Call Aki & Paw To Order Now, Parents Cry Out To order Author: Date: May 26th, 2010. Concerned parents in Nigeria have called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Association of Movie Producers, AMP and other stakeholders in the film industry to call popular pint-sized actors, Chinedu ‘Aki’ Ikedieze and Osita ‘Pawpaw’ Iheme to order. The actors, who joined the movie industry almost at the same time, are giving parents concern over the roles they play in movies. Their argument is that the actors should play a consistent role in movies; they either take the role of kids or that of adults. The parents said that since they [Akin & Pawpaw] started as kids in their first movie, a lot of kids at home see them as peers and as a result imitate most of the things they do in movies. But now that the actors take romantic roles and other adult roles that children shouldn’t emulate, the parents want the authorities concerned to call them to order before the situation gets out of hand. “This attitude of theirs is becoming a threat to us because children don’t want to believe that they are adults. The advertisement they also did with sweet meant for children has also made the children believe absolutely that the two actors are children like them and they are ready to do anything they see them do. “ This has become a great concern that it is becoming a topic of discussion among parents, especially in the buses and market places,” one of the parents said. According to Mrs. Okafor, she was stunned when one of her sons, after watching one of Aki & Pawpaw’s films, told her that “mummy I want to kiss you the way Aki and Pawpaw kissed that girl in that film.” Another parent, Mrs. Kunle also said that her sons now do everything to imitate Aki & Pawpaw; her sons now dance like them, imitate the way they talk and walk. She, however, said she now keeps a close watch on her children to ensure that they don’t watch movies in which the actors play romantic roles. Children are what they view and have the tendency of practising whatever they watch on television. Though another parent said that the actors are talented to play the roles of kids well, she maintained that for the fact that they came to the industry with the impression that they are children, they should maintain that role in order not to have negative influence on children. Sometime last year, the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria Board of Trustees headed by Prince Ifeanyi Dike made a move to ban the actors from taking adult roles, but they were later pardoned when their fans from home and abroad pleaded with the board. —Zainab Afege http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/05/26/call-aki-paw-to-order-now-parents-cry-outto/ |

Spare parts seller to join American wife soon Monday, August 10, 2009 They met on the internet. They fell in love. A spare parts seller, Kunle Bamidele was completely honest in his dealings with his Kentucky, US-based beau, Robin Martins, and their wedding recently in Ibadan was as topical as it was controversial. Nevertheless, the young man will soon jet out of the country to join his wife. Seye Adeniyi reports. https://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/10/tribune/images/feat.jpg The couple kissing during their wedding. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/10/602.html He was castigating one of his apprentices for wrong-doing when this reporter got to his shop at Ile-Epo area of Odo-Ona, Abeokuta road, Ibadan, Oyo State. He was so annoyed with the young male apprentice that he brought out the Sunday Tribune edition of 12th of July, 2009 to butress his admonitions to the boy, on the need for him to be truthful, dedicated to duty, and, above all, say the truth at all times. “Look at this young man now (pointing at Kunle Bamidele’s picture featured in the Sunday Tribune newspaper of 12th July, 2009), he reaped the reward of being faithful, truthful and sincere, and that was why a white woman, an American for that matter, left her country for Nigeria to marry him, ‘’ he told the apprentice. Many people thought it was not possible, some tagged it an “arrangeé wedding”, while some are still casting doubts on the unique matrimonial union that took place recently in the city of Ibadan between the duo. Alhaji Laide Eniola, a 70 year-old popular fashion designer at Odo-Ona, along Apata road, Ibadan, was privy to all that transpired during the wedding. Robin Martin, a 41-yr-old Kentuckian, had travelled to Nigeria, some weeks ago, to wed Kunle Bamidele, a 32-year-old spare parts trader at the popular Gate Market, Ibadan. According to the tailor, the wedding ceremony actually took place in his house at the Scout-Camp, along Challenge-Molete road, in Ibadan on July 11, 2009, after the registry wedding at the Mapo Registry hall. On why the wedding festivities were not held at the Bamideles’ house, as was customary, he said Kunle’s father chose the Scout Camp venue to give the American some solace as it was modern and more comfortable than his own, adding that since he and the man were childhood friends, he had to oblige him. The 41-year-old American woman from Kentucky, USA, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday, July 8, 2009, and the wedding between her and Kunle took place on Saturday, July 11, 2009. She was accommodated, throughout her stay, at the tailor’s house. But why the quick arrangement that eventually led to a wedding between the duo, considering the short-days intervals? Alhaji Eniola has this to say: “Kunle and the American woman had been chatting with each other on the internet for a long time, before the woman agreed to visit him in Nigeria. What really impressed the Kentuckian was Kunle’s sincerity and truthfulness. The woman had used many things to test Kunle’s truthfulness, sincerity, love and faithfulness and, I tell you, the young man is not like other Nigerian youths who are fond of duping Europeans on the internet.’’ He noted that the flight ticket with which the woman travelled to Nigeria was sent to her by Kunle. The bride-to-be had, through the internet, sent the money (foreign currency) to Kunle, instructing him to help her purchase the flight ticket in Nigeria and send it to her, an assignment which Kunle carried out to the letter. “How many Nigerian youths, especially the so called yahoo boys, can do such a thing? I know what many of these yahoo boys can do, and how they are creating a negative image for the country through their dubious activities on the internet. But Kunle Bamidele, now the legal husband of the Kentuckian, did not do that,” he emphasised. The tailor also revealed to Nigerian Tribune that the white woman, who is a divorcee and a mother of two children in Kentucky, was also impressed with her Nigerian husband’s truthfulness and sincerity when Kunle showed her all the receipts/invoices he had used in purchasing every material she instructed asked him to get, preparatory to their wedding, including the receipt for the new generating set that was purchased before her arrival in Nigeria. Robin Martins also surprised many people, especially the people living around the Scout-Camp area of Ibadan, when she took delight in eating traditional foods like amala, fufu, eba, even ewedu, gbegiri and okro soups, without developing bowel discomfort during her stay in Ibadan. He noted that many people had tried to discourage the woman from coming, and yet many others had told the family that the woman would not tolerate the facilities on ground, but she coped admirably well. Concerning the traditional wedding gown (aso-oke), which the couple used for their wedding, the septuagarian also disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that Kunle was given money to buy the material by his bride, adding that it was he who designed the attire for the couple. ‘’The newly-wedded coupled enjoyed their honeymoon in my house and, I tell you, she was impressed with Kunle’s “performance,” being a black man. She also confessed to me that what she saw and experienced in Nigeria was the entire opposite of all the negative reports she had heard about the country before coming to Nigeria,” the tailor told the Nigerian Tribune. He added that the white woman told him that she was very comfortable in her country, as she presently had two or three companies of her own. But she had to divorce her former American husband because the man used to beat, maltreat, and often subjected her to inhuman treatments despite the fact that she had two children by him. There was a mild drama inside the Mapo Registry hall during the wedding ceremony. The local government officials that conducted the wedding programme were amazed and highly impressed by the woman’s dancing steps. They were pleasantly surprised, especially when the Kentuckian began to lavish dollars on them, when the couple were called to come forward for thanksgiving. Throughout her stay in Nigeria, Robin Martins Bamidele was able to acclamatize to Nigeria’s weather; she did not complain of any ailment or infections. But she kept abusing the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), for throwing the country into darkness. Another drama that also ensued during the woman’s short stay in Nigeria, according to Alhaji Eniola, who hails from Ede, Osun State, was between the woman and the Embassy officials when she took her Nigerian husband there to get all the neccessary papers that would facilitate his smooth journey to Kentucky, USA. The Embassy officials did not want to give Kunle clearance documents for the journey, hinging their excuses on their previous experiences with Nigerians. However, when the new bride shouted at them, Kunle was given all the necessary papers, and will soon be going to America to join his new heart-trob. |

Ogun: Contractor discovers 24 corpses under Ota Bridge 08.09.2009 Sunday, August 9, 2009 A contractor discovered, at least, 24 corpses under the hitherto abandoned Sango-Ota Flyover when it returned to site in June. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/9/209.html Deputy Director of Highways, South-west, in the Federal Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Robert Agwusiobu, disclosed this to newsmen at Sango-Ota, Ogun State, yesterday. Agwusiobu was on the inspection team of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, led by the Speaker, Mr. Dimeji Bankole. “Where we are standing on this ramp was used as a graveyard. Over 24 corpses were removed from this place. In fact, on daily basis, should somebody drop dead in the market, they come and dump the corpses here, so we are not talking of only refuse. “Today is Saturday, any other day, any other weekend, you cannot pass here,” Agwusiobu said. He lamented that the discovery was alarming and added that there was need for security to be beefed up in the area. “That’s what we are soliciting from the Speaker.”. The Federal Ministry of Works official further said: “Now they don’t drop corpses here again. But let’s assume we stop work here, it will revert back to burial ground again.” The Federal Director said work on site would speed up “definitely after the rains and latest January we will get through with this,” he assured. Earlier, the Speaker had allayed the fears that variation in the cost of the road project would delay work on site. His words: “I am happier today. They (people around here and motorists) are also happier. Now is to work towards completion. But I am assuring you that we will keep working to ensure this bridge is completed” He further stated: “ We are happy here because there is improvement there. It is a departure from what we used to see here before. I am more impressed than I was when I came here last. But there are some issues of finance that we need to settle. We will sort it out amicably. With the little we have given, I can assure you that works will not stop. We will improve upon this except that we need to sort out this variation issue”, he stated. |
