texazzpete: Where is the 'round tripping' going to come from?
To get the dollar for school fees for my friend, his parents have to tender documents from the school, signed and stamped confirming the EXACT amounts for the school fees and living expenses. Only then are they allowed to fill the forms and obtain the forex...and there are mechanisms in place to prevent this from being abused. How do you think round tripping occurs? I want to send money to my sister, i fill all her details, i get the forex, call my uncle or my friends, tell them to send x amount of money to my sister and i'll pay the equivalent to their Nigerian account, do the same thing for my brother and i make serious profit. |

texazzpete: this is utter rubbish.
While it can be seen as a luxury to send your kids overseas to school, we must never forget that it is a KEY mechanism for knowledge transfer, and remains one of the best ways to 1) TRansfer knowledge and modern trends in medicine, science and technology and other fields
2) Ensure the next generation of lecturers and academics have the most exposure to the latest developments
I much rather the Govt continues aiding students to get access to forex at official rates than keep lavishing our precious forex on dinosaurs like Dangote that pay barely any tax. How do you stop rounding tripping of the dollar? |

It better not be that CBN can subsidise forex for him and a privileged few but not for other ordinary Nigerians who make honest money and want to give their kids better alternatives than we have here. He is President, the country pays his kids school fees, not him. |

How can a president in a democracy on a global media like Aljazeera refuse to see evidence of a crime being commited by his armed forces? A concerned president would be demanding to see it. He then concluded by saying that his government will not tolerate Biafra or anyone who subscribes to it. You expect a president, to look at YouTube for evidence? Really? |
Politics › Re: National Assembly To Buhari: Drop N500b Intervention Fund From Budget 2016 by AZeD1(m): 1:39pm On Mar 05, 2016 |
grandstar: It will help in several ways
1. The present scarcity of dollars is artificial. It is because the price is too low and that is why CBN can not meet demand.
If devalued, it will reduce demand and there will be enough dollars in the market. A devaluation to 240-250 range will be enough. This will lead to a merger of the official rate and the black market rate.
2. It will bring a reduction in the black market rate to around 240-250 range.
3. Many companies now wait months to get dollars. Once it is devalued, there will be enough dollars and companies can receive their allocation within days.
4. It will heavily reduce round tripping- where people buy at the official rate iof 197.50 and sell at the black market rate of 320
5. It will encourage private individuals to bring in foreign exchange and those that have will be willing to sell.
6. The daily spend on the ATM's will increase to what it was before.
7.It will bring down rising inflation. Many products are already priced at the black market rate.
And many others. The most important is that it will end dollar shortages Your post shows you have no idea of the problem. 1) Nigeria earns most of her foreign exchange(Dollars) from selling crude. 2) The price of Oil is down, and there's also a glut in the market. 3) Devaluing the Naira doesn't increase the price of oil so the amount of Dollars the CBN has would NOT increase. 4) The theory of devaluing only makes sense if you are a manufacturing country because when you devalue, manufacturers can sell more 5) Nigeria doesn't manufacture anything so devaluing doesn't help. |

OlujobaSamuel: the options should be increased. see my previous post. also note that the schools not filled to capacity is due mostly to fee. If I choose UI, and I checked my score but not good enough, you should know that there is 85% probability that those that beat the cut off for a Lautech is more than the available capacity. Schools that mostly accept students with lower score are private institutions, so how many students can afford such? My previous comment speaks more on it. You don't understand the problem. Total spaces available in Nigerian universities == 500k Total students appyling for admission == 1.5M No matter which method you take (Jamb or apply to the school directly) some students who are qualified will not be admitted. Scrapping Jamb doesn't solve anything, rather it would increase the problems faced because schools can sell admission to the highest bidder. |

Education › Re: JAMB Releases 200,000 Results As Minister Expresses Concern by AZeD1(m): 4:51pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
OlujobaSamuel: the system can also address that. the result will be arranged according to score. the first 50highest score simply get offer letter for provisional admission. Remember that all admission letter are provisional till you graduate so it can be revoked at any point in time if it's discovered that you can't cope academically or morally. It means 70 people don't get admission and would have to apply the following year, same scenario with JAMB except that with JAMB you can change your school of choice after seeing your result but there's no way university B would admit you because you passed university A's entrance exam. |
Education › Re: JAMB Releases 200,000 Results As Minister Expresses Concern by AZeD1(m): 4:34pm On Mar 02, 2016 |
ArodewilliamsT: For Christ's sakes, Jamb should be scrapped. It's a total waste of time and parent's funds. Apply to universities online and write their exams, if anyone accepts you, fine.
A friend spent 5 years seeking admission, in the 6th year he got admission into 3 different universities in the United states. I adviced him to sell everything he could and get out as fast as he can. Today he earns $92,500 p.a in the states just 2 years after graduating in the IT industry. God punish nigeria. He probably did S.A.T which you can call the American version of Jamb. The difference is in the US, there are thousands of university so not matter your score, you'd get a university willing to take you. |

firstking01: then they should make it an instanta admission...so far you 've gotten the cutoff mark, the system will automatically signy that you 've been given a provisional admission ...my friend, just think of this strategy and give me feedback?? University A has space for 50 law students, 300 people apply for admission and out of the 300, 120 get >= the cut off mark. If the system gives admission automatically, it means the first 50 get the space or you over populate the class. Pick your poison. |

firstking01: i dnt believe so, let it be an open test in the school...the required score for the department you are applying for should be pasted there so everybody will see it should incase your cutoff mark was upto the score and they deny you admission, you can take it up from there...my brother, this strategy will work very well and FG knows it, they are only ignoring it cosof what they achieve from jamb....some few years ago they almost adopted this method, i dnt knw what happened 1) Getting the cutoff mark does not guarantee you will be admitted. 2) Even if the test is done in the open, the highest bidders would have seen the questions and answers long before the date of admission. 3) You say jamb is all about the money, do you think the universities are any different? |

A lot of people lambast banks for nothing.
