Politics › Re: OPINION: Any Suggestions How To Ensure Petrol Sells For 86.50 ?? by AZeD1(m): 9:41am On Jan 11, 2016 |
In my opinion, there's really only one way around this. Unbundling NNPC and making its retail arm a competitor. So for places like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other major cities, we have an NNPC station selling to the public at the government approved price.
In a place like Nigeria, the only way to check cooperate greediness is to have a government owned(not necessarily government run) company to compete with this private companies.
This is actually a long term thing though. |

Raayah has said it all but since you say you really love education, i'd say you should forget about UNN and enrol at the Open university of Nigeria. Also, there are lots of schools that put their materials online e.g MIT and Stanford, there are also lots of MOOC's were you can get all the knowledge you want. at you own time and for free.
This is 2016, education has gone beyond the classroom. |

jnhmaxxwell: No they were not sold but it's only ethical to give someone a gift that is bought new which makes super sense. Not giving a gift at all is better than Giving someone a used gift or second hand. Well, it also depends on the type of friend. In this case of U.S giving Nigeria a used vehicle which is very ok for anyone to report it the way it sees it. may be using used vehicle would have been the perfect word for it which also has a little proportion of dumping such vehicles.
This is how we continue to ridicule ourselves. Now answer me, can U.S give this type of vehicles to U.K for example ? Is that that they have considered Nigeria to be a permanent 3rd world country that no good can ever come out of it ? And they continue to treat us as such ? Even-ordinary Saudi Arabia there, U.S cannot gift used vehicles and say it's donation. Donation to military less country right ?
Though Journalism is without adding emotional feelings but not withstanding, those vehicles are better kept in U.S where they have loads of it. They could have even re-used it or harmer it to new one before giving it out.
Nigeria is not a Country you can gift these types of vehicles. So me giving a laptop to to someone who doesn't have is not ethical? You should go back to school, no offence. |

bankylan: Young man, it is obvious you only watch nta and visit nairaland. I listened to Udo Udoma on Channels with my friend Seun Okinbaloye...Udoma expressed pessimism about the budget and he even said that they are likely to review it as they rely on some experts's decision to benchmark the oil price at 38.....From what I gathered after the interview, it was obvious a thorough job was not done, and the minister has no exclusive say in the whole budget. Even Saudi Arabia with her huge reserves cut budget by 14%. We are talking about diversification as if it is a short term thing, and we can't even budget enough for agriculture compared to what information and culture ministry got. We are talking about borrowing when there is no productivity and capacity utilization.. The number 1 problem of Nigeria and Africa is inadequate knowledge, and that's Y we don't ask questions..we just believe whatever we are told. This is 2016 who watches NTA? If Udoma actually expressed pessimism about a budget he is supposedly in charge of, then he is not as smart as the author thinks which brings me back to my point, the author judgement can't be trusted. As for the bold part, in the short and even long term, the Information and Culture ministry has a higher revenue generating potential than the Agricultural ministry. |

The author says If there is anybody I can vouch for in Buhari’s Cabinet, it is Senator Udoma Udo Udoma. I have known him, and his best friend Keem Bello Osagie, for 30 years. All three of us are graduates of Oxford University, England, although I was there before him and Keem. Udoma is as sharp as a razor; he is one of the most intelligent people I know. Better still, he is a man of unimpeachable integrity. Udoma cannot be bought. He has a very successful law practice; the last thing he would do is fiddle with public funds. he then goes on to say Udoma is a man well-prepared for public office. However, in the short-term, he will have to defend as, a team-player minister, a budget unlikely to be his brainchild. Udoma could not have known he would be the Minister of Budget and Planning. But now he has to defend a budget he could not have planned. Frankly, there are a number of things in this budget that are indefensible. The irony is so glaring i find it hard to believe the author is oxford trained. A man of integrity would not put his name on a document he cannot defend so if Mr Udoma is a man of integrity and as intelligent as the author claims then Mr Udoma would have had a lot to say as far as this budget is concerned and the budget is most likely his brain child. The article just shows the author hates the president and is finding every possible means to knock him but given that his friend (whom he can vouch for) is in charge, he first tries to exonerate his friend(that is not held against his will) before bashing the president and his party. |

TonyeBarcanista: I also occupied Ojota in 2012. The situation is quite different.
In 2011 Nigeria's subsidy shoot from some hundreds of billions to TWO trillion. How come? The then government kept saying that some cabals and stuff, but it wasn't so before they came on board. Many(including myself) maintained that the masses must not suffer for the government's insincerity and cluelessness. As at then, fuel was sold at N65 per litre, while subsidy was at N80 per litre. That means the government expected us to be buying fuel at N145 per litre(or more). That is over 100% increase in hardship and poverty catalyst. We had trillions in our reserve, there was no paliative and the politicians were in one corruption scandal or the other and walking free. So it was unacceptable and we resisted it!
The government relaxed on partial subsidy and brought SURE-P but what did that bring to us? Nothing. The government promised refineries but till date nothing is on ground. So the 2012 opposition was/is on point. Can you please return the account to the real owner? |

Politics › Re: Why We Raised Alarm Over Buhari’s N6.08 Trillion Budget – PDP by AZeD1(m): 4:38pm On Dec 29, 2015 |
I believe Metuh didn't read/listen to the speech. The N1.8 trillion is for capital projects. To diversify from an Oil economy, we need to build infrastructure(something Metuh and his gang in PDP failed to do after debt cancellation and record oil prices), to build infrastructure, we need money which we don't have now,so the only option is to borrow.
1) There's no way you can diversify the Nigerian economy without spending money on building infrastructure. 2) The country has to spend and spend big to stimulate the economy. 3) To spend it's either we borrow money or follow what the CBN governor once proposed: Sell our stake in some of our JV's or my personal favourite swap oil for infrastructure. |

Ghandi12: No doubt, there are valuable points in questions being raised by those who have reservations for the approach the current government is using in tackling the economy. Nonetheless the economic buoyancy of a state is not necessarily tied to its debt portfolio. Similarly people success in corporate assignment may not be accurately predicted using their core discipline. Akpabio and Fashola are lawyers, by Nigeria standard they remain the most successful Govs in recent time. You have given us debt accrued by Ogun State under the economic direction of Mrs. Adeosun. You know state debt is just one of many economic indices required to analyze economic buoyancy. America remains the world highest borrower yet the world most-powerful nation.
# Could you also post what was the IGR of the state before and after Mrs. Adeosun service? # Could you also compare this to other states? # What was her impact on direct investment into the state during her service? # What was the overall infrastructural changes in Ogun state under Mrs. Adeosun's direction? # The state's GDP under Adeosun? Compared to other states? Bros please take one bottle on my head. Borrowing is not a crime, it's what you borrow for that determines if it's a crime. I can't answer for the OP but I know according to the manufacturers association of Nigeria, Ogun state received more than 50% of FDI in manufacturing and using a layman analysis, we can deduce that 1) The internal generated revenue in Ogun state will increase 2) The GDP of Ogun state will also increase. |
