Because they fear your new spouse might take you away from their fold. That is one member/tithe/seed less. ![]() But why would a perfectly intelligent person allow pastor/church to decide who to marry? Whatever verse they quote to justify it is just an excuse. |
WebSurfer:They forgot dentistry. Very few around. Great profession in UK right now. More flexible. But medicine still any day. If you are passionate about it. You can do what nobody else can come close to doing. The feeling of using God-given ability to save lives, reduce suffering & promote health beats every other thing in this world. Maintaining sanctity of life. You are useful anywhere & anytime the need arises to save a life. |
It is one of the most important balancing acts a wife has to master. It is easier marrying into some families than others. It depends on the set up. Your husband knows his family best. Although he might be very positively biased towards him mum. As a new wife be very observant, watch how your hubby relates with different family members. That will give you a rough idea. Of course rarely your hubby can be the "I don't care" type who finds everybody to be nice. With time you will learn things on your own. Decide how you want to relate and be consistent. Do not pretend to be too nice in a way you cannot sustain. Whatever you do, do not be aloof, distant, unwelcoming, frowning, openly trying to over-ride your hubby, disrespectful or resentful. Keep your observations to yourself. Some will want to test the waters early on. Politely but firmly demarcate the boundary. For the most part you are the stranger, an intruder even in some cases. Their son/brother can virtually do no wrong. If he's not into anything that could cause a considerable jeopardy, taking your marital issues to his family is a no-no. Maintain peace in your home. It is yours to build. |
Eu24:State price & title documents here for transparency sake. |
stagger:Has someone blamed Jonathan for Tafa's theft and this Tajudeen court judgement today? Zombies said there was no corruption in 9ja before Jonathan & it ended when body language (sorry London body) came on board on May 29th 2015. ![]() No peace for the wicked & liars. |
See aproko everywhere. They were not even married sef. People divorce & separate every day, kini big deal? Mikel's bank account will still be fatter than that of 95% of people in this world. |
This is serious. |
nice. |
moses93:Good. |
moses93:Just imagine. So after finally making the grade, you still need long leg. The thing dey weak person. I gave up my admission those days because I had an option. Which course are you admitted to? |
moses93:In Nigeria here, how many people get what they deserve on merit? The same country a child from Yobe gets admission to unity school with a score of 4/200 and a child from SE or SS or SW cannot get in with 125/200? Abeg Leave matter for Matthias. |
Freemancipation:Chai! Fatality. Abeg show some mercy biko. Nothing but the truth. ![]() |
Ok. Only God knows. |
RIP. |
obawinner:What use is being president when they could not even build schools for their millions of Almajiri and it took Jonathan to do so? ![]() A President being from one tribe/ region has hardly any advantage for that tribe. Knowing that the SW cannot be trusted to do business with the SS and SE just have to wait. Maybe one day SW will feel humiliated enough by Northern masters to finally want to have some dignity to go for Oodua Republic. But while SW keep boasting they are the glue that hold a pathetic dysfunctional country together and the North know how to manipulate SW leaders dangling position and a few pecks, the country will probably have to die a natural death as some point. Everything has an expiry date. I am not Igbo or Ipob by the way. |
NubiLove:Maybe not. It could mean his chances of returning to good health are slim. Constitutionally nothing can stop Osibanjo. They will hope Bubu sticks around till May 2019. Even if in London. To ensure VP never becomes substantive president at all. |
I cannot see the mud on the robber's white top like the soldier's. Was the officer under threat from the robber at that time? This is just to ensure the killing was necessary. Because many innocent people are killed anyhow. Even when tackling a robber, there are rules to follow: is he armed and is a threat, unarmed? And so on. We are so used to death in 9ja that we ask no questions. So long as it is not one's own relative. |
Billyonaire:In civilised climes that would be true. Sadly Biafra secession if it happens would be acrimonious. The impression would be that you cannot have your country and still live in ours freely without immigration restrictions. I doubt any part of rest of Nigeria would offer Igbo people dual citizenship considering that Igboland has far fewer people from other parts that would need Biafra citizenship in return. Except ND if it became independent at same time. The only remedy will be that other parts of Nigeria will eventually realise how dependent on Igbo traders and businessmen they are. But the initial upheaval of secession will greatly affect Igbo businesses. At least in the first few years until the dust settles. |
FortuneTeller:Reason why surrogacy will be the next big thing. One cannot go & be having another man's kid as firstborn kid. As many firstborn kids are. My dear, a disease caught from other philandering men before marriage, will the disease disappear from the woman's body the minute she gets married? We all know that lots of married women now have multiple lovers too. And most just resumed their premarital lifestyle for several reasons: frequently travelling hubby, poverty, greed, better sex, etc. Thank God that as a woman, you have admitted what we all already knew. That most women, whether just a gf or fiancee of someone, now have multiple concurrent sexual relationships. At least no more hypocrisy alleging that men to be more promiscuous. |
