MasterRahl:Not true. Nigeria is poor. Resources, potential and excesses by the elite do not equate with wealth of a nation. If 9ja provides social housing for the almajiri in Kano alone, they won't have money to do much else without much borrowing. Fact is because the govt doesn't provide decent light, water, education, health, sanitation, libraries, roads and basic amenities that other average countries provide their citizens, the elite can feed fat on the little we have. Now do some simple maths with Nigerian annual budget. It is mostly never even up to 80% implemented yearly but let's assume it's fully implemented. 2020 budget was 10.59 trillion Naira or about 35 billion dollars. With 200 million population it is only about 52,000 Naira or 175 dollars per citizen, exchange rate changes might make it 100k Naira. That is peanuts per citizen. Less than 2 million Naira per citizen cannot be anywhere near enough for all the infrastructure, social services etc. By comparison Nigerians in diaspora remit about 20 billion dollars to Nigeria annually. We should not continue making the error of assuming we are rich when more and more of our skyrocketing population visibly wallow in poverty. With the social problems associated like unemployment, kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, prostitution staring us in the face. |
soundOsonic:1603 to 1868 AD in Japan is even called the Edo period. That was the Tokugawa Shogunate with Kyoto still power center in Japan mostly. As distant as Japan is to Benin, Benin has more common words with it than Yoruba. I guess I should gather some boys and storm Tokyo to take over Japan. ![]() |

Diplomatic skills are important. Not everything can be said carelessly. Even if fundamentally correct. |
TimeManager:I hardly reply your kind of post but because of the sake of others. War camps or any camps were called camps. The only difference was the location of the Lagoon and water bodies. The location. Benin had war camps across swaths of areas. Wasn't it logical to distinguish them by location? You underestimate the sophistication of ancient people. Thank God the Europeans recorded them. Many decades (1480 AD) before Lagos camp was founded, Prince Ginuwa of Benin was sent to another seaside as Ogiame (Lord of the Seas or Waterside) by his father, Oba Olua of Benin. Olu of Warri still bears that as his main title till today. As usual I write for discerning people quietly reading here. Samuk Gregyboy Etinosa1234 Sarah Nocomment1 Etrusen Bornrich |

Nice work. Kudos. |
bolaayenimo:This guy was one of those who proved that the youth can be worse than the old political cargoes. He squandered the chance given the youth. Patricia Etteh proved that a woman can be just as bad as a man in 9ja politics. So Bankole's girlfriend who was a medical student in Ghana when he was speaker has already married and divorced him since. Happy married life. |
gregyboy:What of Ekosodin, near UNIBEN? Ekoname is not difficult to pronounce, not even by Chinese. I know so places that begin with Ago in Benin area abd people shorten it to Ago. Like Ago-Ebo. Whether Ijebu also shortened it or not doesn't mean that Benin didn't already shorten it as Eko. Korame written by the French probably means that there were many Edo speaking people people in 1603 already that fully pronounced it as Ekonunuame or Ekaeme so that it was heard normally on daily basis. |
gregyboy:The two common names for camp in Benin are Eko and later Ago. Ago became more popular for temporary civilian or farming settlements later. Though both were used militarily before too. Benin is a very dynamic language. Words gain preference over others over time. I like to watch Urhobo and Isoko films for example. There I hear words with clear Benin roots. Some were words still popular with old folks decade ago, all now late. In 25 years many people will believe that "kokodia" is purely only Urhobo word for coconut. Okoro is pure Benin name for princes. Crown prince before investiture as EDAIKEN is called Okoro nokhua (Grand/Great Prince). Today Okoro is Urhobo name for "gentleman'. Some only know Okoro as an Igbo name. |
No surprise. |
gregyboy:When I was a kid my old folks called Lagos : Eko, Ekoname, Ekoame, Ekonunuame. We understood all to mean camp. Camp, watercamp, camp by the waters, camp by the mouth of water, actually meaning vast water body/sea. It was never in doubt that these were original Benin ways of calling Lagos. Did I Just read that last academic session (2019/2020) has been forfeited, null and void? And it does not seem to warrant much comment from people? Maybe losing a whole session due to strike or other reasons I don't know is normal in 9ja. Education is cheap though. I cannot imagine paying anything from £9,000 or £45,000 a session in UK to USA depending on country, course and residency status and then no whimper about losing it. |
The pigeons know say flying to Kaduna side or anywhere outside Abuja is safe. Herdsmen and bandits with all manner of weapons lurk everywhere. |

