Cherryola:Let me help here with this so you don't have to ask repeatedly. Proof of your co sponsor's income will be more of interest to the VO. Your co-sponsor definitely would not have an income from an unlicensed filling station. So you wanting to prove his/her business and also showing he earns from it using an unlicensed station most likely would not convince the officer. It's either the individual owns a filling station and shows that he has been earning from it to enable him/her support you or provide an alternative source of income. This is what they will look out for and not what he claims he owns that would not provide for your support. However,if the person has alternative source(s) of income which is sustainable for your study, he/she can add the filling station registration document to show co sponsor has an asset. Sponsorship is about the applicant and how funds would be generated to support his/her study. |

@akdam, Documents to show at the point of entry will depend on the immigration officer attending to you and your answers to questions asked. It could be from all vital documents(offer letter, correspondence letter from the embassy, scholarship letter etc) to non aside your international passport. So ensure you have all important document on your carry-on bag. For proof of funds, if you have paid your tuition, have your fees receipts with you, if you haven't, bank statements used would be fine. If you have a sponsor, go along with copy of the sponsorship letter etc. There is a possibility that they MAY not ask for all these documents but i'd rather advise that you have them with you. 1 Like |

thefacelessguy: Significant partner in this regards mean your LEGALLY married spouse or a common-law partner(you’ve been living together continuously for one year, without any long periods apart with evidence of cohabiting or joint activities, etc). Aside these two unions, you won't be able to travel with her as a spouse or "significant partner" to Canada. So NO, it is not possible to travel together to Canada if you are not in any of the aforementioned unions with legal and evidential documentation. 1 Like |

For newbies, silent followers etc. Endeavour to read CIC's websites on requirements and instructions. Also download the Visa office instructions from the application package too. jnyuwa02: Contrary to your statement as emboldened, applicants are required to show and fill funds for the FIRST year of study only and not for the entire program. Officers will asses the applicant's ability to meet the requirements using the fee scheduled as written on the offer letter which most times is for one year. It is required that applicants indicate and show funds for the first year of study only. Most especially funds for tuition as written on the offer letter as well as a minimum of 10,000CAD. Here is a snapshot of the requirements from CIC's website. 9 Likes

Thebushboy1:1. There is no rule of thumb prescribed for a type or class of sponsor. Anybody can sponsor your study. Notwithstanding, the closer the sponsor(s) is/are, the more credible he/she appears. That being mentioned, funds for your tuition and living expenses MUST be available. In being available, it must be devour of inaccessibility(You not having direct access to declared funds). The best way around this is for your bro to transfer these funds to you in completeness. Also be lerry of an offshore account of a sponsor. It is most times not accessible by the applicants and officers are aware. You hardly would satisfy them using this type of account if your sponsor with an offshore account have not transferred funds to either your student account in Canada, in convertible currency or at least paid tuition. funds should either be in current country of residence or destination of study of the applicant. The applicant access to funds is KEY. In what ever case, you should have access to your tuition and living expenses of a minimum of 10,000CAD. 2. It is only logical to show proof of anything you claim. You surely do not want an officer to doubt the integrity of any information or documents submitted or claimed. So all vital information/claims should be evidenced. 1 Like |

