STUD: Black and Tan GSD BITCH: Long Haired Gold GSD PURPOSE: A Pure strain of long Haired Slant back Gold GSD (Through repeated breeding and selective breeding) METHODOLOGY: A stock breed from the first filia generation will be bred back into the bloodline of the gold slants, with the aim of picking a stock breed from every subsequent generation and breeding them back into the gold slant bloodlines.... AIM: A time will come when the Gold Slant will be all dominant over the Traditional black and tan coat. This implies that every litter that comes after this will appear GOLD Slanted...(PURPOSE ACHIEVED) WHAT PROMPTED THIS: I've been on GSDs for decades now, but just only once have I come across a GOLD SLANT with the ability of reproducing an all-Gold Offsprings...It's also coupled with the idea of "wanting to try out new things"... Please pals, all ideas are welcome, i'll particularly appreciate all criticisms as this will help me work on the motives and materials of this project...

Good morning fellow dog lovers and breeders alike...Been thinking of building a thread like this for long, just so we can learn from each other...I got thinking recently, especially on the errors people make in choosing a wrong breeding program, all in the name of trying out new things...Yea I agree, it's nice to try out new things but not at the detriment of certain standards...Just recently, someone here on NL mated a bullmastiff with a rottie, practices like this must be frowned upon cos it adds no value to our breeding standard here in Nigeria...Most people don't see any harm in such practices, that's because they are not aware of the long term implications attached to them. I believe YOU and I can change the system!!! I implore all breeders and pet owners to please share their programs here so we can learn from each other... It should include: PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM METHODOLOGIES AIMS PROPOSED DURATION ETC |

The public is not dumb no doubt, but please portray ur dogs for who they are and not what they're not... You don't have to play all formal in here to appear genuine... None of those breeds suits u... Your best bet is a lhasa apso. They're good around kids, and considering the fact that u have a suckling, getting a pet dog is one u should consider. |

Even a Mongrel will look good with all those graphics and picture quality, don't u think? All I ask is for him to paint a true picture of the dogs so buyers can accept them for who they are and not for what they are not... He can put up all the formalty on his website or blog, no one would bother about that cos he owns his space, This is NL!!!! |

The simple reason Nigeria still remains in shackles...We tend to overlook our weaknesses and go looking for what's not lost...Constructive criticisms and feedback on performances are efficient tools for working on oneself and being a better person but I reckon no one likes to be corrected...We tend to take a liking to people who nurse our ego...Anyways, it's all good!!! 1 Like 1 Share |

Apitch:Just passing by...Wouldn't have commented, but thought I should correct you on this statement you just made...No breeder goes into breeding for which the sole aim is profit motivated...This is NL pet section where any blunder u make as regards pet stuffs create a big issue...Your thread clearly shows that u have no genuine likeness for dogs, u got a pup to have a return on investment...It might surprise you, but u should know ur dogs can sense your intentions. I've seen a lot of people like you who wanna make a fortune out of their pet and the pet will end up not giving birth at all or probably pay you back in your own coin... And to everyone in here...We should try decipher the difference between being a breeder, a pet handler, pet lover and a pet owner...All synonymous but different meanings and mode of operation... If you are here, you bought a pet and produced one or two litters through her and you claim to be a breeder, mehn you're jonsing yourself, breeder for ur mind!!! And to address the issues about a pet owner mating his pet, there's no crime in that...as long as you don't try convince the public afterwards about who you are like coming back here to post "pedigree DOGS for sale"...Pedigree for where? Ever heard anything on traceability and retention? Spaying and neutering? I think experts in here should open up a thread on the rules and laws surrounding that... A pet owner who has produced little or no litters before claiming his pups are Pedigree!!! I fear for the future of our breeding standard. |

I once had a boerboel puppy, Duke by name...I sold him sometimes ago to a fellow Nairalander...He grew up exclusively indoors, my laundry basket used to be his bed...At 4weeks, I took him out into the compound on regular intervals to pee. Each time I drop him in my lil' garden, he understands I wanted him to pee and poo, so he does... As time passed by, I didn't take him out anymore, anytime he feels he needs to pee or poo, all he does was to sit and focus his gaze on me. Upon sighting him, I knew he needed to pee... So in essence, dog training shouldn't be coercive, especially the fundamental aspects...You can instill a life-long command into a dog without these extreme measures...Don't see training as something you wanna achieve in a day, you need to make an habit out of it...Talk to your dogs like they're human, read their emotions, sense their distress and build that unflinching love with them... I can commune with my dogs without saying a word and they understand me perfectly well....All I need do is some facial expressions, body language etc... It's all fun...Don't see training as something difficult to achieve. You don't need to get learned in the profession to achieve all these...Start Today!!! 1 Like 2 Shares |

On a more serious note now, I hate saying the same things over and over again...This particular issue has been addressed on several threads here on NL pets... Anyways, let's deal...so we can all learn and grow together. I don't really believe in "coercive training", which involves the use of commands to dogs; STAND! SIT!! CATCH!!! Don't treat your pets like they are some sort of slaves. At some point, they tend to forget or mix up these command prompts. The easiest method is "persuasive training" where the only thing it needs is building a chemistry with your pets. A dog is like a growing kid who have every tendency to learn from their leads. Do you know dogs actually read minds? But u need to bridge the communication gap in order to realize this natural gift of theirs, build a connection between your mind and theirs, read into their sub-.conscious...I never chose any particular method in training my dogs any of these social attribute, it happened naturally... I can leave my dogs indoors and leave a plate of chicken on the table, and i'll be rest assured that even if I go for 2hrs, i'll meet the plate of food untouched...All I need do is give them a warning look and an occasional "don't go there, its mine"....They tend to read me even without saying a word. This is the point where I support smileysmiles' opinion on the use of body language but all these cuts down to the chemistry thingy... Now the question is this, How do you build a chemistry between you and your dogs? I'll ask you this, when was the last time you fed your dogs from your hands? For those who give pet tabs and dog supplements, do you open up their mouths to insert the tabs or you just put it in their food? Have you ever slept in the same bed with your dog? All these things build bonds but most people don't know, they believe its all about keeping dogs locked up in cages and kennels... You might think i'm weird but could you believe I actually take baths with my dogs, they've seen me nude on several occasions...When I eat, they all sit around me, they wont even give me a second glance cos they've been trained not to stare...All these things builds bonds. They see themselves as a part of me, they understand my moods, they learn through love and not thru pain.... I can go on and on... but i'll rather not bore you with my talks... 2 Likes 1 Share |

As for ur friends... Their case is similar to a long church service, u open up a wrap of cookies noisily, everyone looks at you horribly like you are some sort of demon, but deep down they wish it was them eating those cookies.
