CultureRe: Your Most Cherished Nigerian Culture. by AndreUweh(m): 11:59pm On Jul 20, 2009
An aspect of Nigerian culture I cherish now is the South west traditional marks. Though in the past I did not admire it. With this marks, it is easier for me to identify people of the same nationality like me in the offices, shopping mauls, public gatherings e.t.c.

I lost the case before the landlady as she was a part of them. Nothwithstandingly, the whole episode afforded me with the opportunity of knowing other Nigerians in the huge building.
SportsRe: Nigeria Players To Be Age-Tested by AndreUweh(m): 6:47pm On Jul 20, 2009
FIFA should come up with another idea of catching age cheats not the MRI scan. Here in the UK, I work with England's largest NHS Trust in a medical field. As a consequence, I go through lots of MRI Scans on regular basis and the results are no where close to detecting peoples ages.

Aro -Obegu war of 1901 (at least in protectorate of Southern Nigeria)
According to Prof Ijoma, O. The Aro, being nervous of the massive preparation of the British to attack them, had warned areas in their trading network to desist from any action that might further British interest. The Obegu people would appear to have flouted the instructions, and the Aro sacked the town in November 1901 as an object lesson to other communities

The age grade system of the Okigwe South people of Imo state (Etiti and Ehime Mbano).
SportsRe: Nigeria Players To Be Age-Tested by AndreUweh(m): 8:30pm On Jul 19, 2009
According to Wikipedia, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), or Nuclear Magnetic resonance Imaging (NMRI), is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in radiology to visualize the internal structure and function of the body.
From the above definition, it will be difficult to give accurate ages of our eaglets using MRI. FIFA will not introduce it as it is not means to determine ages of people.
IMO, Birth Certificates should be used and where that is lacking, first day in primary school should be employed. Most pupils in Nigeria enrol into primary school at the age of five. From this avenue, we can determine the age of our players.
CultureRe: A Need To Change The Name Nigeria To Wazobia by AndreUweh(m): 8:57pm On Jul 16, 2009
The name of our country should remain NIGERIA. It does not matter if it was given to us by F. Lugard's partner or not. Great Britain was a name given to the Britons by the Romans. The Romans called it Grand Britanica, Grand Britannia which means the great wall. It has remained so till this day.
Change of name of a country does not bring a change in the attitude of people nor improve the lots of people. From Congo Leopoldville to Zaire and now to Congo DR. What has change of name of the country brought to the Congolese?.

For the second time, desist from insulting me or thers. You may write a rebuttal to any post that is false. No garagara. All the matured minds in this thread are not ready to descend to that level.

It will be a welcomed development for the people of Opobo and Amaigbo to unite culturally and socially. For example, the two communities can do do their boat regatta and Iri ji jointly. I think the legendary Jaja story should be the uniting factor here.
Second, it will be interesting for those interested in Opobo history to visit the tourist site of the birth place of King Jaja. I hope to be there in November.

Does this king see himself as Ijo?. The birth place of King Jaja exist till this day and has been converted into a tourist zone by the Imo state government. I think it is somewhere around Amaigbo. This is unlike that of Oprah.

Nwa ada di nma Osisi.
It has been a very debatable issue. Ijos claim him as well. There is no better person to testify his identity rather than the monarch him self. Hence, the event of Jan 24, 2009 at Owerri has swung the debate in favour of the Igbo.
CultureRe: Is It Rude To Speak Your Language Openly In Public? by AndreUweh(m): 4:43pm On Jul 15, 2009
In the UK, a lot of Britons hate ethnic languages or cultures. For example, when I play English music my neighbours feel it is 'cool' and often wanting to borrow the music. But when I play my Nigerian music, they report me to the landlady for making noises.
CultureRe: Can An Average Opobo Indigene Speak And Understand Ijaw? by AndreUweh(m): 3:54pm On Jul 15, 2009
It was so interesting seeing the current King Jaja of Opobo sitting with his fellow Igbo Monarchs at the last Ahiajoku festival at Owerri. He indeed told reporters how glad he was in being in the midst of his kins.
CultureRe: Ikwerre Names & Their Meanings by AndreUweh(m): 11:21pm On Jul 14, 2009
@naijabob, not all Ikwerre people disclaim Igbo. A lot of them are proud to be Igbo. At the World Igbo Congress in London, 1998, It was an Ikwerre man who was the chief speaker. His name is Wanodi Okogbule (RIP). I have a copy of his speech till date. He warned his Ikwerre kins not to deny Igbo anymore. A lot of Ikwerre people are playing prominent role in Ohanaeze and one of the vice presidents of Ohanaeze is an Ikwerre son.
Here in the UK, there are so many Ikwerre youths who are members of our Igbo Youths UK (ICSN).