TEECANN: I see your worry surrounds the 'Dual' intent. Firstly, study permit application is totally independent of the express entry. Each category has it's own requirements and guidelines. But then, we all know the benefits of studying as a PR compared to studying as an international student. To you questions. 1.Accepting an offer as an international student would mean that your fees would be that of an international student and you will be subject to a study permit approval and conditions. Since both are in view/ongoing, continue with them. Which ever comes first, you opt for it. If it's the study permit, you proceed for your study and once the PR is ready, the school likely will revise your immigration status and reconsider your applied fees/tuition. So continue with both. 2. Your family members can always join you be it as an international student or as a PR. However, for a study permit, you will have to satisfy the visa officer that some home ties exist that will compel your return, this is probably where your wife and kids being in Nigeria would suffice( if you go alone first). In what ever case, i do not think you have anything to worry about. Keep both options open. Which ever comes first, you consider and make a decision. Alternatively, you can accept the admission once offered and differ it to a next start term while keeping an eye on the EE so you have a proper consideration while also not losing the admission considering all it took applying and also since it is a preferred for you. @Lovemeplease Because of the visa chances, try to secure a master admission if possible. Most schools have their requirements for each program published on their website. Once you and your wife are able to identify a school, i believe all necessary minimum requirements would be on the website. So start the search. Also and like it's frequently mentioned here, PGD/C program are work place demand programs. Most times, it favours technically inclined fields/career or used to lunch a new career in a new field other than the previous degree or atleast when an applicant can show that he/she needs the PGD/C as against a master degree or higher. So you and your wife should get this and work cogently in your choice of program so as to overcome the visa challenges. Once you are in Canada, you can choose to study any program of your choice but certainly at the same level of education as the one used for the study permit application. (Post-secondary education). 1 Like |

Lovemeplease: We love you!! Well, your financial capacity as to sponsoring your wife appears good but to start with, she needs to be admitted in a school first before these considerations are made. Both of you can use google to check out schools in Canada that match her interest preferably a master degree program(if she can get an offer) so that the visa chances can exponentially spring up. It will be on the basis of her admission that you two would know how much funds will be required at least for her tuition as the requirement of a minimum of 10,000CAD is standard. Every other thing in terms of your kids, category of visa as dependents can be framed upon at the later part of the process(visa application) after she has been offered admission as it is also paramount that her purpose of visiting Canada be in reasonable light regarding her present situation, circumstance, interest and overal goals. Most often, these are the key aspects officers look at when the review an application of a primary applicant(In your case, wife) before other considerations are made as both your visit and your kids' would be dependent on her study permit approval and conditions. Begin with securing admission that will project her as genuine in her study intention. Also, spread your search beyond Toronto. Apply to as much schools as possible. Once she is able to get admission else where and hopefully the study visa, she can still study in a school of her choice in Toronto. She will only need to transfer DLI(School).Don't limit it to Toronto alone. Regards. 3 Likes |

Niv25: Your intention of being genuine as to work and study in Canada is only normal and most people have such too but you see, things are not always the way it sounds or written on paper. Studying in Canada is very challenging and if your intention is to combine both even before you experience the system, then be prepared to be a little disappointed because a lot of factors will play in when the time comes. That being said, you need to identify what you truly want to study. It should be what your competence can match as well as what your experience, aspirations and interest can build upon. This is where you will start from. Your chances of getting a study visa to Canada will be drawn from your personal circumstance and those surrounding your proposed program. Don't let the issue of working and studying in Canada cloud your mind now, Chances around such opportunities will avail themselves as you reach that stage. You need to read this thread well. Understand the study route system, equip yourself with information that will help you decide on your course of actions(Choice of program, visa requirements etc) and then in a matter of time, you definitely will understand the difference in the theory and realities of working and studying in Canada. It is well within your full comprehension. Regards. 5 Likes |

ohizzyy7:The emergence and surge in applications in recent time from Nigerians using the study permit route for other purposes and previous events of the past in this light must have led to these stringent scrutiny of applications. Surprisingly,it's still unclear how they reach their conclusions on some erroneous decision even when there is clear evidence that proposed course of study is logical within the applicant's career path, sufficient funds etc. Maybe the discretion officers have is playing major role than the provisions of the IRP acts and regulations. 'Satisfying the officer'..... Just maybe! On the other hand and with the way and manner in which some applicants present their overall situation through the study permit application, it makes it easy for officers to reach conclusions that such applicants will not leave Canada at the end of authorized stay. Trying too hard to prove something is one major aspect people should pay attention to. Over analyzing is another, Poorly written SOP and choice of program are some of the things that would possibly raise their suspicion on the purpose of visit. Even if the onus is on each applicant to satisfy the VO, Officers still have it upon themselves to see through the intent and determine which application meet the requirements and worthy of their discretion. It's just what it is. They were employed and trained to deliver on this. Canada's immigration for "High risk" countries is also burdened on the circumstances surrounding the economic and social-political situation of the applicants and their countries of citizenship. Afteral and most often, the decision to travel to Canada for study from applicants from these countries is framed from a premise to get a better quality of education or living aside the standard provided in their countries. It's only unfortunate the situation. Prior event(s) of the applicant preceding an application in my opinion plays a significant role than the proposed purpose. However, i'm still of the opinion that a simple application meeting the laid down requirements, less complicated and with a good profile stand a high chance of the VO's nod. We just have to do all we have to do cogently and completely while also showing that the primary intention is to study. 6 Likes |

