Politics › Re: Youths Plan Nationwide Protest Over Rising Fuel Prices, Scarcity by Atonto: 6:56pm On Nov 17, 2022 |
grandstar: Many thanks for your response. It too was very objective.
What most Nigerians fail to realise is that the subsidy is keeping them impoverished. They fail to realise that it strains the Naira causing it to lose value.
It also creates a massive hole in the budget forcing the government to borrow, crowding out private borrowers. It might be worse now with government borrowing directly from the CBN. This fuels inflation.
Worse,it discourages investment into refining. This is the biggest disservice that the subsidy does to the economy
Had the fuel price been deregulated at far back as 1999, by now, the country should be refining about 2m bpd of crude oil. Dango the refinery alone would employ nothing less than 8,000 engineers. That's excluding other highly skilled staff from other professions. With 2mbpd, that would be at least 30,000 engineers.
The GSM operators were allowed to fix their price and this led to massive investment in the industry which had a transformative effect on the economy. It was a sector that played a prominent role in the re-basing of Nigeria's GDP to $500bn in 2013.
The benefits of deregulated pricing of petrol will far outstrip that of the GSM mobile in the Nigerian economy. We are subsidizing fuel for almost all the west Africa nations, through the illegality of Round tripping. At the end of the day, we end up sending our foreign reserves into the pocket of few corrupt and powerful individuals. In as much as the price of fuel is not market driven, no investor will invest in that sector, even our refinery will not work. As a people, we need to understand this and support the removal of subsidy even though it will create a temporary hardship, but the nation will spring forth from this and the Govt will not have any excuse to give on how our money is being spent. We need to reject this entitlement mentality, that the Corrupt few are using to set us on collusion cause, with the Govt, anytime we hear of subsidy removal. Even, some so called Labor union leaders are not exempted in these sharp practices. Reason why they are always quick to incite and mobilize people against any form of subsidy removal as if they are helping us. The goal should be for us to return to a Producer nation and not a consumer nation. |

grandstar: He is uninformed.
If NNPC was to follow best practices in the oil industry, the price of petrol would be sold at a deregulated price, probably hovering around N700.
The primary problem is the petrol subsidy. It's presently too high and Meole Kyari has been crying out, with the president being unresponsive.
At the very least, the government should increase the price to N450 per litrw. This would reduce the level of the subsidy and reduce pressure on the foreign reserves. It might also lead to some much needed appreciation of the Naira.
I suspect the president might want to keep the price the same, lest any increase in price leads to discontent, sending a large swathe of the electorate into the opposition arms This is apt and straight to the point. The only comment devoid of political and ethnic sentiment i've read so far. Is either some people don't read or they don't understand the global political climate at this period. The price of Fuel cannot go down, in as much we are not the one refining it. Increase in price is a global disaster exasperated by the Ukraine and Russia war. The issue of Subsidy is another colossal mistake of Nigeria and her entitlement generation. For us to really know where we stand, subsidy must go and accountability must prevail. This is no Govt doing, it is just the latest pandemic around and no country is immune to it. We just need to be factual and look for a way forward. Government at this election period will not make mistake of removing subsidy. But we should be ready to support whoever win the 2023 election on subsidy removal. that's just the way to go. |

YorubaBigot: The average Igbo man i know care less about the yoruba man next door, they are business oriented and more interested in minding their business, but here you are seeing them as your headache thats why you said you are in a competition with them
Irony when you are preaching against oneness yet you talk about bigotry, my brother look into the mirror and see the real bigot
Yorubas, Igbos are not your problem. Look beyond tribalism for once and face real issues. All your hypocrisy will not help you. Leave Igbos alone Tactically coating your Political campaign for PDP with a script of unity and oneness, pretending to be above ethnic malignment cannot help you. Come out and campaign for your prefer candidate. Average igbo man are business minded, yes, those are the one that have left the shore of the South east and are enlightened. The others are farmers just like we have in the core south west village too. I stand by my words and my quote into the past on Ethnic alignment when it come to voting a Yoruba man. Immediately Obi was chosen, average igbo man became skewed judgmentally towards ethnic dimension. if you like you can claim ignorant or pretend it is not. My point, leave Yoruba out of it. Advice your blodas too to choose beyond ethnic line. Meanwhile, is Moghalu not there, is Sowore not there...why PDP?. It shows that is about party and not about candidate. Trying to use wool to cover others eyes. We know una. |

YorubaBigot: My yoruba people, let us for once eschew tribalism and ethnoCentism and be patriotic this time. All you supporting buhari i want to ask you one simple question: what offence commited by GEJ that has not been committed by buhari, even in excess? All the incompetences and cluelessness that we acused Jonathan of, buhari has proven to be not just incompetent and clueless but also very lifeless and useless.
I voted buhari/osinbajo in 2015, but they have failed us woefully, lets try Atuku/Obi in 2019 if they fail we vote them out in 2023.
The fact that you support buhari because of osinbajo shows that you are not just self centered ans selfish but also myopic. If you really mean well for this country then lets join hands and send buhari packing. Buhari has proven to be a monumental failure of garguantuan proportions
I enjoin every reasonable and sane yoruba man to join hands with Atiku/Obi to get nigeria working again and make nigeria better
Yoruba Ronu!!! Some uninformed full this blog oo, i doubt if you are YORUBA seff... Did the other group ever support yoruba...so we should leave our own brother and start jumping along with the kangaroos ... If you know history, you will not be talking like this. Abiola, Obasonjo, even Buhari and Osinbajo never get their support. thay are fill with envy especially whenever Yoruba is involve...its like we are in a competition with them...my bloda...let them vote their Obi and we vote our Osinbajo jejeli....Don't come and preach oneness here when your heart is filled with bigotry |

if you visit abia state you will feel sorry and ashamed for Igbo here. very local and underdeveloped region despite they've Governor yet Lagos that had been a face of Nigeria under APC needs freedom but Abia and Igbo land need what? ask them
thinking APC will loose Lagos is a joke taken too far. Tinubu didn't loose Lagos during obj political tyranny govt, Tinubu didn't loose Lagos to Gej an incumbent opposition party. is it when they now have boss at the federal level they will loose Lagos? Haba now
is not a must to talk when you don't have idea of politics. none of east states provide a governor without their successor and someone influencing their emergence, what's Tinubu offence? supporting Buhari in 2015? MCMLXXVI: When will this foolish, poorly-trained hooligan woman grow the hell up and stop wailing from one end to another with these useless sobby letters? One lesson you must learn in life is that, no matter how good you think you are at cussing people out, you will eventually run into someone MUCH MORE EXPERIENCED than you are!
This foolish disgrace of a woman obviously began to falsely think herself a giant when she displayed her repulsive lack of manners around the more cultured men like Obanikoro, Saraki and Ekweremadu and didn't get bitchslapped; she suddenly believed she was above reproach.
Unfortunately for her, she met her long-overdue waterloo when she took her madness to an equally uncultured lunatic, Dino Melaye, and got bashed thoroughly! Now just look at the shameless iddiiot running from one corner to another, reporting Dino Melaye like a nursery school student. "I will report you to my mummy!" "I will report you to Auntie" "I will report you to our headmaster" "I will report you to my beeg broda. My beeg broda wee come and beat you!"
Woman, YOU GOT SERVED!!! Get over it already! Next time, learn to choose your battles wisely. It took me less time to understand how you managed to get this number of likes for your foolishness. was your thinking cap fried? |
