ideykwum: Then you haven't read your history well. Causes are both direct and indirect. Biafra was born out of a desire by people (largely of the Eastern Region ) to seek for autonomy after the famous pogroms. The pogroms were a result of tribal sentiment and the perceived lopsided execution of the Nzeogwu coup. As leader of the coup, he was directly responsible for its results. Nzeogwu also fought on the side of Biafra. Check your history bro.... I say it again read and understand history well..in 'the Nigerian revolution and the biafran war' written by maj general Alexander madiebo he made it clear that nzeogwu was not favourably disposed to fighting that war as he did not believe in it...do you even know circumstances that led to his death? the surrender? Please if you read about nzeogwu well you wil know that he considered himself more as a northerner than igbo/anioma |

sukkot: bruv, nothing i wrote was personal. my best friend is igbo. was explaining to Abagworo and KingEbukasBlog why they think there is a conspiracy against igbos. i was just tryna tell em its nothing personal against igbos - its just that people are treated how they present themselves. and yes this world deals in stereotypes whether we choose to accept it or not. the police in america is as effective as it is because it deals with stereotypes- then it will be up to the individual person to prove them wrong. but trust me, stereotyping is a very important tool and it can save your life. having said all that - let me go and read your post cuz i made this post without reading yours first. I only read the first few lines before feeling compelled to drop this post
and no i do not have igbophobia - like i said, my best friend is igbo. in fact all my best friends thrrough life in secondary school and university have been igbo, so dont even try to use that against me lol. listen, i am a free spirit and i abuse every tribe in nigeria if you read my posts - i abuse yoruba alot too. so this is not a personal thing. i have no allegiance to any tribe in nigeria. i am tribe-less meaning i can speak my mind on the deficiencies of any tribe. i am sure you have read my posts were i say the yoruba practices are nonsense and archaic.
so an example of an international stereotype - nigerians are corrupt people. <<< this stereotype can save many peoples ( foreigners ) lives abroad cuz when they approach a nigerian they approach with caution. so stereotypes are good. they can save your life So I guess the stereotype that yorubas are dirty and treacherous or chameleons is good until the individual proves otherwise right? |

mandarin: For the sake of younger generations that may see Nairaland as a point of reference, let me make some contributions.
1. The entire buying and trading accounts form about 11% of the GDP. Now, that's a huge number but that include mega malls etc. The act of buying and selling cut across all ethnic groups in Nigeria. Depending on which sector of trading you are talking about, I think every ethnic group has their dominance; vehicle parts, electronics and tyres are Igbo dominated, agric produces are Hausa and Yoruba dominated, boutique and clothing cut across. The question is, who produce what are sold, those electronics, car parts etc? Over 90% come from offshore markets, that itself destroys local productions. That leads us to who imports most of these things? By available estimates, the Igbo controls 50%+ , who transport them and manage logistics? Overall, Hausa and Yoruba dominate that. With new government seeking to aid local production who will lose more? The igbo. 2. What about the remaining 89% of the GDP? Who dominate. When you are considering dominance, it will help to break it down to sector by sector, I think those sectors Igbo can claim to have at least 20% are Movie segment in entertainments sector, pharmaceutical, banking. 3. Looking at the semi skilled and unskilled services like auto mechanics, shoe cobbler, bricklayers etc, you think they don't make money? Who dominate there? 4. I have read on countless threads on how developed south east cities and neighborhoods are ,yes I agree but when you consider other regions, you will see that developments may actually be more. If you fix all eastern cities into say Oyo or Kaduna states, you will be surprised that all the major cities may not be as big as the top three cities of Ibadan, Ogbomoso,Oyo and Kaduna, Zaria, kafanchan respectively. Also, the population residing in the south east is about four times of Ibadan or about six times that of kaduna city in the latest estimates. The question is who buy all what Igbo sell? Other groups and of you say all other groups are poor how do they pay their children school fees in those expensive private schools and universities? Lets stop all the rantings and provide logical data for life is not the way you dream it! Igbos wil not lose in local production of you know the economy of nnewi, aba and even Onitsha well...the trust on local production by this govt is even a relief to the guys there |

obailala: Fixed charges are now gone, if yourbulb doesn't light up, you don't get to pay a dime; but if it lights up, you get too pay a little higher. This is a pretty good step which would now encourage the privatised power companies to sit up and ensure they provide power. The privatisation of the power sector has never worked because the investors complained about low charges and an inability to recoup their funds. The cancellation of fixed would ensure the power companies don't scam consumers; just like the telecoms sector explosion, this is a step in the right direction to end Nigeria's power woes. hope you know most Nigerians are still on estimated billing? |

