Missy89:I never said if Russians stop going to Turkey, it would kill the Tourism sector there, but would have significant impact on it's overall output and input into the economy, on the ground that it accounts for over 2.1 million jobs. Moreover, this is never going to be limited to the Russians alone. If the Turkey resentment fever is so high down here in Africa, (primarily because of the Russian anti ISIS campaign), i wonder how it would be even among Europeans who are still suffocating under the influx of Syrian refugees, and are increasingly seeing Turkey as part of the wider problem. On this note, i am not wrong. The Turks have much to lose here than whatever additional cost individual Russians will have to pay for alternative tours. Infact, Isreal is already courting Russian tourist, and just as some Russians have put it, '' there are certain things more important than open beaches and and sun-baking ''. Thats the Russian strong will and collectivism for you. This is further underlined by the peoples reaction at home, following the downing, and no amount of additional cost (if any) would stop them. Yeah, they eventually found market for their products, yet the likes of slovenia, Greece, Italy, and German industrial lobbyist now holding Merkel on the neck, wants an end to the tit for tat sanction wars. Even some of the markets they have discovered are proving insufficient to offset the loss incurred by absence of the Russian market, due to serious competition and government policies of the host markets. But you dont need propaganda to see that Turkey is involve in shady deals with ISIS. Even the Iranians have been saying it long before the Russians came out with it. The motive is there for all to see. Journalist were being harassed and jailed for exposing the truth. Footage of IS tankers lined up with crude is readily made available, even by the US. Now let common sense do the thinking here: where else could those tankers pass through in the northern plain, if not through Turkey? Even among the US house of congress, some members knew that Turkey is in bed with IS, and the Turkish opposition is compiling evidence to prove their points. Even some die hard western anti Putin media bodies are chanting the same mantra here. The fact is, there are some truth you cant keep under the carpet no matter how you try, and this is just one of them. I dont think Russia was indifferently sitting on evidence until their plane got shot. In fact, Putin have said before now that 40 countries are involved in the dealing, and that some of the G20 members are involved. Well, now we have gotten to know one. If Putin have said earlier that so and so are dealing with ISIS, who would have believe him? Be truthful. Not forgeting that Russia was enjoying good relations with Turkey before now. But the evidence dont lie! The evidence based on ascertained motive will always bring out the truth, and it has been proved over and over again, Turkey is ISIS Partner in crime as far as oil is involve. |

@Missy89, Russia is already responding,(unless you are like them kids down here expecting Kremlin rain of missiles on Ankara, which i doubt you are) and contrary to your views, Erdogan has a whole lot to lose out on, both personally and nationally. His popularity back home is already dwindly. The death of one journalist and the arrest of two others charged for espionage for revealing the truth about the ISIS and Turkey shady oil deals, further create resentment both from home and abroad. Also, the arrest and prosecution for treason of two generals who dare to intercept a convoy of Erdogan's '' goodwill '' bound for Syria, is a clear indication of visible cracks now appearing even in his inner circle. All these happening in the afthermath of the downed Su24. And now that Syria and Russia, with the blessing of France, is moving to seal off the Syrian side of the border with Turkey, his Turkmen and other proxies will now have to be at the mercy of Syrian ground troops and Russian air power: and to make matters worse, he cant even fly his planes anymore for obvious reasons. So tell me, is all these not amounting to a collosal loss? Again, on the national side, contrary to your view, the Russian response will definitly slow down the Tourism sector, but it may also likely affect the overall performance of the Turkish economy. Yes, it will have considerable impact. This is because, tourism accounts for over 2.1 million jobs in Turkey, employing more than other sectors like the chemical. Authomobile, manufacturing industries. Russian tourist alone accounts for 12-18% of this, with over 3.4 million visits last year. But the real danger here is that, where ever exist an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear, people tends to avoid such places for fear of the unknown, like the last month blast that killed over a hundred in a rally in the same Turkey: and now that the notion of Russia's unpredictability have join the queue of the unknown tomorow, coupled with the glaring fact that alot of people accross the globe (europe in particular) are emotionally and naturally supporting the Russian anti-IS mission in Syria, it is vividly clear that it will never be the Russians alone that would stop coming to Turkey for holidays. This is the point some people seem to negate in their lobsided analysis. One only need to see what is happening to Egypt now, not to mention that Erdogan's highhandedness and staunch posture as an islamic overlord, is further killing Turkey's image. The lira has already taken a dive, amidst growing anti-Erdogan's sentiments back home, and if over 3.4 million doesnt mean anything to the man, he probably have to see a psychiatrist, because it meant a whole lot to the economy. Now you can understand why the man wants to get things right with Putin, but his '' strongman ego '' wont let him do the right thing--apologise and move forward. Additional cost as in how? The sanctions didnt affect gas supply and other contractual obligations for obvious reasons like you rightly noted: Egypt is already lining up to replace Turkey for Russia's fruites and vegetable needs, and Greece would easily fill the destination void left by Turkey, and that is if the option of Cuba and China is not prefered readily. As for Turkey, finding a market for their products would prove to be a difficult task. It is easy to find sellers, but its not always easy to find buyers. They can ask the Irish, French and Polish farmers who could not find buyers for their products following a similar case. Which propaganda? That Turkey is accessory to ISIS oil theft or what? Even Steven Wonders knew Turkey is aiding and abeting ISIS oil criminality. Even the US is increasingly finding it hard to cover. Where is the inflamatory propaganda in all this? The reality is that, Erdogan had fired an air to air missile against himself in toto, and against Turkey in considerable terms. He has started a battle he can not win nor afford to lose. He is caught in the middle! And no! I don't believe that Uncle Sam has fled the Syrian Skies, nor in thousands of troops being moved to the border. But one thing i do believe in is that, the Syrian airspace is now a forbidden taboo for Turkey, unless they reach certain compromise with the Russians and Syrian government. 3 Likes 1 Share |

