first I think you need to read the meaning of backward before you use it loosely, there are countries that practice backward system of government and the Nigerian system isn't one of them.There are a lot of places where this same system will work perfectly, but Nigerian being Nigerians will always find a way to make it about them and them alone,so even the best system will fail In Nigeria

Secondly, Switzerland or UK is not Nigeria, no politician in the UK uses the police to harass citizens or inec officials . I think instead of trying to copy others we need to look at our society and develop a system that works. I am only particularly against state police I could care less about what other change is made to the constitution

The courts are there to interpret the condition regarding the remits of the tiers of government so whatever might should not be the issue. The most advanced countries are those that have devolved much power to local governments, states or regions like Switzerland, Germany, USA, UK, etc.

Before you mention our "peculiarities", those countries have theirs but did not use it as an excuse to remain backward.

Federal police will focus on Federal crimes and crimes perpetrated across two or more religions. We have the intelligence to formulate what will work. But political will, foresight and discipline are absent.

The employment ‘contract’ with the Nigerian High Commission isn’t a very reliable one and probably some reckoned that they’ve been paying a lot more tax resulting in staff not being able to save money.

When you are ‘self employed ‘, you’d be able to reflect your expenses properly, some people do include expenses like ‘certain clothes’ you wear for work, shoes, breakfast/lunch expenses at work, transport fares/petrol expenses and other miscellaneous items. Some will list their cars as part of their companies and therefore expenses such as tyre change/ garage services, MOT etc are all included in the accounting.

In summary, Nzeako and co are really helping the staff to save money before they are disengaged from service.

I still prefer taxation at source. Even if they pay them 20k and deduct all deductibles, better to know what you go home with. No risk of falling foul.

Oga ambassador was lamenting non-payment of salary for like 6 months o. He said some of his staff had to dedicate more time to their side hustle to survive. I was wondering why the non-Nigerians would endure such with a country that is not even theirs. One of them had worked there for like 25 years.

This is not ideal for an embassy job. The job is way too important. Some staff could get into trouble with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) over tax payment. If they do not use a proper accountant to file their income tax.

People have always worked on building sites, farms, worked as labourers, hawked goods and all sorts to go even to secondary school.

when I read the first post, I knew the story was false and one sided...... I couldn't even go through some of the comments made by nairalanders as some of them lacks sense in them.... the story given by the late husband's friend was just smelling lies and very shallow..... I knew for the woman to call thugs as claimed by the man's friend on her husband,he must have been a wife beater and she has gotten enough... all wife beaters have that one useless friend who gives them wrong advise and behaved exactly like them...... they are also terrible liars...... Ok let's say she was always beaten (since the dead cannot speak), coming as a naive 17 years old girl. The lady in that pic cannot be less than 35. So in that 17 or so years, she could not use excuse of going to the stadium to run away from the abusive marriage? With so many young, strong family members she claims she has? Should your sister, if she were abused, not file for divorce instead of you to turn into a murderer?

1) He should have started looking for the accommodation for his sister from day one.
2) Why send your wife to the gym? Create a gym from the guest house.
3) He shouldn't have left the hospital until he got better. He is a medical personnel for crying out loud. He should know better. I lost a friend to internal bleeding last year.
4) Why is he giving money to the wife? For what exactly?

(1) Nothing wrong with housing your sister in a vacant guest house temporarily.
(2) The gym has a trainer who can ensure she actually does her training right. If you said that regarding it being an opportunity to cheat, she could have cheated on the way to do shopping too. Or use her seemingly plenty of free time to cheat.
(3) Internal bleeding may not show any symptoms or signs, once checked over by a doctor, admitting might not have been recommended. In fact healthcare professionals are most likely to say they are ok in such circumstances.
(4) In Nigeria, even lots of working wives keep their money and expect hubby to pay all the bills (food, fuel, kids & family total upkeep, etc), nothing unusual. Some wives live so well on hubby's income that both might find no reason for her to work.

You just cannot blame the guy for all the above. If there are things he was guilty of, we have to hear the lady's version first.

I think the guy pampered the lady too much, they didn't really love each other, the wife had no good relationship with her inlaws, etc.

I can assure you that if it was her own relatives that needed accommodation, she'd have happily taken them in.

I know one thing about Nigerian marriages. Many women are married to men they do not love. They did it to tick the marriage box, the economic security it provides, they wanted to marry like all their friends, etc. A few men also do it for same reason aside that she might be pretty.

Ok. If you read widely, you will have seen in many Victorian books that child labour in workhouses and chimney sweeping were considered "normal" and the employers even considered themselves as benevolent. But some people fought against it until society accepted it was not normal.
Your child is your child. But this one isn't. Even your own child, in a civilised society there is limit to how much work you can make her do.

Correct. When I was a kid an arrogant police DSP went to arrest a man "suspected" of doing juju for robbers in a town. Actually he was just arresting and shooting "suspects" anyhow. With his pistol ready in his hand he burst into the house. People ran to the Palace to inform the Duke.

The Duke was alarmed and went to the scene. The duke informed him that as a matter of courtesy, if he did not find the suspect, custom demands that he should come to the Palace. That he can produce anybody in his domain to the police if needs be.

But the DSP talked down on the Duke. Boasting that had he seen any moving thing in the house, he would have shot it at first sight. Warning the Duke that if he didn't produce him, he would come and kill people in the town. The Duke was really angered. Returned to the Palace, got out ancient relics and openly swore for the DSP. Telling him his cup Was full.

The Duke then sent the "suspect" to the AIG with a lawyer to face whatever he was accused of. Nothing could be proven against him and was told to go back home.

Within 21 days the DSP was arrested for protecting armed robbers in return for huge money. Armed robbers testified against him. He was tried and executed in 1986.

Anyone who was old enough in 1986 should know what I am talking about. It was national news for months back then. But only few know the background story. I knew because the Duke was a close relative.

OP, first of all that is child labour to employ a child of 12. No matter how kind you are to help her since then.

You also have no right to flog a child that is not your relation. Correct me if she is blood relation.

While you have helped to raise her well, she now puts her boyfriend ahead of you.

Bad mistake to broach sending her back by end of term as some suggest here. She might get desperate to remain to keep seeing boys in the hood. Who's to say one of them cannot become a kidnapper? You have kids I presume.

If she keeps defying you, endure until end of term. Then suddenly bundle her and send back to her parents.

In this time of money ritual and yahoo plus you cannot allow another person's child under your care to waka waka any how. What if she goes to secretly do abortion and something goes wrong? Do kids ever admit being sexually active?

It is then you will know she's not part of your family.

Of course it might not not be up to 5000. I do not think she took a register of the babies. It must be an estimate from memory. Which of cause is most likely flawed.

It's very difficult to swap a baby because both births have to be about the same time. Since it is about 500 births a year

It also depends on the number of staff in the labour ward. If a single staff concurrently looks after several women in labour, she could easily take several babies away into another room at the same time to swap them. Under guise of going to weigh them for example. And she could have refined her swapping skills over time.

Remember she's also a trusted person in authority.

She could easily have used medical terms to bamboozle occasionally suspicious women about why a baby might look different hours later after birth.

Some kind of evil just make no sense. It was not even for money o.

The hospital shouid contact parents who had kids born there in that period.

They should ask her how soon after birth she swapped them. And whether she swapped boys for boys and girls for girls only or even across gender soon after birth.

It may help in assisting parents who will come forward to check if their kids are indeed theirs.

I pray for them to discover plenty oil and gas.

Maybe then they will secede with their Boko Haram and leave us "infidels" alone.