10shuare:Your sponsor does not have to be related to you. The VO was only not satisfied that your sponsor will truly sponsor you. I suggest you pay your first year tuition and have funds for your living expenses in convertible currency. Doing this will mean that you have access to funds for your first year which is the main thing officers look out for. You can add an affidavit of sponsorship from your sponsor too. 3 Likes |

Phocusjosh:I see. You also have not been involved in that and using it as a prospective would not mean that you will come back to it and it wouldn't just add up using that simply because you are not actively involved in the firm in any capacity aside owning it. Maybe if you had shown contracts, transactions or activities relative to what you claim you have going on or would return to(your firm), it would reduce the officer's suspicion that you would not leave Canada after your program or that there is great prospect for you with your program at least with your firm/business. It will make your purpose more deliberate. You need evidence than just writing. They just don't trust Nigerians completely, they believe any thing we say is a ploy to induce their judgment. Evidence would help more and because it can be used in a judiciary review process in a court should they make an error in law or judgement, it is treated with high regards than mere writing. Discretion is exercised when when an officer have to use the applicant's explanation and it can swing either ways. Noting beats evidence. They just can't help it. The IRP Act and regulation give complete accordance to evidence as a proof. The burden is will still be on you to satisfy the VO. I'll suggest you wait for your GCMS file before you proceed with your reapplication. It will help you. Regards. 1 Like |
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by Austinpee4: 11:02pm On Oct 24, 2017 |
Phocusjosh:Bro, sorry about the outcome of your application. Just like it's been mentioned already, you will need your GCMS file to best tackle the issues raised by the VO. However, let me explain this aspect of "Employment prospect" You were not refused for 'Current employment situation' which means your employment details, letter and ID served their purpose in your application. "Employment prospect in home country" in this case means the prospects of your proposed program in Nigeria upon completion. They have to see that the program you are going to study will be lucrative in Nigeria for you. If you had a future employment or needed the master to move to an advanced position in your current employment or had evidence of a business plan or even a study plan to explain or show how the master degree program would increase your chances of securing a better job upon graduation, it would have mitigated against that reason of refusal. So the onus is on you to satisfy the officer that something tangable or lucrative moving forward awaits you in Nigeria when you finish your program. This issue is about the prospect of your field as regards employability after your program and not your current employment situation. It is expected that the master degree will move your career forward, you have to explain and evidence how this is possible and also why you have to study your program in Canada. 3 Likes |

adey2014:Actually, it is not in the supervisor's position to determine who get admitted or who doesn't. The admission committee members(which may include the prospective supervisor) of the applicant's department makes the assessment and recommendation while the faculty of graduate and post-doctoral affairs ascertain other requirements are met before issuance of the offer of admission or rejection. So it is not solely dependent on the prospective supervisor to make this singular decision. The advantage an applicant get after securing a supervisor is that he/she (supervisor)will highly recommend the applicant during the committee's sitting for admission considerations. If other aspect of the application meets the requirements, there is high likely-hood such applicant MAY be admitted. Still no guarantee. Some programs insist securing a supervisor because the program is research intensive and mostly may not completely involve regular class room activities. You will need guidance and close monitoring. The world's solution of a problem in that aspect of your field could yield from your activity. |