If you understand the Russians like i suppose you do, then you should know that they are, like the hyena, perfectly waiting for the opportunity to present itself, but the Turks must have anticipated this, hence, the complete grounding of all their flights into Syria, following the S400 deployment. The truth is, as far as Syria is concerned, Erdogan has more to lose than any other side in the conflict. It's shipments of weapons and men to it's proxies in Syria, continued to be bombed, the Turkmen are now under heavy bombardment both from Syrian ground and Russian airforces, and it can no longer fly missions into Syria, while back home, trouble is blewing even among his own military ranks: the recent treatment meted out to journalist further create more resentment and excuses for some European nations like France, Germany and Greece, that opposes Turkey's acession into the EU. The downing of the Su24 has completely exposed and undone Erdogan, not withstanding the NATO rhetorical stance (which is more of a feigned show of solidarity), little wonder the man is so desperate to sort things out with Putin. And as the evil house tries hard to cloak it's illicit and criminal acts in Syria, adrenaline is taking a toll on it's desperation to maintain his own narative by taking on the media - one journalist is now dead, and two others already arrested and charged for revealing Turkey's involvement with ISiS and its oil deals - further getting itself despised and loathed by many. Missy89:In international relations, you judge a nation by every single act of commission or omission in line with the degree of responsiveness based on acceptable standards and norms guiding international relations and diplomacy. The fact Isreal behaved in a manner that reflect the expected pattern of behavior acceptable in the international community, does not necessarily mean she is consistently responsible. You have to gauge that based on previous behavior in similar situations or other scenarios. For instance, one can hardly say Isreal has been behaving responsibly towards Palestine and the West Bank, and we all know why. But as far as this case is concern, one can say she acted responsibly. Or do you want me to say it was because of the S400? |

When Isreal did a bigger one by attacking an American war ship, the Liberty, that killed dozens and wounded many more, what did the US do? They didnt go to war. Rather, they tried to cover it. Regarding Syria, the way Putin has handled the issue so far, is commendable, though it hasnt ruled out a retaliation in kind, and This much Turkey understands hence the suspention of all flights into Syria. |

Shymm3x:Grounding is an understatement. The Turkish military is now shifting intention by saying that they never knew the plane was Russian. Why are they now changing seats? The fear of S400 is the begining of wisdom to Turkey. Their free forey into the Syrian airspace is practically over, hence, the grounding. More shite is coming. |
