I personally don't think that is practicable. In sense that for a skul like UI to rlis her cutoff, she wud have compiled(may be jumbled one) the names and courses of those that made d merit for each department.
So it's like asking dat with zoology admission @ hand, can't I change my course/dept on the merit list cos my score and my course are terrifically not compatible in the +ve sense.

You mostly will have 4 lectures each working day except a day where u have like 3. Time duration for each is 1 hr.
You have lectures everyday. I am happy for BCPite, u don't have to wake up early(LOL) cos ur lectures are usually close the d noon time. Most of the time, dey are around 10-11 am. But 4 d glrites,empites and may be cmpites, u have to leave hostel as early as possible for ur morning lectures(8 am)

During my little stay in moro, i imbibed the culture of leaving the hostel for the CDL pavilions to read even without any morning lectures. Dis i did to maximise my study time cos it was nt always realistic to read in d hostel with hearsays,chitchat,football gists, disturbance and unavoidable distractions. You know now boiz hostel!(TONGUE IN CHEEK)

But I think d issue of placing different cutoff for 1st nd 2nd choice applicants is unlikely and improbable.
This is because UI has never used different cutoff for most or more preferred applicants b4. Though, we are all aware of the mutable admission process of the UI but it still does not change the fact UI will neva give preferential cutoff to her 1st choice. Y?
Since we are virtually all shortlisted by her which is the 1st screening exercise, it will be no justice to be biased with d 2nd screening process which is the entrance exam.
A friend once told me dat the UI takes delight and pleasure in admitting aspirants with gud scores irrespective of the choice one makes her. Also, that 2nd choice applicant's prayer shud be , "LET UI just SHORTLIST me". After shortlisting, aspirants are given same treatment.
The worse she can do is not to offer admission to any 2nd choice applicant like some skuls(Lag or may be OAU 4 some courses et all), but to increase d cutoff 4 dem, I beg to disagree.

Pd gives u d edge over other aspirants when it comes to admission into the OAU. Out of 2500 predites admitted annually, 1500(ball park figure) will be offered admission even at the expense of jambites if all the 2500 make the general cutoff which is 180 for jamb and 60% for pd.
In comparison to the outrageous applicants that seek admission through postjamb( in 2011 for instance), they were abt 42000, 8600+ scored above 200, only 3500 wud probably be admitted though the admission quota is 5000+ for oau but predites wud always be favourably considered.
Paying such an exorbitant skul fee and passing through the vigorous lectures, endless stress, acidic contact tests and exams in pd will activate seriousness and unleash the genius in you. Many jambites dat have made several attempts tru postjamb to be admitted but futile tend to bomb when they get to pd. For instance, it is said dat more 30% of pple dat score above 300 are always predites in postjamb. E.g d best postjamb and 2nd best postjamb students dis year were predites with the best having a jamb score of 288. This is cos of the exposure to the oau style of questions through pd and d industrious culture pd imbibes in predites.
Pd offers use a very high chance of getting competitive course like engineering, law and may be medicine cos of the not so high cut off through for those courses through pd. E.g engineering is 60+ through pd and 250+ through jamb dis year.

Considering d fact dat d general cutoff for jamb is 180 through pd into oau unlike 200 for a jambite compel the conclusion that GREAT IFE PREDITES ARE GIVEN PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT WHEN IT COMES TO UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION.
Lest I 4get, predites outstand and outsmart others on the main campus OAU. Don't ask me yyyyyyy

I av more dan 4 close friends who have 2 opportunities to marry medicine dis year in the two of the leading federal univs in the southwest. These guys have been chasing medicine for some years(some 4, 3 years). Now medicine is seducing them in her beauty and honour. To the glory of God I am not exempted(having like 3 ravishing medicine opps at Jesus knee' for me).
The keys are apart from God's grace and will:
Diligence,hardwork,perseverance,endless appetite for jacking, long suffering( reading while others are sleeping, jacking while others are loathing around, toasting ur lamlads,ababio,okeke,afolabi physics,modern physics while others are toasting babes around, fasting while others eating).

Blessed are the medical aspirants who are thirty of dia buks and long to jack, for they shall be filled with joy when they experience admission galore for medicine, when they are inundated with offers to study medicine from diff univs.
In conclusion
God is not short of anything we desire or need if truly we lay dem down at His throne and do things that enlift Him on His throne.
I am sure our unsatiable taste for our books will touch Him to give us the course,grades dat we desire cos it is God's will for His children to shine so that all can give glory to His name in heaven.

5. MEDICINE IS NOT MEANT FOR EVERYBODY.
Have u ever asked yourself why with ur industrious and serious measures you painstainkingly observe to get medicine. It always tells you "NO".

Pls, meditate on this "SCRIPTURE".

MANY PLANS ARE IN A MAN'S MIND. IT IS THE LORD'S PURPOSE FOR HIM THAT WILL STAND".

You might read all books in the world, u might know all chemistry and physics formulae, you might read till u get wearied to get medicine but pls don't 4get dat "WILL OF GOD and HIS PURPOSE ARE IMMUTABLE". Have u ever knelt to God and ask Him what He created you to study?

You might dragoon urself into medicine but if it is not the perfect plan of God for u, you might end up to be frustrated and unsuccessful. There are two 2 types of doctors, the successful ones and the unsuccessful ones.
"The successful ones are not made but chosen".

