Father Arrested For Selling A Day Old Baby For N350,000
Residents of Alagbado area of Lagos state were is shock and disbelieve following the arrest of man named Abraham Olaniyan who sold his day-old baby to an Anambra State Business woman for N350,000.
Shortly before his arrest, sympathizers and close relatives of the Olaniyans had thronged their apartment to console them on the death of their baby.
Further report stated that the suspect’s wife , Mrs Nkechi Olaniyan was pregnant for the fifth child. But the family, as gathered, had been going through financial difficulty which led to the suspect’s inability to care for his immediate family. On the day of delivery, the suspect, a bricklayer, reportedly took his wife to a private hospital around Alagbado where she was delivered of a baby boy.
Crime Alert learnt that trouble started Mrs. Olaniyan regained consciousness, an hour after the delivery, and she was informed that her baby had died. She reportedly demanded severally to see the remains of her baby, only to be told that he had been buried already.
Suspecting a foul play, she reportedly contacted the police and expressed fears that the purported story of her dead child was shrouded in unfathomable circumstance. The Police immediately arrested the husband, a development that initially sparked up reactions from different quarters.
But preliminary investigation, according to Police sources, revealed that the 26-year-old father allegedly connived with some medical staff to sell the baby, following his inability to cater for him and his siblings. According to the sources,“ we arrested the man based on his wife’s disclosure that he had one time threatened to sell one of their children.
She said when she was pregnant, her husband asked her to terminate the pregnancy because of their financial state but claimed she refused. So, after she regained consciousness and was told the baby had died, she insisted on seeing the corpse and when they did not, she concluded her husband could have made do his treat.
“ At first , her husband denied . But he later confessed that he sold the baby for N350,000 to a woman in Anambra State who had been been looking for the fruit of the womb for fifteen years. His confessional statement led to the arrest of the doctor of the hospital and two nurses, who during interrogation, told us the man gave them his consent and that the woman was aware of the whole plan”
Investigation, as gathered, further revealed that the woman was anesthetized immediately she put to bed, apparently to prevent her from knowing when the illicit transaction would take place.
On how the business woman was arrested in far away Anambra, police sources said, “ she was called on the phone by Abraham who said he wanted to see her. A place was booked for the meeting and when she showed up, we arrested her.”
Meanwhile , back in Onitsha , the apartment of the business woman simply identified as Rachael was agog with celebration. One of her relatives was already in her house to help her massage her body and also bath the child. The joy between her and her husband over the arrival of their baby knew no bounds , owing to the several years of waiting for a child of their own. It could however not be ascertained whether she revealed the source of the baby’s arrival to her husband.
What a terrible man! Imagine selling your own son for N350,000. |

Suicide blast kills 15 in Bauchi church On June 3, 2012 · In News 1:46 pm Email3 KANO – (AFP) – A suicide bomber who tried to drive an explosives-packed car into a church in Bauchi on Sunday killed at least 15 , 40 injured after suicide blast at Nigeria church: rescue agency people, including himself, and injured 40, officials said. Speeding up his vehicle, the attacker approached a checkpoint near the church in Bauchi State, which has previously been hit by Islamist group Boko Haram and where tension between Muslims and Christians has led to violence in the past. “We have a checkpoint not far from the church which prevented the bomber from gaining access to his target,” said state police commissioner Mohammed Ladan. “So he rammed the car into a security gate and the car exploded, killing him and eight other people,” he added. “Many people were injured but I can’t give you any precise number because the hospital is still trying to take a toll.” Witnesses said the force of the blast near the Harvest Field of Christ Church on the outskirts of Bauchi city caused the building to collapse on the worshippers inside” he added. The head of the Nigerian Red Cross in Bauchi state, Adamu Abubakar, told AFP he counted 35 people injured at an area hospital. Residents said that the explosion caused the church building to collapse, prompting dozens of people to flee seeking refuge, but some ran straight into a fire raging outside. “There was confusion as residents and churchgoers tried to flee. Some of them out of fright fell into the fire caused by the explosion,” said resident Timothy Joshua. Another witness, who requested anonymity, said a presumed accomplice tried to escape the scene after the blast went off and was later chased down and killed by enraged residents, although police could not confirm this account. “The other bomber abandoned the car they came with and wanted to flee, but he was pursued by a resident and worshippers and beaten to death,” this witness said. Boko Haram has claimed attacks killing more than 1,000 in Nigeria since July 2009, with some of the worst bloodshed coming in the northeast. The group staged a daring jailbreak in Bauchi in September 2010 during which it said roughly 100 of its members were freed. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/suicide-blast-kills-nine-in-bauchi-church/ |
Politics › Boko Haram: Killings Put Lives Of Northerners In Danger by asha80(op): 9:36am On Jan 15, 2012 |
Boko Haram: killings put lives of Northerners in danger On January 15, 2012 · In News BY VINCENT UJUMADU, Awka NORTHERNERS residing in the Eastern part of the country are unhappy with the sectarian killings in parts of the North, saying the development has put their lives in danger. Though there has not been any threat to their lives by their Southern hosts, the northerners have remained apprehensive, especially whenever they saw people gather together. In fact, most of them who serve as gatemen and foreign exchange agents have suddenly disappeared from their duty posts telling their employers where they were heading to. A landlord in Awka, Mr. Fabian Okafor who had four northerners in his employ both in his house and office said he was surprised that they left unceremoniously despite his assurance to them that nothing would happen to them. He said: “When reports of the killings in the North came, I noticed that these northerners working for me were unnecessarily becoming apprehensive. I called them to my house and assured them that nothing would happen to them because Igbos are not interested in reprisal killing. “Though they assured me that they would remain with me, I was surprised when I came back one evening and noticed that they have all left. I called them on telephone and their lines were switched off. When I went to make enquiry from their leader in Awka, I noticed that he too had left.” Secretary of South-South and South-East Northern Traditional Council, Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau, in statement in Awka condemned what he described as the senseless killings in the North. According to him, the Hausa Muslim community in the two zones regret the deteriorating security situation in the northern parts of Nigeria which has resulted to destruction of churches and killing of innocent citizens. The statement urged the Federal Government to rise to the situation to protect the unity and corporate existence of the country. The statement enjoined all southerners to ignore the threat by members of Boko Haram sect to non northerners and Christians to leave the area, insisting that the country belongs to all Nigerians. It noted that a large number of northerners, both Christians and Muslims, are also residing the South and have been going about their businesses without molestation from any quarter, noting that Islam does not preach violence but rather preaches peace and tolerance among people. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/boko-haram-killings-put-lives-of-northerners-in-danger/ |