In Opobo/Nkoro LGA, two languages are spoken. Nkoro people speak defaki while Opobo speak Igbo. Some Nkoro people understand and speak Igbo as well.

Mazi Abagworo.
Thanks for posting Sam's article here.
It is a pity Sam does not understand the Igbo boundaries and Igbo worldview. How on earth can he say that there are Ijaw tribes in Abia state. Why did he not say it. After their attempt to claim Igbo groups such as Ikwerre and Etche, they now want to close in on Abia state.
For his notice, Abia state do not share any border with Ijaw people. South of Abia state are the Omuma Etche and Ikwerre-all Igbo people.
Please kindly tell Sam to stop that MADNESS

The Cross River lawmakers are lucky the oil wells has not been handed over to Akwa Ibom yet. How about Egbema that was handed over to Rivers State from Imo state. Also Obigbo (Oyigbo) that was relocated to Rivers state from Abia state?.
CultureRe: Pictures Of Nigeria Traditional Attire by AndreUweh(m): 7:12pm On Jul 01, 2009
Please, African hats for African men. Those Hats are for the British and Americans. They took our people as slaves in exchange for those hats. Let us call a spade a spade, those hats reminds us of slavey and occupation by overlords.
Why are coastal people still wearing those hats?. Yoruba, Ewe, Twi Ga, etc on the coast of west Africa encountered imperialism yet they do not wear those hats. It is simply unafrican. But if coastal people insist on those slave-mentality hats, Ndigbo should desist from wearing it. Do Ndiigbo not have cultural hats?.
CultureRe: Pictures Of Nigeria Traditional Attire by AndreUweh(m): 8:11pm On Jun 30, 2009
Nice photographs. But it is high time people in the coastal areas drop those colonial hats. Slave trade and British imperialism are long long over, why do we still wear those hats that reminds us of mans inhumanity to man. There are few Igbo people who makes similar mistakes.

CultureRe: What Are Your People (Ethnicity) Known For? by AndreUweh(op): 10:54pm On Jun 28, 2009
Etiti is in Okigwe zone Imo state. In Etiti, two dialects of Igbo language are spoken namely Isu-spoken by Uboma clan and Obowu spoken by Obowu and Ihitte. The Isu dialect is similar to Okigwe dialect while Obowu is similar to Mbaise dialect. That may explain our ancestry but work is going on in that field.
Our foremost secondary schools are Community secondary school Onicha Uboma established 1960, community secondary school Ikenanzizi established 1962 and Madonna boys high school Isinweke established 1955 now Imo senior secondary science school.
Is there any person from Etiti in the house. What about other Nigerian peoples?.

Hello Nairalanders, if you adore and cherish your people's way of life, do not feel shy to write about it here. I know that remarkable cultural traits can be found in your native areas. Mbano people, where are you with Anara day, Mbaise;oji Ezinihitte, Arondizuogu-Ikeji, Onitsha-Ofala etc.
If you are a son of the soil and proud of your people, comment a little here about them.

Achebe is not interested in nobel laurete award. They know he will humiliate them if they offer him one. Ask Obasanjo what Achebe did with him.
Ajisafe, you know deep down in your mind that Achebe ranks first before your brother Wole. Yet you will not admit it.
