Parochial narrow minded youths will also not know that Nigeria really has no comparative advantage in production of rice. We will still need yo import about 50% of rice even when we produce, or do you think rice can be planted all over Nigeria because it is big.

There are other products we have comparative advantage of and we are not talking about them or even trying yo take advantage of the advantage we have. Cassava, cashew, millet, Cocoa, sesame seed, Sorghum, even yam etc are products we can use to earn huge foreign exchange but because we CONSUME rice that we don't really produce then we can close border for it.

Closed border, even those that want to export/import other products are caught up and its only rice we talking about.
It remains shut so you can do your worst, we don't care about Ghanaians and smugglers

I hope when the border is eventually opened it would not be business as usual. Rice that is now 28k will not come down or probably come down to 16k which was what it was before the closure and all we would have achieved was to just punish ourselves.

As the borders have been closed what has been the measures taken to help sustain ourselves as a nation?

Useless govt, always doing the right things the wrong way and then complicating the already dire situation for ordinary citizens because of lack of clear cut assessment of the situation by incompetent people who lack capacity to think through a situation or scenario thoroughly.

Hope the only thing we will gain in all this is not the self bloated ego that when we closed our borders neighbouring countries were adversely affected.
By their posts, you shall know smugglers

Another thread for 180 million people to masturbate on. Not some technological innovation, or some breakthrough in science but a mere border closure.

A situation that requires tact to fish out the main culprits and u simply make a decision that encompasses all, even the innocent. It's only in black Africa that this calls for celebration, especially if there's nothing else to celebrate. SMH.

what I have been saying , industrialization is the way not agriculture practice like the days of Noah and mosses. You just don't declare you are capable of feeding the whole nation becuse one governor somewhere says he has acquired over 2000 hectares of land and prepared farmers to work on the rice plantation. what if all rice end up with pest destruction. Nigeria needs to think like a smart country, No one close border in 21 century except for war or disease alert .....

Nigeria make una think
See them advisers, instead of going to lecture the Ghanaian government about mechanised rice farming, you're still fixated on Nigeria opening her borders. Why can't you produce same rice and export to Nigeria since maybe you already have excess rice and mechanised rice farming?

You still do not get it, probably you don't understand economics or you are not a business man. Even if you are a businessman, you are probably a trader.

Machines are very expensive and require huge capital investments. My friend that into rice processing tells me he needs a rice sorter to separate the coloured rice from the white ones, as pure white rice has high value. He said the machine alone cost N8 million from Europe. Now if he borrows N8 million from bank at 25%, how can he pay back principal and interest if he has to contend with cheap smuggled rice?

Accessing government loans is a herculean task and government only provide loans for small scale farmers. Rice processing machines are extremely expensive. The full rice processing machines like boiler, dehusking machine, dryer, destoning machine, polishing machine and sorting machine costs tens of millions each.

In manufacturing and productions, recouping of investment and repayment of loans in the short possible time is the goal. After that goal have been met, the manufacturer reduce price to only reflect running and maintenance costs.

If cheap foreign alternative is available, local industries can never take off. China itself banned imports for 40 years to allow local manufacturers to germinate and expand, even now China strictly regulates imports. (This is one of the beef Trump has with china).
Allow that my Ghanaian friend be, he's not been happy since the closure and always trying to lecture Nigeria and Nigerians, why can't he be lecturing his home country about mechanised rice farming?

These leeching ECOWAS countries are not interested in that, they prefer the billions they make to our being self sufficient.

You guys are evil,a company that has been in operation for years all of a sudden u are bringing buhari into it.Was it buhari that gave them money to start the company?
For your information,no one is begging government to come and patronize them, government can go outside the country and buy.It will not make the company not to prosper. The government doesn't have any choice,if the company is producing a quality product and well known, the government doesn't have any choice than to buy from them like every other Nigerians are buying.Dont sound as if buhari is doing them a favor!.With or without government,it doesn't change nada.Obi family is not a hungry family, rather they are creating employment for government and Nigerian citizens not the other way round.
I don't blame you because you are not the owner of the company and neither do you work there, companies and factories all over the world lobby for government patronage and see what you're saying.
If the government had gone for imported, people like you would cry marginalization, government decides to patronise, no appreciation.

