Politics › Nigerian Corruption: A New Type Of Scam by amor4ce(op): 7:15am On Mar 30, 2012
Mar 29th 2012, 9:13 by G.P. | ABUJA

https://media.economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/full-width/images/2012/03/blogs/baobab/20120331_MAP502.jpg

NIGERIA, to many of its citizens' dismay, is know for its scams. Since moving to Abuja, Baobab has received over 100 obviously dodgy e-mails a day with offers of millions of dollars accompanied by assurances that "pls this is not a joke and i would not like you to jeopardise it". Some e-mails are marginally more convincing with senders claiming to be bankers or bureaucrats. They are well written and free of typos. Some play on greed, others on charity and many on sheer stupidity. The scammers, who mostly use internet cafes, are hard to trace.

Now a different type scam has been uncovered. In 2010 an ex-employee of AT&T, an American telecoms giant, filed a lawsuit against the company accusing it of knowingly allowing their service for hearing-impaired callers to be abused by Nigerian fraudsters, costing the American government $16m. IP Relay allows deaf people to type messages over the internet which operators from companies such as AT&T then read out to recipients. Each call costs around $1.30 a minute, which is reimbursed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The Department of Justice, which is now suing AT&T, estimates that as much as 95% of AT&T’s IP Relay revenue since December 2009 has come from fraudulent abuse of the system by foreign criminals. Thousands of calls came from Nigeria. The American government says that criminals working out of Nigeria used the service to order goods with stolen credit cards and counterfeit checks, defrauding a host of American companies. AT&T provides a trustworthy American voice and total anonymity.

Though the details are only now coming to light, the fraud appears to have been going on for years. An internal study at AT&T found that on January 14th and 15th 2004, 10 out of 12 users of the service were from Lagos. One IP address racked up 100 hours of calls in those two days alone. The lawsuit says AT&T did little to stop it and retained loopholes in their verification systems to facilitate the fraud. Avoiding stricter registration policies allowed international callers ineligible for the service to sign-up, said the Ministry of Justice, which earned the telecoms giant millions of dollars in payments from the FCC.

Foreign investors say corruption—which conservative estimates say costs Nigeria between $4 billion and $8 billion dollars a year—is the main reason to avoid the country. Operations like this will do little to assuage their fears.

What is the Yoruba word for bee?

If a person has lesions/boils (which usually look reddish) from an insect sting, is it not easier for the epidermis at that area to be broken/ruptured?
Culture › Re: Oyibo Or Oyinbo..which Of Them Is Correct? by amor4ce(m): 3:33am On Mar 26, 2012
It is Yoruba for "a person whose skin appears to be peeling from bee stings" as oyin refers to bees while bo refers to peel.

Suggestion, get a copy of the Book of Jasher (referred to in the 2 Book of Samuel) and search (ctrl + f) for Esau/Edom and replace with Igbo. You'ld notice a trend that has continued till now.

“Solid as the roof

Thus was declared for Ọrunmila through his diviner called Albino
At a time when Ọrunmila set out from heaven earth-ward bound.
He (Ọrunmila) said “He is going to earth
To acquire wealth
To own houses
To have many wives
To have several offspring
To crown all these by establishing order on earth.”

He was advised to tread with circumspection due to the presence on earth of evil forces that prevent people from achieving any good.

Ọrunmila replied that He sees no obstacle
He will surely acquire wealth
He will surely acquire houses
He will surely acquire wives
He will surely acquire offspring
He has the wherewithal to establish order on earth.

He was commended for His righteous mission, and asked “When will You return?

He said He will return when the stone at the riverbed blossoms
When the potsherds lining the streets ooze out blood
When what has to be done has been done
When what has to succeed has succeeded
When time approaches but never arrives.

He was asked:

When will the stone in the riverbed blossom?
When will the potsherds in the streets ooze out blood?
When will what has to be done be done?
When will what has to succeed succeed?
When will time approach but never arrive?

He responded:

If you find it difficult to understand,
He said He will not return anymore to heaven.

Thanks for your responses. I agree we need to be conscious and alert, to avoid repeating mistakes over and over again, and to guard against deception and delusion.

