kunlewoye: YAy! Congrats, bruva!! Waiting for my turn o... will be applying next month. How did you go about the WAEC thingy? I'm presently in ABJ and still intend to obtain a letter from WAEC before my 28-day period elapses plus the affidavit I already have, although I'm contemplating not even going for the WAEC letter since i already told my school to include it in the CAS that I submitted an affidavit to point to the fact that my YOB is 1986 and not 1985 as it is on the cert. I guess that will have to do. Could you go over your process from CAS and exactly what you tendered? Where are you having your program? Kindest regards...
Thanks. s per the waec thing, i submitted a notorized affidavit stating the errors on my waec certificate and the correction. A photocopy of my waec certificate was also notarized. I had done the notarization since 2010. Wishing you all the best. Hope to welcome you personally to the uk.
Cavenchy: Wow congrats, where did you apply and how long did it take before u got the visa?
I applied in Lagos(ikeja) 30th of may and the visa was issued on the 14th of june though vfs contacted me on the 21th. That makes it 9 working days.

Major parts of the app

1)The Current budget review
This place shows the whole budget at a glance(withs charts etc). An explanation of each part of the app would be given so that lay people can understand.(one of the goals of the app is to make Nigerians understand the budget). This area will be available to the general public.

2)The monthly/quarterly review
This place shows government spending as against the budget. Should ideally contain charts explanations e.t.c

3)The spending review
This is where we show government spending as gotten fron the bpe website. check posts above to see the links for your self. This is also a public area.

4)Admin area
This is for the site admins. Not for the public.

5)**Scandal/theft area
This shows various lootings that will get to public domain e'g the pensions fund scam. Will NOT contain issues relating to bribery ala Farouk Lawan saga.

** Still undecided about number 5.

manheem: i used to believe this forum was a representation of the lifestyle/character/attitude of people in the real world out there, but now i accept this is just an avenue to express our hypocritical nature of ourselves, coming out to say somethings, claiming to stand for some principles while in life we do the opposite without blinking an eye,in this marriage issue loads has been said, if you are poor and your inlaw is funding most of your marriage na crime, if your spouse (female) funds it na crime, if na your mama na crime, the beauty of this world is in different diversities and the acceptance that what works for you does not work for me, and while we are all chasing success, the timeline of each individual is different.

i have seen people cursing guys taking roles in inlaws company on this forum, i have seen people cursing guys taking financial assistance from their inlaws to set up business on this forum, even those offered accomodation are abused as well, and i ask na everybody we dey this forum really built their success from scratch without assistance from woman, familieshuh? i 'm not ashamed to say it my mum gave me my first cash to start my business, i misused it in a bad business and after sometime that she watched me and saw things were different she gave me another one and today the business is growing gradually now, and through all this i had a girlfriend and did my introduction, and even gave my girlfriend a quarter to improve her own business. i was offered accomodation as well but as i live abroad i turned it down then.

now tell me i know loads of pple here in UK who have their accomodation sent to them by parents monthly even after studying, i know those who their parents gave houses to their son in laws after marriage, i know inlaws that were helped with jobs, infact i belong to a family where a firm owned by my uncle. a big advertising firm in lagos had about 3-4 inlaws working in there at some point, and right now cousins, and other family members still work or make their living through contracts and it is still one of the biggest firm in advertising in nigeria. i believe a 30yr old getting married and the wife have been talking and have plans towards their lifes and would not bring in his mum into my marriage and i believe the lady involved should have worked this out and believe that the funds coming from mum would make her husband stand at some point on his own, i appreciated all my mum did for me, i'm on my own now i also appreciated the fact that my girl didnt think like most on this thread hence would have worked away while i was figuring myself out. at the end of the day all this chicks here no go mind who put the money down when they see the guy growing a multi million business from what mama gave him and no go remember his many mistakes that the mum supported and provided more funds while trying to grow, but go still date am, na wa for naija and hypocrisy.
Best post so far.

@slimyem do you think Adenuga's son would be a bad/lazy husband?

