Politics › 11 Killed In Pro-trump Rally In Nigeria- New York Times by Armaggedon(op): 5:22pm On Jan 20, 2017 |
WARRI, Nigeria — Eleven people were killed when Nigerian security forces cracked down on a demonstration supporting the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, a separatist group said Friday, though police denied there were any deaths. The demonstration was organized in southern Rivers state by the Indigenous People of Biafra, whose members want Trump to support the creation of an independent Biafran state for the Igbo people. Ugochukwu Chinweuba, a member of the group, said police and soldiers used live rounds and that "scores" were wounded in addition to the dead. Nnamdi Omoni, a spokesman for Rivers state police, said the claim was false and that police only used tear gas. "To the best of my knowledge, there was no casualty as the police merely employed minimal action, which involved the use of tear gas to disperse protesters," he said. Neither of the competing accounts could be independently verified. One million people died in the 1967-70 civil war over efforts to create a Biafran state. In November, Amnesty International accused Nigeria's military of killing 150 pro-Biafra protesters. The London-based human rights organization said an analysis of 87 videos, 122 photographs and testimony from 146 witnesses showed "the military fired live ammunition with little or no warning" into crowds protesting in several cities between August 2015 and August 2016. The army denied the allegations, saying soldiers used "maximum restraint." https://mobile.nytimes.com/aponline/2017/01/20/world/africa/ap-af-nigeria-trump-demonstration.html?_r=0&referer=http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=11+killed+in+pro+trump+rally+in+nigeria+lalasticlala |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Armaggedon: 6:39am On Jan 20, 2017 |
Maybe i came to this thread late because i ignored it earlier. I must issue a disclaimer for the benefit of foreigners being deceived by the picture of a united and peaceful Nigeria painted by yorubas. Pls note that there are no nationalists in nigeria 'cos nigeria is not a nation. Nigeria is a west african sub region of many sharply distict ethnic group forcefully and brutally amalgamated by the whites for economic expidency. Their is no truly Nigerian interest.Ethnic politics and interest overrides every other thing in Nigeria and this can get any ignorant fellow confused.Pls be careful when you studying nigerian issues to avoid falling into the trap of accepting one ethnic group's perception of nigeria as the true Nigerian story. There is no peace and harmony in Nigeria. The three major group always fight each other, politically, socially and economically that is why igbos desperately want their own country. You hardly see any Igbo man in foreign land that is proud of Nigeria, he'll rather simply call himself Igbo and wish to be a Biafran someday. Only yorubas and hausa want nigeria (even though the still hate themselves) cos the lopsided nature of the country resulting from post-civil war order and injustice gives them political and economic liverage over others.
Pls any information about igbo coming from a yoruba here should be disregarded because it most probably serves to demote Igbo and promote his ethnic group. |

[s] MyPWisINCORRECT: The Igbo ethnic group must be reminded that Port Harcourt City is no longer a district in the old eastern region but a city in South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria (take note: not Biafra)
We the good people of Port Harcourt on this day, distance ourselves from the planned IPOB-Trump solidarity protest slated to hold in Port Harcourt on Friday, 20th January, 2017.
We advise our Igbo brethrens to organize such protests in any of the following Igbo state-capital cities of Abakaliki, Enugu, Awka, Owerri or Umuahia.
We also call on every relevant security apparatus to clamp down on any protester and the full weight of the law should be meted on such persons.
I must reiterate that the good people of Port Harcourt and Rivers State at large are not part of this protest and no part of our territory will be ceded to the Igbos for any reason whatsoever.
Thank you. [/s] ok

