Land Rover today announces a limited-edition high-performance version of the iconic Defender, with up to 150 V8-powered examples re-engineered to celebrate the Land Rover marque’s 70th anniversary in 2018.

Defender Works V8 is the most powerful and fastest version that Land Rover has ever created. The 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 powertrain produces 400 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque (the standard Defender delivered 120 hp and 266 lb-ft). The Defender Works V8 will accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.6sec with a top speed of 171 km/hr.

“It’s fitting that we’ve been able to release the full potential of the iconic Defender, whose much-loved shape remains synonymous with Land Rover, 70 years since it was seen in public for the first time. "The idea of reintroducing a V8 Defender was something we were discussing as far back as 2014, when we were still building the Defender in Solihull. We knew the demand was there for a powerful and fast Defender; the Land Rover authenticity is the ultimate finishing touch for discerning clients purchasing these collector’s edition Defenders.” Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director.

The V8 powertrain will be fitted to 150 specially-selected and re-engineered Defenders for the 70th Edition, complemented by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with sport mode, uprated brakes and handling kit (springs, dampers and anti-roll bars). Full Windsor Leather interior trim covers the dashboard, door panels, headlining and Recaro sports seats. Land Rover Classic’s own Classic Infotainment System is also fitted.

The starting price is £150,000 which will be about N100million after shipping and clearing at the Nigerian port.

The answer is subjective as it depends on individuals. But for me, I will settle for the Venza for one major reason.. It still maintains the same design till date as against the Lexus RX that has been redesigned twice which will make the 2008 seem dated. You can even modify your Venza and make it look 2015.

I guess you meant the panoramic roof.

Director General of NADDC, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, MFR, today Tuesday January 16, 2018 in Abuja received a delegation of investors from a Chinese vehicle manufacturer, BYD Auto Industry Company Limited.

The visiting team from BYD comprised Messrs. Ramy Yao and Jens Wu, accompanied by the Nigerian Consultant, Mr. Toyin Oyewole of Lubcon Technologies.

Mr. Jelani Aliyu encouraged his guests to go beyond establishing only vehicle assembly plants but also vehicle service centers across the country.

He charged BYD to establish plant that could roll out vehicles suitable for the generality of Nigerians and Africans generally especially in the areas of low cost and adaptability to critical road conditions, weather and culture of the people.

The DG explained that NADDC was building three automotive laboratories in Lagos, Enugu and Zaria with a view to ensuring that vehicles, components and parts produced in Nigeria conformed to global standards.

Leader of the BYD team, Mr. Ramy Yao had expressed the interest of the Chinese company to establish a modern vehicle manufacturing plant and automotive battery manufacturing plant in Nigeria.

Ford begins introducing the coveted ST brand to its SUV lineup with the unveiling of the all-new Edge ST. Ford’s first SUV to be tuned by the Ford Performance team – features the most powerful V6 engine available in its class with a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine pumping out 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque.

It’s also outfitted for dynamic handling with a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive with selectable traction control, an available performance brake package, and ST-tuned sport suspension.

To complement its performance abilities, Edge ST features new front and rear styling, a wide mesh grille for optimal cooling, deep side skirts and dual-exhaust outlets. We all know that the car someone drives has a lot to say about his/her personality. You are not only addressed the way you dress; you’re also addressed with what you drive.

One way or the other, the car you drive has something to point out about you. There are cars that will drive out and nobody will look at it and there are ones that will pass and it will get everyone around gazing in awww.

There are a lot of factors that determines the car someone drives. These factors include: how much you can spend, your family situation, what your job entails, how flashy you like to be, ego, how much you know about cars etc.

This car also has its name to be “I-don-get-job”. When you drive this car, people see you to be someone that just need a car to drive but don’t have a heavy pocket. This might be wrong though.

This car is very common in the south-eastern part of Nigeria. A lot of people drive it because of its good fuel economy and easy maintenance.
Any roadside mechanic can manage to handle whatever problem it has and the spare parts is readily available almost everywhere.


2. Toyota Sienna:

This car passes the message that you’re a family man or woman. It says you probably need enough passenger and cargo space to convey your family. This can as well be linked to transport companies because that’s their closest alternative if it’s not the regular bus you know.

The owner is a politician, a musician, an artiste or a pastor.

one thing peculiar to the people driving these cars is that their car keys can’t be in their pocket, bag or purse. They like hooking it where eyes can see them.

In essence, they have this ego they want to uphold.

Choosing a personal moniker could be a challenging task not to talk of naming a car that would be bought by millions of people with diverse cultures.

After much deliberation, the car was named Porsche 901. However, Peugeot had already trademarked all three-digit numbers with Zero in the middle. Hence, Peugeot served Porsche a notice not to use the 901 moniker.