Wislet: errrm.. i think a better, more effectiv solution would be: any time u see that girl u wanna cheat with or any time u're with her. Ask yourself: if this were my girlfriend on this bed with another man, how would I feel?
U will get up immediately and forget any lust u have toward her.
You have no idea of how Dickson reasons.

Kobojunkie: Again, nothing ILLEGAL in asking a person for information on how to LEGALLY access data that belongs to Nigeria, and Nigerians.

If you are not aware of the FOI law, I suggest you please take a look at it to understand why what you are suggesting is OLD NIGERIA MENTALITY, and honestly should remain there.

Foreigners have been able to tap directly into information on Nigeria with no problems but the minute a fellow Nigerian asks for the same information, you immediately suggest it is impossible? Come on!!! The law allows this.

Stop making it seems there are no such laws, and yes, laws are only as effective as the people who take advantage of them. If, for instance, there was a law that entitled Nigerians to $100 pocket money each month, but millions do not take advantage of the law. The law will not be to blame if these millions starve to death at the end of the day.
Thanks kobo for all your replies and posts.

@All, the information is needed for a project. We(kobo & i) are not working for any politician we just need the data for a project.

tiniyata: I work with the civil service n I have access to such but can't give it to u...u might be a mole

Hi everyone, please does anyone know how a person say me can get access to the spending of the FG?
when i say access, i mean a way to know approved projects, schedules of projects to be executed, protocols for release of funds e.t.c.
contacts of relevant offices are highly appreciated.

I just need electronic copies.

This information is needed for a project which can be found at https://www.nairaland.com/930302/2012-summer-code-time-code/

okeyxyz: @A-zed, @kobojubkie
why don't you create a new thread asking how to get access to govt budget documents, contacts of relevant offices, electronic copies, schedules of projects to be executed, protocols for release of funds, etc, then push it to the front page. This is more of a business-requirement gathering aspect of the project, i'm sure there other nairalanders who know these things better that you programmers. don't forget to state the reasons you want to gather these info's, maybe people would be impressed & put in more effort to assist.
Thanks Okeyxyz

Kobojunkie: Cool, well, lets break down a couple of the user stories so we can get a better picture of what needs to be developed first and what may come later. Since this is going to be data-dependent, it would also be a good idea to research what is available and what we can request from the authorities on this.

We can easily create class diagrams with yuml, and wire them all up so it makes sense to others as well.
The whole budget is available with its breakdown on the website of the budget office.

Kobojunkie: Possible User Stories
=====================
1) User should be able to view a breakdown of the National Budget on a yearly basis
2) Users should be able to view breakdown of budget at the state level on a yearly basis
3) Budget items need to be updated periodically to reflect changes(additions/modifications as the year moves on
4) User should be able to view information on projects, costs and effects on overall budget
5) User should be able to track government spending
6) Users should be able to see the summary of government spending on a particular agency/ministry over a certain period(in years e.g 2011-2014)
7) Users should be able to spot duplication of projects in the budget
8.) Users at any given time should be able to know the current price of oil.
This basically the major feature of the app
Programming › Re: [Project] 2012 Summer Of Code - WORK HAS COMMENCED by AZeD1(m): 6:20pm On Jun 04, 2012
The project is supposed to be in two stages(Federal and states.)The idea is to break down the budget to its simplest form so that the average Nigerian can take a look at it and understand it. The budget should also be updated periodically to show expenditure when approved(approved in this context means the day the "project" to be executed is announced.)
Requirement for phase one can be gotten from http://www.budgetoffice.gov.ng/2012_appropriation.html
The major challenge is monitoring the budget which is near impossible but there is a cabinet meeting weekly and journalist are usually briefed about the meeting and various projects approved are usually released along with source of funding
simply put it like this

Step 1:- Budget explained for all to see and understand.
Step 2:- When a project is announced, we subtract project cost from the ministry executing the project's budget.

The app would really be useful down the years when we can see that xy project occured in 2012 budget why is it in 2014 budget.

Ok . . . if you write the budget app, and find discrepancies in the budget usage/implementation, what next? You're gonna sue? Sue who? Smh!
The work of the app is to find discrepancies.
What next you may ask, well after that its left for the people to make their choice during the election. Information changes a lot of things.