Whether in the diaspora or in Africa we are one family and we have one progenitor.

To the Yoruba Nation/Assembly/Congregation/Church, take care with the likes of PAGAN 9JA who try to discourage and deceive us just like the white supremacists and core Northerners have over the years. I have started to wonder if he is a direct descendant of Sanballat and Tobiah (Nehemiah 2:10).

Ptolemeus, we are not descendants of the Egyptians but I had observed over time that many Africans wanted to associate themselves with Egypt because of how mighty that nation once was, and the lies peddled about the physical features of the peoples of the Levant/Mesopotamia/Sumer. Nevertheless there is serious evidence linking Yoruba with Israel and this is quite obvious when reading the Bible – similar attitudes (including regicide), similar customs, similar names, fulfillment of prophecies, even Ifa. Try using your knowledge of the Odu and Yoruba culture to read the Bible about David (Daodu) or the Gospel according to John. You may have also noticed that we (Yoruba/Ewe) already knew of the Saviour prior to the coming of the violent oyinbo against whom our kingdom suffered violence and who took our kingdom by force. Also, it is my opinion that we should not just retrieve our old traditions hook, line and sinker but rather discern which ones Orunmila actually handed down to us and which weren’t.

Kilode?!, we can very much stand by ourselves but we should not give in to hate and emotional poison. The fact is that some envious and evil-minded Europeans plagiarized (including the change of names) our history and then used their plagiarized religion against us. The proof is in the Bible where the Israelites and the Messiah were over and over again described as having Negro features including dada hair. The Messiah’s teachings even seem exactly like Orunmila’s in the Odu Ifa, e.g. the account of how Eji Ogbe became the most senior Odu, and the prophecy that those who exalt themselves shall be humbled and vice versa. There are many more though I don’t see proselytization as one (many who call themselves Christians engage in blatant lawlessness). Another one is the reign of Oranmiyan in Edo which seems like the fulfillment of 2 prophecies and a glimpse of the many more to come. Our people say we know the secrets of the world, compare this with what Moses said in Deuteronomy 29:29. We know how to “resurrect” someone, which is a glimpse of the wonderful one to come soon. The use of Ifa in the Bible has been shown already. Note that the original people of the kingdom of Judah were slaughtered (but the Saviour will resurrect them) by the Romans which gave the Khazars and others the opportunity to steal their identity (identity fraud and theft, 419). The Messiah described these cuckoo Jews explicitly as of the synagogue of satan (Rev 2:9 and 3:9). You don’t need to actively look for links in Christianity, but I want to believe that we agree that if anyone honestly searches/gropes for the Him, Olorun will draw that person unto the Truth. I have a suggestion, can you find out which other people have difficulty like those of Ephraim and Ibadan in pronouncing the sh (ʃ) sound?
Many Christians say what we practice is fetish but theirs appears imbecilic and/or outright evil. They worship the crucifix and carry it about like a charm, even with well-exposed cleavages. Part of the crucifix has an idol of Jesus which is according to the image of Cesare Borgias as painted by Michael Angelo. The name Jesus not the name of the Messiah and this is so obvious in the Bible – strange names in the New Testament that are not in the Old Testament. Now, these images are made of wood, stone, iron etc and many of our people venerate such images with glee, a fulfillment of the curse in Deuteronomy 28:64. Many say they are born again but today there are so many divisions amongst them – different churches). The word “church” appears in the New but not the Old Testament. Church is Latin for assembly and is said to be the bride of the Messiah. According to the Old Testament the bride is Israel+Judah and assembly is used therein when referring to the congregation of Israel. Thus the congregation of Israel is the church, not Roman Catholic or protestant or whatever denomination. Aren’t many of these Christians therefore deluded/blind? I have in the past tried to live as one of them but noticed the conflict with my spirit.

