The article every Nigerian from the south needs to read. Written by Duruebube I am writing this post with a lot of caution and trepidation. I have never subscribed to ethnic chauvinism and I actually detest being labelled as a tribal bigot. I am usually very careful because I have friends and colleagues from every part of the nation and some of my best friends are not even from my side of the country. However, recent events are making me to have a deeper reflection and I wish we- Southerners in this instance- can have some kind of introspection. Out of 25 appointments made so far, 18 are from the North, 3 are from the South West, 4 are from the South South while the South East has ZERO appointments. A tweet which I saw today stated that “southerners are only competent when it’s time for elections but northerners are competent in terms of governance” and this made the following thoughts run through my mind: 1. Only Southerners have been accusing fellow Southerners of corruption. Oshiomole has been attacking Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as if Ngozi turned down his marriage proposal. The same Oshiomole tried to make nonsense of Akinwumi Adeshina’s successes in the agriculture sector. Ambode tried to pull Fashola down and successfully smeared him with stains. Maybe that’s why Fashola did not get the Chief of Staff role. I’m yet to see a Northerner accuse another Northerner of corruption, even when they belong to different parties. The closest a Northerner got was when the new Kano State Governor attacked Rabiu Kwankaso but he quickly sheathed his sword and even disowned previous reports of attacks. Why are we like this? 2. Are Southerners the only ones who are corrupt? Were there no northerner heading the ministries and parastatals? Did the outgone Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko not have an alleged case of certificate forgery but he still served out his tenure until he resigned voluntarily? I’m not in support of corruption under any guise but the fight against corruption must not be seen to be sectional. 3. How come it’s easier for the President to believe that Sanni Abacha was not corrupt in spite of recovered loot while it is so easy for him to believe Goodluck Jonathan is irredeemably corrupt? 4. I still remember that aside from God, Tinubu made Tambuwal what he is today. The same Tambuwal would later call Femi Gbajabiamila ‘incompetent’ and rated Dogara as more competent. The same Tambuwal was propped up by Tinubu, a Southerner against a fellow Southerner, Mulikat Akande. Obasanjo was very key to denying Goodluck Jonathan a second term. A good number can still recall how OBJ tore his PDP membership card in public glare. The Northerners find it easy to support themselves but we are always pulling ourselves down. Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido and all the other Northern Governors including the former PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu often times refused to campaign for Goodluck Jonathan openly and many times even espoused the virtues of the opposing candidate on the rostrum! 5. Southern leaders and Presidents pull down Southern business men but prop up Northern ones. How many people still remember how Obasanjo ran Mike Adenuga out of town but both Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan made Aliko Dangote what he is today. No northern leader goes against their own. I dare to put it on record that President Buhari will never go against Aliko Dangote for any reason. 6. How come OBJ pardoned Salisu Buhari, the ex-Speaker who forged his credentials and he later was given an appointment as a Governing Council member of a University and heavens did not fall- but when Goodluck Jonathan pardoned Alamieyeseigha it became one of the major issues counted against him? Is there one rule for some and another rule for others? 7. We find it easy to raise our voices in support of the deportation of Buruji Kashamu but have no qualms with Atiku Abubakar strutting around the corridors of power. 8. Only Southerners find it so easy to abuse their elders when they voice opinions not in tandem with the popular opinion. We find it easy to diss Afenifere elders and call them ‘Afenifebi’ while hurling expletives and curses at them. We even abuse our kings and priests. Northerners will never abuse an Emir no matter how unpopular what he said is. Can you imagine any Northerner raising his voice against the Sultan? In spite of Tanko Yakassai, Balarabe Musa and Dangiwa Umar’s perceived support for Jonathan, northern youths did not abuse them. But our own youths run down our elders on social media while our educated elite also support the act. These are some of the thoughts that have been running through my mind. