efosases:I doubt anybody here can advise you on how to tackle this. It's the school's perogative to consider request using their established terms and conditions as well as policies. So if they say the can't issue a new letter to you till February , then you will have to wait till then. Alternatively, you may want to further explain to them your situation and there could be an exceptional consideration on your case since it is a deferal and not an admission consideration. This is just my opinion, the school will have to decide. |

olalives:Only on very rare cases. Once you request for your passport, you automatically have asked for your application to be withdrawn. Nevertheless, you could still have then send back you passport alone but again, it will be dependent on the nature of the urgency, time from date of application and the chances your application have. 1 Like |

Holyfield1:Hmmmm. This is actually the second case i have seen on this matter. Here is the thing, CIC have listed 'authorized' representatives and how to know them on their website that applicant can use. They are considered as credible to represent you. They have a unique CIC reg number and are accredited to render immigration related services to Canada. This category of people are the ones considered as 'authorized'. This however does not mean an 'agent' cannot help you, if they have this identity with CIC, there would be no issue but because some of the agents in Nigeria don't have it, they avoid declaring it in their client's application but trust CIC, they know the 'tastes' of some of their act. This is why you were asked to fill the 'use of representative' form but your agent even cancelled it even when CIC was informed. This act automatically would mean something is fishy which could induce the decision of the officer coupled with the fact that you did not provide the evidence that the agent is authorized. So at this point, if you were welcomed to reapply, then it is good. Reapply as the primary applicant without the use of a representative(agent). This would be your viable option now. In a similar case of yours, the applicant asked for reconsideration but the Accra visa office replied with this particular line " please note, there have been no error of judgement or decision on your case. Also note that little weight is given to new information that could have been provided at the time of application because applicants are responsible to submit everything to be considered when applying. In addition, restating the information provided in the application is rarely grounds for reconsideration as it was already reviewed by the officer" So depending on the letter, your best bet is to reapply without the agent's help and must indicate this as well. 1 Like |

Neroirab:Just go there with your international passport and the biometrics request letter CIC sent. You will also need to give them #450 for sms charge( i still don't understand this fee cos i hardly see folks getting the sms, just emails). That's all you need to get your fingerprint and photo taken. 1 Like |

Emmm, to everyone who sent me their SOP for review and are yet to get a response from me, please bear with me, i will revert back to everyone hopefully before the end of this week. I apologize for the delay and also understand you are working against time. My mail box has seen plenty incoming emails lately. I'm trying hard to see that i do the best i can do to revert back on each SOP and other related issues so we can send in our applications or resolve pending issue(s). I pray our desires would be fulfilling and we achieve the positive outcome. Regards. 5 Likes |

afehin71:I can relate and understand the frustration. But u know, when it comes to immigration related issues, you have to be very careful so you don't end up messing up things. These folks are psychologist and know how we Nigerians go about migrating to developed countries. So the fish out people who are genuine and create avenues for different intentions. eg, study route, the express entry route etc. Alternatively, you can think about what you truly want, start now to build atleast one year activity in it even while you are studying in UI. find out how you can be relevant here in Nigeria proffering solutions, what your plans would be after study and you MUST truly show passion in that area atleast with some evidence and not just writting. Don't forget the know you now. |

afehin71:You are still very young i suppose and and the more you present to the officers that you are not very sure about what you truly want to study and why you are not studying in Nigeria, the more your chances are reduced. Your purpose of visit will be questioned 9/10 times considering your profile. The more consistent and more passion you show, heightens your chance and would make you a genuine student. Anyway, in whatsoever decision you make, don't show desperation to go to Canada, you will spoil your chances. 1 Like |

