I just pity the future of Nigerian Breeding standards. See you talking of hybrids, do you have any idea on what it entails? Are you Gregor Mendel or Charles Darwin? This is the only part of the world where we do wrong things and still want to justify our wrongs. And if I may ask, what aim where you seeking to accomplish with your "breed hybridization", what previous knowledge have you had in this study? Or you think its about waking up one day and just concluding you wanna mate your Samoyed with your bull mastiff?...

If you wanna be the next father of genetics, I see no problem in your battle for ambition. If your intent was to see what comes out of the combo, why not just retain all of them. There's no crime in trying out new things, but not at the detriment of others...

There was this news about GSDs crushing on a kid's skull in the Igando part of lag some weeks back. If we were to trace the bloodline of those GSDs, we would find out they have funny genes which can be traced to practices of people like you who think they wanna try out new things and they end up ruining certain breed standards and producing canines with unstable temperaments.

Truth be told, we need to frown on these practices!!!

You're welcome bro...Yea i'm a breeder and a pet lover...Been into dogs since I was 10...I can't remember being away from dogs for more than 2 weeks at a go. Even during those days back at school, I went with one of them just for company...I like trying out new things too but not at the detriment of certain standard. All the best bro.

The things guys do for love but I believe he has his reasons. If you don't know him personally, don't judge him. You might see it as stupidity, but the guy might have his reasons for doing such. There might be several circumstances surrounding their r/ship.

What exactly was your reason for such combo? So what breed should we call this combo? Bull rottie? Did you take time to imagine what traits the offsprings will posses? Not criticizing you o, I just want to open your eyes to some things...Think of it this way, do you know you just introduced a crossbred into life and until this entire lineage is wiped out, that particular "impurity" you introduced will keep being replicated. This situation has caused havoc in so many lives, you buy a Lhasa with pitbull traits, a rotweiller with basenji traits, a german shepherd with mongrel traits, a Samoyed with ridgebacks etc. All these mishaps could be traced back to such breeding blunders you just commited.

If you had crossed your bitch with a pedigree rottie, and every product of this lineage crossed back into the rottie line, a time will come when the rottie gene will be dominant in future offsprings, although there might be behavioural alterations in some.

I implore every breeder and pet handler to frown on cross breeding. You could have asked for advice here before mating the bitch. Anyway, the deed is done, just note these points for future purposes. Please don't take this personal, just thot we could learn from each other.

Hello breeders, what has been the surest sign of pregnancy in your dog? Mine is a mucoid discharge from the v at week 4. Let's hear yours...

That's a sure sign...This particular discharge occurs twice before delivery. At 4 weeks and at about 7 weeks into pregnancy, one has to be observant to notice this though.

Another sign which I developed is that I lay the bitch face-up, this position causes the developing foetus to want to adjust to that position and in the course of that, you notice some weird movement within the belly. You also need to be very observant to notice this too.

Also in this same position, run your fingers through the valley, that's in-between the bre@$t, the distance extending from the lower belly thru the chest. You'll notice the structure of the developing embryo...

There are several other extreme means which I won't discuss cos I don't want people experimenting and end up hurting their dogs.

But above all, the most effective means are the clinical and laboratory means, which involves palpation, hormonal essay, etc...But then, who go spend that much time and money ontop an average breed just to know if its pregnant or not? People prefer to assume their bitch is pregnant, they make plans ahead of the due delivery date, not considering a probe into the real case...I used to know a friend many years ago, he mated his Boerboel, and a few weeks to the due date, people began depositing for the pups because they know him for the quality of boerboels he breeds. This guy spent the whole lot on a personal project, the sad thing is that the bitch ended up giving birth to just one pup. I told him he is lucky, what if she hadn't given birth to any?

My point here is this...I wish the state of Naija's VET CARE could be improved, this would really help in a lot of ways.

That's a cute pup you have there? Is that leash I see on her? Please I don't think she needs to be on leash at this age especially with a kid around her, you wouldn't want to risk strangulation on the pup's part.

Also, that's not a Chihuahua, its either a Lhasa apso or a Samoyed. Not that both breeds ain't good, but truth be told. As a matter of fact, I would choose a Lhasa over Chihuahua anyday anytime, Chihuahuas ain't so common over here in Nigeria and as a starter, i'll advice you start with a common breed cos stocks like the Chihuahuas need experience hands. I own a Lhasa too, she's the only pet I've ever owned that can stand on her hind legs for more than 30 secs on the go.

That should be enough to buy a low quality leash. Use that money to buy the leash first, keep the leash till you can afford to buy and cater for a dog. Or betterstill, you can buy a portrait of a dog and hang it in your room, its almost the same as owning a dog.

I bought the dog from a Lebanese colleague in the office.
upon further inquiry, I was convinced that the dogs are gsd aside goggle search and visit to the Veterinary Doctor who does treatment for him.
in fact, i was taken to see the first owner of the sire which happen to be in her third generation.
The stud was imported from France during his holiday visit which i am aware of.

i also attached picture of my mongrel (jackie) for you to compare.

@Arcbay please advance your knowledge, not all gsd are black and tan or slant back.

Firstly, I don't recall saying anything that only black and tan GSDs are pure bred.

Secondly, you said you were taken to the vet doctor who treats the sire of the pup and he confirmed that the sire is pure bred...Are you this gullible? What were you expecting the vet to say? You expected him to say the pup ain't pure right in front of the client?
also, I wonder why you keep emphasizing on the "Lebanese guy" issue. Does being Lebanese make his dogs pure? Is that your criteria for judgment.

Finally, I want you to know I only offered my advice in my previous post and meant no harm. My prayer for every breeder and pet-handler is that WE WILL ALL MEET AT THE TOP. My prayer is that one day other countries can look up to Naija in terms of breed standards and quality. I don't want you to see it as if i'm criticizing your pups. If I did, t'was just to make you work for the best.

Anyways, I still stand by the bet...IN 2 MONTHS TIME, I'M GONNA ASK YOU TO POST THEIR PICTURES. Please be a perfect gentleman and upload the pictures whenever I ask of them. I want every NLder to see what your so-called pure-bred pups will turn into.

Take no offense mate...but that bitch is more of a GSD than a Caucasian...You would have been better off mating her with a GSD from good pedigree than mating her with a cauc. But the deed is done....what i'll advice now is this, when your bitch litters, please sell off all the pups, reserve some dough for some overhead cost that might accrue on the long run, but above all use the major part of the dough to get a pure bloodline of a particular breed. Start with that, let people know you for quality, let your name speak ahead of you...I'll advice you don't mate that bitch on every subsequent heat periods cos you'll only end up adding up to the population of impure dogs.

No Hard feelings bro...It's always difficult accepting the truth especially when we are the victim...Mark this date, I will re-call this thread exactly 2months from now, asking for the recent pics of those pups of yours, I just hope you can be a perfect gentleman and post pictures by then, just so others can learn from the situation.

I'm not saying I know it all, as a matter of fact no one is an island, but I must point this out...I've spent all my life around dogs, that I can tell what a pup will grow up to become, by just studying the features from birth. I'm sure most breeders and pet owners in here share this view too...
It's only a matter of time, I hope you don't end up feeling bad about the pups you bought...Pups are perfect companions, just give them the love and attention they deserve and watch them grow, but one thing you should note is that they ain't good for breeding...