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I do this at the risk of being labelled an ethnic bigot. The point however is that Southerners have to get their acts right. We have to put our house in order. The bickering must stop. Let’s engage our emotional intelligence. Let’s not allow others to exploit our tendency to self-destruct. Bayo Adeyinka is a journalist. Hausa Youths Attack School In Agege Lagos, Beat Up Principal & Teacher During Valedictory Service Panic broke out at the Lagooz School on Omotoye Estate in the Orile Agege area of Lagos State after some hoodlums invaded the school premises. We learnt that some Hausa teenagers, numbering about 100, stormed the school with machetes and other weapons. They were said to have attacked the school’s principal and a teacher, identified as Uncle John, during a free-for-all which lasted for about two hours. Our correspondent was told that the rampaging youths, aside damaging some property of the school, allegedly made away with N1.5m. Policemen from the Elere divison, operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad and some members of the Oodua People’s Congress, were said to have repelled the attack as residents fled the area. Our correspondent was told that seven of the hoodlums were arrested, while others escaped after SARS operatives opened fire on them. A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said trouble started when the school finished its valedictory service party on Saturday, but the teenagers refused to leave the school premises. He said, “They were actually relatives of some of the school-leavers. The valedictory service party ended around 5pm, but they refused to leave. A teacher, Uncle John, tried to force them out. One of them abused the teacher and ran away. “The teacher, who was embarrassed by the abuse, held one of the Hausa teenagers. There was a struggle between them. As the teacher hit the man, he also fought back and held the teacher by the neck, almost strangulating him. “The principal, who wanted to settle the fight, was held by the tie by one of the intruders and beaten up. The principal’s brother, who wanted to rescue him, was given a fist blow in the eye.” The teenagers reportedly damaged about four dozen of the chairs used for the party. Three of them were later apprehended by the school. Those apprehended were reportedly held hostage in a classroom, while the others wreaked havoc on the school premises. A source told Metro that the apprehended teenagers, however, mobilised more gang members into the community on the telephone. He said, “Those boys had their phones and they started calling their friends, who trooped into the school with cutlasses and weapons. “Policemen at the school’s gate prevented them from gaining entrance as they shot into the air. The hoodlums, however, grew in number, which overwhelmed the security agents. “Despite the gunshots, the teenagers refused to go. In fact, while some of them knelt, others prostrated and were begging the police to shoot at them. They were saying, ‘Please shoot us; we want to die’.” It was gathered that some OPC members later came out with weapons and engaged the hoodlums before SARS operatives came out in mass to chase away the teenagers. They also seized motorcycles and weapons from them. We learnt that prominent Hausa leaders had visited the school to make peace with the management. school agege |

You know when I detach myself emotionally and psychologically from the idiosyncrasies if Igbo people as an Igbo dude ...I have come to admire these people called Igbo ...be it from anioma to Anambra to etche to obigbo from nkwerre to okwelle not ikwerre and imo then Enugu and ebonyi I have come to admire these set if people Not that the world called them the most intelligent African race, not that the world call them the most successful African race ...I think I will term them the most resilient I grew up heating my pop and mum yell us about the war the way they survived the way they surmounted the odds that the global world and Nigerian stooge put so that the Igbo race will be damned and when I look back and travel to my place in Anambra or my land of birth in imo I will only but admire the Igbo man. This is when I place them side by side with other tribes and towns like okutipupa, ibadan, gboko and others o will say the Igbo have tried Having £20 pounds as a start up capital with the awolowo indigenization decree with northern scheming and all other denials such as ikwerre I understand that Igbo have come a long way Educationally they are far from statistics Start ups ..igbo are far ..Fayose even sent his people to understand and understudy aba and otu Economically and commerce the Igbo have come to reclaim their position ,they were never president so that people will say that's what gave them that prowess...they were just the Jews the wondering Jews as oludah equiano will say Igbo are enigmatic and proud , they don't fear no one and they fear none... Achebe They will say it is beating if chest ..so be it ..the Igbo have come a long way to take over from people that never fought a war and to people that doesn't know the sound of shelling nor picked spent bombs as I did when I was in secondary school in early 90s at science school etiti Take it or leave it , igbo are enigmatic and they have made Nigeria proud...though hutsler in the (il)legal things but they tend to look at the target not the means . From ICT to transport and from medicals to science. Can somebody tell me why Igbo shouldn't be proud of their achievements . God bless the Igbo and this is a call to repatriate all they have made abroad to home as it is the trend and we have to strengthen our relationship with our SS neighbours God bless igbo land of.... |
