donclark: Security apart, Jonathan has been the best President so far.

The Lagos-Ibadan-Ore express road is a testiomony, improved economy that has made a significant increase in just 3yrs that took other 60yrs to improve. Return of agriculture, electricity has improved vastly. (If you say you haven't seen light in your area and use that as a judgement then it only serves my point that you're cowbell born)
to hear.

If were to rate GEJ compare to other past govt, I'll give him a 65%...The 35% is the problems with securities and corruption..

http://www..com.ng
If GEJ is the best president ever because of repairing the Lagos-Ibadan-Ore express road then the person who built it originally must be GOD.

FACT there is nothing GEJ has done that was not done by other Nigerian head of states/presidents.

GEJ just the like his predecessors is mediocre.
Car Talk › Re: Your Opinions: Can Innoson Compete With Giants Like Toyota & KIA In Nigeria? by AZeD1(m): 4:12pm On Sep 08, 2014
Can Innoson thing compete?

The answer to that question depends on Innoson's selling point. He is far behind the pack in terms of innovation and marketability so he's sellling point should be price(Being owned by a Nigerian is not a selling point).
He should take a cue from Techno phones. They came into the market and did not compete with the likes of Samsung and Blackberry but found a niche for themselves in the low cost smart phone market.
Obviously cars and phones are different but i doubt if any body would pick an Innoson vehicle over a Toyota or Kia if they were in the same price range.
Politics › Re: Operation "Counter Western Propaganda" by AZeD1(m): 12:45pm On Sep 08, 2014
As usual, rather than use his energy to fight the problem, the OP is busy chasing shadows. Just in case you have forgotten,
1) The Army released a statement saying they have rescued the Chibok girls
2) GEJ has given so many dates in which boko haram was supposed to have been defeated
3) GEJ/members of his government have said at numerous times that they know the sponsors of boko haram but have failed to prosecute them

Rather than worry about what "western media" reports about Nigeria, you should be worried about the credibility deficit of the government which is more dangerous.

aljharem: Who is deceiving who here.

GEJ is actually doing his best although he has some short comings which still annoys me but all in all no one is perfect only God. I hope APC Progressives understand that.

Attacking the president's every decision is not the solution unless you just want power rather than serve. I expect APC to provide solutions to the problems facing this country, afterall they are all in service not power hungry.

Who is deceiving who here.
I don't care which party you support because you are free to do so but the part i highlighted shows that you are a big part of Nigeria's problem and the earlier Nigeria does away with people like you the better.

The president (and other elected officials)are paid to make decisions on behalf of Nigerians, and every decision he takes should be scrutinized and attacked unless it can be proved beyond reasonable doubts that the said decision taken by the president is the best.

SincereNigerian you see what playing politics with education has caused?

People want free jobs and admission they are not qualified for.

Quality triumphs quantity any day and GEJ goofed big time by creating additional universities.

Most of the people commenting either did not read the article or have no idea of finance. A loan portfolio of $1 billion is really healthy for a state like Lagos.

For you to say Boko haram gave the negotiator their enemies name either means you have seen the transcript of the conversation between the negotiator or you are just speculating and my gut tells me you are speculating.
Issues with your speculation
1) You are thinking the negotiator asked boko haram who is their sponsor was directly
2) Calling for the arrest of Sheriff by boko haram doesn't make him "innocent".

Only in your mind is what you posted here called Facts

bendike: ordinarily, it should be a good idea. but the problem is that the americans cant be trusted to handle such sensitive issue of a multipupose card. The issue is not about them having our information which as someone said earlier, they already do.
My point is that mastercard is an american company and american government polices recently have been proven to effect business and so they are unreliable.
Nairalanders take the case of russia. because of disagreement over russian action in ukraine, russia was SANCTIONED by the american goverment. Russian citizens could not acess their funds in the bank for days through MASTERCARD. Even till now some citizens targeted by sanctions cant. Hence russia has started developing their own payment system. The chinese have theirs.
Tomorrow we disagree with the usa over homosexuals and they then sanction us?
Iran had issues with usa and they then sanctioned them and stopped selling parts for usa built aircrafts to them!

