Zelex9: Isn't the South East Geo-political zone the smallest in terms of land mass?
Do we know what projects this budget will fund? What about if this "paltry" sum is enough to cover the infrastructure projects set out for the South East?
Let us ask these type of logical questions before shouting tribalism...does budget allocation really matter as long as infrastructure commitments are met? first the thread is misleading Secondly if the thread is true then what you wrote here is laughably insulting to say the least..if you don't know it takes 250m naira to build a standard km of road so a 2.9 bn can only build roughly only 12 km of rd so you saying that the sum total of federal rds in the east is just 12km then God help you. |

That daily trust report has to be put under scrutiny...now this link is a complaint by the senate that they cannot pass the budget presented..in tho report ekweremadu was seen complaining about the inequality in money allocated to projects in different zones.however he is quoted to say that Enugu ph expressway got 10bn and Enugu Onitsha got 3bn but these two projects were not mentioned in the daily trust report..this news was 21/1/2016 http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2016/01/2016-budget-cant-work/ |

swiperthefox: You are absolutely correct. Is it padding of budget at work or typographical error? That remains to the seen. But wait, they didn't add the federal road connecting Imo & Rivers states that is the worst road in Nigeria. This ineffective pregnant governor in Imo will not talk to his oga @ Aso rock. It is the least he can do after he donated Imo state treasury for his residential campaign fund. the road is owerri elele road and it is under nddc projects http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2016/02/minister-demands-satisfactory-job-on-owerri-elele-road/ |

So which zone will be allocated the N17 billion for the Niger Bridge project? You guys are so deceitful
It is clear that there are errors in this reportage. You sound educated, so you should have realised that, very fairly quickly. did you not see where I wrote 'zoning it to se no problem'? Do you understand my arguremenr with obiagelli? Abi you no understand what that quoted statement means? It is you that is deceitful so I will not generalize like you.. |

Obiagelli: Enugu- Ebonyi road is on that list is 2NB not part of the SE project? first and foremost Enugu abakiliki rd is completed ask those who know the rd..secondly what is allocated to Enugu abakiliki rd is 29m naira for some unclear reasons Secondly listing 2nd niger bridge as a se project is a bit of a misnomer simply because it a bridge that connects ss (asaba) to se (Enugu) as both ends of the bridge is sitting on the land of both zones.however zoning it as se project no problems but it was allocated 17bn...so where is the remaining 10bn that is supposed to make it 29bn allocated to se? |
Politics › Re: Budget: South-West Gets Lion’s Share Of Projects by asha80(m): 11:55am On Feb 16, 2016 |
Obiagelli: I didn't see the Enugu-portharcourt road on the list, maybe it has been pushed to next year or this newspaper missed it I saw the budget breakdown somewhere else and it was there so maybe omitted here but if pushed to next yr then that means capital budget for se is actually 2.9 bn instead of 29bn you wanted to correct earlier. Add niger bridge 17bn to other capital projects listed for se in this article you will get around 19bn so what happens to the remaining 10 bn ? |

Davvymavvy: The amount allocated to the road in contention is very small in comparison to how strategic viz a viz the number of vehicular movement on the road. If your assertion is anything to go by, then you should have condemned the lopsided and acutely skewed appointments of Buhari in favour of certain region of the country. buhari's appointments is not the issue here let us not deviate..moreover how do you know if I condemned the appointments or not? |
Politics › Re: Budget: South-West Gets Lion’s Share Of Projects by asha80(m): 11:14am On Feb 16, 2016 |
Obiagelli: Bro, that road is longer and wider than any other road on the list, anyways that is the question the silly senator should be asking instead of talking nonsense about one region getting more than others. it is not longer that Enugu to portharcourt which is also a critical road in the list(allocated 10bn though omitted from the list here) but obviously wider. Musiwa419: The Lagos-Ibadan express road is the most strategic road in Nigeria. The daily vehicular movement on that road surpasses anywhere else in sub saharan africa most especially on weekends and during yueltide. As far as I am concerned, the money budget for the road is still too small I agree here |

