Food › Re: Big Gaboon Viper Caught In ÌJẸ̀BÚ ODE In Ogun State (Photos) by AreaFada2: 7:19pm On Feb 04, 2021 |
Skepticus: That's a Gaboon Viper, the snake with the longest fangs in the world. This specimen is big, if it was captured alive (which is very difficult), it will fetch good money for the OP, being sold to snake collectors in the wild. It is scarce and a favourite of these collectors, especially Americans.
A deadly ambush predator, it can wait for more than 8 hours in a motionless position for prey to pass by before it strikes.
It camouflages in dead and dry leaf materials (in the south), sandy areas (in the north) where it comes in contact with humans, mostly farmers and bites for protection. It's quite common in the thick forests of the southwest.
It's cytotoxic venom will bring a man down in 30 minutes or less. I never knew this type of adder is still even in SW. I thought long extinct in SW and perhaps found from Middle Belt upwards. It must be very rare in SW. The size shows its a rain forest well fed specimen. Luckily its not a very aggressive snake like mamba or cobra. But its venom load is herculean from its long deep penetrating fangs. One of the most deadly vipers and one of most deadly snakes. The Camouflage is scary. Farmers who use their hands to work the earth are most risk. |

Having successful kids doesn't mean d man shouldn''t engage in farming. By d way, it doesn't mean d man was doing d heavy lifting Those people talking like that clearly have no good links with their village. If not they will know better. Ika people are very successful people. Even just one of his grand kids could put him the city comfortably forever. Old folks who were always active need that activity continuously. Gerrard59: Actually, after 2015 and with the present administration's agric policies, some youths got involved in farming. But what did they get? Herdsmen crises and a closed border. One can manage with the latter but the former is extremely discouraging and scares others from going into it. I went into farming during GEJ time like many people I know. Many Began poultry, fishery or piggery around 2011. By 2015, economy had got so bad, feed too expensive and purchasing Power too low that many of us packed up. Herdsmen stopped us from cassava and plantain farms by 2017. I cannot understand how Buhari encouraged farming. Go to my topics and you will see when I created the topics. about piggery and palm oil just in case you doubt. |

Rice, cocoa, rubber, ground nuts, yam, oil palm, cotton, sorghum, maize, beans, sugar cane, cassava, etc. Most are now educated to secondary level, more live in cities, believe they deserve all the modern things of life in the city. Farming has not been encouraged or made attractive to young people. Cocoa, cashew and fruit trees can still create lots of employment. |

Amotolongbo: What about this?
Papers milled in a secular milling factory used in producing the Bible.
Tablets and phones manufactured by the secular tech giants with secular softwares to drive the soft bible, hymns and gospel music players in them.
Chairs manufactured in a secular factory used in church.
Musical instruments which are manufactured by secular industry being used in church.
Clothing materials (suits, lace, Ankara etc) produced for secular world being worn to church.
There is no way you can totally alienate the secular world from the church. What should make the difference is the spiritual message and should be devoid of excesses and vulgarity. Maybe ICT stuff invented by gays should not be used by Christians and church. Make dem bring me all their iPad, iPhone, and Mac books. If we are not careful, religion will gradually turn some people into extremists. Even Christians. Too many funny questions. There is a potentially fertile ground for extremist brainwashers out there. You wonder if people have to make everything a matter of religion. |

SpecialAdviser: My anger in all these is not that they are speaking up to warn Igboho. It is that they have been silence to warn Fulani herdsmen until Igboho sprang up.
Why ? God bless you. The reason Igboho even had any listeners is because those with influence to voice Southern predicament have all been quiet. Even when the Olufon of Ifon was murdered. Not to mention other atrocities. By the way same applies to almost all the monarchs, not just the Ooni. The issue is no more just SW issue. It's the entire South. I understand the Ooni urging people to calm things down and he probably went to see Buhari to urge him to act. But Southern leaders have failed woefully on this matter. |

God's mysterious ways, in effect, are remarkably similar to his nonexistence. Events always occur and proceed as you would expect if there was no god and man was left to fend for himself. I believe God exists but perhaps not the way we Africans think he does. God is not sitting up there being a control freak, micro directing everything. Punishing everyone for every little misdemeanor. God gives us enormous latitude to use our good nature to make the world and humanity better. We also have the freedom to do the opposite if we wish. By and large events occur by chance. Of course God can intervene if he wants to. |

tnerro1: The federal government should take this kidnapping business seriously, anyone guilty of kidnapping should get life in prison with hard labor, in America that we like to copy, kidnapping is a serious offense so much that even the great FBI will get involved Too late. FG missed the chance before it became too widespread. If they had imposed death penalty on kidnapping, and executed them publicly, it wouldn't have grown this big. It is a soft crime as people see it. A kidnapped person has no guarantee of returning alive. They still kill some despite paying ransom. So it's a capital offence because weapons, threat of violence and violence are involved. |

jchioma: Kidnappings are becoming an industry in Nigeria. Thanks to failure of Buhari to stem the ugly trend. It appears the thing has supply chains now. Arms smugglers, arms middle men and end users (kidnappers, bandits, herdsmen). City abductors, middle men and end use kidnappers. Food and drink suppliers, middle men and end users/kidnappers in the forest. So who knows how many supply chains surround it? How do they launder all the kidnap ransom payments? It won't surprise me if some criminal bankers have their own part in it. It may sound absurd now but as things are going, kidnapping could become so common and make money for many people that people will say stopping it will ruin a vital economic sectors. More absurd things have happened in Nigeria before. |

I want to say that it is not going to work because Nigerians already know where president Buhari stands on getting rid of boko Haram: Buhari views boko haran as fellow Islamic bigots.
In 2015 when Buhari was running for president and president Goodluck Jonathan was on track to getting rid of boko Haram, Buhari said to Jonathan: " stop killing the muslims ".
