Taking a road trip in a commercial bus in Nigeria is usually skewed towards tedious or hilarious. It's surely an avenue to meet different types of people and today, we'll be taking a look at 9 types of people you will probably meet in a bus while traveling.

Let's go and don't forget to tell us the category you belong..


1. The Preacher

"Let someone shout Hallelujah" .. that's usually their first statement. The trip is usually long enough for a short service. So before you get to your destination, you guys would have done praise & worship, sermon, announcements etc.. some even add the offering session for you to support their ministry.

2. The Marketer

This set of people convert a cramped bus cabin into a moving Tejuosho market. They sell anything they lay their hands on from edibles and drugs to wears and gadgets. Their sugar-coated mouth can make you embark on impulsive buying leaving you stranded after spending your transport fare.

3. Mr Nigeria

This politician knows the past, present and future of Nigeria.. It's always easy for them to get a chat partner discussing various topics ranging from the birth of Nigeria to the corruption in the land.

4. Co-Pilot

They have one common attribute... they like to sit in the front seat while doubling as the driver's personal assistant and google map. They know how to tell the driver to overtake and maneuver but the interesting thing is some of them cannot even drive.

5. The Gentle One

You would only hear them speak twice throughout the trip. Their first word is "change" and the second one is "owa oo". Owa oo is used to tell the driver you've gotten to your bus-stop in Lagos.. what is it called in your state?

6. The Super Sleeper

These ones can sleep for Africa. Before the driver puts the bus in gear 1, they are already in gear 5. Some of them would have gotten to Ibadan before realizing they were meant to alight at Sagamu. Then you'll see them begging for transport fare to make it back to their actual destination.

7. The Warrior

Don't try the Floyd Mayweather in the bus. He/She is always ready to fight anybody on the slightest opportunity.

8. The Pilferer

Don't gawk yourself.. because if you do, you might end up looking for your money, phone and/or any other valuables you've got. Imagine a pilferer sitting next to a super sleeper. Lol.

9. The Smooth Smoocher

While the preacher is preaching and the pilferer is pilfering, the smoocher will be busy smooching silently. They always like the potholes and bumpy rides which helps them to tap some more current. This is one easy way to earn yourself a dirty slap in the bus. I remember an elderly man smooching a lady inside Edo Line on a Port Harcourt to Lagos trip way back.. She only gave the gist after the man alighted. Despite pricking the man's hand with her toothpick endlessly, he never gave up throughout the journey.

From Tochigi, Japan comes a N1.5billion Owl that goes from 0-62mph in just 2 seconds. It is called the Aspark Owl.

Just revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, it comes with 429 hp and 563 lb ft of torque weighing 1,874 pounds.

It comes with generous cabin space is attributed to SYMBIOZ’s rear-wheel drive configuration, with two electric motors located on the rear axle, and the batteries housed beneath the floor. The combination of the retracting dashboard, and pivoting front seats make it ideally suited to ‘Mind-off’ autonomous driving. Additional personalisation technology allows automatic detection of passengers, customized seat settings, music streaming, and entertainment options.

If there is any news we would hear non-stop from 2017 and beyond ,its going to be about driverless and electric cars .

Japan is at the forefront this time around ,and they are testing driverless buses to help old people get around .

They are bringing autonomous vehicle technology to rural areas ,where majority of the population is over 65 years.

Nishikata, Japan, 115 km (71 miles) from the capital of Tokyo, is one such area. Roughly one-third of its small population of 6,300 people are elderly, and with limited buses and bus drivers, it can be difficult for these residents to move around.

This awesome futuristic machine was designed by game developers DeNA Co,it has six seats .During the initial testing this September ,it safely transported occupants to areas with healthcare services.

According to Reuters , the bus moves at 10kph,though some occupants requested it goes faster and reach up to 40kph.

It would interest you to know that over 26 % of Japan’s population is over 65 years(the highest in the world) ,with Italy coming in second at 22.4%, which is a very high percentage.This technology specifically built for this population would go a long way in assisting them,especially those that can no longer drive.

Here is what Hiroshi Nakajima, DeNA Co’s automotive director had to say :

“Smaller towns in Japan are greying even faster than cities, and there are just not enough workers to operate buses and taxis”.

“But there are a lot of service areas around the country, and they could serve as a hub for mobility services.”

This is the new 2018 Toyota Prado you have been waiting for. Some say it only got a facelift and no a rear lift. The back still looks like the 2008 Lexus GX470 and the 2009 Prado but the cabin has got some upgrades.

It was just revealed for the Frankfurt Motor Show and it should be on our roads in November.

It features a new dashboard design incorporates the large, 8 inch Toyota Touch 2 with Go multimedia system, Optitron driver’s meters, and a steering wheel switchgear-controlled 4.2’’ Multi-information Display. It also comes with 2.7 VVT-i engine with 161 HP or 4.0 VVT-i petrol engine with 245 HP.

The face gets newly designed bonnet, radiator grille, headlamps, front bumper and fenders but is it any finer than the outgoing model? Tell us in the comment section.

You can opt for the six-spoke 17” alloys, gloss painted 18’’ alloys, or a new, 12-spoke, machined finish 19’’ alloy wheel design.

The high grade models with automatic transmission come equipped with ‘Toyota Safety Sense’, a set of active safety technologies designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions across a wide range of traffic situations.

