PropertiesLRU Spotted Fighting Fire Outbreak At Challenge Bus Stop In Lagos (Photos) by AutoJoshNG(op): 11:19am On Mar 08, 2018
LRU Fire & Rescue team was on a rescue mission at Challenge Bus Stop in Lagos and the photos from the event looks like something out of a movie or a video game (Call Of Duty). Weldone @ LRU as this shows that "anything you do is worth doing well"

So if your work is to quench fire, quench it with class. Nigeria would be a better place if all government agencies would act this way.

Travel10 Popular Names Used For Bus Stops In Lagos by AutoJoshNG(op): 3:27pm On Mar 07, 2018
Most bus stops derive their names from something within a close proximity to them. It could be the name of an adjoining street or the closest landmark. In some cases, that landmark might have even relocated from that area. Residents also use their discretion to name some bus stops.

These are some popular names of bus stops in Lagos.

1. Cele Bus Stop: Just look around for a white building with a white fence and people wearing white robes.

2. Church Bus Stop: Can’t even imagine how many Church bus stops we have out there.

3. Moshalashi: Just know there is a Mosque around the corner.

4. Under-Bridge: Once there is a flyover, the name of the bus stop automatically becomes under-bridge.

5. Pako: Either there is a plank market, wooden foot-bridge or any significant wooden structure.

6. Cemetery: Before you buy or rent a house close to cemetery bus stop, make enquiries to know the neighbours you are moving in with. You don't want to be having weird dreams at night.

7. Oja (Market): With markets in every nook and cranny of Lagos, you’ll surely hear a lot of “Oja Wa O”.

8. Vulcanizer: I even saw a beautiful bus stop stand in Egbeda with vulcanizer boldly written on it.

9. Bakery: The love for Agege bread in Lagos won't make this  name miss the list.

10. Last bus stop: When you get here, you will hear Gbogbo Ero (meaning all passengers).

Which of the above names do you think is the most popular? Don't forget to add to the list.

World premiere for the Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Concept

Porsche has just revealed an electrically powered cross-utility vehicle (CUV). The strengths of the four-door Cross Turismo include the emotional design with striking off-road elements and the new display and operating concept with touch screen and view control.

Two permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PSM) with a system output of more than 600 hp accelerate the Mission E Cross Turismo to 100 km / h in less than 3.5 seconds under twelve seconds to 200 km / h.

"The Mission E Cross Turismo demonstrates how we envision the all-electric future. It combines sportiness and practicality in a unique way. Not only will our vehicle drive fast, it will also be able to load quickly and reproducibly retrieve its performance, "says Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. The already mobile Mission E Cross Turismo builds on the study Mission E, which Porsche showed at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA). The series car based on it celebrates its premiere next year.

Career8 Facts About Agbero (Garage Boys) In Lagos by AutoJoshNG(op): 10:02am On Mar 06, 2018
https://i68.tinypic.com/2jae1he.jpg

If you don’t know what an Agbero is, just take a bus to Oshodi or Mushin bus stop. Then look out for one black guy with red eyes with stitches on his face and a neatly wrapped smoking white paper in between his two fingers.. Ask him who an Agbero is, but don’t tell him I sent you.

In as much as you may not like to see them, you surely  have to respect yourself around them. They torment the bus drivers, Okada riders and traders to the extent that they even torment themselves.

Out of curiosity, I made some enquiries about area boys and some of the findings are highlighted below.

1. Some earn more than bank workers:

Some executive Agberos earn as much as  some bank executives. Also, some of the lower level agberos earn more than some contract staff of banks. However, they don’t have much to show for it as they typically spend most of  their earnings  on “Orisirisi” meat, women and other mundane interest. At Bukas and restaurants, a typical order by them  is “Madam, give me N50 Amala and N2,500 meat”.

2. The police is their friend:

If you think the police is your friend, then try report an Agbero to them. The matter may just turn on your head. You know why? Some of the "men in black" are on the payroll of Agberos. They even have specific days and time they go to their parks to collect their usual “Roger”.

3. They run shifts and have off-days:

Surprisingly,  these guys maintain a time-table like factory workers, and they stick to it. They don’t go to work on their off-days.

4. They live far from their place of work:

You would think every Agbero’s house is just a stone throw from the park or bus stops that they operate from. But on the contrary, many of them commute a long way to work. I encountered one who leaves around Ikotun but works in Surulere. The funny thing is, they get to work early. Sometimes as early as 5 AM.

