Immanueladebol:Well, well. The famous Benin-Ife controversy. Problem is the guy you quoted cannot provide any scientific source BUT there is also no scientificc source of Oodua coming from Arabia all the way to one remote village in the rain forest called Ife. ![]() But with time our great grandkids would deem the ancient Benin version more plausible. That he was a Benin prince (Ekaladerhan) banished from Benin. He only just escaped death. After resting around Owo, eventually made his way to Ife, entering from the East. Now, Owo is roughly 70 miles West of Benin and Ife is roughly 70 miles East of Owo. Upon being made ruler of Ile-Ife he declared: "Ima d'Oduwa". Meaning "I didn't miss my destiny." This was corrupted to Ododuwa with time. Because as crown prince he was initially destined to be the Ogiso/Oba-Godo as Benin (Igodomigodo) kings were called then. Later on, it was discovered that the crown Prince had become ruler of Ife. Efforts to bring him back failed but he sent his son (Oranmiyan) after reassurance that he would be free from aristocratic intrigues there. Although Oranmiyan later left, but he had left his son, who founded the Benin dynasty (as Oba Eweka I) that has continued by male premogeniture till today. Upon restoration of Benin monarchy in 1914 after demise of Oba Ovonramwen in Calabar, the crown Prince took the name Eweka II. Because he restored the monarchy like Oranmiyan's son had done back in about 1169 AD. There could have been some embellishment here and there over the centuries, but the narrative is pretty consistent even when told by very old people without Western education. The Yoruba version is very well known. But it has a lot more myths in it. In a scientific world, Ife/Yoruba historians need to come up with a better explanation. But my hope is that descendants of Benin & Ife Royal families will submit themselves to DNA test to see if there's any link. Especially as the tests become very advanced. If it happens in my life time, I will happily take part. |
natas22:In modern times, the Ooni might not be interested. When there very many young succulent babes outside, haba! ![]() If a girl was bethroted to the late Ooni but not married her yet, then that might be more like it. |
175:Look all these Daddy G. O., Prophet this and that, the West have already gone through same phase. They later realised that you must take your destiny in your own hands, no miracle worker gonna cut it for you. If you like use your house to sow seed. About 50 to 100 years from now, we will start accusing Oyinbo of stealing our culture. Because we might have to go to Brazil or Canada or UK to learn Ifa metaphysics. That time, you go fear how some Universities abroad will package the course. ![]() |
Aromas:More like Minister of Propaganda Hon. Sir Alhaji Adams Aliyu Oshomhole. ![]() Nature abhors vacuum. When there's no cabinet, certain people start to arrogate jobs to themselves. |
Well, there's one good thing about this ping pong though. It shows that American govt was watching as corrupt officials siphoned our money to their country, buying up mansions in Potomac, Florida and elsewhere and did nothing. Yet they want us to believe they will help us fight corruption. Na wa o. |
alexrufabot:ok. Na fear of breaking dat roof by hard men be main matter there. |
Which year built? Any electrical or gear issues? Location? Thanks. |
niyiola27:Please put a warning about sexual abuse, maltreatment, seizing of passport and virtual imprisonment that foreign maids suffer in the middle east. Filipinos, East Africans, Bangladeshis, Pakistani (perhaps Nigerians too but our govt won't care) have been killed and sent to jail for resisting abuse. Please protect our women. Lots of relevant abuse videos on YouTube. Thank you. |
An angry woman seeking cheap relevance. Has anyone stopped her marrying and dancing for a musician? Aping the West without understanding their cultural evolution. We are evolving culturally daily. Stop trying to be what you're not by force. Our biggest contributions to human civilisation occurred at a time we looked inwards and believed in ourselves. Dragging Fela into this nonsense won't help anyone. |
Na wa o. Kano is last place you'd expect flood. We should respect our environment more o. We cannot mess with nature anyhow. More trees should be planted, those that thrive in that kinda climate and good drainage. |
uche77zero:So they will bury gay activist in an a.nus coffin, bah? ![]() |

nationwide1:My dear, dem go soon tire. Let them enjoy the honeymoon. Anything GMB does now, even if talking to cows, they will shout "Sai Baba". Siddon look na dog name. |
amadice:Maybe. But the question is how many such terrorist elements have managed to enter Nigeria unhindered? Had he scaled through Beirut airport, would our airports law enforcement officers mostly led by Quota System Northerners not have waved their Middle Eastern brother through with a smile? We can do the ostrich or face reality. ![]() |
ayobabas:Abi o. It is the wife who betrayed him. Let the wife, if he has one, whom the man rubbished, deal with him. If your wife opened her legs for another guy, she obviously has no respect for you or the marriage. If she wasn't drugged o. Except of course the man is a friend to the family too, then it's betrayal all round. ![]() |
Freshboi:My question is: how did our ancestors manage these things successfully? They did in their own natural way, built on the theories/philosophies that they developed. It seems today, foreign religions and norms that we neither understand (despite quoting holy books like parrots) nor suit us, have sowed the seed of confusion. We must now first reconcile everything: dating, sex, marriage and so on with foreign ideas first before we feel able to do anything. No group of people/race ever gets anywhere by aping others. Any surprise that since the era of aping Arabs & Europeans, blacks have been relagated to being a burden on others and never innovators? We have become self-loathers, who have no confidence in themselves. So much so that even Kings and our elite now go and die getting treatment abroad. Well, brainwashed people will never see the point. |
AreaFada2:@ Op. I asked a few basic questions above about your car and no reply? |
Is it still registered? |

Pangea:It's about ethics, morality and integrity. Things that are sacrosanct in saner climes but often disregarded to our peril in Nigeria. Not saying the report is accurate. Because no evidence yet that it is. If true, a govt that swept to power on the mantra of change and integrity can't be seen as a nest of people of questionable integrity. |
baralatie:They will soon switch to Mugabe mode and start calling SR ' Boko Haram Journalists '. Kikilikiki. This chanji dey sweet fa. ![]() |
Was this piece not here over a year ago? I have certainly read it somewhere. Nice though. |
socialmediaman:Good idea. But the free oil billions, what have they achieved with them? This is a country without social welfare system, yet they cannot provide basic necessity: light, water, security, education, health care, roads, etc. Because of Fashola's "one-eyed king in the land of the blind " performance in Lagos, people were more ready, albeit grudgingly, to pay taxes. When Fed govt, NASS and governors start using our money sensibly and wisely to bring development, people will be ready to pay tax. |
SUGARBEE:And women who don't satisfy their men. What is the reason? They have tried too many manlinesses and has become to lose and they lie in bed like a log of wood? You think it is fair to generalise all women like that? With sex available easily now, what is there to be over excited about? |

olorunsogo1:Being forced by sacking is quite different. Necessity is the mother of invention. Fact is as long as a decent income keeps coming in, the incentive is low. I know of someone who was flying high in a financial institution and something went wrong and had to leave job. After about a year of near depression at home, went into agriculture. He's doing really well now. |
Self-employment is great but not as easy as people make it out to be. You have to be a highly optimistic can-do person or you soon find yourself regretting that you quit paid job. |
How old is this old faithful? Any gear box or electrical fault? Any working AC? Thanks. |
allanphash7:Well I know four universities in Edo. I heard of more sef. Then three polytechnics. College of agric, colleges of education, etc. But why stay local if you have stolen money to burn? ![]() |
Pavore9:That guy na smooth operator. Won't be surprised if one of his kids becomes a commissioner in same administration. ![]() |
BabyDaddy20:Chai. You done waka. . But that is usually due to Bacterial Vaginosis. Can be treated fairly easily these days but some ladies feel too embarrassed to seek medical help. |
