InyinyaAgbaOku: Ewi being a rat is just like the lion belonging to the cat family. Igbos don't eat rats Biko. it is still essentially a cat because it belongs to the cat family..cat like rat are more of generic names for a group of animals that have the same features whether big or small..those things we call rats have their own peculiar name which is different from those smaller or bigger...ewi is a rat albeit a giant one or haven't you heard lions, leopard and cheetahs refered to as African big cats? |

murphyibiam15: i think i have got ur point....but we know quite well that Nigeria is overdependent on crude and gas for power generation and may not think of using coal...afterall coal has been available all these years if we are to go by this story then fg has given the states free hand to mine their solid mineral resources so if a company that gas history in using coal for power comes so the state should say no we are only interested in using crude or gas for power? So fg would not welcome it? Because coal has not been utilized all these yrs? I dont get your point |

murphyibiam15: china by far uses nuclear reactors and hydropower for electricity generation and moreover we are talking about Nigeria here and not china china still largely uses coal power plants if you do your research..it does not mean that nuclear and hydro are not used ..so what if it nigeria we are talking about?if a private company wants to use coal for power generation and finds out it is profitable should govt stop it? |
Politics › Re: FG Permit States To Explore Solid Minerals In Their Domains by asha80(m): 8:54am On Jan 15, 2016 |
murphyibiam15: that is theoretical....in science we have theoretical things and practicable things....nobody will go along way using coal to generate electricity when there is oil and gas and the price has even fallen.....coal was used in the olden days and around the 15th century..
lets be practical why then are china and India still using largely coal for power generation? |

enigma2007: I dont think he meant that... Akaujaa's response to him was on point...People should think before criticizing
On global warming... Getting governments to reduce emissions in some countries is going to be tough o! eg countries like china and India...i once heard an indian mp say something like the developed countries maximized coal and fossil fuel in their development before deviating so they should allow us(Indians) to go through the same process too |
Politics › Re: FG Permit States To Explore Solid Minerals In Their Domains by asha80(m): 4:33pm On Jan 14, 2016 |
Akaujaa: Usually, I'm not supposed to dignify you by replying you but from your comment, it is obvious you lack real education. Let me say this to educate you a little and then refer you to your elementary science text book(if you have one). The importance of coal in this 21st century cannot be overemphasized because of the following reasons: 1. Thermal or steam coal is used for power generation and its one of the cheapest means. 2. Mettalurgical coal is used in steal production 3. Coal can be used by the chemical and manufacturing industries 4. Refined coal tar is used to manufacture chemicals such as creosote oil, naphthalene, phenol and benzene, carbon fibre, activated carbon and silicon metal. 5. Coal can be exported to countries like Russia, America, England and other countries with severe cold weather conditions where it can be used to generate heat. 6. Above all, the exploration of coal will create job opportunities for the unemployed. So how is coal exploration irrelevant in this 21st century? Talk is cheap. I think he meant the issue of carbon gas emissions and global warming due to 'dirty coal'... |

Goke7: did you read the story very well? pls read again I have read it said that 'fg has exclusive rights' but ' Constitution backs state government to set up corporation to exploit mineral resources in their domain'. However my question is this how many states that really done it? Is there an unseen hand that does not really allow states to do that? |
Politics › Re: FG Permit States To Explore Solid Minerals In Their Domains by asha80(m): 11:43am On Jan 14, 2016 |
Inspectahdeck: Great development.
Now states with solid mineral can improve their IGR and rely less on federal government.
This will also create jobs of youths in such states.
A lot of untapped resources in Nigeria e.g. Bitumen in ondo state etc. fg has to come out and make broad based statement on this and if possible a constitutional backing should be enshrined..mere mouthing it off does not cut it. |

But one thing is certain, people will always play with the emotions of the easterner, due to our impatience. look I am interested in what happens around here so pardon me if I dont subcribe to this 'emotion' or impatience talk...as it is now there seems to be fuel in other parts of the country selling at normal prices at least by major marketers but here at least in owerri it is being sold higher or totally absent in the case of owerri for at least two days now even by major oil firms and i am supposed to be patient?? |
