“BMW Wireless Charging”, the technology that allows energy transfer to take place without the use of cables. Wireless charging for the high-voltage battery will be made available as an option for the BMW 530e iPerformance from 2018.

The system consists of a base pad with integrated primary coil – which can be installed in a garage, for example, but also outdoors – and a secondary coil integrated in the underside of the vehicle. An alternating magnetic field is generated between the two coils, through which electricity is transmitted without cables or contacts at a charge rate of up to 3.2 kW.

The car will be fully charged in 3 hours 30 minutes.

More like crude oil is fast becoming the next charcoal.

1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks have just been recalled. The recall is due to door latches that may freeze or bend making the doors not to open or close properly. This may even cause the doors to open unexpectedly when the vehicle is in motion.

The affected vehicles are 2015 to 2017 models.  

Despite the simplicity of the repair, it will take a whole lot of time for Ford to fix all the affected vehicles.. they will need to add a water shield to the door latch and/or replace the actuation cables if required. 

Another set of recalls also affects a small number of F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-650 and F-750.

Verstappen was demoted to fourth and the Ferrari man took the podium alongside Hamilton and Vettel.

Chairman Governing Board of NDDC, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba has commended Nigeria’s indigenous car manufacturing company, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Group on their skills acquisition programme, just as he indicated the commission’s interest in partnering with them in the training of Niger Delta youths.

This was made known when the Executive Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Chief Innocent Chukwuma and his Management team paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abuja.

Ndoma-Egba commended Chief Chukwuma for his faith and belief in Nigeria by establishing a fully indigenous Multi Million Dollar Manufacturing business and assured that NDDC will support and patronize local production and enterprise as this creates jobs and gainful employment for the youths.

The NDDC Chairman further stated that the commission will patronize Innoson Motors by acquiring Refuse Disposal Trucks to assist the Nine Niger Delta Member States in refuse disposal and keeping their environments clean. He indicated NDDC’s interest in partnering with them in the training of Niger Delta youths. Responding , the Executive Chairman of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma reinstated his commitment to continue to improve the quality of their product's International standards.

Appealing to Government and its agencies to continue to patronize Made in Nigeria Products, Chief Chukwuma emphasized “if Government supports local production, Nigerian youths will be gainfully employed. He also added that at graduation, our youths should become Job Creators and not Job Seekers”. He therefore urged Nigerian youths to use their inherent abilities to create jobs for themselves instead of being job seekers.

The Porsche Mission E was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2 years ago and sales will commence in 2019. The selling price will be about $85,000 which will cost minimum of N45million in Nigeria after shipping and clearing. 

It is expected to have more than 600hp with 0-60 time in less than 3.5 seconds and top speed in excess of 250 km/h. 

When it arrives, it will be the first all-electric vehicle from Porsche and it will come with a fast-charging feature that will make it charge from 0-80% in 15 minutes. 

“With 350kW fast-charging, this will be a reality. It will be enough for a 400km (250-mile) range on an 80% charge,” company chairman Oliver Blume  said.

Ian Robertson who is BMW's board member responsible for sales has confirmed the company is looking into ditching car keys. 

This idea is premised on the fact that everyone now has a smartphone and BMW's app now allows us perform most of the vehicle functions via our phones. 

“Honestly, how many people really need it?” Robertson said to Reuters during the Frankfurt Motor Show. “They never take it out of their pocket, so why do I need to carry it around?,” 

Robertson said. “We are looking at whether it is feasible, and whether we can do it. Whether we do it right now or at some point in the future, remains to be seen,” 

Tesla also has this idea showing that BMW is not alone.

In Nigeria, we pay government for neglected roads and potholes as LASTMA, Police and other traffic agencies could arrest you when your car breaks down... the sad part is, you'll have to pay to bail yourself and your car. You may also need to settle Agbero. 

However, it's a different case in the UK where a single person sued the Somerset County Council for £1.8m and he got compensated because the government neglected a road which led to potholes. 

