Aladelokun: how can you say 'no hard feeling' I had a junior then in my sec. sku and now do you mean he will be in my class. Anyway, all is well. No hard feeling and Amb, how about the OAU stuff you once mention here. Have you jettison that for Eksu? and as at last year, only 35 students moved to 200 level out of 50 to the college of medicine and this current level 1 are about 70 + the merging peeps...how will the game be?
Abt d game, av u watched royal rumble? Lolz
it's going to be clash of d titans boss. I think coll of medicine will av to augment d numbers of medic dat will move on to be sophomores in d college as we now av over 80 medics in 100 level.

Abt OAU's, she don gimme d admission dis year effortlessly by God's grace nd will.

kolidave: Lol. This is funny oooo. See freshers they tell jambites say them be seniors
No be so. Abi we no senior dem ni. Don't u know 9ja folks, d newly admittted ones will start asking dia seniors(female ones) out, as in.

I think we av to stage a protest. It's unfair. I personally think d management must meet 3 conditions b4 we acquiesce in d ill-advised merging.

1. D new ones must not date d old ones. If dey must av inamoratas, dey shud be on pull with demselves.
2. D new ones must always use bro nd sister appellations when approaching us.
3. Matriculation of d old ones must be befitting with foods galore( oozles of cows nd goats be slaughtered, bags of rice et all) While d new ones may do dia matriculation with cabin biscuit nd pokipoki.

If dese are met by d skul management, i bear d new ones no grudge.

How do u think?

kolidave: lol no worry, the seniority will reflect in your certificates, different year will be put there. Lecturers might even favour the old set more than the new
Abt d reflection, it does not count at all. I concur with lecturers( hinges on dem tho) giving us preferential treatment cos it's a way of compensating us.

I think i will av to customize my T' shirts with 100 level 2012/2013 section. Lolz
If d newly admitted ones grow wings, we know what to do to prevent dem from being orgulous nd impudent.

Anuoluwap: They don merge una with the current 100l. Lol...if you check the screening letter it was stated there that "resumption for 200-500 level students will be out in due time." Now, the question is why didn't they write resumption for 100-500level students? Can you now see clearly that we don enter am?
Chai! U ve said it all dude. U don enta am. Gumption wud tell a doubting thomas dat merging is not just probable, it's certain.

Johnsinia: tell the lecturer that if he fails to show up his ugly face on or b4 Dec 4th, he will be fired and thrown out of the university community. Tell him that e go do am like india movie.
As much as I don't advocate dis strike action. Firing lecturers won't mitigate d pathetic state of our universities.

Not even in a country dat we have paucity nd dearth of qualified lecturers. It will rather encumber the snag @ hand if dey re fired.
Legions of unemployed graduates out there are inexperienced so dey re square pegs in round holes as far as lecturing job is concerned. Dis will rather aggravate d already decay nd rut in d quality of graduates produced year in nd out.

lomaxx: Nigerian medical undergraduates are still writing usmle. I have a friend at ABU who wrote it earlier this year. He had a good score but be still felt he could have done better.

For an IMG applying for residency in US, step 1 scores are very important. You have just one chance to make a shot (at least that's how I see it). So if along the line, your school calendar will give you time, go for it. If not, do your electives there and write the steps after grad.
Your responses av always been spot-on nd rattling sir.

Thank u. Wish u more insight
EducationRe: The medical students and aspirants thread by AmbFitsaint(m): 1:56pm On Dec 01, 2013
lomaxx: Since you're yet to start pre-clinicals and pre-med, the best you can do is prepare your mind.

Well- the aim of writing usmle is to get into residency in the us. And as IMGs we are already disadvantaged. USMLE alone is not enough to earn a spot. A lot of factors will determine whether you'll get in. E.g the specialty you're applying to, your usmle scores, the strength of your letters of recommendations, your personal statement etc etc

And about usmle- it's not enough to write this exam. As an IMG, it is a matter of priority that you ace this exam. Once you pass, there is no room for improvement. If you pass, you don pass. And your number of trials will bring down your chances of getting a spot.