Mindlog:I wonder o. Is the baby his or not? Or the test has turned inconclusive like 9ja election? ![]() |
Sadly 9ja govt like ceremony pass actual taking care of veterans. No wonder those lucky to go high up enough grab as much as they can, further worsening the military institution, a vicious cycle. |
Christianokaro:This is great. Very commendable and inspiring. Millions of people need this in Nigeria. By the way how much will such a hand pumped bore cost? |
czarr:. Weyrey! ![]() Congratulations! The lack of Covid-19 protocols is disappointing. We expect the correct example from high places. |
I wish I could disagree. Luckily at times you still see some neat ones. At times I blame it on economic situation. Some may paint face and form. But at home no regular water supply in their yard. To afford proper soap and basic hygiene stuff Na problem. Some have misplaced priority. They will rather buy expensive bone straight hair than basic hygiene products. |
fuckingAyaya:Thank God not all Nigerians. But some are the village people we talk of. Village people don't necessarily live in a mud house or be like "Chiwetalu Igwe" of Nollywood films. They are normal people around you. Some even educated, some not. Any evil minded person who wishes people bad things is a card carrying member of Village People Association of Nigeria " (VPAN). With the authentic flying broom logo. ![]() |
We4all:Her mother is Irish, dad 9ja. Very surprised considering she's quite an intelligent lady. A former FGGC student and UI graduate. At least from what I gathered. To go to a unity school and UI nor be joke. But in 9ja expect any behavior from anybody. |
If this guy was a yahoo or money ritual guy, he would still be alive harming people. How will this encourage honest Hustle? RIP dude. |

JovialJune:Moyo's husband is the one who is now dead. It is what brought the whole thing to light. If Moyo wasn't married, it won't be an issue because polygamy is religiously and culturally normal up North. He probably have married Moyo. Nuru's wife is probably embarrassed by the publicity the saga has garnered. Now listen. If you think what I am about to say is made up, check my posts from years ago. I have mentioned it many times before on threads. A wealthy relative who traveled frequently for business married a wife and gave her the comfort most women would wish for. When not on business trip he spent quality time with family. Not the party or flenjo type. When he saw that things were beginning to worsen in 9ja years back, he decided to relocate his family abroad. DNA test was needed by the embassy. And BANG! All three kids were not his. He died suddenly not long after. Luckily he had one child from a relationship when he lived abroad. DNA proved that child is his. Funny enough he did not reveal the shameful result to his family. Only documents found after his death revealed it. Meanwhile everyone began complaining about his cold attitude towards his wife and about stopping the relocation process. He was too ashamed to tell anyone as he had seriously pampered the girl and her family during the marriage. SUVs, money. After his death some even blamed his frequent traveling for the girl's behavior even though the girl knew his job before they started. What you said is not far from blaming the late hubby, if only you can find one little excuse to so so. We saw all such things after our relative's death. Moyo even has the effrontery to say we should not play God and blame his untimely death on her shameless evil act. Can you imagine her heartlessness. Moyo is good looking and if she decides to allege domestic violence driving her into the arms of the idiot Nuru, brain and education miss- road self appointed feminist defenders will applaud her. |
teacherbim:Take heart dear. RIP to late Mrs Oboli. |
PHijo:Can you imagine. A woman that always needs urgent 2k calls a guy who earns 50k but has responsibility toward his parents and younger siblings broke ass. ![]() Coded prostitution and entitlement mentality really unscrewed the brain of some women. Yes, should my sister think like these people, then she is not excluded. Before anybody says "including your sister". No nepotism. Only those who don't think so entitled are excluded. |
Mikehot:My brother it is very telling. So some are now admitting that it is a commodity exchanged for money. That some women themselves would make it so plain is quite surprising. I would have expected prostitutes to do so but not those who would call themselves modern educated working class women. Sha I cannot be sure what these actually do for a living. |