Good enough the owner of the company doesn't reason the way you do

Sometimes I laugh at those Igbos who deny their heritage just for a plate of porridge. In Delta, the other tribes refer to the Anioma people as Igbos. In Rivers, the Ijaws call the ikwerris Igbo people. When their eyes will be open it would be so clear that they would start seeing ghosts.

This is Mai-Adua border, I know the town very well, because I worked in Mai-Adua Technical college as a contractor under Gaskiya Welding and Fabrication works, so I know Mai-Adua town very well.

Mai-Adua is not too far from Daura Buhari's home town, infact people use to take bicycle from Daura to Mai-Adua, because it is not too far, some times because many of our people has not been to the core north, when we try to tell them that Nigeria is not one, they find it difficult to believe.

Look at this picture, is it possible for we the Yorubas, Igbos, to line up like this from Benin Republic, or Abijan to Nigeria? We all know that it is not possible, because the Cabal Custom will kill almost all the Okada riders.

But look at these, this is Mai-Adua a neighbouring town of Daura, Buhari's home town, in Mai-Adua's merket they spend two types of money (currency) Nigerian's currency, and Niger's currency.

But here in the Souths, we all know that something like that is never possible, because we are under the siege of our slave masters from a very long time, the unfortunate thing is that most of my Yoruba brothers and sisters don't want to be free, some because of Religion, some because of Politics, some because of the fear of the Oligashi, the strange Cabals.

If the terrorists family goverment tells you that they are closing borders, you should know that it is the borders in the Souths, the borders are, (1) Idiroko/Seme borders in Lagos state, (2) Cross Rivers State, (3) Chikanda border, Kwara State, (4) Shaki border, Oyo State, (5) Borders in Ogun State.

This are the borders they mounts presures on to make the none-terrorists poor, so that terrorists from the northern part of Nigeria can be more richer than us, and the reason for this is to take over Nigeria systematically, because they know that a poor tribe have no say in the presence of the rich tribe.

Though many of our southern leader fail to understand that if most of your people are poor, one day it will surely affect you, most of Yoruba and Igbo politicians, fail to understand that the person that use you to oppress your people today, will come for you one day, it is just a matter of time. The enemies of your tribe will come your your head, after they have use you to destroy yourself unknowingly.

I pray that God will help most Nigerians to understand my long time warnings, before it will be too late for us to act. God bless all those that are fighting for freedom in Jesus Mighty Name.
Picture that has been in circulation before the border closure, give us a current picture of same place

Ask Gowon and the InvestIgation Panel why they did not submit the report to Ironsi and the military council. Also ask Gowon why a white paper was never released. Read my previous posts for more info on this.

Besides .....the Nzeogwu coup involved hundreds of elite military men and dozens of officers representing every region that struck all over the country, killed most of the leadership and destroyed the government. Do you understand the complexity of such an investigation?

You cannot compare such to Isaac Boro and three or four men blowing up pipelines and attacking police stations in a few towns inside present day Bayelsa. (Two hour drive).
Ironsi as the military head of head could have been delaying the reports and reason why the second coup happened and he was killed, Isaac Boro had over a 100 of his men and supporters killed.

My friend the borders have always been closed to illegal goods and smugglers right from the day they were created so this Buhari closure is only affecting legit exporters and importers

Did the Op say igbo Ghana or igbo Togo.
Doesn't matter if in the same country or not, what matters is what the people want to refer to themselves and how they want others to see them and refer to them.
Rivers Igbo, Delta Igbo should be left to them and not you to tell them.
It is not up to you to decide for them, you decide for yourself alone.