Its a good idea but we should not do it with an american company.
STOP BUYING AMERICAN simple
Its not about America alone, its the fact that our National ID shouldn't bear the logo of a company talk more of a foreign company.

kraba: My broda, yours is one of the few informed comments I have read on this thread, first off all 160 million nigerian phone lines were. Registered with biometrics by 3 major foreign firms and I never heard any dissenting voices then, secondly, most nigerians 16 years & above have willingly gone to submit their biometrics at one foreign embassy or the other with great pride and even paid for it.
So except for myopic political gains, I see no reason why any "progressive" mind will oppose this long over due instrument of true inclusive prosperity.
This was the same excuse used by northerners to keep us from liberalising sectors like electronic/print media, aviation, telcoms, power for so long and thesame people that are "outraged" here have been raging for the "outages" in those sectors.
What you can't do for now, outsource it until you can, it simple logic.
When you submitted your biometrics to the telecommunications company and embassies, did you also submit your financial details?

By the way, why don't we stamp Microsoft or Audi or Xaomi on the Nigerian passport?

stevecantrell: The truth is Mastercard could very well do this without putting their logo but that will defeat the whole purpose. They will eventually link it to your bank accounts.
You don't have to worry about paying your outstanding taxes, levies, tenement rate, land use charge to your govt anymore...mastercard will simply direct debit it from your bank acct to your govt's acct...isn't that nice ? wink

On a serious note, any serious govt with anti-trust laws shouldn't allow this. A whole 180 million Nigerian people shouldn't be forced to answer to one financial entity. I doubt mastercard have a market share of 180million customers in the US alone. A country of 300 million.

ryom: I marvel at these comments. Its either a display of utter naivety or stupendous ignorance. Where do people think the data base of their electronic records are held anyway? Do you have a mobile phone (especially a smartphone), an email address, an ATM card and the like? Do you hold an international passport? Travelled abroad, especially to any of the so called first world country? Drive a car manufactured 2010 and beyond? Then they already have the records. This card favours you by consolidating your information in one place at your point of access; but them? They already have the information if you have done any of the bit I mentioned earlier! Looks like a lot of folks are in deep slumber!! Its too late to want to be anonymous. Like a boss of mine once said, ''its not about being raped (figuratively), its about making the experience as pleasant as possible.''
You don't get the point. Mastercard is an American company, holding the data of Nigerians. The difference between is all you mentioned (Facebook, email, et al) is that those are optional but is the Nigerian ID optional?

PS: Linking bio-metric details to financial details is a terrible idea.

aljharem: OGA We know you know a lot about business that is why when you have your own company, you should rather opt for debts even if you have money to execute the project with your money and still have excess left.

Look Oga, debt is bad in any business, It is a liability on its own NOT AN ASSET. Lets establish THAT FACT.

Now it goes back to the question

Is Lagos state debt sustainable ?

Lagos owes $1,020,410 674 billion

Its Monthly generated revenue is 17 billion Naira in which it has a reoccurring expenditure of 2 billion naira paid to Tinubu's company

thus left with 15 billion Naira.

Civil servant, repair and maintenance etc has not been accounted for

so how does Lagos state intend to pay back without triple taxing us or even robbing us like they were doing in Ekiti.
There's no point arguing with someone who has an agenda but i'd like you to show me billionaires and big companies that don't have debt.
Politics › Re: Fashola On Trial by AZeD1(m): 7:40pm On Aug 25, 2014
aljharem: Debt is bad on its own

High debt to IGR too is bad

Now the worst is high debt with no equal or corresponding infrastructure or development to commiserate the debt is the highest level of corruption.

This is the same sentiment killing Nigeria today. When a country that produces oil cannot have a refinary is a show of shame.

When a state pays 2 billion NGN to a former governor's account is a huge shame
The bold part shows you have no idea of business. Debit is not bad, what is bad is unsustainable debt.
When you want to question the debt profile of an entity, the first question you should ask is if the debt is sustainable.