Obiagelli: Pls tell me the minister has not chosen the most important road in every region. The SW 4 roads, SE 2 road, NW 2 road. Every other region has got 1 road each.
The SW and SE dont have any housing project while some others got
The SW does not have any electrification projects.
We have to move away from this mutual suspicion thing. the mutual suspicion thing is not going to go by fiat but by painstaking and deliberate process....that allocation for lagos Ibadan expressway to me is high compared to what is allocated to equally important ongoing/rd projects in other regions. |
Politics › Re: Budget: South-West Gets Lion’s Share Of Projects by asha80(m): 10:21am On Feb 16, 2016 |
Obiagelli: I don't, the minister is not the typical Nigerian politician, he has he is focusing of the most economically viable road and has chosen the Lagos-ibadan expressway ( that is gulping 50billion), the lagos airpot road and the apapa express. These roads are by far the most important roads in Nigeria.
The minister has also made it clear that these are abandoned/under construction projects. There are no new road projects for this year. in a country where mutual suspicion exists the first paragraph won't fly..it does not matter whether it is the truth or not as it did not start today...other equally important and abandoned /under construction roads also exist..no one is talking of new roads here..moreover he has hos people he is supposedly representing |

Aba has a very high revenue generation potential which have been looted by our leaders. The only thing we often hear from them is that we only generate #600 million and #3000 is been collected from more than 100,000 shops in aba a month alone. We are not talking about the amount collected from tri cycle drivers daily talk less of industries. Umuahia, ohafia and other sub cities are also money bags I know aba generates much but I still find it hard to believe he has not collected loan with the way construction is going on glacswhite: Ikpeazu onces said that the money he needs to build Aba/Abian is in it.... Abagworo: By Emmanuel Mgbeahuruike — Feb 13, 2016 5:54 am | Leave a comment Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha yesterday received a copy of the agreement reached by Labour and the Imo state government, signaling the end of the disagreement which arose between the two groups following the suspension of workers of selected Parastatals and Agencies.
The agreement was a product of the Joint Committee made up of the leaders of the organized Labour in the state, their National leaders and Government Representatives. A copy of the agreement was handed over to the governor by the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba and the Chairman of the joint committee, Hon. Ikenna Emeh, at the Government House, Owerri.
Receiving the copy of the agreement, Governor Okorocha said “my action, suspending the workers of the Parastatals and Health outfits was of no personal benefits to me or my family, but to save the soul of the state and guaranteeing the future of Imo children yet unborn.” On the issue of the 70% and 30% sharing formula for labour and government respectively, Governor Okorocha stated, “I have accepted the formula. And I promise with the 30 percent given to me, I assure Imo people that I will make them happy with that. I am happy that the workers are satisfied with the 70% percent.”
“No worker in the state will be punished for participating in the protest. The agreement will place the truth on a practical manner because people never believed when I say what is being gotten from the Federation Account. I enjoin all governors to copy the Imo formula as it will help the populace understand every government better.”
The governor further stressed that, “I have done all within my reach to please the workers of Imo and provide democracy dividends to the people of the state despite the difficult economic situation in the country. It is unfortunate that over the years, the fumes coming out of the exhaust pipe in Imo are only smokes of consumption and no smoke of production. That can never help to develop the state.”
Governor Okorocha said, “I share in the sentiment of the workers of doing the old things, the old way without any positive result. And if the state must be secured for the future generation, then sacrifice is inevitable. For those wondering who has lost or won in the conflict, there is no winner. There is no loser. We are all winners in the struggle.” “I believe that the culture in Nigeria does not allow collective ownership of properties, people do better when there is individualism in the ownership of properties. That explains why the concessioned properties of the state government are doing well. I thank labour for doing me a great favour by this agreement.”
Comrade Wabba before handing over copy of the agreement to Governor Okorocha expressed the appreciation of Labour for the constitution of the Joint Committee and the agreement reached, assuring that labour in the state will continue to work together with the government to improve on the lives of Imo people.
Comrade Wabba further remarked “I thank the Security Agencies for doing wonderful job in ensuring that there was no breakdown of law and order. And hoodlums did not take advantage of the situation to cause havoc. The workers will continue to give their best in the service of the nation.”
Wabba continued, “I enjoin the government to ensure that the agreement be given effect and implementation to avoid future re-occurrence of the problem. The agreement signed will be the end of the challenges that necessitated the Joint Committee.”
Part of the agreement read thus, “that Government will retain and run all its affairs with not more than 30% of the verified revenue for the month, while the committee will apply the balance of 70% in the settlement of salaries of public servants and pensioners. The understanding is with effect from January 2016.”
http://leadership.ng/news/500864/okorocha-receives-copy-agreement-labour-govt I dont understand.30% for running affairs of govt and 70% for settlement of public servants and pensioners...what happens to money for capital projects? |