afehin71:Okay. But i don't know if you understood my points. Your plan now should be for the future and a career in social work after completing your current program. Your current activity(undergrad) mustn't be in social work. You can do some independent activity(ies) in social work or better still some internship maybe when you are on holiday from school. It will build your profile when you consider going for social work in Canada. This is what i mean. A delibrate act to achieve your desire.(Unless social work is really not your passion)However,if you still feel you want to reapply, still up to you. Regards. |
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by Austinpee4: 8:00pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
afehin71:Okay. Well, the officer is obviously aware of the prospects of social workers in Canada than in Nigeria where there is seemingly less activity in this area compared to how opening it is in Canada. In Nigeria, NGOs, UN and other humanitarian organisations are but a few that have direct involvement in this area with most of them actually requiring advanced degree for employment especially the UN. So this is where the issue is. Social work is more lucrative in Canada than in Nigeria and being that you have to satisfy an officer that you will return, it would be a little tough but not impossible to convince them that you are not actually using the study route to migrate considering the proposed program prospects in both countries as well as the expenses. Anyway, it still depends on you. If i were you, while studying to complete my undergraduate here in Nigeria, i would get some work experience maybe at the intern level in the social work area, build it up alittle, complete my current program in UI and then possibly apply for a post-graduate study in social work. It will 1. Show your interest in this area. 2. Show an officer that it is a program you truly want to have a career in because they now have your profile and will compare it when you reapply in future. Like i earlier mentioned, make it a delibrate strategy from now, get more experience, research and activity in Social work and trust me, even if you apply for a study permit with a PGD in social work immediately you finish your study in UI, you will stand a chance as it would be seen as a change of field that requires requisite academic knowledge to advance in owing to your previous activities but different degree. So make it a calculated strategy for the long run and things will play out. This is what i think though. It's still up to you. |
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by Austinpee4: 6:31pm On Oct 02, 2017 |
afehin71:Oh i see! Well, like you have already seen in the officer's note. He/she was not satisfied about the prospects and benefits of your proposed program in Nigeria when weighed against the cost of completing it in Canada as well as other reasons to warrant such study in Canada. so another question here would be what are you going to study? Also, having 17.4m in the account may not amount to sufficient for you considering the duration of your program and also considering how the funds were accumulated. Undergraduate study has weight financially. The officer considered the possibility of generating the equivalent of your tuition and living expenses for subsequent years. Undergraduate financial burden is more and now that this information is on your records, you will have to even do more in all ramification to get a re-application approved. Well, i don't know how you may see this but i would suggest you finish your undergraduate program in Nigeria and then apply to study at graduate level in Canada. I know it may look like a long time from now but your chances would be higher, the financial burden on your sponsor(Father) will be less and overall, it would show that you are not desperate to study in Canada. There would have been a significant progress in your circumstance since you last applied and officers would be more convinced that you would leave at the end of your study. So i suggest you diligently complete your undergraduate study since you are already in 200L, get a good grade and there would be alot that will play out to your advantage in no distant time. Let it be a strategy now for you. This is only my opinion. 2 Likes |

afehin71:I'm guessing you are going for an undergraduate program. I see purpose of visit, insufficient funds, personal assets and financial status here. Who is your sponsor and what does he/she do? Also, how much is your yearly tuition? |

guzenaira: Nice one! Just to add, @jacksonyito, in drafting your SOP, ensure you explicitly and strategically point out your desirables in Nigeria, you can extensively make some research about the current area(s) in your field and in Nigeria that you intend to be relevant in upon completion. Largely write about your prospects, problems you have identified, how you want to go about it and the significance of a degree from Canada, the content of your program in comparism to the one in Nigeria(you can pick 2 to 3 courses and discuss the difference in their research and framework components ) This will eventually mitigate against the officer's thought of you not pursuing similar program in Nigeria. You have a good profile but the officer is not convinced you would leave upon completion. The stronger your passion for Nigeria, how you intend to tackle it's enormous problems especially in your area (because this is where it would be easiest for you) and how well you lay down the things you have identified that need urgent solution, the better you would satisfy them that you will leave. Ensure your SOP is devour of ineptly written statements and especially generic ones, own the SOP, make it your tool and make it your own mind, brilliance and aspirations. The Officer would see through it. Don't beg, don't talk ill about Nigeria in any way,it would contradict all other statements of you wanting to come back. Nobody would want to come back to a country they are not passionate and patriotic about. This should be your pointer in completing your SOP. All the best. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

justwise:Hmmm.. Like you already know, it is not typical of my responses to support frivolous acts. The case was using a different sponsor. My response was on that premise and an example of having same employer and using a different sponsor other than the previous sponsor who happened to be the employer. This is what i advised and not regarding his pending misrepresention which obviously he didn't give full details in his submission as well as his indulgence. I couldn't have advised an act of misrepresentation, certainly not me. |

