deuteronomy it was staed that people should eat their tith at the tabarnacle. We hold onto whatever it is that suites us and discard the rest when it inconviniences us ![]() |
OP sorry about what ever happened to you, but I hope you learn to let go of the hurt if not you are letting him have control over you even from the grave. To those insulting her let her be, she who wears the shoe knows where it pinches and Nl is maybe the only place she can lay are her soul being anonymous. I had and still have a great relationship with my father but many people did and do not. Do you ask the 14 year old girl whose father slept with her from age 10 and got her pregnant to respect or thank her father for bringing her to this world. Or the girl in Akwa Ibom whose father poured acid on her when he failed to get her to drink it to love that monster. Or is it those whose parents sold them knowingly into prostitution or slavery (here n Nija) cos they have too many children and cant feed them that should kneel down and thank them for giving them life. You may be lucky to have parents who loved you and catered for you but there are many out there that never saw love of care from their parents. |
6000 data capture machines, stolen just like that . That means the theif came in with a trailer to carry them cos these things in their individual boxes and packaging are not small things. 6000 would fill a small wharehouse. I believe someone is not being truthfull somewhere. But fortunately for them in Nigeria our press dont do any investigative journalism and the public swallows any story hook, line and sinker. If it were any sensible nation by now heads would have rolled and explanations would have been given as to how a trailer loads of stuff just got up and walked out of the Ports. who knows maybe they were never actually imported in the first place. ![]() |
There are so many people who live to be 90 and die without anybody mourning them. That this young man was only 21 at the time of his death and has so many people mourning, crying and remembering him with fondness, speaks volumes about the kind of person he was. May his soul rest in peace. |
According to open heavens 2010. If you sow into the life of a believer you will receive 30 fold, less if its into the life of an unbeliever. If you sow into the life of a pastor you receive 60 fold, while if you sow into the life of an overall head like a GO you will receive 100 fold. March 3rd, March 10th and march 17th. Spiritual accounting. ![]() |
The University pays the Lecturer or Prof in medicine the same as it pays the lecturer or Prof in Biology or engineering. But the lecturer or prof in medicine also has some allowances from the teaching hopital, not a full salary, These are Call duty, hazard ,teaching allowance and specialist allocation. Thses are also the same allowances recieved by the full hospital consultant. The difference now is in the basic salary. The entry point for a consultant is lecturerI (GL13) while that of a consultant in the teaching hospita is GL15. Thats why the lecturer takes home less doing for two jobs. (The teaching allowance here is not for teaching students, but for teaching, residents, nurses and whichever other medical personnel that may come your way eg students from school of health technology). The resident recievs a teaching allowance with his salary. He is not paid to teach medical students by the university. It is just the tradition that in some centres they are encouraged to teach cos it is seen as part of their training to be consultants and also it has been found that the more you teach, the better you become. I delibrately never sought to know the salrys of those in the Federal system cos I didnt wantto do myself longa throat. All I know is that the salary I recieved as a snr registrar was more than my first salary as a lecturer/ hon consultant. What i have with me is the new conmess document. |
The academic doctor receives his or her salary as a lecturer from the university and honorarium from the hospital . A Hospital Consultant starts on grade level 15 now Conmess 5, while a consultant who chooses to go academic is employed at Lecturer I level which is GL 13 and is appointed honorary Consultant to the teaching hopsital who then pays the medical allowances. such as call duty allowance. So in a teaching hospital like LUTH, UCH or LASUTH if two consultants are employed the same day, the one who is also a lecturer earns slightly less for the two jobs than the one who is only a Consultant. However most doctors in the teaching hospital have their reasons for being there which makes the money issue not so relevant. One is being in an academic environment where you constantly sharpen your skills and the fact that most teaching hospitals are slightly better equiped than general hospitals. Then some of us actually enjoy teaching. The state teaching hospitals will also face another problem if the University Lecturers salaries are not improved because that means that the basic salary of the Lecturer / Honorary Consultant and therefor the overall salary of the lecturer will be much less than his counterparts in both Federal institutions on CONMESS and also other consultants within the state civil service. People would then rather migrate to even general hospitals which are never as busy as teaching hospitals or go to Federal institutions. |
Thank you, Im kind of technologically challenged. |
Sagamite: |
Sagamite:N801K is the amount the highest level of doctors in Nigeria is to be paid under CONMESS ( about5% of consultants and therefore about1% of doctors are at grade level 17 or Conmess 7 -step 9), N444K is what the average onsultant will take home (that is Grade level 15 or Conmess 5-step 9 ) Consultants are also less than 10% of all doctors in the system. |
The figure of N801,000 I quoted is the new salary scale doctors are fighting for for not what they are receiving now, While that of the Judiciary is what they are earning now. The average consultant in the Lagos state system is on GL 15 that is CONMESS 5. The qualification required is MBBS plus at least 5- 7 years of postgraduate study . Average age being 45years. So these are people who are at the apex of the profession. Presently they earn about N280,000/month and what is being requested is N444,311.583 or N5,3million per annum. In the 80's under Idiagbon and Buhari, there was a crises where doctors were asking for improved conditions of service and funding of teaching hospitals and at the end of the day, government crushed the strike and sacked so many doctors. Thus began the mass exodus of doctors to Saudi, Oman, UK and America from which the system has never recovered. Idiagbon God rest his soul) was later to be a victim of another strike for the same reasons. He fell ill and was rushed to Ilorin teaching hospital and doctors were on strike and he died. Lagos State will win the battle, after all doctors have gone back to work but in the long run are going to loose the war. They will slowly but surely loose good hands and will have to do more to attract new ones. |
Government cannot afford foreign professionals, QED. To come and work where and live where. Is it an American surgeon you will ask to work in LUTH and take home $2000 a month and live in Surulere, live on generators and pump water from the bore hole while coming to work in a 2004 model Toyota Camry. If Government wants to bring in a surgeon from Europe or America first he will be accommodated in VI or Ikoyi (Serviced apartment). A good car with a driver (at least Prado jeep). His office must have electricity and Ac's running round the clock. His children will only go to schools like British International School (BIS). All this before we talk of salary. If government is serious, make life less brutish for the average Nigerian professional and see productivity grow. |
true, brain drain is a huge problem in Nigeria. i think the govt should seriously look into bringing in foreign workers same way western countries are doing.