Why should we believe prof Nnaji can led a team to improve power generation and transmission with this same complexities ? being a minister and chairman or ceo(appointed by government) to run a business(refinery) are not actually the same.ministers come and go with the purpose of implementing government policies.a chairman or ceo is meant to run a business as long as he can so far as the competence is there.now with what you proposing i do not see how governmnet(with nigeria in mind here with our complexities)can honestly allow a competent person be there with the usual bias with respect to tribe, religion, zone not creeping in.govts also come and go.ask yourself how many chairman of nnpc we have had for the past 5 yaers?is that how to run a business? nigeria is not china nor venezuela.different mindset. |

I've always wondered why the govt cant just build more refineries- but we keep getting the old theoretical ' govt has no business running a business'; you only have to look around the world to see there are socialist policies amongst the most capitalists govt
if the govt can get nigerians of repute to manage the 'subsidy savings'; they can also get competent nigerians to manage the refineries! that cannot happen in nigeria because of nigeria's complexities. |

that has always being my point! you just supported the MASSOG guys that we need to leave the south, that hausas are your enemies becuase BH comes from the north blah blah yada yada. my point is this:
there are millions of innocent igbos in the north who've carved out means of livelihood here more than they ever can in the southeast. our teeming population ceates lucrative markets. are you asking them to leave the north for the east just to satisfy your secessionist dreams?
the northerners in the east are not as settled and economically important as the igbos in the north. you cannot disrupt businesses worth billions because some marginal group is on a rampage.
we are not your enemy. BH is. PDP is. at first bolded show me where i supported massob guys that northerners need to leave the north.(moreover it was not massob that gave this ultimatum) at second bolded where did i imply that i support relocation of northerners to north satisfy whatever dreams you think i have. |

Ex Inferis: seems last night's ogogoro is befuddling your logic. your incoherence neither posits a valid point nor invalidates mine. praytell what is the inverse relationship between igbos owning properties in the north and the activities of massob?
MASSOB is a pan-igbo movement that embodies your collective zeal for a biafran nation. thus, MASSOB is a well accpeted organ of your aspirations. it does speak for all igbos and im yet to find one igbo who says otherwise.
meanwhile BH arose as splinter faction from a sect of nigerian version of islam (the Izala sect) due to disagreement on the concept of western education and its place in islam. BH speaks for the members of its sect, a minority.
one is a political umbrella organization, the other is a religious faction. night and day, apple and oranges. first bolded people want their own nation yet they are busy building assets in a region that will not fall under their supposed country that they are trying to carve out.have you asked an igbo guy in the north of his thoughts about massob?as for saying you have not found an igbo guy talknig bad about massob then search harder.the same way i have not found a northerner talking bad about boko haram. one is a political umbrella organisation.who gave them the power to do that? |
