I've read some of Boyo's theories but I'm not really sold because Nigerians are a peculiar people, we have a way of making theories that worked else were failed.

Like SirShymexx has said, we have to rough it out.

if the senate should criminalize estimated billing, does that translate in the provision of pre-paid meters? is it the senate that will provide meters for Nigerians? the present discos privatization should be reversed and made open again with the stakes high for more serious minded fellows to come in instead of the present ones that are not serious at all. This is what am waiting for PMB to do quickly to get us out of this poo.
Criminalising estimated billing doesn't provide meters but it stops the discos from billing customers/ disconnecting them if they don't have a meter. This means if the discos want their money, they need to provide meters.

It makes no sense reversing the privatisation exercise. The country as a whole should be moving forward.
Politics › Re: Tariff Reversal: Nationwide Blackout Looms, Power Firms Warn by AZeD1(m): 11:17am On Feb 18, 2016
Goke7:
Am not actually against the increase bruv but truth be told, you can't ask people to pay for a service not rendered, that has been the issue and why did they stop giving out pre-paid meters for a very long time, I use a pre-paid meter and so the tariff increase does not bother me at all as I don't even have light in my area but my meter will not read one kobo, the removal of service charge sef is a a bonus to me as I may not need to recharge for a whole year sef but same cannot be said for those on the estimating billing system as they must cough out money whether there is light or not.

The truth is most of the gsm companies are owned by foreigners apart from glo who mean business, so they are working but the discos were shared and bought by the same Nigerian greedy politicians who don't mean well for Nigerians but just want to be collecting and spending our money as usual. This is why the present FG must reverse the privatization scam and open it up to even foreigners who will be ready to do business and build infrastructure.

Truth be told Nigerians can be bad managers otherwise how do you explain how visaphone being bought over by mtn and how come dstv continues to enjoy monoploy. open up the power sector to both local and international investors and see whether we will not have light 24hrs a day. We are our own problems.
The power sector (generation) is open to anybody.
As for meters, my point is the senate should criminalize estimated billing. That way, the power companies can't say the government or anyone is limiting investment.

The privatization thing was a scam, what infrastructure has the discos provided for us to take them serious? when the gsm companies came, they started building infrastructure immediately cos they meant business.
Stop comparing power and telcoms, that's like comparing apples to chickens.

Power is a capital intensive business and the truth of the matter is if the country wants to make progress, we need the increase in tariff. What the senate should have done/ do is make it a criminal offence to give consumers estimated billing.
That way, you either provide the meters of give out free electricity.

You cannot solve the problem of round tripping when you have created the best market opportunity for round tripping to thrive by pegging the rate.

It's simple, if a house is on fire and the source is electrical, the first thing you do is to cut the supply.

The source of the hoarding is speculation which is a result of the guaranteed downward trend of the Naira. The source of the round tripping is the variance between the parallel market rates and the CBN rates
On a scale of 1 -10 how would devaluation reduce round tripping?

I'm pretty sure i said i'm not against his message but he should stop talking(tweeting) and start asking. There's no point shouting buy Nigeria on twitter when you can draft a bill that forces government agencies to buy Nigerian.

Laws are not made or passed on twitter but in the senate...
Politics › Re: Ben Murray-Bruce Mocks Nigerian Youths by AZeD1(m): 11:23am On Feb 15, 2016
Okijajuju1:
Nice retort..

1. Yes he may have been elected, but for someone who is attacking the Presidency for picking aged cabinet members, he could have lived by his own standards by supporting a young member of his constituency to go for the position he currently occupies. But he didn't.

2. Buying one Innoson bus for his office when the rest of their fleet is all foreign is sheer hypocrisy. Innoson has been around doing this car thing for quite a few years now. Also Ben Murray Bruce's personal Cars are not Innoson. If that isn't hypocritical, I wonder what is.

3. Every time his cinema shows a foreign movie, Hollywood makes money. Every ticket he sells, puts money in the hands of foreign film makers. He has to pay for the license and rights to show those movies, that's forex going to foreign a nation. So he should live up to his own mantra and stop showing foreign movies and keep his cinemas 100% local content and also use his TV station to promote local football. As we speak, DSTV which is a South African media outfit contributes more to our local league than Ben Murray Bruce's Silverbird Tv. So isn't this hypocritical as well?

4. Kudos to his group for the pageantry. That's money in his hands which I have absolutely nothing against. But pageantry happens once in a while. Gov Duke put things in place to make Cross Rivers State a tourist destination that in turn increased the states tourism and local revenue. What has Bruce put in place in his Bayelsa that does that? Pagentry is an event, tourism is a destination thing. There is a difference. It's like saying because we host the World Cup, Nigeria is now a tourism destination. grin

To indict him even further, when he was the DG of NTA, what did he achieve to elevate NTA to a proper 21st century digital Satellite television station?

I maintain that Bruce is a hypocrite that does not live up to the standards he is setting for others.