In the UK, it is a common trend for the citizens to sue the government if the roads are bad.. and the amount of compensation has been on a constant rise. Somerset County paid £170,000 to 28 claimants in 2014 to 2015, almost £900,000 to 33 claimants in the following year and £2.1m was paid in 31 compensation claims in 2016 to 2017 with £1.8m of it going to just one person.

Somerset County Gazette revealed the most common claim for compensation was for potholes, followed by drains and gullies and then "erosion of road".

The lowest compensation was £11.99 for "damage to clothing caused by overgrown fruit plant that were not maintained".

OLX reveals exciting stats on the impact of Online Classifieds on the Nigerian Economy as they clock 5

- The total value of second items posted was N12.1 trillion last year

Lagos, Nigeria: OLX, the leading online classifieds site in Nigeria, has released a second hand items report for Nigeria for the first time in commemoration of their 5th Anniversary to showcase trends within the local secondhand market from last year.

According to the report, the value of the unused or secondhand items posted on the site was N12.1 trillion last year, which interestingly, is almost twice the market capital for Snapchat*. The report also showcases the power of the secondhand market offering in Nigeria, by revealing that over one million items were posted for sale last year, which equates to one item being up for grabs every 30 seconds on OLX.

Commenting on the report, Lola Masha, Country Manager, OLX stated that, “OLX currently receives over 2.8 million visits a month and we are anticipating a growth in this figure over the upcoming months. This report reflects Nigerians awareness of the second-hand value of their possessions.

The report takes a closer look at each category revealing some exciting figures about Nigeria’s secondhand market. For example: the monetary value of mobile phones posted on OLX in 2016 is over N6.5 trillion - which is equivalent to 4 and half of the world’s largest gold bars, whilst the value of the home, furniture & garden category on OLX is N44.3 billion which is equivalent to almost half the cost of the Akwa Ibom stadium.

The most expensive mobile phone posted on the site was a Nokia Vertu for N950,000, whilst the most expensive vehicle was a pre-owned 2015 Private Jet Bombardier valued at N5.5 billion that’s the average salary of the top 5 Nigerian footballers.

Do you know the benefits of a third party motor insurance? Before we delve into the benefits, let’s understand what third party motor insurance means.

Third party car insurance means that the person that is not a party to the agreement between the insured (car owner) and the insurer (insurance company) is covered when there is a claim. Motor third-party insurance is a compulsory policy for all car owners in Nigeria and it is backed by law. Third party motor insurance only covers the following:

1. Third party property damage,
2. Third party bodily injury or death.

For example, if you insure your car on third party only insurance (the premium is N5,000.00), and you get involved in a road accident where you are at fault, the insurance company will be liable for the repair of the other person's car while you repair your own car. Also, if you damage somebody's property like a building's fence in an accident, the fence will be repaired by the insurance company. However, you should take note that there is a certain limit to what the insurance company will pay for motor third party property damage. The maximum is N1,000,000.00, but some can pay as high as N2,000,000.00.

The main importance of third party motor insurance is for the protection of other road users while you use your car. If compensation for bodily injury or death, or the repair of a third party car is more than the insurance contract limit, then you would be required to pay the excess. For example if you are involved in an accident and the claim is N1,400,000.00 after adjustment. If your policy limit is N1,000,000.00, what it means is that the third party will be paid N1,000,000.00 by the insurance company while you will pay the remaining N400,000.00 to the third party to settle the claim. The limit can be drawn many times during the policy year, but it cannot exceed the limit.

In Nigeria, many car owners and drivers believe motor third party insurance is among the vehicle license documents that make it legal for them to use the road. In fact, only 1 in 100 car owners understand that third party car insurance is not just a document for road usage, but a savior in times of unexpected occurrences. When you run into Police or other agency road blocks, and your car particulars are checked, if you do not possess third-party insurance, you would be arrested. What & How Can You Invoke The Third-Party Insurance Policy?

Anytime you get involved in any of the scenarios mentioned in the previous paragraphs (and covered in the insurance contract); all you need to do is file a claim. You can file a claim directly via the Insurance Company or the agent that underwrote the insurance policy for you. Make sure you have clear photo evidences, and receipts (in case you paid for part or the full claims already).