As a Nigerian medical undergraduate, I have been severely disadvantaged in taking this exam. USMLE needs exclusive preparation. Unfortunately, after my 100 level, we don't have any official holiday till graduation. The little I've had is a 3-week break after Part 2 MB Exam and the public holidays. The rest of the days are very indulging. So I can't write this exam because 1) if I ace usmle, I'll mess up at home. 2) I need to ace home stuff- that's where the stakes lie. I'm saying this to say that if your school's academic calendar is convenient, you can sneak in study for this exam and ace it. I won't advise that you prioritise usmle over home stuff. There will be ample time for usmle later...even after graduation.

However, one thing which you must have before graduation (notice how I said "must"wink, is USCE( US Clinical Experience). I highly suggest that anyone that wants to do residency in the US must do his/her final year electives in the United States. This is the only chance you can get to have direct-contact with patients...and not mere observerships. Those folks prefer folks with USCE over those with observerships or worse still- those without. There are some hospitals that don't require USMLE before you do your electives. You can always know them.

I wish you good luck in all your endeavours.
Perfect!
Thank u very much. More power to ur elbow boss

Pls, have u heard or seen a Nigerian medic dat aced both d home nd USML exam?

I am yet to start pre-clinicals not to talk of pre-medical but I want to know more abt USMLE .

Dr Lomaxx nd oda remarkable medics , I am looking forward to hearing more abt dis as

EducationRe: Medicine Or Pharmacy by AmbFitsaint(m): 10:24pm On Nov 30, 2013
lomaxx: As an IMG, 3 things would determine whether or not you'll be accepted into residency in the US.

1) USMLE scores
2) US Clinical Experience where you get LORs (Letters of reccomendation)
3) Personal statement.

I also intend to pursue a US Residency and Fellowship after graduation.
IMG= International Medical Graduate.

We're sha derailing the thread. The medics thread would be a nice place to continue this discussion.

charleymed: Amb fistan, am in your shoes also. I have been doing so many researchs on that USMLE even before i got admitted into medical school. USMLE is divided into three.
Step 1
step 2 (clinical knowledge) and (clinical skills)
step 3
in step 1, you will be examined on basic medical science, i.e. Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, genetics, biostatistic, behavioural medicine and dietics.
So step 1 is meant to be written when you are through with BMS courses, probably after your 5th year. The exams is very demanding especially for we IMG's due to the fact that our curriculum is not designed in a way to help us prepare for the said exams. But with hard work and commitment one can easily scale through, wishing you the bestg
Wow! How can I thank u?

I am very much grateful boss. I grasp d IMG's using d contextual element but what does it really stand for?

Is it to consider d unmitigated exposure, d competitive academic atmosphere, d resounding lectures(depending on ur univ)?
Go 4 pre-science. It gives u a very great edge over congested utme's aspirants. U av two opportunities to be admitted(tru postjamb nd pre-science exam) making univ's admission less demanding nd less taxing.

More dan 70% of pre-science students are admitted annually, less dan 40% percent of postjamb applicants are admitted annually( rough estimate tho)

I wish to know more abt d exam sir "USMLE" if i am not mistaken. Does one write d exam during one's pursue of MBBS in one's undergraduate days or after induction? emedy: wow...3million naira a month?? I must admit very few! And in these Few dy must ol b Consultants, own a high charge Priv hospital, venture into NGO nd also work for Govt like in 3 or 4 Teachinq hospitals. Mostly rare speciality like a Neuro-Surgeon dt his xpertise z need ol over d world. I knw a Professor of Infertility dt charges close to 3m for a case,nd he'll definitely give u a child no matter how impossible nd improbable d chances are. He fail in like 2 out of 7,the problem z he won't b havinq cases ol tro dy year,so dr z bound to b broke days. I mentiond a doctor of Internal Medicine dt charges over 100,000 for in patients,dy are times dy wud lack patients also. So lemme summarize by sayinq 3million naira z high payout, involves hardwork and smartness, likely to b achieved only by a Consultant.
As a result of my public-spiritedness, I av conscientiously conceived many visions that will consume millions of naira . Dat was y i asked.

