Covert1: Won't take your bait. You won't know who I am. But don't tell me about soldiery. Clearly it's self evident you are the average soldier. I need only challenge you to a 6km run and shame you with the girls. Pls rest this matter.
Our training is significantly different than yours which is why we are the go to people to get the hard job done in Africa. I am in the Navy so yeah beating me in a run is not that big a deal. you where found wanting in Mali by France who prefer Chad. |

Covert1: We have seen other nations including the US they so much worship in Nigeria haze some of their most effective units. They think warfare is andrewza's South Africa whose soldiers have not withstood any recent credible small unit tactical offensive. That's the intelligence. We are not dummies sitting in Abuja and enjoying it's beauty. We do our job.
Dear, don't mind saboteurs with inferiority complex. The sad thing is they don't even know it. People are incognito on Nairaland else some of them won't even show face. This is worse than low self-esteem. They are sheer disgrace to Nigerianness (my word) and cowards of the highest order. you really need to fact check. |

Wait make one South Sudanese soldier catch you or a former RUF rebel in Monrovia or Boko show up walahi you go beg for that drilling. you really want to go there, you wont like where it leads |

I have said before it is punshment and while Nigerian Army does punshment we do some thing called Corrective Training. I did a similar exersize In a class room because I fell a asleep. I still had to answer questions. |

Covert1: If it's not I gave you an offer pls take it up and post the pic. Attempt that stress position for just 1hr and u'd stop this joke.
Besides that's nothing compared to the more difficult aspects of our training regime in Nigeria which costs millions of dollars to produce a single soldier. The Nigerian soldier is a complete soldier and the best Africa has to offer. Though very very rare and hard to capture a Nigerian Soldier, Airman or Naval serviceman we have seen vids of one or two captured Nigerian servicemen in all our years of brutal combat and how brave they performed under duress even up to death without compromising our devotion to the code. This is a known.
When u have proof of such in modern times from yonder then come back and attempt reason else remain silent. Done it. As I said it not the worst yest it the one bragged about the most. It does not strengthen muscles or do a y thing for you. Now as I said leopard crawl 1000m then fire man carry for 1000m back. You not solder and have never done basic training. These punishments make you go wow but truth fully any really solder knows there are far worse things. Hell one 1 instructor can make people collapse simply from normal drills going non stop. |

pacretus: When u're through spending 5 hours in that position ,depending on the love they have for you, your hit track would be kumbaya. So you proud that you waist 5 hours that could of been spent doing physical training or learning just making your recruits tired? I mean sure I have done all night and morning g training, route marches and opfok but even then you still learning even if it is just learning how to keep motivated. |

Covert1: War is not a picnic to us in Nigeria. We have a history of military success behind us and it came by soldiers who fought under the most bitter circumstances and won. Yes we have bragging rights. That pic is an old pic just like many others and when soldiers survive beyond human training sure they'd make pics or vid and brag about it. They are no longer only humans but instruments of violence. the fact you think that is grueling is funny |

In real life punishment doesn't equate toughness. So as skills equate professionalism. That same drill is done here. It not bragged about since it really nothing special. My issue was these types of pics all ways pop up from Nigeria. Like they bragging about it. |

Not a good idea to dare crack-heads like that -- A Nigerian Army past time which we have passed on to friendly effective armies on the continent. frumentius: I'm wary of passing judgement until the full story emerges. Remember Seleka claims of 40 Saffers killed? What I've been told is that the Yanks operated with outdated intelligence, just like we did in Bangui. Other accounts I've heard say they pursued a few rebels on motor-cycles who gapped it across the border to Mali. These then came back with re-inforcements and ambushed them on their way out of Tongo-Tongo village.
But yes, it sounds like that patrol was criminally under-armed. The first shots of the Battle of Bangui involved a somewhat similar L-shaped ambush on 2 Land Cruisers with extra ammo trailers and 2 Hornets with MLRS trailers of the Recces. Difference being Hornet is far heavier armed even while carrying 8 men. 30 Recces so armed were able to fight their way out of that ambush by an estimated 200 rebels.
A dozen Recces on only the Land Cruisers would not. And that's what the Yanks had to contend with.
The more crucial question for me is why it took an hour into the fire-fight before they radioed the French for CAS, especially as they knew it'd take the frogs another hour to reach them. Possible that they did not have a direct line to the French. They had to call HQ, HQ then calls the HQ in Mali who then call the nearest QRF for the mission in Mali who then scramble. The guys on the ground may of wanted support long before that but it was delayed. Same thing happened in Somalia US forces need support from the UN forces who where not told told of the mission there for where not ready. I would not be supprised one bit if the French had zero heads up and there was no direct line. Hell maybe the US HQ had to look up the number for the Mali HQ. |