Furthermore, you may have observed that there is no concrete evidence yet of the presence of our people in West Africa from 2000BC till about 700AD as it seems our ancestors suddenly appeared on the scene. Also, the northern kingdom of Israel and others that were deported by the Assyrian Empire left that crumbling Empire around 612BC and this coincides with our appearance in West Africa. Even some of the Assyrians and their kings fled to these parts and are known today as the people of Kebbi in Northwest Nigeria. The Awujale of Ijebuland has also said that the Ijebu migrated; someone from the area of Sungbo Eredo (Oke Eri perhaps) said the queen played a leading role in the migration of the Yoruba peoples. If our people got our historical records straight all the doubts would not have arisen which is why I mentioned earlier that we should not just return to our traditions without discernment. I suggest we use various for a like this on Nairaland and festivals to meet and straighten out all aspects of our culture.

I want to do my best for my people as God did not let me climb and hold on to that chain for nothing! Our forefathers including those who survived the middle passage and the trans-Atlantic slave trade shed their sweat, toil and blood to ensure that we are here today; their faithful efforts will not be in vain. My blog is just one way for me to contribute. Ela loves and has always loved us. He told our forefathers of the slavery and the subsequent desire of His people, us, to return to our roots, drop strange and oyinbo practices, and return to Him with one heart and soul. If you look closely at Paul’s letter to the Romans you’ll see a wonderful message for us. The doubts concerning whether or not Yoruba are of Israel are only but for a while as there is time for everything:

Romans 11:25
For I don’t desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won’t be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in

Christianity Etc › Re: Ori (the Head) by amor4ce(m): 12:31am On Mar 06, 2012
Concerning your post #11 about whether John spoke about Ori or Oro, the latter is accurate - see the quoted text below as copied from destee.com (The Yoruba Metaphysical concept of Ori):
In the Odu Okanran Ogunda there is another version of the creation myth that is not well known. In this version, it is Orunmila (the Prophet, Orisa that represents Olodumare’s wisdom) who carries the snail shell full of the substance which creates land upon the primordial waters. The Snail Shell was taken from the seat of Olodumare and given to Orunmila with the authority to create the earth. In the process of creation, Orunmila dipped his hands into the snail shell and took out measures of earth-dust (Oro, primordial matter) with which land was created on the primordial waters.

Odu Ifa Osa Ogunda

There-were-no-living-things
Was the priest on earth
That-which-was-suspended
But-did-not-descend
Was the priest in heaven
All-was-just-empty-space
With-no-substance
Was the priest of Mid-Air
It was divined for Aiye and Orun*
When they both exited
With no inhabitants
In the two empty snail shells,
There were neither birds nor spirits
Living in them
Odumare then created himself
Being the Primal cause
Which is the reason we call Odumare
The only wise one in aiye
He is the only cause in creation,
The only wise one in Orun,
Who created humans.
When He had no companion,
He applied wisdom to the situation
To avert any disaster.
You, alone,
The only one in Orun
Is the name of Odumare
The only wise one,
We give you thanks,
The only knowing mind,
You created man.
Listening to one side of an argument,
You judge, and all are pleased.
Ase
*Aiye is the visible realm; Orun the invisible realm. Most confuse these two words to mean earth and heaven. Hopefully, when you finish reading this material, you will be able to come back and make sense of the above ese (verse) Odu.

In Odu Ifa Osa Ogunda, part of a verse says, “Iri tu wili tu wili la fi da ile aye, la bu da ile,” which means, “Dews pouring lightly, pouring lightly, was used to create the earth world in order that goodness could come forth into existence at once.” The dew drops are particles of Oro – primordial matter - contained in the snail shell. Once empty, it remains as the representation of the base of causation from which matter derived. The “goodness” speaks to eniyan – human beings, which brought goodness to earth. The oro then melted and was suspended in mid-air (referred to in the above Odu verse as the “priest of mid-air”). Oro then dropped;

Oro, the cause of great concern for the wise and experienced elders
It sounds, “Ku” (making the heart miss a beat)
“Ke” (as a ponderous object hitting the ground)
“Gi” (making the last sound before silence)
and “La”, with a loud cracking sound is transformed into a new state called “Ela.”