This is the time that demands for real governance not when oil exchanged for $120 per barrel. With the oil boom then any dummy could rule as presidiot. Just share allocation to states, award fake contracts and get feedbacks through ministries, embezzle your own and keep the rest for campaign. During campaign, fly ethnic kite and watch the zoo ethnic groups fight over you while you complete your 8years, and the cycle continues.
Now things have changed, the pple cant even feed, workers are unpaid, the economy is shrinking 'cos of low production, unemployment rate is unprecedented, no power/infrastructure or capital to boost industralization.
Where will the govt get money to fix infrastructure when it is borrowing to fund budget. Borrowing that will never be repaid. Where will you get money to repay when Oil production is down cos of militancy and, even if it miraculously resumes you wont make much cos of higher global supply (the opec measure is temporary)
it is obvious that this is the end of the road for the zoo. No need to apply force cos nature will take care of the parting. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria's Looming Economic Doom by Armaggedon: 7:37pm On Jan 15, 2017 |
since1914: I just read the article about the UN report on Nigeria's rising rate of unemployment. As disheartening as it sounds, it is still a lot better than where will be in the next 6-10 years; because the unemployment figure will not be less than 50 percent by that time. This has more to with our educational system than actual lack of jobs.
About 10-15 years ago, Nigeria had very few universities besides the Federal and state universities. Getting into University was very difficult and competitive. You had to meet JAMB cut-off points to get admitted. Your WAEC result had to be in order as well or else you went for a one year remedial program. There was no NECO at that time so if you failed WAEC, you had to wait at home until you cleared your papers before you got into school. Not to even talk about the ASUU strikes that could last up to 6 months sometimes. But today all that has changed, the kids now get into university the same year they graduate from Secondary school. They now have NECO, and private universities. Even NYSC now has batch A,B & C. Average age at graduation is now hovering between 22 & 23yrs. Law schools can now churn out up to 3,000 lawyers in one calender year.
That is the scenario we have today, the Nigerian economy has too many graduates that it cannot and will never be able to absorb. For real jobs to be created, government must re-design its educational policies to also provide formal blue-collar career education for the many that want to go that path. I know people with bachelor degrees that are now doing extremely well as carpenters and have even employed other people. Why didn't we provide carpentry schools for them in the first place? Why should it take them five full years and hundreds of thousands of naira to get them a career they could have had in just 3years? With the creation of six new universities last year, government squandered an opportunity to chat a new course in manpower development.
Those universities should have being purely technical institutes with specific emphasies on training craftsmen and blue collar professionals. Most of our artisans learnt their trade from their 'mentors' who also learnt from his own 'mentor' and the chain continues like that. So this guys have never really had the opportunity to develop their expertise formally. They took all that their mentors taught them including the mistakes and falacies that came with them. That is why you have mechanics removing 'Thermostats', and carpenters doing shoddy jobs etc.
Why do you think Nigerians still fly-in foreign tradesmen like Plumbers, carpenters and P.O.P. installers etc to do their jobs? These guys had the right training and have pushed every available tool and material to their very limit in the course of work. In some countries they even take professional exams and CEU. The Federal and state Governments must re-design our educational sytem to meet the current challenges we now face, or else the unemployment figures will keep rising as well as the accompanying crime rate. may your prayers be heard and your children graduate to become good carpenters. Pls say amen lets take you serious. |

Fremancipation: Yugoslavia president supported Nigeria against Biafra because he was scared of the brewing breakup of his country. Guess what, it still broke up.
Supporting china against Taiwan will not stop Nigerias eventual breakup. is it only yogoslavia? Soviet union supplied nigeria left- over ww2 weapons thinking on getting allies that will help them keep their empire status going but it still collapsed. UK with all their big brother pose during the war and their efforts to defeat Biafra now has self determination activities going on right inside it. And we all know they wont survive the second referendum 'cos scotland really want EU. Its all a matter of time and determination before the so-called one nigeria will give way. |

ChessEnthusiast: The regions were broken on May 24, 1966 through the Unification Decree by Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi’s administration and not Gowon.
Edited:
Ironsi introduced and passed the unification decree. it didn't work as he wanted. he suspended it and asked that the decree be modified.
Gowon reverted Nigeria back to the federation system. Later changed his mind because of the unrest in the old eastern region abolished the regional system. He played a fast one on all of us.
Ironsi and Gowon take the blame.
Ironsi - for conceiving the idea Gowon - for enforcing it ironsi didnt break regions, gowon did. |