Abagworo: Why is it now a problem accepting the fact that the negotiations were done by him and he is equally building the business park there. I feel disappointed each time I learn of youths scaring away investors because of politics. Look at what they did to Adapalm and same Roche Company which was grounded by Imo youths at Egbema and Agwa are now managing Rivers palm with profit. You cannot develop by fighting investors. They said Roche a Swiss company is owned by Okorocha but now that they've left and gone to more condusive Rivers people have realised they were genuine investors.
Don't be surprised if the gas plant is eventually moved and they will blame Okorocha. odeotito: Yes. The CJN said that much at the recent Conference of The Court of Appeal Judges. My take however is that The SCN as the Apex Court had a bounden duty to correct such positions of the Law as laid down by The Court of Appeal that tends to cast aspersions on the Judiciary. Thanks for a response I consider stimulating. there is nothing to correct in that position the court of appeal took in lagos by the supreme court because court of appeal was right...the card reader is not part of the electoral law as it is just an aid to it..inec and nass should have made amendments to the electoral law to accommodate or include card reader..well they did not(I hope the do now if greed on part of mass would agree before 2019) so what the supreme court has just done is to interpret the law pure and simple..it is just that people who did not complain or find anything wrong when the court of appeal in lagos made that pronouncement are arguing now that the supreme court has decided to make that pronouncement uniform |

Goke7: I think its all about politics and to reduce the tension currently in the country. The ss and se have a lot of antagonism against the present FG. Sometimes I know Judges looks at the prevalent environmental circumstances before giving their judgement, forget all those bunkum of evidence before the court, I think all the supreme court judgments is just to allow peace to reign in the ss and se as the Government of the day needs to be more focused on better issues of Governance, the ss and se are still finding it difficult to accept the ruling Government and the pdp are still behaving as if they are still the ruling party. The supreme court Judges may have used their sole discretion not to heat up the polity so we can have peace for now.
Finally its time to move on and neglect all politics of bitterness and bigotry, at least the ss and se can allow everyone rest now since their preferred parties are ruling their states. God bless Nigeria and let's all start holding our states Governors to be more accountable to us. emotional hogwash..the appeal court in Lagos set the ball rolling when they ruled that card reader(and rightly so) was not part of the electoral law..let the present inec and nass amend the law to include card reader |

odeotito: Very very incisive, cogent, apt, informed and aposite analysis. The Supreme Court of Nigeria says the need to do substantial justice and not technical considerations should guide Judges in delivering judgments yet it went ahead to deliver a manifestly unjust decision. The common man who witnessed first hand the happenings during the Governorship elections in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States know so and must have scant, if any regard, for The Supreme Court. Justice must not only be done but be seen to have been done! INEC is now in a quandary as to what to do with the card readers that had done so much to sanitise and validate our electoral process. Isn't Buhari correct, in retrospect, that The Judiciary is a cog in the wheel of the fight against corruption in Nigeria? blame the court of appeal in Lagos..they are the ones that set the ball rolling on the card reader issue |

WisdomCanada: I had a dream, last night, the supreme court ruled that the cancelled LGAs must remain canceled, and Otti won, and Ikpeazu refused to vacate seat, the seat was like a very fine car where Ikpeazu was sitting, and some other people inside the car like Abaribe or Eziuche Ubani pleaded him to vacate, that the law must stand, Otti never knew they had something bad in mind, when Otti entered the Car(Government house) his supporters filled the car to congratulate him, Ngwa men and women mobbed the car, Otti was without securities, so the forced the car door open and shot him, the driver and some of his supporters in the car rushed him to a very far hospital that night, the Ngwa clan was happy they have killed Otti, but when Otti was rushed to the hospital, he has already swollen, it was a very local hospital, then the doctor attended to him immediately and he survived.
Moral of this dream(Not interpretation), our Ngwa brothers and PDP supporters in our Abia state shouldn't take their grievances to a severe level if their brother happens to lose at the supreme court, let them remember that their brother is sitting on a stolen mandate.
I had a dream after INEC declared Ikpeazu winner of the last April pools. A chief Judge was driving Otti and Ikpeazu in a car, Ikpeazu sitting in front and Otti at the back, they drove to a destination where the chief Judge ordered Ikpeazu to go over to the back seat while the person entitled to sit at the front (Alex Otti) takes his rightful position. The dream didn't come through at the tribunal but at the appeal court. enyi stop creating unnecessary tensions with all these tale by moonlight |