Ela is part of the Orunmila complex. Orunmila can be considered the anthropomorphic representation of Olodumare’s wisdom - ogbon, knowledge – imo, and understanding – oye; the most powerful particles or elements in the earth-dust or droppings. Orunmila’s connection to Ori is fundamental to the Ori complex. He is “Eleri Ipin”, the deity of fate. He was present at the moment of creation, and thus knows the fate of every Ori. He acts as the mediator between a person and their Ori through his ability to speak the words of Ifa as they relate to the individual Ori and its destiny. Ifa is the Oracle. Ela is that invisible energy that moves between the oracle and Orunmila, and between Ori and Olodumare – the umbilical cord. Ela is Oro after it hits the primordial abyss. Oro, as primordial matter, has an innate urge to communicate.

The oro that drops from the elderly is stupendous
It was divined for oro-oro-oro
Who did not have anyone to communicate with and started groaning
HOORO, HOO-ORO! (Ogbon, Imo, Oye, descend!)
Olodumare made HOO (Ogbon, Imo, Oye)
HOO descended to become Hoo-ro (I can’t help but notice the similarity between Hoo-ro and Horus)
Ela made Oro digestible and useful to human needs

Ela is the manifestation of the primal urge to communicate. It is the link between human and God; human and human; and human and the universe. This extensionistic conception, prevalent in all religions, is Oro, which manifested is Ela. Its individual manifestation is Ori. The Snail can be viewed as the principle of natural extensionism which forms a basis for that which can be seen and that which cannot; the physical Ori (your skull), and Ori-inu (consciousness, soul). There is a Yoruba phrase, Ori-Ooro, which means, “head at dawn,” dawn being the beginning obviously. Thus, Ori is Oro, and Oro is Ori:

Ori lo nda eni
Esi ondaye Orisa lo npa eni da
O npa Orisa da
Orisa lo pa nida
Bi isu won sun
Aye ma pa temi da
Ki Ori mi ma se Ori
Ki Ori mi ma gba abodi
Ori is the creator of all things
Ori is the one that makes everything happen, before life happens
He is the Orisa that can change humans
No one can change the Orisa
Ori, the Orisa that changes the life of man with baked yam (abundance)
Aye*, do not change my fate (* Aye - unity of the forces of good and evil)
Ori do not let people disrespect me
Ori do not let me be disrespected by anyone
My Ori, do not accept evil

This extensionalistic concept (from God to human), that our Ori is composed of a portion of Oro (each Ori receives a portion with its own special combination of elements contained in the earth-dust – oro - from the snail shell, thus each ori’s individuality) is further elucidated in the sayings, Ori lo da ni, enikan o d’Ori o (It is the Head that created us; nobody created the Head), and Ori eni, l’Eleda eni (one’s Head is one’s Creator), and also in the following oriki:

Ori lo da mi
Eniyan ko o
Olorun ni
Ori lo da mi

Ori is my Creator
It is not man
It is Olorun (Olodumare)
Ori is my Creator

Olodumare made Hoo, which is comprised of three of the most powerful elements contained in the “earth-dust” sprinkled from the Snail shell – Ogbon (wisdom), Imo (knowledge), and Oye (understanding). “Ro” means descend, as in the chant, Ela ro, Ela ro, Ela ro. It is said that Olodumare created Ogbon, Imo and Oye as an intermediary force for creating more beings. IT tried to find a place for them to live, but they came back to IT, humming, and Olodumare swallowed them. They hummed inside IT for millennia, so IT had to get rid of them. Olodumare ordered them to “ro” descend, saying, “hoo-ro.” Oro, the solid matter, melted and was suspended in mid-air like jelly. Oro then dropped and “la” cracked into a new state called E-la, or Ela. Ela (the Spirit of Purity) functions in the Ifa divination complex as the embodiment of Ogbon, Imo, and Oye. Ela is the recognized authoritative source of communication and explanation of the nature of Olodumare and all ITs creation (Abiodun).

Who was the first to speak?
Ela was the first to speak.
Who was the first to communicate?
Ela was the first to communicate.
Who is this Ela?
It was the Hoo which descended
That we call Ela.