5. They always have injury marks and stitches:

That’s their trademark and they boast about it. It reminds them of their escapades of how many bottles they have bursted.

6. Most of them were Mechanics:

Most of them were mechanics before they changed occupation. I remember a mechanic in my area while growing up. He was lazy and could not cope with the job. He quickly converted to an okada rider and later metamorphosed into a full blown area boy.

7. They have informants:

They are always the first to know anything happening in the area. Your neighbor might even be their snitch. You can’t even sneak a truck of sand into your house without them showing up.

8. Most of them die trying to get rich:

They keep trying but it is obviously more blessed to give than to receive. They are limited to just collect without adding value. To make matters worse, bulk of that money is cursed money and it vaporises into thin air like a candle in the wind. However, a few eventually get rich and even get traditional titles or political appointments.

Let’s hear from you in the comment section and don’t forget to mention what you like or dislike about area boys.

Science/TechnologyDubai Is Building Sci-fi Style Transport Pods by AutoJoshNG(op): 4:44pm On Mar 05, 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJlQaCIUHTI

Visiting Dubai looks like stepping into the future. It’s home to man-made islands, the world’s first 3D printed office, and firefighters with jetpacks. Now the city wants residents to move around in sci-fi style too .Recently, they unveiled and tested two autonomous transport pods, each designed to transport up to six people. Its funny how Nigeria and Dubai share a common revenue generation source and they are miles away, thats a topic for another day.

At the end of February, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) featured these two pods attached to each other other and running around one of the city’s main streets. Built in Italy by the U.S.-based company Next Future Transportation, the cube-shaped autonomous pods run on electricity, with a top speed of 80 k/h (about 50 mph).

These pods are part of the city’s 2030 Dubai Future Accelerators program, with a goal of making 25 percent of daily transportation fully automated. In order to do this, the RTA will spend $410,000 (approx 148 Million Naira) for further research and development of the pods.

“The goal is to develop these two research vehicles,” Khaled al-Awadhi, Automated Collection Systems director at the RTA, told Reuters. “These tests are aimed at developing the performance of these vehicles.”

According to the RTA,the plan will be to initially deploy the pods on pre-programmed routes. Eventually, they would become accessible using a mobile app for home pickups, like a ride-hailing service(Uber, Taxify etc.).

Next Future’s autonomous transport pods are just one of the latest transport technologies Dubai has been interested in. City officials have been working on a number of Hyperloop projects, including building a network that connects major cities.

Meanwhile, Dubai’s other autonomous transportation efforts include testing a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) ride-hailing service, as well as a driverless taxi service on land powered by Tesla Model S and X vehicles. Dubai also funded a startup working to perfect a technology that would allow driverless cars to “communicate” with each other, and with smart road infrastructure.

Dubai RTA authorities have not given an exact date as to when Next’s autonomous cube pods will hit the roads. For now, officials have said they aim to iron out their plans for the pods by the end of 2018 or by early 2019.

Here is a video showing how it works

Car TalkCars45, Do They Actually Buy Your Car In 45 Minutes? – By Autojosh by AutoJoshNG(op): 6:37am On Mar 02, 2018
https://i67.tinypic.com/xqlzsp.jpg

I have been getting a couple of phone calls from people who ask about the authenticity of Cars45. They ask questions like: Will they pay me? Will my car be safe? Will they buy at a good price? Are they genuine? A man from Ibadan even asked if they would not elope with his car.

So I decided to write this review about Cars45 for those who would like to know a little about the Company.

Cars45 was founded in 2016 by Etop Ikpe (Former commercial director of Konga and former CEO of DealDey) with Iyamu Mohammed, Sujay Tyle and Peter Lindholm as co-founders. The company was established to help Nigerian car users reduce difficulties of selling their used cars and they have been doing a good job at that. They even got a N1.8 billion ($5million) funding last year.. so they probably won’t run away with your N2million car.

Their head office is located at Agidingbi, Lagos with 23 branches in Lagos, 5 in Abuja and 1 office in Port Harcourt. They are obviously the foremost car selling and auctioning platform for Nigerian used cars.

