Raider76: They didn't pay the N80B. The amount to be paid in the end will depend on the debts. This is where I smell some deceit. Why mention the N80B when it is not the final price? Oil dey ur head.... what they are simply saying is that whoever is being owed should come forward to be settled from the 80 bn. After settling creditors and netting out the cash and net current assets, they'll settle Otudeko and his cohorts with what is left. Ecobank has just shown up to say: They are owing us oooo. More creditors will show up with time. By the way even if FMN pays a 75% premium to acquire majority shareholding, it doesn't mean the minority shareholder will get same premium. I remember when 11 Plc acquired Mobil oil Plc, That wasn't the case. Indeed if FMN ends up being shortchanged in this deal.. they'll take some meat off the minority shareholders. and SEC will do absolutely nothing about it. |

It seems there is a leadership tussle in GTB which will lead to a close vote in the AGM.
GT bank's staff are calling shareholders and asking them to just sign the proxy form nominating the MD to represent them. They make it sound like a priviledge that the MD is representing someone.
This country eh.. they just think shareholders don't know their rights.
Anyone with info on whatever it may be that is going on should please update us. |

onegentleguy: Just be careful dear. As I said then, there might be interest given that other better coys are also rushing up in price, but just be vigilant.
…and yes, it (universal ins) might merge with a coy like AFRI ALLIANCE INS or both forming a bond to merge with any of the few as cited in my initial post, given the nature of their equity structure and BS stand(they have some link and possible unfinished business together). Both were amongst the coys I highlighted might well tour that line. (refer to my 1st post from 2 days ago) AFRI ALLIANCE actually owns over a quarter(approx 26%) of UNIVERSAL INS while Stanbic Ibtc Nominees holds over 9.3%... in turn, UNIVERSAL INS owns an approx 5.8% stake in AFRI ALLIANCE, while one chief, Mr Cyril Onyekwelu Ajagu owns a near 53.4% stake (in afri ins), via the CONAU GROUP (owners of FRENCHIES FOODS).
However, my model which seeks to weigh the health stand of company's in the sector using yardsticks like CGPR, ROTE, Net ROIC, Sloan ratio, CCC efficiency, Solvency Margin (surplus/deficit peg in view) etc as a barometer and raking-off risk shows that both coys have some worrying items in their financial print.
A coy like MUTUAL BENEFITS rates so high and so well!! …even well ahead of LINKAGE, WAPIC and PRESTIGE that are currently trading for higher prices. I see Mr MUTUAL B heading towards the N1-1.5 peg in the mid-term if management can 'keep up the pace'. Aside the big names (CUSTODIAN, AIICO, MANSURED etc), other coys like VERITAS KAPITAL, REGENCY ALLIANCE, CHI, LASACO, ROYAL EX, STI and to a lesser extent, GUINEA also rates quite good. …I particularly like the 1st 6 in that order. Don’t have much time for further breakdown now.
…Play safe!!
Selah Agree with you. I wish I had bought more MUTUAL BENEFITS at N0.20. I still had to buy more at N0.36. By my analysis, anythting less than N1.00 is still good for this company. I will only consider selling if it gets to around N1.50 |

Mutual Benefits appears to be on steroids. People have finally realised the value here. This stock traded at N0.20 with no takers, at a P/E of less than 1 for months.
I'm not giving up my shares until N1.00 |

