What is the cause of this tendency to scam among Nigerians.

If I had not known great Nigerian people, in the like of sarassin or Mizmycoli, or happypagan I would have run away from anything related to Nigeria for life.

90% of all Nigerians I later got in touch with, tried to scam me one way or the other. A few successfully did. Others failed. Most were totally dishonest.

What is the cause of this. I went from Being the greatest supporter of the Nigerian culture, to a disillusioned and disenchanted observer of the country.

Poverty can't be the only reason, as most subsaharian countries are even doing worse than Nigeria.

Thank god for the few men of integrity left in that otherwise great country. I like the Nigerian culture a lot, but I fear some of the people equally much.

hmmmm where do i start from? right before my eyes Nigerians were not like this - Nigeria was home to Ghana,SAs, indians , Arabs etc. Nigerians were not interested in' going abroad' ; Pentecostal churches were not deliberately mischievously calling ' mystical organizations ' secret cults- a deliberate poisoning of folks' minds to win them to untruths; no hate speeches even after the civil war , life was simple until ....it is a long complex story . A careful study of the elite's political approach to serious national issues, vis a vis the pre and post civil war realities; the effect of the military rule on democracy especially the IBB years where the seed of scam was watered and nurtured to a tree- the epitome of years of misrule culminating in the June 12 criminal annulment and the subsequent death of MKO under the nose of CIA of Clinton's administration; commercialisation of religious centres to the extent of stifling them of their esoteric essence, etc a dangerous socio-cultural and religious or rather spiritual disaster mix of poverty was born. And unless a mystic at heart leads Nigeria ,then the end to the journey may not be near. Ask me what country gets billions of dollars from oil proceeds but make sure her citizens go to bed hungry with no electricity nor any social amenities while keeping the oil proceeds in foreign economies and toilets? ehn!!!

bros in all honesty, what she did we all condemned but can you tell me what could have made her go out in the first place: whether it is a teenager or an adult she went for? Why she went after a teenager? Was her husband in the know, and why? Has she a history of going after teenagers? If not why now?


i said who knows or maybe the husband was the cause because I am not certain what could have caused the ' misbehavior'.

Can answer any of the questions with certainty? if not then we can speculate or only talk in probability as far as the cause is concerned.

Hypnotism was developed way later from the works of mesmer.

I fail to get your point. You sound like I am undermining Mesmer's achievements.

The only thing I am saying, is that Hypnotism DID NOT EXIST when Mesmer was active, and certainly Mesmerism WAS NOT likened to Hypnotism, since it was not even in existence.

Hypnotism was developed AFTER Mesmer, from studying his work. This is not perception, it is recorded fact in history. It does not devalue Mesmer in anyway.

I know you appreciate Fr Mesmer for it was clearly shown in your earlier post but what I am saying is that the general opinion about Mesmer's contribution is not properly represented or misrepresented as the public felt ' hypnotism' was how to describe the new phenomenon ' but unknown to them, it was not new to rosicrucians who had been studying the nerve cell electricity long before Mesmer. As a matter of fact Mesmer studied Michael Faraday's extensive work on electricity. His fantastic works unknown to the public are well documented. I think a better glimpse of this energy is captured in Maria Corelli's ' a tale of two worlds'.

No. His teaching was not mistaken for hypnotism, the discipline did not even exist at that time. After his death, people studied his techniques from a pure scientific perspective and that study led to what we now refer to as Hypnotism.

Mesmerism gave birth to hypnotism but was never mistaken for it.

That has been the public perception of Franz Mesmer's work from his days. Yes he did try to demonstrate his findings to the public in his days ,and his " laying of hands" on folks to demonstrate the calming effect of the nerve energy or electricity in the hands made some persons even slept off that the then public became afraid and went superstitious that ' if a small touch from mesmer could make them sleep instantly,then an increased dose of the energy could death'!

Mesmer was very interested in Faraday's ( a great Rosicrucian of note) work on electricity particularly the vibration in the human nerves . Like I told you earlier, most of us live in a semi zombified state. Our conscious brain filters a lot and prevents much to get to us. It is like a glass of water in the ocean. Hypnosis helps to access the whole ocean to an extent. There are higher techniques out there though, hypnosis is as best as medical science can go at the moment.