You must not be bent to study medicine cos God may have other plans for you. If He realises dat getting the admission to study medicne may deviate His plan or sideline you for His perfect purpose and will. He MAY not grant you irrespective of how industrious and desperate you av for the course.
Most importantly, seek God's perfect will. His plan for us is innumerable times better than ours. Seek Him 1st and follow His will.

3. Remove the mentality of "crying for the moon" as far as medicine admission is concerned. PPLE THAT STUDY MEDICINE ARE NOT BETTER THAN YOU.
I used to live with the piteous mentality that medicine is meant for the "iwe factorial gods".
Whenever I came across any medical student in the past, it was almost natural for "my bones to melt" cos of my plethoric adoration for them. If u av d mentality, pls majestically say to yourself, they are mere students like me ; I can do better than them. Leaving such zone will arouse the genius in you, will make you bliv in yourself and of course will emanate great confidence abt d assurance of studying it one day.

WANNA DISCOVER MORE SECRETS OF GETTING MEDICINE?

Medicine is not just competitive, it it is the most sought after course
Not just because of its job prospect and security or six-figure jumbo pay, it is the most lucrative course virtually every parent is desirous of getting their beloved children and ward into.

With dis, one can assume the fact dat it is "d survival of the fittest" to get admission into a reputable medical skul
These are just my 1 kobo humble opinions on studying medicine in Nigerian universities

1. You must live and breathe medicine. It is worth it
2. You must not be loath to admit that MEDICINE is not for the MEDIOCRE. My 1st attempt was nt dat bad with a 250+ agg to study medicine. * I deemed dis as mediocrity in action cos it's far lesser than d cutoff slated then*. I prayed unclad and fasted to be admitted into a medical skul den cos of my desperation. It was later I felt within my spirit that what cud stop me from studying medicine apart from God's plan or will is WALLOWING in state of MEDIOCRITY.
Not until u have a thumping decision to move out of mediocrity, MEDICINE may just be a wishful desire considering the mother of all traffic JAMS of medical aspirants in acidic JAMB, let alone the "bokoharamic" post JAMB of Nigeria's competitive universities.

You can pay d fee anytime b4 d deadline. It's advisable to pay early to get a not-too-distant hostel to/from CDL. It is refundable but dia wud be some little deductions. Some predites took back part of dia fees cos dey wia admitted during d course of the programme. I am absolutely sure of this cos I wanted to do dat in January but d student affair "woman" said it was too late. Had i come earlier, my request wud av been successful.
All u need to do is just to write a letter and forward it to the OAUCDL management on the main campus(may be via d moro mini campus)
@ all, Use lamlads phy and chem. First year univ physics is also recommended 4 phy esp during 2nd contact. Use note for bio and invisible teacher and note for english. Compare notes also.

@ovie God bless you. Remembered my 100level days when I live Osekita a 10mins walk to the school @ 5:45am for 7am(math 101 and Chm 101) just to sit in front and see the board. Need I tell that still I won't sit in the first four rows and I sometimes wonder if those people do sleep over night in classes. Yet we aren't merge.

I just couldn't pray for my 100level days to be over. Imagine Faculty of Science(11dept or so), Agric(4dept), engr(like 5dept), Education(them plenty like water) and medcine struggling for seat in a hall not to talk of merging.

The result of the merging: Exam that is suppose to take 2 weeks, but because of the limited hall now takes a month will now almost take 2 month. Literally when 100level sciences are writing exam in the school only 400 level due write that day. Those who do write in the lab and LT. Why? : Because of 100 level population where they use the 3000 seaters, another 1050 seaters, another 1500 seaters, another 750 seaters and other halls for a single papers.

those nursing intention on merging and already preparing should better channel their time and resources on another thing.

I am a seconder to ur humble opinion.

We have inadequate lecture theatres not to talk of hostels that will also accommodate them. I was habitual of leaving 4 lecture as early as possible with the intent of sitting @ the front seats but still cudnt get a place to seat which made me resort to standing @ d front. That is my gripe which i do bemoan nd highly detest.
We currently in 100level are abt 2500(science students dat offer phy101 which is a gen course) in a hall(ball park estimate) and still strive to grasp what d lecturer offers cos of the outrageous nos of students in d pt hall,rowdiness @ its highest peak if the truth must be said.

So I opine that merging will do more harm dan good which is certainly unpragmatic. So, I suggest we stop pooh poohing what is not.

For umpteen times, we wud av witnessed severe beatings of our colleagues or been victims of this act from our teachers. Though, d purpose of this is to serve as deterrents to other mischievous students but it's obvious that our teachers abuse dat most of d time.
I av witnessed several events where seniors wud be asked to uncloth demselves up on d assembly ground den instantenously followed by intense wallop. Is dis justifiable in the ideal education settings.
Is dis inhuman on part of 9ja teachers cos I bliv teachers abroad don't treat dia students same way?
Is dis d most effective way of inculcating discipline in2 d minds of ours students?

The best time one can figure out a serious student with unbridled taste for books is when he/she is no longer in a tight reading atmosphere as we have it in skul.
I seldom sleep 4 hrs in skul even without forthcoming exam or test coz I am always glued to ma buks most of d time dat I often doze off in my fellowship as a result of depriving myself nite rest in skul. It's pathetic dat reverse iz d case now. It's apparent dat i am not as serious as i used to be. I now sleep 12 hrs a day most ov d time. Hmmnn, it's time i made some changes now.