jnyuwa02:Oga, calm down. Don't always take things out of context. I didn't advise what you just mentioned. I only said that he can be an employer and not a sponsor which is the issue on ground. The moniker case was him wanting to use his Dad's statement of account and his own statement of account in the reapplication which automatically would mean a different sponsorship. He feared the contradictions in the declaration already made by sponsor as being both sponsor and employee as he claimed. Change of sponsorship was my focal points and not what you are understanding. Go and read my responses again. Don't be fun of putting things in a different perspective to make your points. Let's together look at the subject matter first before giving other additional advise and not the other way round. Biko, don't quote me again. I'm sure the moniker knows the best course of action to take regarding his case. Happy independence day and happy new month! 1 Like |

jnyuwa02: jnyuwa02:The issue is changing sponsor. Nobody is encouraging misrepresentation and nobody will. That somebody comes here to make a claim of using an agent shouldn't mean that there was an act of "ineffective assitance" from the agent. We actually don't know how and what the two parties agreed on or did. If a moniker here wants X advise, give a direct X advise and leave it at that. There may be alot we don't know of. The responses were on changing sponsor and with the little i know, there is no issue in changing sponsors irrespective of who his employer is or what CIC has as information. If the applicant feels he misrepresented information, then it's up to him/her to handle it in the best possible way. So your advise of "Coming clean" by explaining to officers that an agent misled a person is subjective. You don't know if there was anything dirty on the part of the applicant or the agent and as far as the embassy is concerned, such individual used the agent's service at his or her own risk and the applicant would be held responsible since a case of 'use of representative' was not communicated to the embassy. We can't base an advise here in totality on what a person says about another person. I think we should address related issues on the cardinal points of getting a study permit approval and the requirements of a study permit. This is what would matter in the long run. 4 Likes |

johnsonm2g:He can still be your employer but not your sponsor. So there is still nothing here that should be an issue. Fill exactly what you filed in your last application. This is why it is always advisable to be consistent with PROOF especially dealing with immigration issues. If the actually have filed your details in the GCMS database, it will be there for a long time and will be used as reference for other of your applications even when you get pass the study permit. So make sure your info are same, if there are any changes, back it up with proof. Like i mentioned about the sponsor, there is no issue in using a different sponsor after using another in an earlier application. 1 Like |

johnsonm2g:I see no issue here. In as much as you used a different sponsor in your previous application, it doesn't mean you can't use another. Proceed with your bank statements and that of your dad. CIC will be ONLY interested in funds available to you and your access to it. Your new application will be treated as a new one and must meet the requirements. There is no contradiction and there will be no need to explain anything to them. You have a new sponsor in your dad and yourself. It is even advisable you go with this sponsorship. It is reliable. Officers are more interested in your access to funds and how reliable your sponsor is to meet the responsibility. The closer they are to you, the better. You have no issue here. |

5454Darese:Every application is unique in it's own way and tell it's own story irrespective of whether there is an SOP or not. Some applicants tell their story from their achievements and how progressive their academic inclination appears. SOP like i always say can help your application and at the same time mar it. Depending on what an applicant is trying to convey, it may or may not be necessary. Two persons recently got their application approved without one. Mine too was approved without one. So it all depends on what you want the VO to know about your application/intention. That someone included SOP to his/her application shouldn't automatically translate to it being compulsory. The VO are already trained to know what would make sense and what wouldn't. However, i still recommend it especially when there are discrepancies or when you need to share your passion around your proposed program or need to clarify concerns of a previous refusal. It whatsoever case, know why you are including it. 2 Likes |

@Aallizzwellwole, This is not what i mean. This is the letter that was sent to you when your application was refused. The GCMS note is different from this. It is a report on why your application was refused usually summarized by the officer who reviewed your application. It is also not sent to the applicant at a time of refusal. Thankfully, applicant still have access to this report through the freedom of information act. You only need to order for it, check the first page of this page like i mentioned and you will find the link. |

shuqroh:The problem is obviously that you did not meet the requirement of a study permit in the area of sufficient funds. Having huge available balance sometimes would note mean an applicant has met the requirement. There may be unconvincing accumulation of the funds available(atleast in the eyes of the officer), accessibility of the funds to you the applicant, your sponsor's financial status and capacities as well as their source of income. All these are usually looked into critically before an applicant who is sponsored meet the requirement. In your case, you may have to pay your full first year tuition and have your living expenses( minimum of 10,000 CAD) possibly in convertible currency to truly allay any doubt regarding funds available to you. Another very good thing to do before you reapply is to get your GCMS file, it will also help you narrow what to tackle. |