Plot to Islamize govt: Islamic group’s letter to Federal Character Commission leaks By EMERSON GOBERT JR Saturday, August 8, 2009 At a time when Nigerians are still counting their losses from crisis caused by the Boko Haram group, whose agenda was to make the country an Islamic state, a plot to also Islamize the central government has been uncovered. http://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/8/508.html Saturday Sun can authoritatively reveal that a pro-Islamic group, the Supreme Council for Sahari’an in Nigeria, wants Muslims to occupy the key positions at the federal level, including the armed forces. The group said that this has become necessary in order to reverse what it said was done during the General Olusegun Obasanjo government from 1999-2007. According to a letter to the chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Prof. S. Oba Abdulraheem, a copy of which Saturday Sun got, the Supreme Council for Sahari’an in Nigeria said that the opportunity of having a Muslim as number citizen in the country should be used to entrench Muslims in government. The letter said: “Mr. Chairman, it is important to note that Muslims are not asking for any favour on this matter. Rather, they are demanding their right, justice and equity. In our considered view, now is a God-given opportunity, which may not avail itself again, once it is not seized upon. We should, therefore, promptly seize upon this opportunity and in doing so, adopt a holistic resolution of the ugly and untenable trend in the marginalization of Muslims. “If we fail to do so, then we would unwittingly find ourselves in the helpless position of the Hutu complacent majority in Rwanda, who were overrun and massacred in genocide by the minority Tutsi, who had the foresight to plan the systematic control of the military and other strategic security agencies. And as the saying goes, those who fail to learn from the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it. If we fail to right the monumental wrong today, then we should prepare for a perilous future.” Entitled, “the Imperative of the Constitutional Principle of Federal Character to redress gross marginalization in the Armed Forces, the Police, Security Agencies and other MDAs (Ministries, Departments and Agencies),” the council said that the lopsided recruitments and appointments in the armed forces and police/security agencies in flagrant disregard for constitutional requirement of Federal Character does not augur well for the security and stability of the Nigerian state and transgresses the sense of constitutional propriety, transparency and fairness, all of which are indispensable components of the rule of law. Besides, the group said that it does not give assurance of fairness and fair play in the conduct of national affairs, thereby creating the fear of the probability of a re-enactment of the Rwandan Hutu/Tutsi massacres among a large section of Muslims. This, it said, is particularly so, in view of the countless religious crises that have happened in the last 10 years and series of other ethnic crises in various parts of the country. The petition further stated that it was important to note that the issue of deliberate marginalization is real and one in which the aggrieved party or group is not “Arewa” or any other group defined by ethnic identity or geography, but by its faith. Presenting a brief analysis of the statistical data on appointments and recruitments into the armed forces in the last few years, especially during the Obasanjo era, which it accused of “this elaborate plot,” the council stated that in 2005, the level of discontent on the issue of disproportionate representation in favour of Christians against Muslims reached near boiling point and culminated in an unprecedented effort at the behest of the council, by the leaders of the Muslim community in Nigeria led by the late Sultan, Alhaji Maccido. It said: “For the first time, on realizing the level of marginalization of Muslims by the Obasanjo government generally, especially in the armed forces and police/security agencies, the Muslim leaders summoned up the courage to confront the former President Obasanjo, with a catalogue of complaints, supported by incontrovertible statistical data in this regard. Unfortunately, the representation was rebuffed by the former president with only promises, which he clearly never meant to fulfill.” Tracing the genesis of the problem, the religious body cited the historical educational disadvantage of the predominantly Muslim areas generally and the perception of power by Muslims, since the end of the First Republic, as an end in itself rather than as a means to an end. As a result, the document stated that Muslims assume leadership positions with the primary consideration of the self and with no agenda or planning, and “as the saying goes, he who fails to plan, plans to fail from the very beginning in any endeavour.” Still pressing its case, the group said: “It is no wonder, therefore, that CAN and the various interest groups, i.e., Middle Belt, Free Masons, etc masquerading behind it, have succeeded in foisting their agenda over the rest of the country to ensure dominance in key areas. This is because they were able to articulate very clearly a comprehensive agenda and tactfully disseminated it to its key members in government.” Accusing the Federal Character Commission of not living up to its constitutional obligations, the Supreme Council for Shari’ an in Nigeria further said: “If one takes the issue of control of command positions, mass retirements that are continuing since 1999, involving largely Muslims and juxtaposes the unhealthy trend in recruitment in all the services, it creates a frightening scenario. We believe it is a fatal mistake to feel satisfied, as most Muslims do, with the mere fact of the enshrinement of the Federal Character principle in the constitution. “It is imperative to ensure its application, in toto, as the constitution unequivocally stipulates. For the practical utility of any law lies in its prompt application, especially since the circumstances envisaged in the law have become manifest. The perpetuation of the status quo is an act of gross injustice and injustice can never be justified. It is an evil, which breeds resentment and unless such injustice is promptly redressed fairly, the resultant resentment can produce unpleasant and unpredictable consequences.” |

I think my first accumulated income was robbed off me by a Lebanese jackpot owner. I sneaked out from church with my friends and went there with all my savings and this old man kept encouraging me to play and play in order to win big until I lost all my money. I became heart broken, started crying and went into depression after that[na N5 we de talk about here]. It pained me so much b/c I worked hard for that money.