In Odu Ogunda Ogbe, we find more references to Snail and Oro:

He Made Divination for the Snail in Orun

Aba she kere mu legun, Odifa fun ibikunle to ma nu kan kunle ara le
The-umbrella-tree-is-short-when-young-but-a-little-later-it-will-become-taller-than-the-roof-of-the-house. That was the name of the Awo who made divination for Ibikunle, when she was single-handedly going to populate her house by herself. Ibikunle is the heavenly name of the Snail and it means the one who produced enough children to fill his or her house. She was advised to make ebo with hen, rat and fish. She made the ebo and began to produce children to fill her house. When it appears at divination for a woman anxious to have children, she will be advised to make ebo because she will have so many children that she will eventually be tired of having more.

He Later Divined for his Friend Oro

Okon kpoki, Erigidí kpií, adita fun Oro nijo ti Oro wo orun kenge kenge.
One-sharp-sound and one-loud-sound (“Ku” and “Ke”)are the names of the Awos who made divination for Oro when he was so ill that he thought he was going to die, (figure of speech) when he was looking forlornly at Orun from his spot hanging in the air. He was advised to make ebo with eko, akara, rat, fish and a chicken. After preparing the ebo, the Ifa priests told him to carry it on his head (ori) to Esu’s shrine. He was further told that on getting to the shrine, he was to back it and incline his head backwards in such a way that the ebo would drop on the shrine (acknowledging Esu as that liminal space between orun and aiye, dark and light).
As soon as he allowed the sacrifice to drop on the Esu shrine, while still backing up to Esu, a voice instructed him to stretch his hands and feet forward. First, he stretched out his left limbs and next his right limbs (with Esu’s help, he makes the transition from the invisible plane to the visible plane. Left limbs darkness, right limbs light). The moment he did that, the disease that had afflicted his body to the point of incapacitation suddenly disappeared. From the shrine, he began to dance and sing towards the house in praise of the Awo. The Awo praised Ifa, and Ifa praised Olodumare. When he began to sing, Esu put a song in his mouth:

ljo logo ji jo, erigidi kpii, erigidi.
ljo logo ji jo, erigidi kpi-kpi-kpí, erigidí.

He was singing in praise of Orunmila and his two surrogates for the miraculous healing he had just experienced. When this odu appears at divination in ibi (negative manifestation) the client will be
told that he or she is suffering from a disease which he or she is concealing, but will be advised to
make ebo to get rid of it. If the indication is ire (positive manifestation), then the person will be told to be expecting some gift or favor.

In the ese (verse) above regarding Snail, we see that Snail is also known as Ibikunle, “the one who produced enough children to fill his or her house.” This is a praise name. It refers to the the Snail’s role in creating everything in the universe, in this case the earth including humans. In the verse following the one about snail, regarding Oro, we find in the names of the Awo, reference to the sounds of Oro dropping and becoming Ela (the Spirit of Purity which represents Ogbon, Iwo and Oye).

Ela speaks through Owe (proverbs, Odu, oriki, chants, ofo ase, etc.), and Aroko (coded symbolic messages- drums, sculpture, dance, song, poetry, etc.). Owe is the horse of Oro; if Oro gets lost, Owe is employed to find it.

ORÍKÌ ELA
Ela ro, Ela ro, Ela ro (ro – descend)
Ifa please descend
Ela, please be present
If you are in the Ocean,
please come
If you are in mid-lagoon,
Please come
If you are on the hunt,
Please come
Even if you are at Wanran in the East
Where the day begins
Please come
Come urgently, Ela
ase

The awo, or diviner, must develop the ability not only to invoke Ela, but to align Ori with Ela. Ela is that substance that is extensionalistic; that connects our inner self in the visible plane with our higher self on the invisible plane. The historical prophet Orunmila was an incarnation of the Spirit of Ela and the alignment of Ori with Ela is known as returning to the time when Orunmila walked the earth. This alignment occurs as a result of consistent attention to the Ifa discipline of chanting oriki (communication). Alignment with the Spirit of Ela is the blessing of Ifa and chanting is the road to that blessing (Fatunmbi). In order to work with one’s Ori, Ela must be invoked first.
In fact, and perhaps from the whole text on that site, we can see Genesis 1:1-2 and John 1:1-10,14 in detail.

It can thus be seen also that Light consists of knowledge, wisdom and understanding, while John testifies that the Messiah (Jesus is not His name)is the true Light. Interestingly, the Toltec say that Light contains information.

