The capitals of all US cities and all the other cities in the US and cities of other countries of the world was developed by the city mayors and not the state governors. More than 95% of what you see when you enter an American city was built by the city itself and not the state government.

The city mayors collected whatever revenues they deemed fit and used it to build city roads, city hospitals, city schools and other city infrastructures. They also used it to pay city police officers, city workers, city teachers and city refuse collectors.

Governors of american states do not pay for this things I listed for their cities. The cities bear the burden by themselves. Cities do get subventions from their state governments, but mostly in the form of grants which is used to supplement what the cities are doing.

There's no law in nigeria mandating nigerian governors to develop this or that city, so they have the discretion to do whatever they want. The only way, for you to rectify that, is to vote against whoever is not performing to your expectations. Crying about it daily on nairaland will never help you.

ALLEGED plans by the All Progressives Congress, APC to break the ranks of South East governors belonging to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP may have derailed.

The governors have been severally alleged to have struck a deal to enable President Muhammadu Buhari get at least 25 per cent of the votes in their states in quid pro quo for their own easy re-election.

Concerns over the commitment of the South East governors to the PDP presidential candidate had in recent times emerged upon the open affinity of the governors to President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Three of the governors belong to the PDP, the exceptions being Governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo State who belongs to the APC and Willie Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

All three PDP governors in the region, Dave Umahi, Ebonyi; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu and Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia are all running for a second term.

Umahi had in particular been openly supportive of Buhari’s second term and was only last week endorsed by traditional rulers in the state who at the same time endorsed Buhari.

However, very reliable sources told Vanguard that the “wool was pulled off  the eyes” of the governor at a confidential meeting involving all three governors, Atiku and Senate President Bukola Saraki. 

The meeting which took place in Enugu according to sources was facilitated by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

“Some of the governors had been led to believe that giving Buhari 25 per cent of the votes would not do them any harm but that meeting opened their eyes to the danger of that,” a source at the meeting disclosed.

“They were made to realise that they were all in the first term and that after helping the President,   the president would turn around to push APC governorship candidates to throw them out and don’t forget that the governorship election comes after the presidential.”

Atiku who was present reminded them of the 2003 scenario in which the PDP swept all but  one of the five Alliance for Democracy, AD governors from power. The exception was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos who was allegedly tipped off by Atiku.

Umahi who is from Ohazara in the Southern Senatoial District had been especially touted as a collaborator with the Buhari Campaign following their links in the former All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP.

Sources, however, disclosed that the governor may have reconsidered his choice upon the ethnic dimensions in the state

Contrary to what has been read in some sections of the media, the Imo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, never at any time suspended or expelled its leader, Governor Rochas Okorocha from the Party and has never contemplated doing that and won’t have any reason to think about that.

There is also no faction in Imo APC. There is only one APC in the State with Hon. Daniel Nwafor as the Chairman and Owelle Rochas Okorocha as the leader. Any other group Claiming to be a faction of Imo APC must obviously be a gang of 419ers or league of fraudsters who are experts in issuance of dud cheques and collecting billions for jobs not done.

The only contentious issue in Imo APC is that the National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole imposed a known PDP member and a known character in the State on the Party as its governorship Candidate, and by so doing, pushing the party and its members to a very tight corner especially when it comes to the issue of marketing a Candidate.

If Mr. Oshiomhole didn’t want the preferred Candidate of members of the Party in the State, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, for any reason, and if he actually meant well for Imo APC, he would have taken one of the Guber Aspirants that formed the Coalition who are known members of the Party, and who is also from Owerri zone since that was the reason some of them in the Coalition Claimed that made them to leave the government.

But the APC National Chairman preferred a PDP man and also from Orlu zone. And he imposed the Candidate on the party and at a time the man was facing charges on corruption. That is the problem with Imo APC and its guber Candidate.

This is the 100th time I'm saying this, but I'll keep repeating it. At least, there's some kind of urban renewal in owerri to make other towns like orlu or okigwe jealous. But nnewi or onitsha is not complaining because there's no urban renewal going on in awka. Warri people are not crying because there's no massive urban renewal going on in asaba. There's absolutely no urban renewal projects going on anywhere in nigeria. So, all these crying about orlu and okigwe not getting anything is because there's actually something happening in owerri which is not happening in other cities in nigeria.

Nearly any development infrastructure you find in Asaba is found in Warri.

In Anambra, no governor can contemplate what is happening in Imo state, without getting impeached. Of course, the senatorial zones of Anambra state get commensurate attention from every governor.

You can never justify using the resources meant for development of an entire state to build what suits you in just one space in the state - Owerri.