WoundedLamb: Thanks for this insight.
However, I think you've just watered down her complaints and placed yours as "a better complaint". Bro, there is no such as "a better complaint" cause you don't get to tell people what they should complain about; you aren't in their shoe. You used the vague expressions "main table" and "not main table" to downplay the whole thing but if you throw more light, you'd realize it's not really far from what she said. The only difference is that she gave the details of what makes the umunna table the "main table" while you didn't. And like they say, the devil is in those details. In other words, what you referred to as the main-table/not-main-table concept was exactly what she elaborated about and that's her complaint. She said the fact that the men's table was were all visitors go to on arrival and drop their items which technically then belong to the men (a concept you conveniently summarized as "main table" ) is problematic.
As for the sitting issue, you're probably right she missed the sitting arrangement but it wouldn't be fair to just conclude based of our general understanding of the Igbo culture. I don't know the culture like you cause I've not really lived in Nigeria but I go home often enough and I've been to two burial ceremonies before, and the sitting arrangements were not exactly the same. At the first one, I saw the widow's section, the men's section and the section for the daughters. Each of these sections had tables in front of it. The dead man's brothers and his sons sat at their own table while other males sat behind. The widow sat at her own table surrounded by co-wives. One would think the man's daughters would also sit at their own table but instead, the eldest daughters in the extended family took that position. At the second ceremony, each of the daughters came with her own husband and they got a section each.
I don't know what the arrangement was at her father's burial ceremony but it would be unfair to just waive her complaints aside on the grounds of what we believe ab ideal sitting arrangement to be. She's not exactly stupid so if she asked why there wasn't any seat for them, it's probably cause she didn't see that arrangement and the response she got goes to show your assumption might be miles away from reality. Otherwise, the man would have just pointed her to the location where she was supposed to sit.
My summary is, except we were there, we're in no position to counter her narration of her own personal experience. Happy new year! I clearly see your point. I have learnt from experience that if you're on the discriminated side, you need to speak up and get justice but that the road to justice is faster when you go attack the discrimination as it is not in an embellished form. It means taking more time to check and observe to you can come up with an insurmountable argument. For example, we know how property is allocated to a man's male heirs by default, but it was through a pain staking search that some folks in my village found a way to give a particular man's daughters equal property rights with his sons. The argument was so powerful that the men couldn't even debate the arbitration. Based on how very highly I place her, and what I perceive to be her level of knowledge of the Igbo culture and its merits and demerits, I expected a close to impeccable argument from her as regards this topic instead of talking about things like a dangling organ. 3 Likes |

Mynd44 Lalasticlala The Igbo culture like other cultures is misogynistic but she has done some embellishment of the level of misogyny. For those who do not understand, while the sons sit with all the sons of the extended family (called the Umunna), the daughters also sit with all the daughters of the extended family (called the Umuada). The difference is that the Umunna table is the main table while the Umuada table is not the main table. That is the extent of the misogyny there is and not to say there is no place at all for them to sit. That's a no no. That she had to ask where to sit even shows she doesn't even understand the culture in depth because if she did, she would known she had a good place to sit as one of the persons in charge of tending to the umu ada on that day. Then, a better complaint would have been, why are the kids not all on the main table together. 10 Likes |

Moda1: For this reason, someone held the excess of 2.2m paid to her and said it will be returned to them when her 6months term elapses. She made the right decision i guess . This is one of the reasons why they need to clean up the system. People are overpaid for no reason. People are underpaid or not paid at all for no reason. It is better to have a system which gives Caesar what is due to Caesar. Nothing more nothing less. Why the hurry to continue to run a woefully defective system. The mess was created by them. Let's give them time to clean their mess. For me a red flag is if they delay payments to online investors. For now that is not the case. I can confirm and verify they are not short of funds. |

I've not commented here for a while because after reading some negative comments here, I took out some weeks to do some investigation about MBA to aid my personal decision making about my investments there.
I solely focused on their ability to pay and believe me, it can be checked by going through their online imprints.
I found out the following:
(1) MBA has 'a lot of money' right now. I presume that should be enough to pay ROIs and even most of the capital. (2) MBA has been doing well in their forex positions so far. Call it luck or skill. I believe it is both. They can therefore sustain payment for a reasonable time. I can't give dates because I don't have all the elements to do the calc. I also don't know what their future performance will be. (3) I don't have any info about the reasons for the delays but I'm getting assurances that the delays will be cleared with time. I don't know whether to believe that or not.
MBA can have any other problem (network, migration etc )but it is definitely not having enough money to pay. I can tell you that. If you hear it as an excuse from MBA, just take as a lie and foul play. |