At the moment, Cars45 is the most reliable and quickest way to sell your Nigerian used car. Some of the advantages they offer are:

1) You don’t have to park your car on the road side with a “For Sale” Jerrycan on it for 3 months, all in the name of “I want to sell my car”

2) Car sellers are usually scared that prospective buyers can driver away in their car or even plant a tracking device and come steal the car in the middle of the night.

3) You get your entire sales proceed as soon as all the vehicle documents are verified. There is no “please let me pay 70% now and pay the balance next month”.

4) No buyer will come wage war against you that they shouldn’t have bought your car in the first place because they are now having problems with it. Cars45 would have done a thorough check before buying your car.

5) The company links you and your car with several buyers (mostly car dealers) through their car auction platform.. just like Copart and IAAI car auctions in USA.

https://i66.tinypic.com/5evos1.jpg

Despite the company’s robust profile as well as the benefits they offer, the most valid question that runs through the mind of an average car seller is, will they buy my car at a good price? Well, the answer to the question is determined by many variables, which may be revealed during the inspection process. These include:

1) The car has been involved in a major accident in the past. Sadly, many cars on Nigerian roads fall in this category as they were imported as salvaged cars from USA auctions.

2) Incomplete documentation especially if the car does not have genuine import duty papers.

3) Poor maintenance.

4) Some high-end cars with low demand might be grossly undervalued. Note that the price they will pay for your car is largely determined by forces of demand and supply.

5) Don’t even think of selling your unregistered tokunbo car through them. It’s not Berger car market so you’ll hardly get a good price.

After selling some cars through Cars45 and sampling the opinion of some of their clients, it was easy to conclude that their prices are moderate and fair. Note, their prices are usually not meant for people who want to cash in big time when selling their cars. For example, I sold a 3-year-old 2012 Toyota Camry through Car45 in December 2017. I was compelled to patronize the company because I wasn’t getting any good offer after putting the car on the market for a month. I had posted the car advert on 4 different car sale websites, I also pasted a “For Sale” sticker on it and even parked it at a friend’s car lot in Victoria Island but no serious leads came forth. I was willing to sell for N3.2m but no buyer. I got on Cars45’s website, checked the car's proposed valuation, booked an appointment and dashed to their office to inspect the vehicle. Sadly, the inspection and processing took longer than the advertised 45 minutes, but I was pacified with a N3million offer after my 2 hours ordeal. A reasonable price to pay to end my month long search for a buyer.

In conclusion, Car45 will buy your car at a moderate and fair price, which will not make you an instant millionaire as most of us would have wanted. They also buy or help you sell your car within the fastest time in Nigeria but is it actually in 45 minutes as they’ve always advertised? I doubt because the 1 or 2 vehicle inspectors at their branches can easily get overwhelmed causing delay and the branch office also have slow internet to contend with as bulk of their processes are transmitted online to and from their head office.

Tell us your experience with Cars45 in the comment section.

Car TalkAll New 2018 Audi A6 Unveiled And It's Superb (photos) by AutoJoshNG(op): 9:51am On Feb 28, 2018
The all new Audi A6 is the latest addition to Audi’s renewed line-up. The A6 takes design cues from the larger A8. There is also a mild-hybrid technology touch across the entire range.

The A6 follows the larger A8 and A7 in being the third Audi signed off in its entirety by design boss Marc Lichte, who joined the company in 2014.

According to their bosses, the A6 looks more athletic which has overhangs lesser than that of the larger A8.

To lessen weight, many of the exterior panels are made from aluminum. All A6s receive LED lights front and rear, with matrix beam and laser headlights available further up the range.

The new A6 is fractionally larger than the old model, with a 7mm length increase, yet 12mm added to the wheelbase. Audi claims the interior is 21mm longer, mainly benefiting legroom in the rear seats, while there’s more head, elbow and shoulder room than before, too.

This new Audi A6 is the first executive car to offer mild-hybrid technology across its entire engine range.

Four cylinder engines will use a simple 12v system with a belt starter-generator, allowing the start/stop function to kick in while the car is still moving up to 14mph. It’s also able to ‘coast’ between 35 and 100mph, switching off the engine when the driver lifts off the accelerator and instantly restarting it when needed.

The initial engine range at launch will consist of a 201bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel, two 3.0-litre V6 diesels producing 228bhp and 286bhp respectively, and a 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol, all mated solely to automatic gearboxes. Bosses tell us a 2.0-litre petrol engine will be offered at a later date.