Covert1: Writing falsehood from your bedroom is hardly enthusing. Your account does not reflect reality on the ground. Except for the skies the Taliban physically control two thirds of Afghanistan and the ANA and NATO Coalition has no established presence in those areas. Neither does the talbian have established presence other than in a few slither of land. |

nemesis4u: as for honor , warriors code , invincible warriors , graveyard of empires etc these r fit for bed time stories
fact is bravery honor etc r hallmark of individuals only and cannot be extended to tribes , clans or nations .
writers earn their keep with their vivid imaginations and one cant blame them
individuals from any nation united with individual traits like loyalty , patriotism etc will give a bloody mouth to anybody
anyways enjoy this real life story
http://www.badassoftheweek.com/21sikhs.html
When 21 Sikhs Faced Over 10,000 Pashtuns at Saragarhi- i guess on that fateful day pushtun warrior spirit took a nice beating
my point being a individual if driven to the brink will give a bad day to any badass , it does not matter whats his race his color his tribe his nationality etc.
one must believe in oneself and not get confined to ones tribe color race nationality and nor should believe/propagate in such IMO. A lot of units and even nations have fought against insane odds but most don't even know about it. Look up the winter war in Finland and you will see one of the most lob sided foces of nearly a million men unable to defeat 250 000. Though for a proud group have the honor weakened look at the battle of winza. 710 polish Infantry VS 40000 German solders with 350 tanks. The held for 3 days only 40 polish solders surrendered after running out of ammo and 40 escaped after running g out of ammo. The polish commander said the fort would not surrender while he was a Alive. So he killed him self after ordering the surrender. Out side of Poland he is not even known but he stopped the might of the German panzer force with 6 anti tank guns and 2 anti tank rifles. Last person is known really o lyrics in Korea and Japan. Admiral yi sun-sin. When his fleet of 13 ships was attacked by 130 war ships and 200 transport ships he did not run he attacked. He sunk 30 enemy ships, killed half there army, killed there commander, caused them to flee and he lost 10, not 10 ships but 10 sailors. People win wars far more than guns |

Covert1: Everyone knows the fact. The Taliban control two thirds of Afghanistan. I can't comprehend your aim when everyone knows the truth in black and white. Even the US Generals know how this would end. The Afghan warrior devotion to the code is absolute. It has been so for thousands of years. Religion is just a cover. It is a stain on the honor of the Pashtun tribesman to live under occupation under whatever guise. Now you know who will win even if it takes another one thousand years. Control? They may operate in two thirds of the country but they don't control it. Control means any time a out side force enters it gets attacked. The ISAF sends patrols regularly all over looking for talbian to shoot. Most talbian just dump a Mag and run away killing no one. |

jakeporeshenko: 16 years of combat operations common mate. The war in Afghanistan is a total failure, the Taliban still controls territory and the US and it’s allies are desperately trying to withdraw with any dignity they have left.
At least the UK is training young competent officers at a wonderful institute in Kabul. Talbian is being whittled down the only reason they still a issue is that they can hide in the Pakistan tribal region out of reach by all but drone strikes. |

patches689: Not true, its the same old thing as Veitnam m8.
Just as the military gets things stabilized and has the upper-hand, the politicians see the opportunity to withdraw.
Trump's re-commitment to Afghan and the deployment of additional troops was a smart move - just give it time. Since the announcement - and the implication that the US is prepared to stay another 4-8 years - moderate voices in the Taliban have started saying they may be prepared to approach the negotiation table.
Obama fvcked it all up when he announced a withdrawal timetable - Taliban knew all they had to do was survive until withdrawal was complete. I have no idea why people love that guy, he is surely one of the most inept statesmen the US has ever produced... I guess its because he made pretty speeches.
Allmost the exact same things happened in Veitnam and Iraq. Iraq was relatively stable when the USA pulled out Syria and the Arab spring caused major issues but that was not some thing one could for see |

Not sure if the AESA radar from Saab is going to be purchased but South Africa as a lot of radar covarge. Air force has fixed and mobile long range and medium range radar systems, army has there own for Anti air guns and then the navy has there own on there ships and then combined with civilian government radar are all linked to get her meaning any radar screen with a Data link can see contacts while North of the border.