Foreign workers are not charity workers, why would a South African, or Egyptian or even Ghanaian doctor or nurse want to come to Nigeria? For a lower salary, poorer working conditions ( No accommodation, no electricity, no offices or decent call rooms and worse still no equipment). If any foreign doctors comes what you will need to pay him and keep him in relative comfort, will easily cover what will pay 5 or 6 local doctors. And such a person can only do the job of 1 person not 5. I am using Africans not even European. It is so funny that we always want equivalent service but are not willing to pay equivalent fees. One of the states in the North tried it, they brought in 'doctors' from Egypt paid them 3 times what they were paying Nigerian Consultants at the end of the day one of them confessed that most of them were actually technicians. (Just google, Egyptian doctors,Maiduguri or Nigeria). |
Doctors should not go on strike! Rather they should resign and look for better paid jobs. And before I am crucified by doctors on this thread, I am a doctor myself working for Lagos state and I am already making plans for my own exit. The only reason I am still there is because I have a passion for medical education and am actively involved in the training of students and residents (specialist). Right now I am frustrated and don't think I can last much longer in the system. Unfortunately I am not alone, several other colleagues on my level (Seniors) are planning to get out. One is planning to leave to sell children's books, not even to practice medicine and that lady is one fine gynaecologist, dedicated and hardworking, she doesn't even do any PP. Lagos state will win the battle, but eventually loose the war. At the end of the day the only staff they will be able to keep will be those that cannot get anything better, or those that know how to work the system and do little or no work, while they run their private practices on full swing. At present Lagos state cant even retain houseofficers, even the students who graduate from the Lagos state Medical school would rather sit at home for months doing absolutely nada while waiting for an appointment in LUTH or other federal institutions. So who do you think does their job? Its the same for nurses, pharmacist, technicians, most Lagos state hospitals are manned by an ageing staff because the younger ones just use the facility as a stop gap till they get something better. So as they are recruiting people are leaving. It is not just in Lagos but in most states in the federation but Lagos state is peculiar in that they have a large population seeking these services. To those that think we are asking for too much, a high court judge in Lagos takes home over N2milion, gets a Prado jeep as official car and accommodation with police protection. Under Conmess the highest paid doctor will take home N801,00.(All allowances included) an official car is a privilege not guaranteed and neither is accommodation part of the package. That is someone with a minimum of 17 years in the system. |
See an ENT surgeon, who will recommend xrays and place you on certain drug combinations. What you have is sinusitis and if not handled properly initially can become complicated and very difficult to get rid off. |
I am sure if they did a lie detector test on married Nigerian women, they would find out that 90% would rather not be married to their present husbands and are only in the house because of what society would say. I am fortunately happily married for almost 10 years and I believe its because I married a Nigerian man who schooled abroad and learned to value women. But when I have cause to speak to many married women, whom I meet in the course of my job, so many are deeply unhappy at home but will not leave the man cos of society. I usually advise them to stay and work on their marriages but deep inside me I am sad that for so many women the only joy they have in marriage is their childen. So even when these kids grow up they cant leave them alone cos they have got no lives. |
I just googled the ghanaweb article and was shocked by the degree of hatred emanating from that site. Please my fellow Nigerians we need to look inwards and take control of our destiny before we become refugees all over the world at the mercy of people that hate us. One power we have now is our vote. VOTE in the next election for the best man or woman and not your tribes man or village man. Pick the best. Then you do your personal best wherever you find yourself. We can make this place heaven if we all put our hearts and minds to it. |
I may not be Jens fan but I think she is playing the most strategic game in the house. You dont have to fight and quarrel with anybody just because you dont belong to the same camp. Afterall the aim of the game is to get to the finals and then possibly win, and one way to do this is make sure you are not nominated. If not for that vindictive cow Paloma, she would have been ok. But Paloma wants to call the shots herself, she can play with Uti, give him back rubs,do his hair, match make him and Sheila,Jump Mwisho and call him for private conversations, but her minnions should just stick to her. Big Up Jen If I were voting this week I would vote for JEn afterall Mozambique has been a good ally and now is when we need all support. Dont be emotional and cut your nose to spite your face. |