Giga thanks sir for heeding to my "childish" question. I am indebted. May God enlarge ur coast.
EducationRe: Medicine Or Pharmacy by AmbFitsaint(m):
emedy: Dnt wana Condemn any post here. Buh lemme try and help dy OP.
My Bro z a Doctor...he's satisfied wif his job, lives comfortably and has a bright future. I won't say d Career z nt Lucrative because they actually determinant is much later after ur MBBch,dts when u specialise, either beinq a surgeon,O&G,pediatrician, internal Medicine,OPD,community and Family Medicne and a lots of speciality. The Career has diff stages ryt from when u graduate, a House Officer-180,000,NYSC-depending but nt less dan 100,000,Registrar,Snr Reg,Chief Registrar- Salaries ranging from 280,000 til 450,000 also depending. Finali,u cud become a Consultant, most works in Teachinq hospital, here d salary z not less than 1million naira due to d fact dt u'll teach nd also work for govt in diff teachinq Hospitals, own a pri hosp, etc. As a Consult,u Pay-cut depends on ur speciality again,if its internal Medicine dt has numerous consultants, den u'll have slight competition and normal pay. Department like Neuro-Surgery,dt has few specialist,u'll b hot. Eg Uniuyo Teaching Hospital has no Specialist in dt field,so u cudnt what I mean,Consult are made from other teachinq hospitals.
Buh I need u to understand dt in each of dz stages,u hv a tough exams to pass. Dz z whr pple are limited...70percent of d doctors u knw are nt Specialist, dts dy cudnt even pass d first primaries to start residency(registrar),so dy can't go up dt ladder. In dz case,dy end their career as simple Medical Officers, treatinq minor illnesses nd they are pay like oda civil servants wif slight difference, some venture into politics nd priv clinic whr they hire consult to major cases. Dnt u underate dt exams cos my bros has written it like twice yet,nd trust me when I say he's gud,buh cudnt pass,hv seen pple dt hv written like 7times.hv also seen a Registrar dt was dropd out of UUth of he cudnt proceed from Registrar to Senior Registrar.d exams z both National nd West African. Each stage has an exams to pass. As a Consult,u can't b charge under any court,u contribute to Medicine.Ure nt liable for any action u take. Leme rush nd type cos of my ba3.

Now abt Pharmacy...I'm a Pharmacist, well satisfied wif my Profession,hv never envied my bro for Once yet. We are d next best Paid after Doctors,nd a Doctor wud olwais head a Hospital.
We hv different fields, unlike doctors,u are free to chose any field after ur first degree. We have Community Pharm,Industrial Pharm,Hospital Pharm, and teachinq. If u wana be damn rich I'll advise Indust.Pharm or Community Pharm.I shud lecture u abt indust pharm, buh its abt stakes. As for comm pharm,I hv frens dt make over 1m daily for sales in their shops. Only a Comm Pharm z allow to ce a Patient.
As a Pharm,u can't combine fields, its illegal,so dt a hosp pharm won't siphon drugs meant for patients to his pharmacy shop, etc.buh there are various ways to make gud money
Businessmen olso run Pharmacies,dy rent a Licence, like mine for a Minimun of 120,000 amonth in uyo,nd require a local pharm to do consult, pay is Negotiable, buh nt less nt 80,000 for few hours, these are PCN rules. So as a Pharm Lecturer,I get salary from my Uni,rent out my license and also do local pharm in 2pharms,my pay evry mnth z little above 500,000. My frens in Comm nd indust Pharm are earninq quite more.
There are Professional exams dt makes u more important in d profession too.
Pharm z also cool.
Pharm z jes abt drugs oo
A pharm has a right to Cancel any ambiguous presp.
Has no right to a Patient xcept a Comm Pharm
Intern z 150,000 dependinq
Nysc z nt less than 100,000 dependinq too,u cud also b a local pharm to 1 or 2shops.

I blive I hv aleast clear some air on dz too professions.I can't just type evryfin here.
Sorry for being an interloper sir.

May the almighty God continually enrich u sir with wisdom. Thank u 4 delving much into dese two professions. U made my day. With dis, my eyes are opened to tactically exploit my chosen profession in d nearest future.

But do we av doctors dat earn more than #3 million after conquering d umpteen arduous professional exams? I am just curious sir, sorry 4 being childish here. Or let me it paraphrase by saying what is the maximum pay a successful nd certified doc can earn monthly?