"Of course, avoiding debt at any cost is not smart either if it means depleting your cash reserves for emergencies. The challenge is learning how to judge which debt makes sense and which does not and then wisely managing the money you do borrow."

Politics › Re: Tinubu Travels Abroad For Medical Treatment by AZeD1(m): 3:28pm On Aug 25, 2014
HNosegbe: If you say that the opposition shouldn't be trusted at the centre for "failing to fix healthcare", I can retort by asking why the ruling party (either at the centre or in states under their control) has also failed to fix healthcare and why it should be allowed to remain in power.

We can (quite rightly) criticize an opposition leader and former governor for not fixing the healthcare system of his state, but an even bigger criticism can go to the PDP-led federal government for the same crime. Was Patience Jonathan not also flown to Germany for treatment a while back?

Let's not make it about politics like Sincere9gerian is doing. Rather let's ROUNDLY criticize governments AT ALL LEVELS for failing to fix our healthcare. This APC-PDP debate will only divide us further and prevent us from speaking with a common voice.
It baffles me how PDP supporters can actually say APC governors failed to fix ...........(insert any terrible sector here) when the PDP has done worse.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Travels Abroad For Medical Treatment by AZeD1(m): 3:20pm On Aug 25, 2014
Sincere9gerian: Tinubu was governor of Lagos state for 8 years after which his anointed successor and incumbent governor took over.

Tinubu is the leader of the APC, the major opposition party in Nigeria, which is making mouth watery promises, including healthcare reforms, if elected in 2015.

One would have expected Tinubu and his gang to atleast show the PDP how it is done by transforming the Lagos healthcare system or was 14 years not enough for Tinubu's party to do the needful in Lagos state?

Since Tinubu and his gang now travel abroad for medical care, what is the fate of the over 20 million Lagosians?

What is obvious is that Tinubu and his party do not trust the Lagos healthcare system they claim to have transformed in 14 years.
Tinubu is a private citizen and he can go anywhere he wants for medical treatment. The question you should be asking is where he went for medical treatment when he WAS governor.

If PEJ went to Germany for treatment, what is the fate of over 170 million Nigerians?

PS: Yar'Adua a pdp president and two time governor died in a foreign hospital, Stella Obasanjo, wife of a two time pdp president died in a foreign hospital, Your state governor(pdp) Chime spent almost the whole of last year in a foreign hospital.

You can hate APC all you want, its your choice but when it comes to health care failure in Nigeria, PDP makes APC look like amateurs.

OP Out of curiosity, why didn't you create a thread when your state governor was in the hospital at your expense?
Politics › Re: Fashola On Trial by AZeD1(m): 12:24pm On Aug 25, 2014
OlusolaWarrior: Lagos State is the most indebted state in the country. Even though the state generates N17 billion a month, which amounts to N204 billion annually, besides the allocation it gets from the FG, the state has a debt profile of about N450 billion. What exactly is the governor doing with the state's funds? How did it get this bad? It is important we ask these questions in order to prevent the next governor from inheriting problems that are beyond normal.
Debt is not a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing when the debt to GDP ratio is high.
N167 billion of the debt came from bond issuance and i don't know if the interest yield on the bond is included in the total debt.

PS: before this turns into a pdp vs apc thread, i suggest all those who know nothing about finance to avoid commenting on this thread.

There's obviously fraud in this fuel subsidy saga but OP your analysis can be countered by a smart Jonathanian (PS i know smart and Jonathanian should not be used in the same sentence).

Let me help Sincere Nigerian do his job.
Reason why your analysis is flawed:
Before you can compare the figures from, OBJ to GEJ, you have to take into account several factors which include
1) Crude oil prices
2) Value of Naira to the Dollar
3) Cost of refinery
4) Cost of transportation and other associated cost.

You also have to take into account the increase in the number of Nigerians who own cars and generators(This should reduce if the power situation is better than it was pre GEJ).

Disclaimer: The whole subsidy issue is a scam and i am fully aware of that