Porsche had to look for the least expensive solution as they had already printed 901 badges to stick on the body and the dashboard of the car. So they decided to swap the 0 in the middle with a 1.. and the 911 model has been waxing stronger since 1963.

Some days ago I boarded a danfo bus, from Kola bus stop in Alagbado going to Dopemu(under bridge),just after Iyana Ipaja.I saw something that prompted me to write this, a woman boarded the same bus as I did, and she had not less than 4 kids with her , all below 11 years �.

I would be going through some safety tips for mothers ,fathers or guardians who boards a danfo bus with children.

1.Be Observant
Before boarding a bus , trust your motherly instincts (trust me, you have one ), if your instincts doesn’t go with the bus , don’t go in .

Be observant , if you smell something fishy , don’t go in .

2.For Pregnant Women
Well, even though the child isn’t out yet , you still have a child with you and you are boarding the bus with him or her .The front seat beside the driver is a no go area for you, especially when you are heavily pregnant .

I say this because in the event of an accident, it would be more lethal for you and the baby , most of the seat belts in these buses are either absent or faulty .

The front row seat would be a better option for you , but please don’t seat close to the door. If you must, make sure the conductor closes the door.

3.Bend Properly When Backing Your Baby
I am sure you already know this,but sometimes some mothers unintentionally don’t bend properly .Please be more alert and bend properly especially in the smaller danfo buses .

Also wear a cap for the baby so it would cushion the effect of any unintended impact on the baby’s head .

4.Don’t Rush
Its unsafe for adults to rush into moving or stationary buses , talk less of children .So be patient .

5.Your Children Should Go In Before You
Always make sure your children go in before you do, while you have one leg in the bus and the other on the ground.Make sure they are all in before you settle in .

6.When You Sit Near The Window
Kids, especially toddlers are very inquisitive.Make sure you keep them in check so they dont put their hands or their heads out of the window.I don’t need to tell you what might happen .

7.Scrutinize Lapping Offers From Strangers
Especially when you have kids almost as many as a football team, you would be tempted to give in to lapping offers from strangers.Just observe and make sure you are comfortable with them .Never allow a male lap your daughter .

8.Make Sure They Alight Before You Do
Before they alight ,make sure you look out for okadas so they dont get brushed , and hold them tight as they alight or ask the conductor to assist.

People learn how to drive using different approach. Some were self-taught, some were taught by families and friends while others go to driving schools.

This post will be useful to you if you are in the category that would settle for a driving school which is the only legitimate way recognised by the government.

Standard driving schools usually offer 3 different packages: Beginner, Advanced and Refresher.

Beginner is meant for those who do not have any idea of driving and need to start from the scratch. Fee is N20,000 with learners permit or N17,000 without learners permit. You'll get 15 classes, Monday to Friday for 3 weeks.

Advanced is for those who only know the basics of driving but still require a tutor in order to improve their proficiency. The fee is N16,000 with learners permit or N13,000 without learners permit.

Refresher is for those that fall in the category of "I sabi drive before before". The fee is N6,500 and you'll get your learners permit at an additional cost of N3,000

Driving schools also assist their clients to process Drivers License for about N26,000 to N29,000.

Note: These fees are estimates and can vary depending on your location, the driving school and other factors.

After several years, the Mercedes Benz G Class still remains true to its heritage. And this might not be changing soon as the all new 2019 Mercedes Benz G Class has just been revealed.

Mercedes-Benz has planned the unveiling of the G-Class around January 15. Nevertheless, we can already view it today. Thanks to autoweek.nl who leaked the photos.

This may not be a big surprise, because earlier spyshots already indicated that Mercedes-Benz would keep the design of  its most distinctive model.

However, the most striking change is the interior. Mercedes-Benz provides the cockpit with a wide digital display, which gets a place right next to the instruments. The differential buttons are right below the digital display between the center AC vents while the passenger still gets the handgrip that dates all the way back.

Mercedes-Benz reports that the rear seats have been moved further to the rear, something that gives fifteen centimeters of extra legroom compared to the current G-class. The SUV is lighter than its predecessor despite a more rigid axle.

It gets a nine-speed automatic transmission, that sends 40 percent of the torque to the front wheels. The remaining 60 percent goes to the rear axle. It also comes with cameras all around, cameras that come in handy not only when parking, but also during off-loading.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed the safest 2018 vehicles. Good headlights and passenger protection are now added criteria as some manufacturers don't pay sufficient attention to offering effective headlights and a safe environment for passengers. IIHS President Adrian Lund said, "Drivers expect that their passengers, who are often family, will be protected just as well as they are."