He should focus on his constituents and start his campaign from there. If he works there, we will see it and he wouldn't need Twitter to blow his own horn. And donating his wardrobe allowance to Widows is a kind gesture, nothing developmental or sustainable about that so forgive me for not being impressed by such bullshit. Bayelsa as we speak faces issues of pollution, lack of clean water, poor access to good medical facilities, education, e.t.c.

For someone who supports the "common sense" senator, you seem not to see the hypocrisy in this. It's okay though, even Bruce does not seem to see it either.
I need to visit your shrine and drop some bottles of Orijin for Okija. I have no problem with his message but i have a problem with the messenger. What has stopped Ben from pushing through a bill that forces government agencies to buy made in Nigeria?

The senate and the presidency are about to spend billions purchasing cars, imagine what a buy naija bill would have done to the economy.

Common sense without the relevant laws backing them is noise making.

Winners do while losers tweet.

Let me tell you how it makes the pound strong. You like their matches, you either watch it at a viewing center or have it at your house. You pay dstv for subscription or 100naira at the viewing centre. The viewing centre pays their subscription or dstv you pay subscription to pays for the righta to air the football match to sky sports in the uk. Those ones use the money to pay their workers who are not living in nigeria... so my friend thats how you are helping the epl and pound grow
Erm, viewing centres are businesses run by Nigerians so we can confidently say the EPL has generated jobs in Nigeria.

What was your point again?

I'm not a twitter guy, yet I get his messages. I believe if he was moving in the opposite direction in the Senate, he'ld have been called out. I'm also aware that others with him are aware of his opinions, but whom exactly out of the entire senate has come out to lend credence to this wonderful opinion? That's to tell you how bad things really are. He's the only one saying the words Nigerians need to hear to inspire them. Hushing him down will benefit no one. Rather, we should imbibe the message.
I'm not against his message, but i'd rather see a tweet that says i just sponsored a bill to force all governments institution to buy made in Nigeria that his endless common sense radio jingles and tweets. If he can't get a bill that would improve the country past his colleagues in the senate then of what use is he there?

DesChyko:
Guess that is the difference? He advertises and uses it. It's a double-take for Innoson, having a high-profile citizen advertise his product. That is the primary message. Any other message gotten is an assumption by the recipient..
He is a senator, sponsoring and pushing a bill mandating all government agencies to buy made in Nigeria will have a far reaching effect than any tweet. He is paid to make things happen in the senate.

Talker talk(tweet), great people take action...

PS: The senate is about to spend a ridiculous amount of money on buying cars, can you imagine the effect it would have on the economy if Ben had spent his time convincing he mates in the senate to buy Innoson rather than twitting?

What has Ben Bruce done about it?
The minimum age to be a minister in Nigeria is 30 years old, the minimum for senate is 35 so as Nigeria is presently constituted, you cannot be 22 and be a minister.

What has Bruce done to change it?
Last i checked, the constitution cannot be changed on twitter.

urnaijadotcom:
Instead of feeding children with biscuits the FG should invest in agriculture by encouraging farmers to grow fruits and vegetable to feed these children with. This will not only be a source of income for these local farmers but will also provide the children with better nutrition.
Your write up might* have been making sense up until this last paragraph. If this is not an investment in agriculture, then I don't know what is.
I don't believe in welfarism but this plan if properly** implemented would kill two birds with one stone.

Bird 1: Educating rural kids. If the plan is properly executed, it should increase enrolments in the rural areas thereby giving this kids a chance to learn how to read and write. Do not underestimate what the ability to read and write would help people in rural areas achieve.

Bird 2: Employment. I don't know what Nasco's revenue is like today but I am willing to bet that a 500 million increase in revenue will help the company expand and you know what that means in terms of employment. Also by giving the money to Nasco, you've solved a big problem in agriculture, the value chain. Nasco has the money to expand which means they'll need more raw materials for production and they'll turn to the farmers but if you give the money to the farmers they'll produce crops but if they don't have buyers then the crops would waste like it does currently.

PS: for those peddling the Ben Murray Bruce lie of using the money to improve teachers welfare, my question to you is will increasing the salaries of governors and political appointees stop them from stealing?

the difference is 113 units which can last me for more than a week....

The light is still same.. tariff will be worse do those with post paid.. Phcn will double the tariff sent to each person
Best to improve power first before hike....so it means we are paying the Phcn to enable them have money for their operations.. this is corruption ..
sure someone is getting some kick back from these hike
During Fash era, Lagos budget is always below 500bn despite oil boom, now with less oil Moni, Ambode first budget is over 150bn higher....
my point. This is how Fasola operates ....plenty Moni for a few things with lots of garnish
If you take Lagos as an example, using one million customers, the distribution company was guaranteed 750 million every month whether they provided light or not. Now that is gone, to make that sort of money, they'd have to provide some customers light.

Also part of the deal was you can only charge the new tariffs to people with meter(I can not speak on how that would be enforced).
Plus remember that electricity is now in the hands of private investors not the government, what do you think the price would be if the government takes it hands off completely?(How would you feel if the government told you how much to charge for your business or service)?