In line with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode‘s vision for Lagos State, the Lagos State Safety Commission has been working tirelessly to achieve a better, safer and cleaner Lagos. Hence, the commission organised a forum for players in the automobile industry in order to partner and campaign for a safer Lagos. An Automobile Safety Grant Program was also launched during the event.

The commission is headed by Mr. Hakeem Dickson as the Director-General (DG).. and it has the following responsibilities: Ensuring safety of lives and properties, setting of safety standards, issuance of safety compliance certificates, release of safety alerts, investigation of safety issues and registration of safety practitioners, amongst many others.

Summary of Issues Discussed

1) The event commenced at 11am on 29th of August, 2017 at LASEPA building, Alausa, Lagos with an opening remark from the DG, Mr Hakeem Dickson.

2) The Managing Director of Universal Insurance Plc, Mr Ben Ujoatuonu stated that the importance of insurance can never be overemphasised. He also assured the commission that his company will always partner with them and Nigerians to provide the best rate for maximum insurance coverage.

3) Mr Patrick Anizoba of Clara Claire Energy Services Ltd (UK) spoke about health and safety in mechanic workshops. He campaigned for zero alcohol intake, maximum focus, regular washing of hands etc while in the workshop.

4) Mrs Tola Sanusi stated that the commission will soon commence trainings for and certification of organisations in Lagos State to ensure the State’s duty of care is upheld.. This will ensure health, safety, insurance and welfare of all employees.

5) Mr Soji Olaopa talked about Hazards being the potential cause of harm as well as Risks which is the possibility of the event occurring. He also talked about how to mitigate risks which goes from things as simple as using grass in place of C-Caution to something as bad as driving under the influence of alcohol.

6) Mr Abiodun Ogidan presented the launch of the Automobile Safety Grant (ASG) which is aimed at raising standards in the automobile industry. This includes research as well as training and development programs. He said, support and donations will also be appreciated from auto manufacturers, major workshops and major auto dealers to expand this project.. and donor companies will be entitled to several benefits.

7) The final speaker discussed something very important which most of us still overlook. Mrs Julie Chinwe Nwosu from Smart Living Choice Company talked about health, CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), first aid and stress management. She demonstrated and implored everyone to know about CPR and first aid as knowing what to do in an emergency can mean the difference between life and death.

Do you remember the car that was used in “Back To The Future”? They are now shifting towards the production of Flying Cars.

DeLorean, an aerospace company founded by John DeLorean, and now owned by his nephew Paul DeLorean, John first had the idea of building Flying cars in 2012, but it seemed to0 crazy, owing to the uder-developed technology, Paul re-kindled in the fire this year and it seems like he just might succeed.

DeLorean recently finished the design and produced two scale models of their Flying Car, called the DR-7 aircraft, it consists of two prominent wings behind the pilot and passenger space, and a pair of smaller wings at the front. Flight, take-off and landing is carried out by two large fans.

The Flying Car might be electric and durable, as DeLorean propose about 120 miles on a single charge. Testing starts later in 2018.

The Rolls Royce Dawn redesigned by the luxury German automaker Mansory is a sleeky sporty luxury ride.

In order to fulfill the high demands with respect to looks and aerodynamics, the MANSORY designers have given the front of the four-seater a completely new design. Larger air intakes on the newly designed front spoiler in conjunction with perfectly integrated LED daytime running lights which gives the distinguished Briton a much more dynamic appearance.

The use of visible carbon fibre enhances the sporty modern look. The front lip, radiator housing and the lightweight construction of the bonnet show the typical carbon structure. But the flanks and the rear were also redesigned: The MANSORY side skirts were sculptured to quieten the airflow at the sides and to give the cabriolet a lower and sleeker look, no matter whether the soft top is up or down. To reduce the lift on the rear axle the MANSORY designers fitted an elegant spoiler lip to the Dawn’s original boot lid and combined this with the rear spoiler which was also redesigned.

Fitting to the exclusive appearance of the Dawn MANSORY uses rims with dimensions of 22 inches. The especially light rim also has, thanks to the special aluminium alloys, the approval for high wheel loads. MANSORY recommends ultra-high-performance tyres from Vredestein in the dimensions 265/35/22 for the front axle and 295/30/22 for the rear axle.

As sporty as the MANSORY conversion may look, there is also plenty to offer under the bonnet. The technology specialist helps the Rolls-Royce Dawn to an engine performance of 740 hp / 544 kW at 5,500 rpm (Standard: 570 hp / 420 kW). At the same time the maximum torque was increased by 220 Nm to an awe-inspiring 1,000 Nm in the range of 1,500 rpm to 5,500 rpm. With this the Dawn can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h within a mere 4.5 seconds. The maximum speed has been increased from 250 to 285 km/h.

Only the finest materials are used for the newly designed interior. Brushed aluminium, carbon fibre, burl wood or highly polished piano lacquer surfaces gleam nobly in the cockpit according to the customer’s desires and are a perfect complement to the leather on the dashboard and the seats. Precisely hand-crafted embroidering in the foot mats and the head rests provide an additional visual focus. Thus, a style is achieved that provides the perfect symbiosis between luxurious flair and lifestyle.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has just confirmed that you can now renew your driver's licence without going through the tedious capturing and biometrics.

All you need to do is.. go to http://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org, click on DL application, click on renewal of drivers licence and insert your licence number and date of birth.

At the end of the form, select "NO" when asked if you want to recapture biometric information. With this, your information will be pulled out from the database and you can select the centre where you wish to pick up your permanent licence.
