Osun State Government, yesterday, chided Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) for its allegations against the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, over appointment of commissioners.

The government said MURIC had failed in its bid to foment religious crisis in the state, saying that appointment of commissioners and permanent secretaries was based on merit and competence.

In a statement, the government noted that ever since assuming office, Adeleke had premised his governance decisions on competency and commitment to duty by appointees, as well as avowed commitment to deliver good governance and correct inherited ills from previous governments.

“His first appointees occupying commanding heights of the government were appointed not by religion but merit, competency and conformation with his style of leadership.

“The same principle of meritocracy, which produced the nominated commissioners, was applied in the appointment of permanent secretaries. This policy of equity, fairness and competency also guided the many landmark decisions of the governor.

“MURIC should look elsewhere for its merchandise of extremism and division. Religious leaders in Osun understand and support the governor with prayers, which uphold him every second,” the statement reads in part.

MEANWHILE, the World Bishops’ Council (WBC) Africa, berated Prof. Ishaq Akintola for making move to cause religious mayhem in the state by accusing the governor of being a secret agent of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over appointments.

Spokesman of the Council, Bishop Seun Adeoye, in a statement in Osogbo, said: “For the mere fact that Christians had in the past ignored series of inciting statements issued by Akintola against their faith should not be seen as cowardice but rather as a way of keeping away from a man whose hidden intention has always been to cause religious crisis in the country.

“There is nothing wrong if Akintola was asking for fairness for Muslims from Governor Adeleke but this man surreptitiously hid in his statement what can cause chaos between peace-loving Christians and Muslims in the state.”

The Council urged Akintola to thread softly and give peace a chance not only in Osun but in Nigeria.

“Akintola knew what he was doing when he said Governor Adeleke is a secret agent of the Christian Association of Nigeria and that what the Governor did by the commissioners-nominee was a wanton blockage of Muslims to over-pampered and over-fed Christians in Osun State.


“This is a call to violence against the Christians in the state. Unfortunately, this Akintola, an indigene of the state was dumb when Governor Adeleke, a Muslim himself announced his first three key appointments six months ago.

“These three men are all Muslims and they included the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (COS) and the Governor’s Spokesman.”

According to him, “I am not in a position to defend Governor Adeleke’s political appointments. I am not a politician. And I wish to say that it is not a bad idea to speak out against marginalisation.

“But for Akintola to cause mayhem between Christians and Muslims who have been living harmoniously together because of political appointments will not be tolerated.

“Before MURIC Executive Director put pen in his paper and sign any statement again, he needs to think of its consequences,” he added.

See the way he twisted his first comment here just to undermine the fact that another lady has confirmed what Tonto has been saying all this while. He said he wasn't judging their characters but their cases, and that's because it's no longer possible to defend his character at this point, so they find the next thing that might put him in a better light.

The Churchill guy has about 3 failed marriages now, each ending with a similar story - abuse and cheating. And the dude you're arguing with has the mind to say his case is better than Tonto who's busy raising her son. Tonto who got married once and got divorced is being accused of not being able to keep a home, but the man who's jumping from one marriage to another is better off according to the guy. He's saying that someone who has gone through the pains, stress and emotional turmoil of separation has a less shameful case than that of the other individual who's waiting and hoping for a better partner? In his reasoning, the person who seems vindicated by the new development is worse off than the one who's got the shame of having to explain to his social circle why can't keep it together. In 2015, Amaechi never deployed soldiers to snatch ballot boxes as you rightly opined. And couldn't have. In 2015, Jonathan was still holding stint and couldn't have approved soldiers to a man who was opposed to his bid at re-election.

The issue you cited transpired in 2019. And APC didn't have a candidate in the said election.

This was how you were assigning funny figures to Atiku and Tinubu in the Southeast and Southsouth before the elections; I told you it won’t happen but you argued you a are a professor of ‘real politick’.

I can take what you said about other people because they appear realistic but how did you arrive at your conclusion about Wike?

Let me tell you the reality on ground, like I told you before the elections, Wike is the most hated politician in Rivers State in particular, and the entire Southsouth in general, as of today. If he contests in a free and fair House of Assembly election today, he would fail even if his opponent is a stone.

What you are mistaking for popularity is just his network of criminal structure within the PDP across some Southsouth states. But for the fact that these guys are associating with him alone, they have lost popularity just like Wike.

Things were even better for Wike before the election. But after doing what he did during the election, he buried himself by himself. That’s why he’s struggling to get a post in Tinubu’s govt so he can stay relevant.

As you didn’t before the election, I don’t expect you to believe what I’ve said here, not like I care, I just wanted to state the facts as they are; like I always do.