SpecialAdviser:Yorubas are not coward but their history is laced with cowardice So with do we blame |
Alokendra:I respect women and decent women is what I respect not monkeys I didn't generalise mind you and not all Yoruba women have this attitude but majority I spoke from observation not hearsay Do you have any problem with truths ? |
Ugomba:You took him to cleaners in few seconds Oga adili yi mma |
wirinet:Ugomba was right ..so get the facts in your head |
Florblu:That's a new escapist theory ...who are those representing miss osun ,miss ekiti, miss oyo et al |
micxwell:I don't even have MSc but my experience had made me earn higher Who gives a rat fvck about MSc MD want to see experience not MSc ..paper stuff .show us what you can do not show us your certificate |
Make no mistake ..they are very pretty with this black skin that radiates and this wonderful shape that will make Nicki Minaj and Kim kardashian jealous but that's all. Very few of them have won beauty pageant of repute be it MBGN or Miss Nigeria ...maybe one or two.but they re pretty maybe not that smart because they said that for you to win those pageant you must have the two.Well , I am not a beauty pageant judge nor a retired model.i am just an observer of things around me I keep asking why is it that most Yoruba men don't value their women. They always look down on their women just like the African American man looking down on their ladies to marry whites . Well I see reasons with them, the Yoruba women are hardly wife material.they are obnoxious, will insult you at the slightest thing and marry them, you will suffer it financially and emotionally. Marrying a Yoruba woman is like a wrong investment and their men know that. They will buy asoebi every weekend, go to party every weekend and use the feeding money to buy jewries . They will then hand your kids plates to buy foods at one mama put. Then forget about fidelity , they will always cheat on you via brother mi ,uncke mi things. Is it a mistake is to marry any of them . This will help me advise someone that is from Edo state that wants to marry one. I am not generalising but having stayed in Lagos for more than a decade I have come to realise that there women gave this aggressive and obnoxious mannerism. Though not all of them but majority of them . Having stayed in FESTAC, surulere, onipan, ikeja and iyana Ipaja now Lekki i have come to draw this conclusion. This isn't a tribal slur on the "sophisticated" ones but a humble observation Why do Yoruba have this complex ?their men dont marry their women nor value them. When a Yoruba man manages to marry the Yoruba woman he will definitely have kids outside and their women will be prone to divorce.other tribes divorce also but Yoruba have a higher tendency to either divorce and have kids at home. A Yoruba friend from ekun Kabba axis told me that they encourage their you girls to have kid at home to show that they are fertile . I said no wonder we have a lot of kids born at home and parents dont frown When a Yoruba woman divorces you, she will be highly welcomed back to their fathers house . She will have her room reserved and this isn't applicable in igbo land or some northern tribe.Do Yoruba encourage their women to be lousy? This is a question Now even the ooni when he ascended the throne he went for another tribes woman and dumping their women. Yoruba men don't marry their women and I don't blame them . You can hardly see an Igbo man coming online to beg to marry a Yoruba woman We are proud. I have this pretty Yoruba woman as a girlfriend and the first date .I asked her why didn't she make her nails ...she said that if she makes it her father won't like it because feaces and excreta will be hidden in the nails. I was nauseated.i kbeww she doesn't go to toilet with tissues. Well , That was the last time I saw her and I didn't bother going the second time . The attitude and their drama too much. So I don't blame these Yoruba boys that came online to beg Igbo ladies. Their women don't even know how to cook. But we all know that Yoruba men are not the best of husband. Marrying them is tantamount to heartbreak ...their must be always the outside child and concubine Yoruba r sometimes cool to be with, their women aesthetically created and nice but.... |

You must be a Yoruba |
Tobbey:Well if you are not okay with that why don't you quit I earn more than that with other pecks like oversea travel etc...I don't even have an MSc and I am not interested in it This is because my years of experience almost 10 yrs is talking and also this is the last place I will work for any man.. The next step is open my own as an Igbo dude So the bottom line is this It is either you eat the humble pie and take the job or you resign and stop disturbing us here |
