Good morning. This is well understood. But then the floating switch only works for the upper 4 tanks. The tanks at the second level and third level will not be controlled by any floating switch and they do not serve any of the 4 units... What is then the need of those tanks? I mean the tanks on the 2nd and 3rd level, what is their function?

Engineers in the house, please I need clarification on the picture below, I have about four columns with this kind of adjustments and my engineer told me it's to correct an error and there is nothing to worry about.

How do you run a floating switch where the tanks are on different levels and with the tanks on each level serving a different floor?

What is the size of the building? How many apartments do you have and how many rooms?

With this arrangement, you can't possibly use a floating switch. So you need someone who will be operating the pumps and water will be flooding the area once the tanks are filled up

We used 1.75inches discharge pipes to run the water to the inlet of each flat. The distribution within a flat is with 3/4 and 1 inch

Running 2x2 woods on roof beam is the trend now by most carpenters. It might save you a token but it's not safe for POP works. Follow your POP man's advice. Do a proper noggin for your POP ceiling irrespective if you are using PRECAST or PLASTERBOARD. Safety before budget please.

To professionally explain this is like going to a Civil or structural engineering class.

It is easier to Google "differential settlement" than for me to explain since you will find tons of illustrations graphical items to expose the concept better. The summary i will give will just be like giving you facts without proof. What you seem to be asking is proof of facts.

Simply, the dynamics with which cracks occur causes a point of highest tension and points of low tension. Cracks happen at the point of highest tension and decipates as it approaches where tension is low. With differential settlement, tension is highest at the top and so cracks start there.

One reason cracks avoid most windows is because of the lintel which in most cases is reinforced. Reinforcement bars are very good tensile resisting structural members so the crack would logically transfer or change course to less tension resisting parts of the structure. This is the reason most people would suggest a chain lintel which would be effective in stopping cracks but will not eliminate settlements. However, the problem is still existing despite the chain lintel and would manifest only under greater settlement stresses.

For me it all depends on the quality of materials you want to use based on the cost implications of the two options(tiling and painting )
There are some Nigerian external wall tiles that are quite affordable but never gives that look of quality after use. And also there are some painting materials that are quite expensive too.
But to get the best of looks you have to apply both the use of good outside wall tiles like the samples below along side with paint in the right places .
Example
Tiles can go to pillars and at the foot of the building while paints can go the other parts of the buildings

I base abroad and the building was entrusted in the hands of a family member.What are the risks of building with 5 inches blocks? It's as if my world is crumbling �� I read somewhere that such structures are not solid. Please help me, advice me on what to do. I have spent all my savings erecting the structure. Thanks

No cause for alarm! Your site seems to be on a very firm ground. Supporting columns at edge, lintel chained round, concrete work looks good, parapet built well. For those who knows Ikorodu very well, there is an Estate called His Glory Estate along Laspotech road, we built 16 No's of twin 3 bedroom bungalow, a mighty bungalow indeed completely sold out now, it has been in use for about 12 years now and still waxing strong.

For those who will want to build with 6 inches block " this is only advisable for a bungalow on a very firm ground with extra care".

Your relative who handle this has done good job, kudos. My judgment base on the pix you posted.

Since we live in Africa, where some foods must be consumed by bare hands, hand washing is essential. Think of eating eba with soup, and the fear of those elastic kpomo being stretched between the hand and teeth and then snap to throw red stew on your white top. (Or pepper in the eyes) Rushing to fetch water and soap might cause delays. It might be better to have an existing wash hand basin near the action point.
But like Thathistoryguy pointed out, there are modern ones available now.
