Here in England, you may be amazed how ten year old boys and girls can discuss England players and 1966 feat. Some Nigerians are that lucky too. All the players I listed have played for Nigeria in the past while some made brief appearances on on the sub bench. Y. Sofoluwe-a member of flying eagles squad of 1983,played left full back for Nigeria up till 1988. A. Atuegbu--a member of victorious green eagles of 1980 and featured in 1982 squad, a great ranger. Kelechi Emetole- 1978 green eagles. former captain spartans and assistant to S. brothericks in 1985. Ike Madukairo. dropped last minute from 1982 eagles as a result of injury. one can not talk about spartans of Owerri without mentioning him. S. Ozogula-one of the best Nigerian players in the 80's but always had problems with Udemezue and Onigbinde. Ben Ugwu-great ranger. He was a member of the eagles team that failed to qualify for 1986 nations cup. Solomon Okoronkwo-2003 golden eaglet and Silver medalist at the last olympic games. K. Obiekwu- a member of the Atlanta victorous dream team. Uwakwe Eke- dropped in the last minute from the 1988 Seoul olympic team. Law Ukaegbu-flying eagles 1987 squad. played for eagles in 1989. Felix owolabi-played for the victorious geen eagles of 1980. kalu uche- currently with super eagles k. onye.flying eagles 1985 |
Osundo does not mean anything in Igbo language. A lot of Nigerian players' names have been unintentionally spelt wrongly for example, Michael Obi as Mikkel Obi. in Saudi 89, Nigerian commentaors were pronouncing OSONDU and not Osundo. I happen to know this chap personally and even met him coincidentally in Jan 2007 at Aba. |
I'm of the opinion people should sing in whatever language they want to without facing condemnation but what do I know. I dont hear anyone criticizing Christy Essien Igbokwe who sang in various languages.
I agree with you. |
The Igbo-born musicians in Lagos, Kaduna or Jos are the ones who do not sing in Igbo. Their counterparts in the east sing in Igbo. Sunny BOBO, Saro Wiwa, obareze and other up coming artists all sing in Igbo. |
Abiodun Ogbebor was in the Japan 1993 squad. |
HIS name is Phillip OSONDU. Osondu in Igbo language means race of life. The Canadian media misspelt it Osundo. He hails from Okigwe in Imo state but was raised in Aba. He started his football career with Falcon fc which later became Enyimba F.C. |
@poster: Osadebe's OSONDI OWENDI is the highest selling album in Nigeria till this day. |
I do not blame the poster rather I blame some S/W states that do not play Igbo and non-yoruba music. For the fact that for example Radio because Ibadan does not play Igbo music made the poster unaware of the popularity of Igbo musicians and music. |
Amy THAT MEANS YOU SEE YOUR SELF FIRST AS A NIGERIAN AND THEN EDO STATE. Zik also refered himself as a Nigerian and later Igbo. |

IBIME: you are right. EZEAGU: That map is wrong. It did not include Igbo speaking areas of Rivers state. |
@Bigbranny. Please do not be confused between languages and dialects. Lots of what you pasted here are mere dialects of a language. For instance Egbema in Rivers state. What is the language of their kit and kins in Imo state?. The Awori, and Yagba are dialects of the Yoruba language. Also, Ukwani, Etche and Engenni are dialects of Igbo language. Why do people always regard mere dialects as languages?. |
Amy fiso I do not mean where you come from. Here on earth, you have an ethnicity and a country you belong to. Thus, do you see yourself first as Zulu and then South African and vise versa. Azikiwe saw himself first as a Nigerian, then Igbo while Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello saw themselves first as Yoruba and Hausa-Fulani. Nairalanders, how do you see your selves?. |
As I have always said and still maintain that the best way to catch age-cheats is by going to verify from their first day school enrolments. All over the world, childeren's first school enrolments are between five and six years. From this point, the their ages can be calculated. |
How do you see your self?.For example, do you see your self first as Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Kalabari, Tiv, Nupe, Kanuri, Ibibio, Edo etc before Nigerian or the other way round?. Nairalanders, please respond. |
Women do Iwa Akwa. I do have photographs of women participating in Iwa Akwa. I have tried so hard to download it here but all attempts prove abortive. Famous Iwa Akwa communities are as follows: Umuihi Amakohia Abueke Okwuohia Umuezeala nsu Umuakagu Nsu, Umunumu Nsu Umualuwaku Okwuohia |
I am a very good friend of the Yorubas. I am an authority in Yoruba worldview and hence, has helped a lot of Yoruba people realise whom they are. |
We did not loose any player we wanted, rather Terry, cole and Drogba signed extended contracts. |
In actuality, the Egun people are not yoruba. Their language is Egun which is similar to Ewe language spoken in Benin and parts of Togo. The Egun language is more 'eweid' than 'Yorubaid'. Some Egun people speak Yoruba just as Okrika people speak Igbo but are not Igbo. The Aworis claim early link with Benin, however, they are Yorubas in today's Nigerian context. |
In the memory of Iwa Akwa, women have been active participants and partakers in Iwa Akwa. They belong to the age grades and held key positions in the age groups. Shortly after the civil war, the role of women and participation waned. Since, the 90's, there have been rekindled interest in Iwa Akwa by women. Even those who are married, come home to participate in Iwa Akwa especially in Ihitte and Uboma areas of Etiti, Imo state. |
Iwa Akwa is celebrated in every community in Ihitte, Obowu and Uboma. |
Sheva has rejoined his old club today-Dynamo Kiev. Chelsea could not keep him because of his high wages. As for Af cup of Nations, De santo will be back in january as he is only on loan. Chelsea my love. |
Abuzola:The poster wants you to comment on M. Jackson's religion before his demise. So stop beating about the bush here. |
Ivory Coast officials gave credit to juju for their nations cup glory in Senegal 1992. Some few years ago, the then Ivorien Head of state-Guy Robert invited all those jujumen who did the otumokpu for the nation, and honoured all of them. |
God bless you Lopezdee1 |
Abuzola When someone comments about his 'peeing' on the koran you get upset. Yet on regular bases you abuse the holy bible. |
Daniel Amokachi is Idoma from Benue state. |
Dahiru Sadi was a legend at Abiola Babes F.C. |