My opinion about the patterns is that the involuntary actions you referred to could in some instances be the manifestations of spiritual nudges perhaps without the mind of the concerned individual conscious to such at the moment of putting down the designs. I arrived at this conclusion because I see fractals as a term describing "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven"/"As above so below"/"there is nothing new under the sun"/"repetition of history".

Right now I desire indigenous apparel (including adire) minus the easily fading part.

The Messiah felt unhappiness because of the lack of belief of the people who thought it was over for Lazarus and that HE could do nothing about the transition, despite the mighty works HE had been doing in their sight and the Gospel HE preached. Remember that HE already knew that Lazarus's body was in the tomb long before getting there. I see the verse in question as one of the most thoroughly and gleefully misunderstood of the Bible.
Politics › Re: Afro-asiatic Languages And Nigerian Peoples by amor4ce(op): 2:03am On Mar 03, 2012
It seems to me that descendants of the original peoples of the Levant/Sumer/Mesopotamia are represented in Nigeria. For instance, the people of Kebbi are from Assyria, including Nineveh and Assur. They deported the northern kingdom of Israel and other nations but their empire collapsed under Babylonian siege around 600BC after which they migrated to Northwest Nigeria. It was during this period that Israel left the crumbling Assyrian empire and migrated to West Africa, including Southwest Nigeria.

While looking at Yoruba and Edo history and the history of some other Nigerian peoples I observed that no evidence had been put forth of the presence of these peoples prior to 800-900AD and wondered how it seems they suddenly appeared south of the Sahara. My thoughts were that they migrated from the east (Levant/Sumer/Mesopotamia) and settled south of the Sahara at not too long before 800-900AD. The evidence I eventually got for this hypothesis is from the Kebbi-Assyria paper referred to above - they appeared on the scene after leaving the crumbling empire around 600BC.

We should humble ourselves and ask for help from God.

Ask for knowledge, wisdom and understanding, and apply patience.

The Messiah constantly referred to the Scriptures - Law, Psalms, Prophets - and the Bereans did likewise; this is very important.

I use God-given Yoruba traditions to get elucidations on messages that appear coded.

Omi iru is quite useful for rapidly normalizing blood pressure - my dad used it for a while when his bp was over 200. However the odour from the liquid is something else, really!

To me, such claims point to the validity of a certain stereotype associated with that ethnic nationality. This particular Nri claim seems to be like looking for a reason, even if wayo, to justify the urge to dominate and be seen as dominant. Similar bogus claims were also put forth from some of them that they are one with the present Jews of Israel whereas it is clearly written that those Jews are of the synagogue of satan (Rev 2:9, 3:9). Remember that many, including Dr Azikiwe, encourage themselves to dominate instead of living peacefully with others.

The people of Kebbi have a list of kings dating back to Sargon of Akkad and the time of the fall of the Assyrian empire. If any Igbo kingdom is the oldest the Igbo people can offer momentous evidence with a list of kings.

PAGAN 9JA, I haven't tried to convert anyone here, I haven't told lies, I haven't claimed that what I wrote about the designation Daodu is mine, and I haven't preached on this thread about the oyinbo false Christ Jesus. Yet you have offered no proof/analysis/backing for your condemnation of what I wrote on my blog. You are not part of the Yoruba assembly/nation, and the Yoruba people do not engage in nor support cannibalism unlike yourself. Tell me, did I lie when I referred to a message from Orunmila as recorded in one of the Odu that He will be coming to reign on earth and return not to heaven? Did I lie when I discussed the role of the Daodu of a family as observed by the Yoruba? Did I lie about the meaning of Daodu? Did I lie about the left and the right? Did I lie about the prophecies? Can you prove to me that my blog entry about the name Daodu has any fallacy?

Wouldn't you do well to refrain from hate and throwing away the baby with the bath water?

Remember that David will once again lead Israel (Ezekiel 34:23) in worshiping the Messiah who will rule as King over Israel, and the world. Won't the King of Israel be called the King of Salem/Peace? Who else fulfills the role of that title if not the Messiah?