Yemea1:Abeg do not waste your time. He's going to marry her. Many women will flood the thread now and say forgive her. Because many of them do like that girl. The OP is just looking for encouragement to marry her. Pity my black behind. This is how many firstborn kids, even subsequent ones belong to other men outside. Imagine. Not even their engagement could make her call the affair with the elderly man off. Because she wanted to continue getting the pecks from that man. Possibly even after wedding. |
RIP. |
Fadiga24:I wonder. Even very fit footballers like Okwaraji and Foe collapsed playing football and died. Sudden death ideally necessitates autopsy. |
StOla:Sigh. Are the masses better off now than during Jonathan's time? I think that should be the objective discourse? Every party eventually dies. Like all things, it passes into history. APC also won't be an exception. |
Rip. |
Good. More of this. And good maintenance will go a long way. |
Guy, nobody on NL has the answer. It can go either way. But remain positive. Find out what she wants. She might want to do HND before considering marriage. Her parents may tell her not to marry yet. Even if she says she does not want to further, her parents can collect application for her suddenly. And she cannot refuse. Yours truly experienced that before. Can you wait? The key is understanding where she sees her self now in the journey of life relative to yours. |
Bro sorry for you predicament but seek proper medical care. Have you done simple Full Blood Count test? Any sickle cell issues in your family? I guess unlikely but always good to know your status. Good knowing that your HIV status is negative. You may be abusing medication if you are taking them so often without prescription. Using antibiotics anyhow is a no-no. Then seek neurological & pain management care. |
AnonyNymous:Actually more and worse misdiagnoses happen abroad too. Including women made to undergo mastectomy (breast amputation) without actually having breast cancer! A very top hospital in Europe forgot the placenta inside my neighbour after delivery! Incredible consider that I knew the labour ward staff quite well. Some of the best in the business. It was falling out by itself after she was discharged. Pray tell, how did someone miss that? How did nobody examine the placenta and record findings as is the routine? I have many more baffling examples. A UK prime minister once resigned after being falsely diagnosed with terminal illness. A few decades back but still. |
almarthins:Lol, I happened to have partly researched Cuban health care system. With a professor who had about 30 years experience of researching the system in field work in Cuba. You have to go back to the actions of the revolutionary leaders to improve education making it one of best educated countries in the world. And the way they train doctors. Things do not happen without concerted actions by the powers that be. It easy to criticise from the outside. We all do that. But nothing like having proper comparative experiences to understand it better. |
Flashmove:Very bad move by your uncle. He should think of the future of the children. Not just his desire to Nigerianise them. Since 9ja culture is so great, he should have had them in Nigeria. He should have brought them around age 10/11 to attend a private boarding secondary school in Nigeria. You take in culture & information at a younger age. After 6 years of secondary school, they would have understood Nigeria/been Nigerian before returning abroad for university. Unless they are coming to study medicine/dentistry in Nigeria (a long professional course), I see no point in it. It won't matter much which university. Any Federal university will do. The course they will study matters more, if planning to return abroad later. |
InvertedHammer:Funding is not just about pay. Training is a big part of it. Training is not just about clinical skills, but also doctor-patient relationship skills, ethical aspects, etc. Note that better funding will also help retain more qualified doctors to improve doctor/patient ratio, improve workload, treatment outcome, etc. Yes, we need attitudinal change in all facets of life. In the West you will find a medic that has won many scientific accolades/awards, appears on TV to present medical programs but still does his routine clinical & teaching work in hospital. No fuss, no ego stuff. Despite being respected internationally in his field & financially very buoyant. We will get there. Eventually. |
almarthins:I believe that environment and culture matter in anything. Nigerian professionals in IT, healthcare, engineering, education and more do great abroad. Why do Nigerian doctors become very good & blend into the advanced medical system in the West? Because it is more satisfying if you can do your job better and make a difference. Given the tools: training, encouragement, funding, impeccable facilities, etc. Medical care is a very expensive. But Nigeria is investing too little in it. Therefore moral & quality suffer. UK that is one-third of Nigerian population, Healthcare budget is £133.1 billion , well over N61 trillion Naira or over 8 times Nigeria's total federal budget. Medical profession in Nigeria is very challenging and further training is insufficient. Frustration is what you see manifest in Nigerian doctors at home. Coming across as rude, uncaring, etc. Sure doctors can do better. Everyone needs to accept that patients/their loved ones are not responsible for the problems of funding that we have. |
